Don't see what the point of the re-branding was. If your going to do it then at least do something different. Actually telling people on a chalk board outside that its "just the same" sends out a very confusing message. Sadly whilst we have loved Whats Cooking since it opened we accept it was in need of a lift. However the food was generally good, but the service was a bit hit & miss. The paint job looks hurried - you wouldn't accept it at home. But Black and Red ! it all looks too dull, uninspiring and uninviting and appears inappropriate. Got a great idea how about a nice fresh bright colour scheme such as Cream, Red & Green and a catchy friendly name like Whats Cooking! Hopefully the Liverpool outlet remains unchanged.

There are too many good restaurants in Heswall now and Beef (ex- What's Cooking) looks tired and old fashioned compared to the competition. The food is typical American Diner which is great if that's what you feel like but not as good as it used to be in previous years Went on 80's night so can't complain too much - we got what we paid for

This is pretty much "What cooking" under a new name, which isnt a bad thing. Ideal for taking kids for a bit of early tea or going out in a group. Food is good and a decent selection on the menu. If you go there not expecting fine dining you won't be disappointed. To be fair the prices reflect this. Good service from very friendly, attentive staff. Overall, a enjoyable, relaxed experience.

The starters were poor, particularly the garlic bread which was basically a pizza base. There was no taste or smell of garlic at all. It was very dry and uninspiring. The waitress' reaction to comments was just Oh. The main courses - Heswall Chicken was not the spicy taste promised, just fried chicken pieces. The burger was dry, with no dressing inside. The fries were excellent. The onion rings were the spiciest part of the whole meal. The ambience was noisy but uninviting. Overall very disappointing, and not an experience to be repeated, given there are so many alternatives in Heswall to compete.

Formerly known as "What's Cooking" this was a family favourite for years but in recent times it has lost that unique atmosphere that gave it a real american diner feel. When I heard about the re-branding and the Beef Mountain Challenge (that I will be returning to attempt) I had to check it out. I ate at the restaurant on a Friday at 8PM so the atmosphere was great, really busy with a good mix of groups, families and couples. If you've never been it's worth checking out the food but If like me, you had fallen out of love with this place over recent years because it feels it lacked it's own loving then you may be disappointed because the menu has only been altered slightly and the décor remains uninteresting and bland.

This is one of our favourite family restaurants and the relaxed, informal atmosphere makes it a popular choice for our teenage kids. The staff are always very friendly and helpful - be sure to let them know if you are celebrating a birthday! The food is good quality and although the menu is now more limited than it used to be, all the favourites are still there - the fajitas and burgers are especially good.

2 of us had a main and a pudding with a beer each, this came to £30.00 which i thought was very reasonable. The food was very tasty and the service was excellent. We went on a Saturday tea time and the place was fairly empty. I would definately recommend 'Whats Cooking Heswall' to friends.

dined at What's Cooking for first time in many years. Service was pleasant, quick and attentive.Requests re seating made via e mail booking were dealt with well. I had skins as a starter and my husband had prawn cocktail. Both had ribs for main with extra onion rings. Was a bit disappointed that there was no automatic veg or salad to accompany the ribs, just chips. Could order but at extra cost. 2 courses plus 2 cokes came to just over £40. Too full for pudding but my husband hates cream and found dessert menu loaded with this so very little he would have ordered. Would return but would think about cost when ordering next time.

Poor food presentation. Elected to have 8oz steak meal with garlic topping. When arrived just looked like a McDonalds burger meal. Plenty of french fries, small steak and no garnish and no garlic topping. Garlic topping was added upon request. STEAK and CHIPS, that was it. Extremely poor value for money.

I was a regular diner at wc in the 80s loving the excellent choice and value for money. My friend and I both chose from the set price menu but although the menu seemed interesting, when the food arrived it was very bland. What has happened to the huge portions, gorgeous dressings and salads that were part of the What's Cooking trademark?

Booked a table for 7pm and had to wait 20 mins before it was ready. Then ordered drinks and food, the drinks took about 15 mins to come. Then large group arrived and ordered food which arrived at their table in around 10 mins while we were still waiting for about 20 mins after theirs arrived, despite ordering similar things to them and ordering 15 mins before them. Overall the restaurant needs to work on their time management skills. The restaurant also used to be decorated with American style furnishings however all of this has been removed and only a few paintings remain, which has removed much of the atmosphere of the place.

Starters, desserts and kids meals all good. DH and I had vegetarian main courses which were very bland. Fries were delicious though. Burger buns cheap and tasteless. There meat options may be better and due to the excellent service we didn't have a bad night. Had we had more time (it was late and we had kids with us) I probably would have complained about the food, although I did fill in one of their comment cards.

I remember the What's Cooking from the 80's when we would have to queue outstide the West Kirby branch for hours on a Saturday night just to get a table - I guess I wanted re-create the experience I had over 20 years ago (without the wait!). My friend and I had an enjoyable evening but struggled with the noise volume of the music and a party of 4 loud ladies. I guess we are just getting old! Enjoyed a nice coffee outside which is a lovely feature, but could have done without the music. Staff still as friendly and accommodating as ever though.

We have been to What's Cooking on many occasions and on this visit I have to say that the quality of the food was not as good as I remember. My husbands main course was too crispy and all mains came with too many fries spread out on the plate, which didn't look good. I have to say that the starters were all lovely and the onion rings came in a tiny bucket which was a nice touch, although I much prefer the old onion ring tree!
