We came for a lunch as part of my son's graduation ceremony. Both my sons are vegan and I was a little apprehensive about the choice available but we were pleasantly surprised that there were enough tapas to satisfy them and we all enjoyed the food, thinking it was high quality - especially the aubergine dip and the hummus, nuts and olives. Many thanks, Bev Daniel

Chose this restaurant purely because I was going to see a show at the Barbican and was short of time. But after eating there I would definitely go out of my way to visit again. We each had two small dishes which was enough because though "small" they are still quite substantial and full of flavor. I had the lamb tagine and chicken skewers. Both delicious. The food came out as ready so not all at once but this was nice as it paced the meal a bit. They have a large dining space outside which overlooks the fountains of the Barbican so it is a really pleasant place to sit outdoors. Something rare to find in London. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend.

Lovely afternoon Tapas after my daughters graduation at the Barbican. There was 8 of us, we sat outside and the food was excellent. We ordered one of everything on the menu as it's not vast added 4 x chunky chips and a couple of extra dishes near the end and it was perfect.

Great value lunch offer of 2 small plates and a glass of house wine for 12.95. I had the deep fried prawns and sardines on toast and both were delicious and incredibly well presented. After additional humous and bread nibbles this was more than enough for lunch. I will certainly be returning and recommending to others

Great find for a fast and tasty tapas business lunch. A scallop dish was very well prepared and seasoned. Coffee came quickly. The accompanying truffles were avoided: round lumps of pure butter. My friend's panna cotta was remarkable. One big No-No: Opentable cheques were refused, despite advance notice. I returned again for their recently advertised afternoon tea. While the crockery is imaginative and stylish, and the sandwiches very good, if somewhat over-reliant on basil, the pastries were a big let down: fridge cold and overall stodgy. Why not hire a professional pastry chef for the afternoon tea as well as for the main meals? I would use again and recommend for lunch. Would not be recommending for cream teas.

We love this restaurant and find any excuse we can to come to the Barbican just to eat here. The tapas style menu means that you get little plates of scrumptiousness. The staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful. The sad bit is the place is often empty. What is wrong with people? I know the downstairs canteen is very good but The Lounge is not that more expensive but it is a lot more special. Treat yourself; you'll be glad you did.

Having read the other reviews we decided to turn up at 5:45pm and our orders were taken as soon as we were ready. A good few of the dishes are time critical and the solution is to ask them to be brought to the table as and when they are ready. A lovely sunny evening and a succession of great dishes all of which we shared along with a good value bottle of wine. We had time for leisurely cocktails afterwards before our 7.30pm appointment with the great Neil Gaiman

The Balcony Lounge at the Barbican is geared for pre-concert/theatre diners, knowing that a high percentage of customers is going to need their bill in the same few minutes. The restaurant serves a nice variety of small plates and all the ones we tried were tasty and nicely presented. On a nice June early evening the outdoor area was a nice place to be and the service kept up with everyone's limited time. A good mid-range choice for some decent food; not badly priced considering the captive audience.

The setting is the Barbican, with its amazing theatres and concert halls and cinemas. The menu is tapas - delicious and fun. Excellent wine list. We were 16 for an early dinner and efficiently handled. I recommend outside seating if the weather is fine, and a cross section of the menu. Superb for pre-theatre dining, and easy to find once you're in the main arts centre. I always advise those who are intimidated by the Barbican to go straight to the Silk St entrance and ask. Meat balls, highly recommended, as is the lamb tagine. All the desserts were wonderful

We had booked a table for 6pm as we were attending a concert at 7.30. We arrived just before six and were shown to a table. We were ignored for 30 mins until we waved down a waitress. Our first dish did not arrive unto 6.50, the last at 7.10 . As a result the whole meal was very rushed. I am sure the vast majority of the people eating at that time were attending the concert, as the staff surely must have know. Great shame as the food was good.

We were two, for pre-theatre dinner. Order taken quickly. Food and drinks arrived promptly. All delicious and devoured. We ordered coffees & the bill. The coffees took 15 minutes to arrive and when they did, were incorrect and cold. Our neighbours had a similar experience. Inevitably we had to rush so as not to miss the start of the play.

In theory this is a good place - in the heart of the Barbican Centre. In theory you should be able to wander from the restaurant to your seats in the theatre in a five minute stroll. However, the stroll becomes a nervous run as you chew on your last mouthful of food which despite arriving an hour and a half before the show begins, some food arrived with 10 minutes before curtain up. The waiting staff tried hard, but the kitchen let them down. Food was well prepared, not overly salty, and tasty. Portions perfect sized. The restaurant is very hard to find and even more poorly signposted. There did not seem to be a sign on the entrance to the restaurant.. It is on the first level - same level as the Dress Circle right of the theatre.

I dined here with my grandson and my daughter. We were blessed with a sunny evening so we were able to take advantage of the outdoor seating on the terrace, which we all enjoyed. We were all impressed with the menu. We chose the three small plates and a pud. option. All were delicious and quite substantial - good value for money. Drinks were rather pricey but it was a special occasion so I didn't mind too much. Would definitely go again but it will not be for a while because I live in Devon!

The outside terrace of the Barbican Lounge is a pleasant and relaxing place for pre theatre drinks and tapas. Service is casual and the food was reasonably priced and good overall. Whenever I attend an event at the Barbican I always book pre-event dinner to start the evening off. The service is always good and the food heavenly and I love the idea that the food just arrives as soon as it's ready as this seems to add to the social atmosphere. One word of warning: make sure that your eyes are not bigger than your stomach ... we always order way too much because it all looks so delicious!

I dined here on Friday with the sun shining, a great hidden gem of a venue. Away from the crowds around Bank, St Pauls and Liverpool Street. It is quite hard to find and poorly signposted once you get to the Barbican. We sat outside in the sun, it was lovely, like a little oasis overlooking the ponds. The food was good, although the tables were ridiculously small for a tapas restaurant when you are supposed to share lots of dishes, we had no room at all!! Not a great design and definitely put us off ordering more. I hope this place doesn't become too popular, as it will be harder to get a seat!

I had a very nice lunch last Sunday at the Lounge in the Barbican Centre. They serve a wide array of small plates most of which are very tasty. I think my favorite was the prawns. It is obviously very convenient when attending events at the Barbican. It also looks like the outdoor terrace is quite nice. We did not use it due to bad weather. I would certainly give the Lounge high marks.

The menu is inventive and the food is well prepared. The layout of the restaurant is unfortunate and totally lacking in any ambience. It was very full during our evening meal. We ordered two aperitifs and told the waitress that we would order food when the drinks appeared. The drinks did not appear so we ordered our meal. and a bottle of wine. The first dish appeared after a while and we reminded a waiter about our gin and tonics. These did then appear as more food arrived. We put in a reminder about the wine and this did eventually arrive. The staff were very friendly and willing. But they were too few, not well trained and lacking system.

The 6 small plates that we tried were all extremely tasty and well presented. We chose mainly fish dishes , all great, but the paella and slow-cooked lamb tagine were especially excellent. The quantity of food was perfect for 2 people, and the service of the plates was well staggered, enabling us to enjoy them all, and take in the atmosphere. Fortunately the weather was good enough for us to sit outside. We also indulged in desserts, (lemon tart and tia maria & white chocolate cheesecake) which were larger than expected and once more, beautifully presented. The popping candy in the cheesecake was unexpected, but made me laugh. Our experience certainly surpassed expectations and we will certainly return when in the area.

Not the best tapas I have had but a decent stop for a quick bite, but relatively expensive for the quality, for such small selection they could be a lot better. A bowl of mixed nuts with drinks was stale, the desserts selection seem to be at odds with the nature of tapas dinning. The lounge itself is a relaxing place for a pre-show stop, on the occasions that I have been there, it's been surprisingly quiet. The staff although polite and helpful tend to be a little sleepy, although we were irritated by two staff asking if we were done in quick succession. But it is my place of choice for drinks and a quick bit at the Barbican, and I would recommend it on that basis.
