Diner Reviews
  • "We had a lovely celebration meal at Avenue using the Opentable special offer. The set menu was much better than other restaurant's set menus offering a good range of options. The starters included clam chowder, fishcakes and carpaccio of beef, all of which were well presented and tasted good. We all opted for the rump of beef for main and it was delicious. The desserts were all imaginative and tasted very good. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The décor is very stylish too. Will definitely go again."

  • "I like The Avenue and have visited it several times over the years. The service and bar in particular are brilliant... the wine list is great and the staff are knowledgeable. The styling is fantastic. Sadly it is hard to get excited by the food which is distinctly average - very little skill seems to go into preparing the dishes, they are served quickly and are very uninspiring. Could be so much better."

  • "The new decor is great ! We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table immediately. Had the special Bookatable menu and it was great for lunch. Staff are friendly, attentive but not over-familiar. Food is interesting and tasteful."

  • "We had a reservation for dinner at 7:30 but weren't showed our table till after 8pm. The starters were nice, the mains took half an hour to arrive. Two people had the 4th of July menu which consisted of unlimited Boston butts but by the time you re-ordered a portion you already lost your appetite waiting... the Boston butts were made with thick cut bacon and the second portion was 90% grind fat, when I mentioned to the waitress she said that was the luck of the pot. The other two people had the lamb culets from the a la carte menu and weren't amazingly impressed... Puddings, apart from the brownie (which wasn't a brownie but a dense piece of chocolate fudge) were nice I wouldn't go back there for the food nor the service but for drinks"

  • "This restaurant is good for a really nice meal for friends and business whether it be lunch or dinner - it is always good and a great atmosphere."

  • "We took advantage of the Open Table offer for set lunch plus glass of prosecco. Good choice on menu, no dud dishes. Overall excellent value."

  • "We had an amazing evening in Avenue Restaurant. From the service to the food, we could not fault anything. We were even surprised at the end of our meal when a plate arrived, with 'Happy Anniversary' written on it (in chocolate) and 2 strawberry cakes and meringue sticks. It was accompanied with 2 glasses of sparkling wine. A lovely evening and we will be certainly visiting again when we visit London next"

  • "Avenue was just wonderful, from the moment you step in, you are transported to a very elegant and elegant era. The food was delicious and the service outstanding, our waiter Miguel was extremely knowledgable and looked after us really well. We'll be back!"

  • "Ate at avenue a couple of weeks ago. We went for the set brunch & added unlimited prosecco deal which was good value & prosecco wasn't an awful one. Glasses were topped up regularly My starter of lamb terrine was virtually inedible, dry & the salad leaves look like they had spent the last hour running on a treadmill -v.tired - not a good start. Friend had chorizo & squid salad which was ok but a bit overcooked. Mains of cheeseburgers were fine but to be honest, I've had just as good in a local pub so nothing particularly wow. Pudding was build your own Sundae - choice of ice cream, sauce & toppings - this was actually quite fun & enjoyable, but not particularly high end restaurant stuff although peanut butter ice cream was delicious."

  • "We had a fab dinner here on Friday 20th June, outstanding dishes and great settings. We lovesd the whole eating experience and will be going back soon."

  • "We had the set menu which was pretty good value, especially as it came with a glass of prosecco. The portions are small but there is an abundance of bread to bulk things out a little. We were made to feel welcome and the service was excellent."

  • "My friend and I had a fantastic time at Avenue, it was the perfect ending to a busy day. Miguel was so passionate about the food that even his descriptions were mouthwatering. He also had excellent knowledge of wines so although I'm not a big wine fan I ended up having several glasses during the meal. The service was attentive yet unobtrusive and the reservations manager Paul was ever so helpful, even offered us some great tips and recommendations for after dinner cocktail bars in the area. The food was simply gorgeous and I have been raving about the cuttlefish salad and BBQ Boston Butt steak to many of my friends. We shall be returning for certain."

  • "We had the special offer of two courses and a glass of proseco for £19 which is a good deal but I was rather disppointed with the food. I had the lamb terrine which was incredibly dry and would have been better if it was served with a chutney and softer bread. For the main I had the Boston Butt which is a slice of pork shoulder unfortunately I had to retrun it as my one small slice was 75% fat and not even crispy fat, the staff were very good and changed my dish to the chicken which ws very nice. The next disappointment was the Whoopie pie which was chewy and tasted bland and I was unable to finish it. The plus point were the staff who looked after us very well and were very accommodating."

  • "Great space beautifully fitted out. The service was spot on. The food was well cooked and presented and exceptionally tasty. Will definitely be going back there - drunch maybe!"
    dined on 12/06/2014
  • "I ad a great time at Avenue on Saturday afternoon to sample their new brunch / drunch offering. Plus points were the service, value and surroundings. Its a great space to hang out for a few hours and catch up with friends (there was 6 of us) over food and drink. Although the food I had was good, I have had better burgers at other London restaurants but taken into account with the Drunch offer (£10 for unlimited Prosecco or Bloody Marys) I would be sure to recommend a visit to Avenue to my friends. I will also be back one evening to see what the night time ambiance and full menu is like!"

  • "The staff were so friendly with just the right amount of attentiveness. There was no pomp from the staff which has often been the case in my experience with this type of restaurant. Smart but friendly!"

  • "Excellent service from a young and enthousiastic team. We had set menu. Good quality from a limited choice that suited us. Very pleasant good value evening with New Yorkish ambiance - without the New Yorkers!. Would recommend if you are looking for a friendly, good value meal in the area."

  • "Regular customers, but on this occasion booked for the two course lunch menu at £19 plus a glass of bubbly. As usual service was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and unobtrusive. Food was delicious, amuse bouche was not expected but a lovely touch, and bill was only inflated by our choice of a bottle of water and coffees . Remain delighted that so few potential customers know about it that the offer remains."

  • "@avenue has been on the London scene for a long time and still the service, food is very good. We went in a group, our waits were very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. Good vegetetarian options available. Loved the fish main course - great food."

  • "Opening week so masses of glitches. Friendly but often absent service, slow on foot delivery - over half an hour to wait for breakfast in an almost empty restaurant, boring tasteless smoked salmon with poached eggs tainted by vinegar in the poaching water - so unnecessary for a chef, sloppily presented, rather greasy-spoon Full American Breakfast, tasty but rather depressing. Cold toast and Luke warm coffee. Extraordinary really as there appeared to be masses of staff all busily doing something rather than serving breakfast. Why the chef took over well half an hour to produce the only cooked food required at that time on Thursday morning was never explained. Needs better management. "

  • "We had the £15 off Rise & Dine Breakfast and both had an excellent Smoked Salmon & Scambled Eggs marred only by a lack of butter with the bread/toast and a pot of tea almost being poured into my companion's lap by a very attentive waiter! But will certainly go again"

  • "It was my first visit to the Avenue since its refurbishment. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I like the new art work and love the chandelier made up of a spiral of glasses - very clever. The food was delicious, particularly the lamb main course. The openable menu is excellent value"

  • "This was my first visit to the Avenue. The service was very good - the only downside being that there were several staff asking us the same questions as they were so attentive! The ambience was perfect. The restaurant felt clean, smart but not pretentious. The food was very well presented and tasty. The scrambled eggs were a little cold by the time they reached me and we did wait rather a long time between ordering coffee and breakfast arriving but friends who visited the next day informed me they didn't have to wait so long during their visit. All in all however it was a very pleasant experience and I would definitely come back, in fact I recommended it to several colleagues on reaching the office."

  • " Food was delicious and beautifully served, so I would them 5* for the food. The waitress was perfectly pleasant but did not seem to enjoy her work. All the fake smiles and eyes rolling made the experience somehow awkward at times. Our bottle of Prosecco was appropriated by a group of 3 sitting next to us. The waitress realised their honest mistake and came to apologies. But all we got was a new bottle and a joke that we're "better off now"- quite unsettling remark. The decor, location and food are amazing. The service however lacks a touch. That might be a reason why people do not rush in there."
    dined on 30/05/2014
  • "A great value set lunch, not sure we would have paid the a la carte prices however I think you are paying as much for location as for the food"
    dined on 29/05/2014
  • "We had the set menu which was reasonably priced. The sparkling wine and sommeliers choice wine was nicely priced and tasted good. The restaurant was beautiful and the service was pleasant. Food all tasted very good but only slight comment would be that it wasn't very original. But again I'll mention it was a set menu."
    dined on 27/05/2014
  • "We went for the set menu which was good for value. There were four choices per course and I particularly liked the mango eton mess. The restaurant has a private room to accommodate a large party while the other diners could enjoy their meals with minimium disturbtion."

  • "We had a great time- brilliant cocktail list, good value set menu and the food was great"

  • "The two course lunch during the week with wine is excellent value and food was very good. Had a perfectly cooked steak. Loved the new decor. Service was very attentive but without being intrusive. Well done."

  • "Really incredible ambience, recently renovated restaurant with a great atmosphere! Service is attentive and food is nice, value for money is incredible although food could be improved."
    dined on 20/05/2014
  • "Excellent food and attentive service at the tables, but pre-dinner drinks took an age to come. We made light of it at the time with the waitress, but a little more effort to serve drinks more quickly is recommended."
    dined on 20/05/2014
  • "The service could not have been better. Attentive, friendly, discrete. The food was a little unusual but very enjoyable and prepared with care. The set menu with sparkling wine was excellent value. It made us happy!"

  • "The Avenue returns and it doesn't disappoint. A chic New York vibe complements a North American inspired menu. The buzzing atmosphere did not detract from an intimate evening with friends. A varied and interesting menu with a chocolate fondant to die for..."

  • "Wanted a quiet table, good food and not to be hassled by the waiters. All in all it was better than we hoped for at a reasonable price. Thanks"
