Service was a bit indifferent, with some long pauses between seating and ordering in a not very busy Monday lunch. Main course plaice was still pink on the bone and the whole dish not very hot although it was nicely presented. Starters good and the value would have been there if those mains had not let it down.

Our experience at the Avenue was a little disappointing. When we arrived we were treated with disinterest, we struggled to get the waitress to understand our drinks order, which wasn't too difficult, 2 bloody marys and 2 proseccos. My sister's pear and endive salad didn't have any pear in it - a different waitress was very apologetic and bought a side order of pear but she had just about finished. The bottomless prosecco we ordered was cut short when the waiter took ourr glasses away after 3 drinks and a 12.5% service charge was added to our bill which I queried as the service certainly wasn't worth £20, I got the feeling this had never happened before as the manager had to be consulted! The setting was beautiful though and we enjoyed the food, it was just unfortunate that the service let it down. We chose the restaurant because it is owned by the same group as Launceston Place which is our favourire restaurant but the two experiences couldn't be more different.

So I used to dine here often and enjoy the art and sense of occasion. Now it's more upmarket diner but not bad for all that. I'd probably save it for a group meal or drinks after work and a snack. The plaice was fabulouse however.

Had a lovely time at Avenue, what a fantastic place, chic but friendly. The Opentable deal menu with a glass of prosecco was really good. We were looked after by Miguel who was excellent, we even got some delicious canapes with our prosecco as an extra treat! The food was lovely, service was attentive but not intrusive. Would definitely recommend it and plan to go back.

  • Set Lunch

    Dined on 27/10/2014
The set lunch is a good price, but poor cooking doesn't mean good value. The room, since its transformation by D&D, is looking fresh and chic. Curried butternut squash soup was too thick, lacked depth of flavour and seasoning, no discernible curry flavour at all. Plaice was badly coated and pan-fried, may have been held under a cover so had become soggy when served. The accompanying 'grilled' pepper and courgette salad seemed more of a garnish and appeared to have been steamed rather than grilled, would have been far better oven roasted with some garlic and cherry tomatoes. Sticky toffee pudding was quite dry and had an unpleasant crystalised crust, although both the caramel sauce and salted caramel ice cream were excellent. Service Ok.

I visited Avenue on a Saturday and enjoyed their brunch menu with a group of friends. We found the food really delicious and it's 2 courses for £20 and 3 for £25 which is really good value. It's also unlimited bloody marys and prosecco for £15 each which is brilliant, when you want to sit and have a natter for four hours it's so good to not have to worry about ordering more drinks and paying for them, they come round and constantly top up your glasses which is fab. The interior is really nice and the service was great too. Would definitely go back.

Had a fantastic brunch at Avenue last week for a Mum's and Daughters day out. The food was very good and excellent value. We chose the unlimited Prosecco option and it certainly flowed. We never had to ask, the wine waiter ensured and the glasses remained topped up during out meal. The atmosphere is great with high ceilings and lots of natural light. We appreciated the oval shaped table very much because it is so much more sociable than a rectangle where you often don't get to speak to everyone unless you swop seats! The staff were friendly and attentive and we were made to feel very welcome. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Having read other reviews after booking I was prepared to be disappointed by lunch at this restaurant. However the staff were polite and attentive and the food was almost perfect. We both had steaks. One was as requested but the other was the rare side of medium well done - to rare it emerged for my partner to eat. we could have sent it back of course, but then it could have been right first time

A business lunch in my opinion is something which should take place in the restaurant with ambience, the acoustics and table arrangements should be such that discussions can take place discreetly, service should be prompt and courteous with humour, timing is usually of the essence and it should be in a location which is easy to reach from all parts of central London. I think the Avenue satisfies many of these requirements.

We had an excellent business lunch at Avenue, the food was very good as was the service. The meal was very good value for the area at around £55 per head including 1 bottle of wine between four and a lot of water. I would definitely use it again for a similar lunch, but would I use it for a more personal meal? Probably not as the atmosphere for me is not quite right.

I first went to the Avenue many years ago and it was a buzzing, trendy place. I was amazed when I could book a table on Tuesday for dinner on Friday. On Friday evening I soon realised why! The place was empty when we arrived and remained so all evening. The staff were welcoming, the décor was nice and our pre-dinner drinks were fine. We were only offered the set menu, but the selections were OK. However, the food was poor. I started with a salad which looked and tasted like a few leaves chucked on a plate. I then had the risotto! This was awful, it simply didn't taste of anything. I cannot believe any self respecting chef would allow something like that risotto to be served. To be fair, my wife had the fish and said it was nice. AVOID!

New decor, nice service but food is not as good as before. Ordered a Caesar salad which was had too much salt in it. Pork belly used to be their star dish with soft port under a crust of fat. Now it's thich hard bacon! Starter, main, shared dessert, water and 2 cocktails for £100! Not going back again, please downgrade here. Your up for a huge disappointment

We went on our sons 17th birthday as a family. We were looked after extremely well and had a very enjoyable evening. The food was great. Tasty and generously proportioned. Younger members were given a task of counting the suspended glasses for a prize - which was duly produced despite dubious procedures undertaken by said family members for obtaining the answer. A surprise mini birthday cake was brought at the end by the guy looking after us - we had a great time!

Lovely place with nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. We had the 2 courses for £20 brunch menu and would have given more stars if the second course hadn't come out cold. The waitress apologised and said they would make a fresh one, which would have redeemed the service. However, the same plate came out, having been reheated only, so that was disappointing. They also poured the tea straight away so it didn't have time to brew, bad form for a posh place. Drinks were a little expensive (£4 for a juice) but overall we enjoyed the experience

As ever (and I dine here for lunch four times a year) we were ushered to 'our table'. We enjoyed the special three course meal Open Table offer. I've marked the value down rather as a reminder to me to go easy on the extras - they bring the overall price up - rather than any reflection on this excellent restaurant. Service and food are impeccable. Buzz.

I visited for the second time since the recent refurbishment. My previous visit was on a quiet Friday lunchtime in August. Whilst the decor is attractive the preponderance of internal hard surfaces make it a very noisy environment. At times it was difficult to hear. This with the unnecessary music further detracted from the overall experience. My partner was unable to order a dessert because none of the items on the menu were gluten free. I think the operators should take cognisance of these concerns as they have expended a lot of money on the visually attractive makeover.

A very warm welcoming ambience with a relaxing bar area sitting by the large window overlooking St. James's - good choice of wines & cocktails. Moved to the upper seating area served by Miguel who gives it a very personal and professional touch - food was good but perhaps missed the 'wow' factor to blend in with ambience, though this may have been because we had a restricted menu as we were on the OpenTable meal deal (which included a glass of Prosecco) - willing to give it another go - wine was perhaps on the expensive side with very few mid-range prices to choose from - overall give it a 4 out of 5.
