Best Restaurants in Cookham
We chose the Bel and Dragon to
celebrate my husbands birthday with friends. We're all foodies and eat out regularly, so it rare to find somewhere that's exceptional. This place was great, we were shown to a cosy booth with plenty of space. we ordered whitebait and mussels for starters followed by lamb and seabass. The food and wine was perfect, in fact the lamb was so generous we asked for a doggy bag to take home, they even included the gravy in a cute little jar. I asked for a little candle for my husbands dessert and they brought out a lovely 'happy birthday' message in decorated caramel and ice cream. What really made it amazing was the wonderful service, the exceptional staff - genuine, engaged and had us smiling and laughing all night!"

My husband and i visited on 17th
August and had one of the best roast beef lunches ever. We will be back."
dined on 17/08/2014
Excellent meal. Ronnie the chef
is a star. The atmosphere they create (Ronnie and the staff) is unique."
dined on 14/08/2014
Friday night was a little noisy.
Not much you can do about that. Maybe a quiet area for couples"

A very relaxed atmosphere even
though it was Sunday lunchtime. The menu does not have too many options but there should be more than one tempting dish for all tastes. Sometimes less is more. Dog and child friendly which is excellent for a relaxed family lunch. Service is Dow to a tee with just enough attention. Our meals could not be faulted and the wine list is impressive. Overall a comfortable ambience, whether you are a family or a couple looking for a quiet relaxed meal."

This is one of our 'locals', but I
hadn't been for years. The interior is less rustic than it used to be, but it still has a (smart) country pub feel. The food was excellent - tried the suckling pig and am still thinking about it now! Service was generally efficient and friendly, wine list impressive, with a good range of 'normal' wines as well as more expensive heavyweights, and the place had a really great buzz. We're spoilt for choice of restaurants in Cookham but will be going back to B&D soon!"

This place is one of my
favourites. The atmosphere, food & service is great. The staff are always friendly & the chef Rannie is more than happy to come & chat about his dishes, he's very passionate about his food & customers. Bel & the Dragon have got it spot on."

Very friendly and patient staff
(we were late arriving and late leaving!). The staff seemed like they really enjoyed working there. Such tasty food in a stylish environment. Would definitely recommend."

Liked the Iinteresting menu with
good variety of choices."

I'd discovered the restaurant on
TripAdvisor but it was also the number one suggestion from a local. So glad we visited - steak was sublime, wine was gorgeous. A wonderful meal for two - finished off with the perfect Eton Mess. Lovely, spacious environment. You didn't feel crammed in as you do in so many restaurants. A really lovely evening."
dined on 21/06/2014
We had an excellent meal with the
roast pork being particularly good with crisp crackling and unusually fine roasties. One oddity is that on Sundays, the brunch continues all day so on Sunday evening half of the menu is rather inappropriate at that time of day - fried eggs and bubble and squeak as mains. The room was quite noisy, being all hard surfaces. We will go back to try their normal evening menu."
dined on 15/06/2014
Two blokes just catching up with
news - were early as it suited us, restaurant quiet as start of World Cup, service fantastic and simple steak dinner as expected. No complaints."
dined on 12/06/2014
An excellent celebration dinner
venue. Will certainly be visiting again soon."
dined on 07/06/2014
Excellent service from Felicity.
Noisy in the main restaurant due to lack of soft furnishings & a high ceiling. Wonderful Devilled crab starter but quite expensive at £11. Good selection of desserts at only £6"

Amazing food... Amazing
atmosphere! Staff are excellent!!! Could go back every weekend!! A definite - especially of you are a group of friends!!! "
dined on 31/05/2014
A 1st Class evening at the Bel &
Dragon. Ronnie and his team know how to serve up a quality evening. Top Food, Top Wine and Top Service ! "
dined on 30/05/2014
Good food and wine but don't go
for an intimate quiet meal. It is impossible to hear anything anyone says . The background noise is unbearable and the entire place is just hard surfaces which bounce the sound around. The tables are blackboards and they supply chalk. We thought it was to amuse the children between courses but it turned out it's how you communicate with each other! We won't be rushing back. Pardon."

I have been to the Bell & Dragon
on about 6 occasions and have always been more than happy. This is locally one of our favourite places to eat. The food is superb and the service excellent. The waitresses are knowledgable, extremely pleasant and always give a professional service. On two occasions recently we have taken friends there and they have all been very impressed. We will eat there again and again."

This is the third time we have
eaten at Bel and The Dragon in Cookham and we will return time and time again - excellent food, quick and brilliant service and overall a very enjoyable time. Thoroughly recommend it!"
dined on 17/05/2014
This local never let's me down.
Stylish venue, great food and also importantly knowledgeable, friendly and efficient service. "
dined on 16/05/2014
Despite the initial glitch of the
lager fridge not working - the staff put a couple of bottles in the wine fridge so 2nd drink was nice and cold. Waitress very knowledgeable of menu items. Bread delicious. Too full for dessert but starter and mains were lovely."
dined on 06/05/2014
Beautiful beef with masses of trad
veg and some non trad ones as well. Cornish whitebait was the highlight of the meal. Really tasty. £5 for a glass of Rose a little steep but a small niggle about a very tasty lunch"
dined on 05/05/2014
The main meal had to be sent back
as one of the main ingredients was missing. This meant my wife had to eat her birthday lunch separately. Very disappointing. "
dined on 04/05/2014
We have eaten at the Bell & Dragon
many times and this weekend took some friends who were visiting, they loved it. Our friends love eating in good standard restaurants and have attended several cookery courses and they rated both the food and service as outstanding. The young staff who served us were superb and the evening was a great success. See you again soon! "
dined on 26/04/2014
Our age diverse party had a great
evening. The food was delicious, served by friendly efficient and knowledgeable staff. The chef even invited 2 of our party in to join him in the kitchen ! Thank you Matthias for allowing me to shout orders at you! To thank us for our 'work' a complimentary chocolate mousse was sent out! Don't miss the 3 times cooked chips, prawn and crayfish starter and make room for the sumptuous Tarte Tartin! Delicious house wine at £3.50/glass is served in a large open bottle and we only paid for what we drank. When we return to the Maidenhead area we will definitely be back!"
dined on 05/04/2014
Thanks for a superb lunch - great
food and wonderful service. Also we really appreciated the annotated menu for my daughter who needs a gluten free menu. We were pleasantly surprised and how much choice there was for her, and that the chef was prepared to adapt dishes to suit her needs."
dined on 05/04/2014
We took a group of 8 family
members to Bel and The Dragon for Mother's Day. We had been given a 3:30 table but had requested an earlier time if possible. They were very helpful and called to offer us a 2:15 time, which we took. The quality of good and service were excellent and we had an enjoyable time. The restaurant was very busy but our wait staff were very attentive and we didn't wait too long for anything. Definitely worth a visit."
dined on 30/03/2014
We had a very good Sunday Brunch
for Mothers Day. Service was very attentive, Whitebait was delicous, soft texture and tasty, and Suckling Pig was also great tasting and cut easily. Too full for desert!"
dined on 30/03/2014
I took my family (3 generations)
for a Mother's Day lunch on the Saturday before Mother's Day. The food was great the choice fantastic and the front of house service excellent. Unfortunately I don't think the kitchen coped on this exceptionally busy day - every table was occupied. Our main course arrived an hour and a half after sitting down."
dined on 29/03/2014
First the good points. The food
was very good and well presented: calamari with chilli jam, macaroni with truffle creme fraiche (very good) and fillet steak cooked perfectly with triple cooked chips. The service was very good considering that there were two large groups. The bad points: The constant noise created by very few soft furnishings, in fact the restaurant is very sparsely furnished, and so many crying babies and young noisy children coupled with a very loud group of young families who had taken over a big area of the restaurant, it was like eating in a children's playground. A very unpleasant atmosphere to enjoy a Sunday lunch with my wife. I suggest they introduce soft furnishings to help with the noise levels."
dined on 23/03/2014
The vegetarian options (especially
for mains) were very limited, and clearly thought up by a meat -eater who has no idea about vegetarian food! Otherwise there were many meat and fish dishes to choose from and was well cooked and presented."
dined on 21/03/2014
Lovely food, attentive service and
a nice ambience. There were a mixed group of diners on a Sunday evening, families, groups and couples like us but all were well looked after, The pork belly was stunning."
dined on 16/03/2014
Being a greedy but discerning food
lover, this restaurant (I can't even call it a pub) hits all the spots - imaginative and complex but unfussy food combinations, fresh as you would not believe ingredients, you can feel the love in the prep right down to the tiny garnishes of viola petals perched on top of the seared tuna with a wasabi kick. It was like having a great conversation with an old friend just back from holiday; familiar food, refreshed with a spell in another world. Head chef Ronnie Kimbugwe has perfect pitch - this menu was the first I could honestly eat everything from. Service was impeccable (thank you, Leonie :)) attending to our every need. And the lobster really truly did melt in your mouth. Never had that before. Amazing."
dined on 10/03/2014
The food was lovely and staff were
accommodating. Unfortunately they were rather slow and kept forgetting us. Apart from this it was generally a good evening. The sirloin steak is fantastic."
dined on 21/02/2014
Having an emotional attachment to
Cookham helps but this is a stand-out restaurant which brings the best of English gastro-pub to fulfilment. Even with all access cut off (due to 2014 floods), the restaurant was full and buzzing, the staff attentive and friendly and the food and wine exceptional. Thank you for making our special occasions even more special."
dined on 15/02/2014
fantastic food and a beautifully
decorated restaurant - cannot wait to return! A* service!"
dined on 14/02/2014
We went to the Bel and Dragon
Cookham for the first time on valentines day. Having been to Windsor and Godalming and enjoyed them both we knew we were in safe hands, we were not disappointed. First class service, very friendly and attentive. Food was amazing great presentation and falvours were awesome. Cookham has had major flooding, that evening our only access was by foot along the causeway. Power issues in the restaurant were overcome and on the night just added to the fun and ambiance of the evening eating by candle light. If only for a few minutes. :-)"
dined on 14/02/2014
The setting was beautiful, the
food was out of this world and the staff couldn't do enough for you. We will definitely be coming back."
dined on 08/02/2014
We were actually staying at their
hotel overnight and chose to eat there out of convenience but we were pleasantly surprised. Great menu, fresh ingredients and excellent service. This place was still buzzing despite the floods in the area. Says it all:)"
dined on 08/02/2014
Really really good service -
welcoming, pleasant, polite, efficient Super food - very well cooked and presented - very tasty which I think they achieve by concentrating on a smaller number of menu options that most other restaurants - don't get me wrong - there's something there for everyone, but a pleasantly uncomplicated menu with great options (I went for potted shrimp and the rotisserie confit of duck leg) works really well. relaxed atmosphere - little bit "buzzy" which was nice - supper club was going on in the back room which sounds interesting! try it - you won't be disappointed"
