Diner Reviews
  • "All in all a good experience, but it used to be better. Having visited the Angel Inn for some years now I still love the place and the staff are great! However the food seems to be a lot cheaper than it used to be. I would still recommend the Angel Inn to friends, but it's not what it used to be in regards to food. Go along and enjoy the booze in a warm atmosphere served by the great and friendly staff, and in fairness the food is still good!"

  • "We arrived on a very busy Saturday evening and good job we had pre booked as the place was packed. The waiter was friendly and patient. Our food was lovely, four of our group of 5 chose the burger, all had different combinations but everyone said they enjoyed it. The only thing that was not perfect was that due to us being a group of 5,one person had to sit on the end of a table that was really meant for 4 people."

  • "We visited last Tuesday, the food was excellent, our one criticism being the lack food served with the Sirloin steak; 1 Small mushroom, 1/2 of a tomato; 40g Peas and maybe 100g Chips... The steak itself was excellent as was the other meal Chicken/pesto/CousCous. The lady who served us was lovely and couldn't do enough to please, however she was trying to manage about 60 covers on her own which as a former hospitality manager myself I did not find acceptable. As we were finishing our meal the Manager popped down to lend a hand...not really acceptable as this is not a cheap pub dinner."

  • "I have not been to the Angel Inn for 10 years, as the last time I went, I was not very impressed with the food, This time the food I and my wife had was very good and enjoyed the evening very much. I will be going back to try something else off the menu."

  • "We had a lovely meal at the Angel. Our waitress was very conscientious, my wife is vegetarian but hates tomato. We ordered a meal for her based on the waitresses recommendation that it had no tomato in it. Luckily for us she double checked as it did contain tomato! She then found us an alternative dish from the lunchtime menu that was suitable!"

  • "The last time we went for Sunday lunch they had run outof roasts! On this occasion, we had to wait sometime before anyone took our odrer, and this only happened when we called a waiter over.. The food was very disappointing, very basic. The sauce was practically non existent and I couldn't taste any cheese at all. Expensive chicken and chips, where the chicken seemed over cooked and too crispy."

  • "The food was fine but nothing special, would have been happy to pay your prices if the food was better. The service was great, very friendly waiters yet did not enjoy being asked to take part in a survey after the meal at our table."

  • "A good for value restaurant / pub. A good choice of menu for all taste. The service and the politeness of the staff was fantastic. Will certainly go again and recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "We enjoyed a very good late Sunday lunch where service was excellent and the atmosphere was relaxed but not over-friendly. The food was very good and came up to expectations. Altogether a positive experience."

  • "Had a good meal, main courses good value, starters and sweets overpriced, staff friendly, found next day been charged for someone else's coffee, two extra not ordered by us. Otherwise good evening out."

  • "6 of us visited The Angel and all in all had a good experience. The service was very good and our waiter was very friendly and helpful. The food was good. Not the best I've ever eaten but good value for money."

  • "We had not eaten at the Angel for a long time and I have to say the whole experience was very nice. Food was very good."

  • "The food at the angel inn was absolutely brilliant! However, the service was very very slow, for example after we had finished our starter we had to wait approximately 25 minutes before our plates were even cleared and this was only because I got up to find our waitress to ask how long our main courses would be. We would have stayed for a dessert but because of the slow service we just didn't have the time to wait. I would definitely come here again though in the hope that the service would be quicker."

  • "I have dined at the Angel Inn before and have always enjoyed the meal and the ambience on the pub, however this time we dined on 22 December, except for a couple of Christmas trees, without lights, there was no atmosphere. There was no specials board and no Roast Turkey on the menu which my Father was looking forward to. My salad was expensive for a few lettuce leaves and a chicken breast, the menu said it was with avocado, just a couple of pieces were found. Overall poor. I will not be recommending in the future."

  • "Whenever we go, there is always something on the menu we would like which is not available. We don't ever have this experience at any other restaurant and I can't understand why it is not possible to order every item on the menu at all times. The food is good, the portions are not disgustingly large as they are in some places, but service is always very slow, and on this occasion was made slower by a large party - obviously pre-booked. If you know about large bookings, why don't you staff appropriately? We're never in a terrible hurry, but we don't like having to take an hour and a half over a simple lunch."

  • "Visited 20th December 2013 at 7.45pm. Very disappointed that the heating was not working when we arrived for our meal (notified by a note on the door). It was made worse being seated by a window which had a draft coming through. We did ask to be moved but there were no other places available. I appreciate that these things happen and there was probably little that could be done given the circumstances, but am afraid to say that this spoilt the evening. My friend eventually had to put her coat on during the meal. Not something I'd expect from my local especially at what is surely your busiest time of year!"

  • "There was a good variety of food, which was all very tasty. The service was fabulous, very friendly & helpful, we were impressed & would definitely recommend this pub."

  • "But a new menu is not anywhere as good as the previous one. We are regular guests and now disappointed with food on offer."

  • "This is the second time we've been in recent weeks. The service was very good and the food was ok also. They made a point of saying that the roast beef would be medium to rare unless otherwise specified and when it came out it was more like well done. The food is usually quite good but you get the feeling that it's a bit pricey for a pub."
    dined on 10/11/2013
  • "We went here for dinner as the family was visiting! I loved being able to book online- no fuss, no 'please hold' etc etc. The waitress was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The only gripes I have were that there were a couple of items on the menu which weren't available that evening, but it was 20:00 during half term so that might explain the situation. After dinner we went through to the bar area which again was very comfortable and calm- we didn't have to strain to hear the conversation and again the staff were all very pleasant. It's a bit out of the way to come to from Christchurch, but if I were in the area again, I'd definitely visit again!"

  • "I took the family for Sunday lunch. The food quality was good but it was let down by being a bit cold. Considering that this is a pub £10.95 is a lot for a Sunday roast."
    dined on 13/10/2013
  • "The food was really good and affordable, atmosphere very good. The only thing was that the service was a little bit slow, although our waitress was very helpful, polite, and had a lovely smile all the time."

  • "Wanted a quick and easy but nice dinner for 5. Booked using the Toptable app about an hour before arriving. They did not have our booking but there were plenty of tables. Waitress seemed annoyed that the barman had allocated our table. Service slow to start with but improved. Food good - a decent variety, good value and nice."

  • "We go quite a lot but on the last visit we were looked after by a lovely lady called Dorothy, very attentive , well mannered & very professional for that reason we would return, she was a lady with experience of life & a joy to talk with! By the way the food was ok as well!"

  • "I booked a table and was looking forward to an enjoyable evening with friends. Very disappionted in standard of food. I had a very chewy steak ! one of the puddings did not arrive and the Sundays were melted by the time we got them . An expensive evening very poor value for money . I was relly embarrassed as it was my suggestion to go to the Angel . We certainly will not be returning !!"

  • "Ths was my first visit, fixed because I wanted to book a table for 5 owing to having family stay with me on a holiday and very few places allow bookings. The booking was easy to arrange on-line with a reminder coming the day before. We arrived 1320 for a 1345 booking thinking we'd have to wait but we were welcomed at the bar and told we could have our table at once. The table awaited with my name on it. The two children were given sheets to colour in and crayons by a very friendly waitress. The food was excellent, plates hot, service good and the price very reasonable, especially for a Sunday. Tables were well-spread and the whole building felt spacious. It was tidy and everyone friendly. One of the best pubs I've ever been to."

  • "We had a lovely meal with ages ranging from 70+ to age 2. The food was great and the staff were friendly. The outdoor area is lovely and my little girl really enjoyed it."

  • "One of the main reasons we use The Angel is because it is local, we can all have a drink and walk home! Six of us went for a meal. We know that at the Angel over the years that the food can sometimes be good, sometimes just average. This time we thought there was a much better choice on the menu but the prices were much higher. I have no objection to paying more if it is good value for money but the food we had was not. The portions were small. I think if this pub was out in the country it would not be as busy, it is just very handy for the locals."
    dined on 09/08/2013
  • "We use the Angel frequently as a family, on our last visit they have gone back to having to order your food at the bar, we prefer waitress service, where we are asked what we would like to drink and given a menu. This time we had to ask for a menu, and it was not given with a smile! The atmosphere was take it or leave it. We wont be going back until we hear that it is back to the usual standard."
    dined on 04/08/2013
  • "Having visited the angel inn before and was pleased with the food and service, his time was very disappointing my wife's fish was dry and overcooked, my mini pies were rather tasteless. Poor service. I did get a discount on my bill."

  • "We came on a evening sitting for a birthday meal, the young lady who served us was very helpful and Friendly, the food was served nice and hot although the veg could have done with a little longer, overall a lovely evening."

  • "Pub nice but noisy due to lots of loud children and crying babies .Food main issue, was OK but expected better quality and quantity for the prices.I had the fish and chips didn't taste of much, but chips and peas were good. Service great waitress really attentive even asked us about our holiday we were planning, very friendly and polite, top marks for her."

  • "I have been coming to The Angel for over 30 years. Nowadays it is often my first choice for family meals and "ladies lunches" with friends. The present owners/managers seem to have got it just right with the mix of interesting but not over-fussy food, excellent friendly service and a great atmosphere, both inside and out. If it could just be moved a little further back from the road it would be just about perfect!"

  • "We had a lovely meal at the Angel Inn to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary with our children and grandchildren. The food was great the service was excellent and the children enjoyed the park. we managed to get a couple of tables outside because the weather was gorgeous. Would definitely recommend this pub for large groups, we have enjoyed many meals here over the years with small and large groups the service is always excellent. well done to the staff at the Angel they were very helpful, making sure we had plenty of cold water as it was so hot!"

  • "Eat regularly at the Angel because it is local but have to complain about todays meal. I have had difficulty choosing food since the introduction of the new menu, today I asked if I could have the sausages off the sharing menu I(it's the first time I've seen this menu) instead of the pork and fennel sausages and was told this was not possible and given some strange excuse. I thought of asking for the children's sausages but resisted as I was sure it would be refused. The portion of fish and chips which arrived was so small I thought I had ordered a small portion but was assured I had not. All in all a disappointment."
