Diner Reviews
  • "It's in an unprepossessing busy street, but you move past it's various and intimate bar areas to a modern semi-circular restaurant with the outer portion glazed from ceiling to floor. The lovely interior linen and tables look out into a gorgeous inner sanctum of gardens and Victorian splendour buildings. There is alfresco dining taking place in the courtyard from the attached St James Court hotel. You watch them; they can watch you, but all in a dignified setting; great fun. Service was impeccable; courteous and relaxed. Well-presented food from the menu exactly as seen on-line. Timely but not rushed. Try it!"

  • "What a great deal this was, 2 courses for £29 including a drink... service impeccable, food was devine, had a fab table in the conservatory right by the window overlooking the courtyard, it really felt like you weren't in London, amazing find.. Would deffo return."

  • "I'd go again as the food and service were good & enjoyable. but the place lacked some personality."

  • "A very nice experience. Dinner for me and a very senior government backbencher. We both enjoyed very well presented steaks and I had two good glasses of wine. We had friendly service without it ever toppling into being intrusive. The setting of the tables allowed us to have a proper conversation without ever feeling sepulchral. I will return"

  • "Booked the restaurant to have a quick 45 minute business lunch. Great ambience facing an inner garden but the food took 40 minutes to come out just for a burger, fish cakes and a steak. Food was ok but the service was too slow in spite of having put in a special request. "

  • "Came back to this restaurant for the second time and again, the service was attentive, the food well cooked and of course the lovely view outside."

  • "This was a surprise as the location was not a pretty as most, but once inside seated under the glass dome, the atmosphere transformed itself. I a great experience and the staff were knowledgeable and very helpful. I would definitely go back!"

  • "My sister, her guy and friends of mine went to Bank for the first time. The setting is great overlooking the courtyard but avoid the table on the left near the door as there is a draft. I recognised one of the staff from another restaurant and once again he and the other staff were attentive, efficient and had the perfect balance of not being intrusive. Most of us went for the 2-3 courses with a drink. The portions were very good and tasty but beware of the extras as this can bump the price up. Seabass perfectly cooked. Sweets good too. Will definitely return. Lovely place and well done to them all. Front of house also kind too. "

  • "My second time this month to Bank. My vegetarian friend enjoyed it, though we couldn't visit often, as the choice for her is limited. I ate veggie too, and the baby beets starter was lovely, with creamy goat's cheese; we both had an asparagus tart which was packed with flavour. A good choice of piped music would make a huge difference. It's a shame to see Nestle mineral waters the only ones on offer - there are plenty to choose from, and a British water would suit better, in any case."

  • "Very good lunch and well-priced - monkfish was exceptional. Venue still looks good, Service for meal could have been smarter - but they rang me as I'd left my credit card and were really helpful."

  • "The steak here is always good. Although both were a bit overdone they were very tender and flavoursome. The cheese was nice although could have been more adventurous and balanced with more crackers (there was also only one variety - water biscuits). Service was good; although our primary waiter seemed a little inexperienced he was very friendly. If you can get a table by the back window it has a very nice view of a pretty courtyard, which is lovely. Good value on the OpenTable deal. My fourth visit and I will go back."

  • "We booked the toptable offer-very reasonable.staff were attentive and drinks reasonably priced. Very pleasant if you are casually meeting up with friends."

  • "we really enjoyed the ambience at Bank, with an unrestricted view of a beautiful courtyard surrounded on three sides by attractive brick buildings, creating an inner-city dining oasis. Our party of 6 chose a la carte main dishes, as we felt the 2-course meal deal and drink for £29 was not especially good value. Smoked haddock risotto, asparagus and parmesan tart, flat iron steak in slices, warm goats cheese salad were all enjoyable. Next time we will ask to be seated under the glassed-in conservatory roof."

  • "Ive been here many times over the last few years and this restaurant is dear to me, for personal reasons rather than the food. The staff are lovely and you always get a good welcome. Its unpredictable as to how busy it will be. If you are unlucky enough to go on a busy night, the tables for two are very close together. I always ask for a quiet table and have never been let down, but I do go early evening which probably helps. Food is a bit hit and miss. Five or so years ago when I first started going, it was a lot better quality in my opinion. A year or so ago, they changed the menu and removed a lot of my favourites. They have most of them back now but the quality of the dishes I have isnt as good. All said, I keep going back :o)"

  • "Great service, beautiful ambience, average food. Cocktails good."

  • "Excellent steak. Waiter alright but not more. A second waiter stepped in at some point mixing different wines in the same glass (hey, they're all red anyhow). Atmosphere was 'nice' but a little cold. Girls welcoming very professional. Quite pricey at gbp 80 pp with shared starter, 1/2 bottle of wine per head & digestif."
    dined on 12/03/2014
  • "We had dinner early (5.30) so we were the only diners. So we had excellent service. Very attentive. Food was lovely too. We went for the 2 course and a drink option and there was enough variety that we didn't wish we'd gone a la carte. Eating later would no doubt have helped with atmosphere."

  • "Excellent food, very nice setting in the conservatory end of the building and the service was friendly and impeccable. Would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The best thing about this restaurant is the location overlooking a lovely courtyard, and the waitress service which was impeccable. My two big gripes were the speed which was painfully slow, and the steak I ordered coming medium when I ordered blue rare. We dined on a Tuesday, and the place was pretty much empty, perhaps 1/4 full, and yet each course took for ever to arrive. I don't like to rush my meals, but 20 minutes between courses is really too long. Secondly, in a restaurant that specialises in meat and steak, it is simply unforgivable to overcook a steak. Worse, when I told the waitress, she said sorry but no exchange. The starters and desserts were very nice, but for the prices being charged here, I'd expect much, much better."

  • "We enjoyed the food and wine. Shame about the construction site outside and somewhat slow service."

  • "The standard of food was fantastic, the service superb. It really matched our requirments for a night out. The ambience was relaxed and we could hear ourselves talk. Thank you to staff for a great evening."

  • "Very impressed. Service and food spot-on. Will definitely return."

  • "A really beautiful restaurant. We had a fantastic view of the gardens where we were sitting, and it was a perfect ambience before going to opera. The food was excellent and the service very friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience and a restaurant I would certainly recommend for a special occasion."
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "We were a party of 4 and the food was okay although I was not happy with my vegetarian option of potato & cheese pie. 99% of my pie was a thick pastry crust - inside 6 cubes of potato and some cheese sauce. Also, from my experience vegetarian 'pies' are not normally encrusted in pastry but in the main layered vegetables - I was therefore very disappointed. We also got a bit annoyed with the wine waiter. We feel it impolite to fill wine glasses and he kept trying to fill our glasses near the top and several times we had to ask him to stop.On one occasion when one of us said 'that is enough' he tipped the rest of the bottle into another glass before we could say anything. This let down the standard of service and ambiance of the restaurant."

  • "Beautiful venue overlooking internal courtyard. We had 2 meals from the TT menu, 1 was excellent (chicken) the other was a steak which was grisly and unappealing. If the steak had been of reasonable quality, this would have made a an excellent meal all round. The glass of wine with the TT menu was good. Service was efficient and to the point, nothing special / charming. Overall a bit 'ordinary'"

  • "the positive first - marinated salmon was very good and fresh.forget the rest beginning with the rather loud musichardly allowing a conversation aand the frequently coughing waitress and finishing with a piece of meat unchewable and some fatty potatoe Chips. Not to mentione the fact that no effort was made to try and console the guest to make up for the poor meat. - better look some place else"

  • "We were looking for an elegant venue to spend the evening with some friends. Apart from the central London location which was convenient for everyone, the great variety of dishes on the menu meant that there was something for every taste (meat particularly but also fish and seafood). Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the food."
    dined on 03/01/2014
  • "We had business lunch and all had the set menu. This is compulsory for all the dinners art the table which seems unreasonable, also there is only one withe or red wine to go with it which again seems very limiting. The food was great however, classic dished perfectly executed. Service definitely could be improved as they at one point just abandoned us."

  • "Good food, wide choice and good value, service good too - wines can be disappointing only wish they had better quality wine for the price."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "The lovely flavour of the food added to the positive dining ecperience where we were greeted with a warm welcome and lovely view. However the servings were so small it was a bit of a let down. O yes and the cocktail was nice and strong. If it wasnt for the portion size for the pricthis restaurant would be 10/10"

  • "Weve dined here many times over the last few years and are never disappointed. The restaurant is lovely and if you ask for a table that looks out over the courtyard, you'll get a really lovely view. The tables are very close together which is fairly typical for London. I always ask that they dont sit anyone right on top of us unless its really necessary. We tend to dine around 7pm so the restaurant isnt usually busy. Theres a good choice of starter, main and dessert and fairly reasonable for where the restaurant is located and what you get. We normally spend £90 to £100 for three courses for two and a bottle of wine. The restaurant has a bar serving drinks and delicious cocktails. This is one of my favourite restaurants in London."

  • "We visited Bank before a theatre show so the restaurant was quite empty, the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had opted for the toptable £29 two course option, there were four choices for each course with enough variety for us both to choice from. The food was presented extremely well and full of flavour, the portions were of a good size and was perfect for the pre-theatre dinner. We didn't have a desert, we chose a Cosmopolitan from the included drink which was delicious. We ordered other drinks with our meal and these were overly expensive in my opinion so only 3 stars for value, but I would recommend and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit."
    dined on 23/12/2013
  • "The food was a good standard and reasonable value for money based on the 2-course menu..However, I did not order a dessert as I felt they were overpriced. The service was good and attentive, but the ambience lacked. This may have been due to the small number of diners, and heavy rain outside."
    dined on 23/12/2013
  • "Lovely stake and ale pie, but potatoes extra? Malayan chicken came with a few cubes of sweet potato, had to pay extra for the rice, which when it came was nasty. Food was ok in general, just not much of it. Restaurant was cold, no heating. The waiting staff were not very attentive, kept us waiting ages. Would not recommend to any type of activity, would not recommend at all. DONT GO!"

  • "We had a lovely three course meal using the offer on toptable (2 courses for £29 including pre dinner drink (cocktails or wine)). the food was delicious and the waitress was attentive and polite to our party. I had the Thai noodle crabs which had a kick, but served on a cold bed of noodles which was unexpected. Main I had the cod risotto and thought it would be cod placed on top of the risotto - no, flaked and mixed in with the rice. However, it was full of flavour and with a nice runny egg yum!!! dessert we paid extra and it was a surprise to have the chocolate torte with popping candy!! Atmosphere was excellent everyone was in full Christmas spirit from entering the venue right throughout the meal to the end."

  • "My companion declared the meal "very nice", and I cannot fault the food or the service We had a lovely table by a courtyard and could hear the rain pitter patter against the glass conservatory roof.. If I were being very critical I would say that the food, while very well executed, was not particularly creative (grilled sea bass and what-was-effective kedgeree), and the waiter did not know a great deal about the wines."

  • "Went for Xmas lunch a wek before Christmas. The food was very good and the main course came with plenty of vegatables. Was very busy with office parties, but the staff kept on top of things very well. Would certainly vist again"

  • "We had a great table overlooking the Courtyard. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we all said we would go back again. Great for business lunches and lunch/dinner with friends. Would recommend! Service was good but not amazing."

  • "My colleague and I have eaten here before but on this Thursday before Christmas, it was much busier than previously and we were unable to get a table by the frontage of the glass atrium. We had the £29 menu which includes a glass of wine and two courses. My chicken liver parfait with toasts was good, and the sea bass plentiful and cooked properly. We had a bottle of malbec. Service was slow initially and got a bit better as lunch progressed. There were some Christmas office groups and business lunchers there. Overall, very good."
