A word from Angelus Restaurant
Named after the Angelus Bell, this “bistro de luxe” is located in one of London’s last working mews. Formally the site of an old pub, the Art-Déco interiors have been cleverly incorporated into the original architecture of this early 19th century building. Dark wood, sumptuous fabrics and elaborate mirrors help create the atmosphere of a very elegant brasserie, yet the ambiance and service is welcoming and relaxed. Focusing on select favourites, the menu will include starters of Crème brulée au foie gras, followed by examples of fish and meat like Fillet of cod with chorizo, broccoli, grilled spring onions, toasted almond milk and brandade or Roast rump of Salt Marsh lamb, blanquette of shoulder and sweetbreads, seasonal vegetables.
Located next door to the Hyde Park Stables and just minutes from the Park itself, Angelus is the perfect place to enjoy an atmospheric brunch, lunch or dinner, or just a relaxing snack after a stroll through one of the most famous parks in London.

Diner Reviews
  • "I often struggle to find nice places for brunch in London, but this place is a little gem! The only surprise was that we were the only people there! The food was very tasty, and very reasonably priced (for central London). I had the Angelus cooked breakfast that tasted as though it had been cooked on a BBQ, which only enhanced the flavours in my opinion. The homemade bread is also wonderful. The staff are very polite and attentive, and the place has a lovely ambience - like being in an old-fashioned train station (in a good way). I would definitely recommend, and go back there!"

  • "We had a fabulous evening at Angelus as ever - the staff cannot do enough to help you and made you feel welcome - they even remembered the wine that we had on our last visit 4 months ago. As ever their recommendations for dining were excellent and we finished off the meal with the shared starer platter - just perfect! I'm looking forward to going back soon."

  • "overpriced food, dodgy meat, too much façade, too little substance"

  • "I have been to this restaurant for several occasions: several times with my husband to have a nice dinner, with my colleagues to have a business lunch, with my family to celebrate a baptism and a birthday. The food, the wine list and the service are excellent. The art deco decoration is very nice and classy. In the summer you can eat outside, there are a few tables on the pavement and the street is quiet. For the dessert or digestive drinks you can switch to the separate salon with sofas and dimmed light. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The lunch set menu is a bargain considering the quality of the food."

  • "Thanks for making the dinner relaxing and enjoyable - good food, great service and decent wine list, enough said!"

  • "I was looking for a good restaurant near Paddington station and chose Angelus purely on its location. The restaurant is hidden away on a quiet street, with riding stables on a nearby mews! From the minute we arrived members of staff were very welcoming; they brought us a highchair and stowed away the bulky pushchair. The brunch menu was excellent and really good value. We'll be back!"

  • "perfect welcome and service, friendly but professional, perfect food, the foie gras coated with caramel was incredible, wine suggestion great, and bill as expected."

  • "An excellent restaurant. The service was very friendly and professional. The food and wine was well presented and flavoursome. We dined outside and enjoyed the village-like ambiance, with horses trotting by and a nearby children's party. We enjoyed a long, leisurely lunch and were treated with attentive politeness. Definitely a recommendation for anyone who wants to meet friends."

  • "Interesting and different menu did not live up to expectations. Food seemed to have been reheated and in some cases overcooked. (Too much batter on deep frie oyster and overcooked. ). lamb rather tasteless; tough and uneven cooking (probably because of the reheating). Cheeseboard was mean at the price and wine prices are on the very high side. maybe we just went on an off evenong (it was also very early)"
    dined on 19/06/2014
  • "Good value, attentive service and pleasant ambiance. One of our party was gluten intolerant (this was flagged up in the booking) and some of the Angelus staff were not as knowledgeable about the gluten content of their dishes as one would have expected - but it all worked out in the end."

  • "This was our second time at Angelus and we loved it again. Bit hard to find; but, the space is very special, the host and service friendly and attentive. And, the menu was interesting with unusual mix of ingredients. We will go again. Great experience."

  • "We lunched her on a Saturday - our first visit for some years. Quite close to Paddington Station, an area which is a bit of a gastronomic desert. I had the three courses for £27; my friend a la carte. Former definitely the better value for money. Portions are small: My smoked mackerel was just two pieces, and the cream cheese pattie also rather small. We both had the clafoutis. The wines are expensive but a very good range. We enjoyed the Malbec Tomero from Mendoza. Charming service from the young French waitress. "

  • "Such a lovely restaurant. An inventive menu, beautiful presentation and very attentive service. "

  • "Very nice, avtive and friendly staff that took care of us. The wine list was extensive and pricing of wines was more accurate (acceptable) than in many other restaurants. Food was both delicious and beautiful, the dusplay atteactive. The resraurant was beautifully of art deco style"

  • "I like the converted pub layout of Angelus, it seems surprising to get such good food in such a place. The service and food we received were very good, the let down was the ambience as the place was virtually empty - there was only one other table occupied. Overall very enjoyable."

  • "This was my second meal at Angelus, and as before, it was outstanding. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful, and the preparation was spot on - incredible flavours and pairings. The wine list is very comprehensive, and the maitre d' knows it well and makes excellent recommendations. I also like the ambiance of the dining room very much - very classic and elegant, yet friendly. Although it's not cheap, it's definitely worth it."

  • "Superb restaurant. Charming atmosphere, inventive food, delightful service. Intimate and friendly. Truly a treat and exceptional value from the lunch prix fixe. Highly recommend it and love supporting independent restaurants."

  • "Nice vintage setting. A good octopus starter with tasty bacon bits. Excellent pork dish, with a tasty faggot. Was given all three bread options instead of choosing one."

  • "Great little place only 5 mins from Paddington station. Can't understand why it's not more busy. Food, service and decor lovely. Tables may be a little cramped if it were full but it was good atmosphere for Sat lunch with a splattering of in-the-know locals and people looking for a lunch hideaway from Paddington tourist hell. Will definitely be returning. Set lunch is great value - would love to splash out on the A La Carte next time."

  • "I had arranged to meet my sister who was travelling form Oxford coming into Paddington i was coming from Central London, Food and service were excellent and Ambience great and all so close to Paddington but i a quiet and relaxed atmosphere"

  • "The angelus did not live up to our previous visit. The food was expensive and not exciting. The service was good"
    dined on 25/04/2014
  • "Food while of high standard is not worth what they charge- over £200 for 2 people. Get much better food, value and service at likes of Coq D' Argent or Chez Bruce. Portions are small and don't expect to come out feeling you've been well fedt. Service was pretty poor considering there were only 3 other diners- slow in topping up the wine and despite me putting on reservation that it was girlfriend's birthday they didn't do anything (unlike other restaurants i've been to). All in all exceedingly disappointing and wouldn't go back. They can do much much better and you can find much better out there."

  • "And that's one of the many reasons that makes this a great find...let's keep it 'hidden'!"
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "The food was served in nouveau cuisine style slimline portions and charged at obese prices. Beautifully presented, delicate flavours, but lacked robustness and conviction. The service was a little patronising on the part of the French, but the Italian was charming. The place is owned apparently by someone is who half French and half English. Not sure of the signfiicance of this, but it is a lovely spot and could simply be much more popular if it charged a little less. But then maybe it doesn't want to be more any more popular than it already is."

  • "Good value lunch menu with attentive but unobtrusive service."

  • "Excellent choice close to Paddington station tucked away in a quiet street. Good food, attentive service and reasonable value."

  • "It all adds up - two gin& tonics, one bottle of reasonably good wine between two of us, shared starter of foie gras brûlée, mains and cheese - I asked for one cheese to share but they brought two servings - oh well. plus water, coffee and service, suddenly it's closer to 300 quid!! Even in Paris this amount of money will get you three star level cuisine, I think it's quite expensive for good but not excellent food and wine. I suppose in London this is the going rate, but next time I will be very careful with the cost. Ouch! "
    dined on 10/03/2014
  • "Outstanding 3 course lunch menu deal worth a trip for. The pork with potato rosti was particularly good as was the dessert - chocolate parfait with almond honeycomb and raspberry sauce - delicious."

  • "This was an excellent place for a business lunch - unobtrusive service and excellent food. The early start of 11.30 was particularly useful to us."

  • "My friends and I had a fantastic evening at Angelus. The staff are so helpful and go out of their way to make the evening really enjoyable for you, it always feels like a special occasion. As ever the food was divine, we each tried a different starter and different main and all insisted that ours was the best! The shared desert platter was sublime and the new idea of the selection of dessert wines is very good, although maybe should not have had them on a work night! I can't wait to go back for another delightful meal and to be made to feel so very special by the team at Angelus."
