Diner Reviews
  • "There are two Big Easys in London, one in Chelsea and this one in Covent Garden, right in the centre of tourist nosh corridor. And that's why you should head straight for Chelsea - which feels like a real Southern BBQ dive. Access to the Covent Garden site is down a long, dark, ghost train tunnel. Spooky and fun for kids. Inside it's a vast industrial scene packed with tourists and kids, no bad thing but conversation is nigh on impossible. Service staff in our dark corner were all Eastern European. In marked contrast to Chelsea they knew nothing about the food, lacked any wit or verve and seemed to spend most of their time arguing with one another. The food in both places is very good and well priced. But for fun go to Chelsea."

  • "I booked a table for 3 at 8:15pm. Didnt not ge seated until almost half 9. We order the food and it came in about 10 mins but the lobster wasn't fresh. It was very disappointed as I take my cousin who came from abroad which is find it very disappointing."

  • "Delicious food and great fun. The portion sizes were huge which makes this very good value"

  • "My husband and I booked the big easy crab shack for our wedding anniversary. We made sure and booked in advance, because we had attempted to go there before and wasn't able to get a table without waiting for sometime. I particularly asked when booking that we place on a quiet table or somewhere with more privacy but that did not happen. We sat next to couples with hardly any personal space which was uncomfortable at time, especially eating what we are. Apart from that, the service was great and the food was delicious. But I would recommend you go for the set dishes as they are a little cheaper."

  • "Big Easy never fails to provide the best of all things with good service and excellent food. The ambience is an added benefit. Will be back."

  • "Had a decent meal here, not as good as their Kings Road branch. Less choice on the menu and service was pretty cold. Plus tables aren't very well laid out so I had to put up with waiters barging my chair throughout the evening. Food was very tasty and there's a nice atmosphere, but I would probably choose the Kings Road branch next time"

  • "We had the pre theatre menu, great value and food! The service was excellent too-would definitely recommend!"

  • "Great place to go for dinner with big helpings . Not child friendly unfortunately. And tables are placed too close together . Pulled pork and the beans were lovely."

  • "Great concept and the decor is perfect for the theme but the food doesn't live up to the billing. Everything is a little bit bland. The main issue is the tables which are only a few inches apart, they have absolutely crammed in as many tables as possible which doesn't really add to the ambience. Serving staff were really nice but not sure that I'd go there again."

  • "This is a busy restaurant and you're sitting far too close to the other diners. They had no chicken wings and various other choices were unavailable. The food was average, not a patch on other places and expensive. The waitress was polite and efficient."

  • "Dined on a Sunday evening at 8.30pm (July, 2014). Chicken wings were all sold out (we could have been told before deciding to order!). Pick'n'lick shrimp in hot sauce was a very solid average. Hush Puppies were quite nice. Mains: lobster bake which, the last time I went, was better - a bit of inconsistency then. We were also told they had sold out of muscles but had them in the dish anyway?! Lobster Fest (£20) was underwhelming. The garlic butter it came with was nice though. The surf'n'turf was pretty good - nice steak, well seasoned. We also had the ribs - again, they were better the last time I ate them. The waitress was a bit annoying and a bit slow. Food was very average + went cold v quickly. Not going again for a long time."

  • "My fifth time dining at Big Easy and second time in the Covent Garden restaurant. Waiting time to be served for drinks seemed excessive and actually by the time a waiter came over we had decided on food. This was at 4pm on a Sunday so not particularly busy in the restaurant. Starter was excellent but we waited 10 minutes for the starter to be cleared and another 35 minutes for the main to arrive, which one dish was luke warm at best when it did arrive. Had to flag down waiting staff for sauces and drinks as they weren't very proactive in offering them. Overall the layout and seating is nicer in Covent Garden but the menu and service is much better in Kings Road. We will return but probably not to this restaurant."

  • "3rd time eaten here, food good but downstairs tables a little too near each other, and small, a better variety of bottled beers may also help, but overall I enjoy the place"

  • "Having been to the big easy in chelsea I had high expectations. I made my reservation 6 weeks in advance as we had guests from out of town. Not only did we have to wait for over 45 minutes to be seated - i had to continuously go up to the desk to ask for updates. Our drinks at the bar also took 45 minutes with us asking 3 times to chase the order. The manager was apologetic and subsidized our first round but it was now late. Having spent a long time telling my guests how consistently good the lobster is with this chain unfortunately on this occasion it was disappointing, dry and over cooked. It seems this venue has become a victim of its own success becoming too busy to maintain decent standard. Very disappointed reluctance to return"

  • "Went here after finding it online by mistake, and I wasn't disappointed! Read a number of reviews which varied from Big Easy being the best place ever to being awful. I can only assume the bad ones were individuals that had an uncharacteristically bad experience and felt the need to vent, because everyone in the place was smiling! The atmosphere was great from the friendly staff to the decor and the overall ambience. Its setting (an old power station) was perfect, and it's rustic feel was added to when finding the toilets (down stairs, round corners, through doors, past machinery). The food was unrivalled - ribs were full of flavour, the pulled pork wasn't the mush you usually get, and the sides were all perfect. Definitely go!!"

  • "Have been to the Kings road branch, excellent. The food is AMAZING it was busy, service a little slow but for a saturday not unreasonable. Place was buzzing, food is just the best this side of the atlantic and prices not bad. In Covent Garden Restaurants know they have a captive audience and tend not to try too hard, service here is above average and the food is just the best. Well worth a visit but book in advance, they were turning them away when we walked in."

  • "The food at the Big Easy is really good. The down side is that every time we have booked, we still have to wait for a table for a long time. We went on Saturday and booked a table for 17:15 but did not get seated until nearly 18:00. When we were seated, we were scrammed between two other couples when there was plenty of space. The front of house staff was not very pleasant when I asked if our table would be ready soon - he responded 'we will come and get you'."

  • "The decor at the Big Easy is absolutely the best thing about it for me - amazing industrial chic, and I want a bar that well stocked in my house! Service was interesting though - our first waiter did not know whether the set menu was available, and told us it was before we realised it said only Monday to Friday. Half way through we got a new waiter who was a bit better, but we still had to ask three times for some milkshakes. The food was impressive, being served on a dustbin lid it was so much, but in terms of taste, I've had better. Everything was tender, but not the best ribs or pulled pork I've had, a little dry. BBQ sauce was too spicy too, a milder option would be good. To sum up, good looks, not matched by taste or service! :-("

  • "Fantastic BBQ and large portions. Service was friendly and so quick. Loved the style and atmosphere."

  • "Excellent food, service and quality of drinks selection. Would always advise making a reservation as the restaurant was extremely busy, even at 3:30 PM on a Saturday afternoon. The quality of the barbecue food was brilliant, with the ribs stand out for special mention. The open kitchen downstairs is a real treat so you can watch the food being cooked. Overall, excellent value, definitely a cut above Boeeans and has a huge advantage over places like Pitt Cue Co simply because you can reserve a table."

  • "While there were some very nice staff, they were never around when we wanted them which was unfortunate as we could have ordered more. There was an inability to deal with an awkward customer which meant all the staff were dealing with that one person and ignoring all other waiting for their tables. Overall it didnt ruin our night but it was disappointing."

  • "The food specifically the lobster was amazing! The bar is definitely something to see at this restaurant. My only negative comment would be the space between the tables made it feel alittle cramped but it was pretty busy so make sure you book a table in advance! Would definately be coming back for a second round, there was plenty of choice on the menu and good combos of food to share among a group."

  • "This is a very busy place, loud and full of energy. If you like to eat meat, lots of it, loud music and a crowded restaurant, then this is the places for you. The staff is friendly, most of them but since it is such a busy place, will take some time to get your drinks and food. I found the food to be ok, but not fantastic tho."

  • "Have been to the big easy in kings road a number of times and love the atmosphere and food. Had been looking forward to visiting the new convent garden venue so tried it for a pre theatre meal. The new restaurant is much more spacious than the kings road site but retains a similar feel. The pre theatre menu was fantastic value and the food and service first class. We will return !"

  • "The restaurant and food were both great, but we were located within 2 feet of the tables either side of us. It was incredibly cramped, hot and a little claustrophobic."
    dined on 18/07/2014
  • "The service was extremely poor. Our table was not ready when we arrived at 9pm. We received no explanation or apology and were simply told to have a drink at the bar (not what we wanted when we had already been for drinks). An hour into the evening we had only received our drinks order. We were not the only table waiting for food (the table next to us were complaining vocally). When the food did arrive it was cold; but having waited so long for it we were too hungry to send it back. The music was also very loud - ok if you are just two of you at a table but not conductive to a large group. You can tell the restaurant has not been open long. There are clearly not enough staff if you are waiting so long for what is ultimately cold food."

  • "I'm 57, and this is not a place I'd ever choose to visit - but my three sons (30, 27, 25) desperately wanted to go there, and they weren't disappointed. It is huge, incredibly noisy and geared towards the younger generations. Food was nothing more than OK - IMHO, but my sons disagreed - and service pretty average. This will be a big success, but make sure you know what you're going for."
    dined on 17/07/2014
  • "Excellent service, great decor, freindly staff, MOUNTAINS of food - i don't think anyone managed to clear their plate, even the cocktails are reasonably priced. can't wait to go back."

  • "I had heard great things about Big Easy but I wasn't impressed to be honest. I had the Steak & Lobster special they do on a Thursday as looked like great value. The Lobster was lovely but the steak was overcooked so a little chewy. However, the cocktails were delicious. They had trainee waiters working alongside the permanent waiters so the service was a bit hit & miss! I don't think i'll be going back i'm afraid!"

  • "Thank you for an amazing chow down! Everything about it was so great, from the crab claws to start, to the bbq blow out platter for main. The ribs were definitely my favourite which is surprising as I'm usually a lot more into pulled pork. The sides were also amazing: the chips were perfect, the slaw delicious as were the sweet and spicy beans. We were also big fans of the extensive choice of beer. The service was excellent - really quick and friendly despite it being very busy. I would recommend this if you want to have a quick meal as they bring the food out pretty quickly!"

  • "Far too large for staff to cope, waited over an hour for main courses then sent back because they were cold. Left without eating"

  • "We had the £16.95 for unlimited BBQ meats and a beer with sides - it was amazing."

  • "The menu is great, however everything was pretty much sold out, including the house wines and lager. The baby back ribs where sold out so got dry rubbed ribs, they were okay, the lobster comes out too cold for my liking and the mac and cheese has no flavour Desserts were huge and tasted good too. The waiting staff are okay, a bit hard to get hold off. On arrival we were put on a table with dirty tissues and unwashed glasses. Our waiter was rude about changing it all. The atmosphere was okay, a bit dull and made you want to sleep after eating. overall would rate it 2.5/5 probably 3/5 on a good day."

  • "The food was gorgeous. I had to change a couple of the accompaniments as I am pregnant and they were really accommodating. I wasn't so impressed that the barman seemed to mix mine and my fiancé's drinks together and my homemade lemonade was laced with alcohol! Good job it was rum not vodka or I may have drank more than a sip before noticing! Then my fiancé's starter was wrong but they soon solved that by bringing him what he asked for. So we got a complimentary round of drinks and a free starter. The food was so good and it was a birthday celebration so we weren't too angry but there was some definite communication issues. Our waiter was very quick to spot the mistakes and rectify them before we even had chance to question them!"

  • "This new place is not a patch on the Kings Road restaurant. The food is totally lacking, presented poorly & rushed. The ambience is lacklustre and the whole experience feels like you are in an over priced takeaway more than a true American experience. The staff were friendly enough but despite this I would not return to this restaurant again. It is definitely better to visit the original one on Kings Road."

  • "My family and i went there to celebrate my mum's birthday and we both ordered the lobster roll meal. When i went previously with my friends, my friend was able to order a watermelon juice with her meal, this waiter we had said we could not, in the end we did not get our drink juice and furthermore, when i ordered my drink i said fresh lemonade however, what came out was from a bottle. I then ordered another lemonade but that never arrived either. The waiter was very slow, inattentive and did not provide the service i was expecting from Big Easy. My first experience there previously was much more welcoming and the waiter that time was very efficient. The food was lovely but the service this time around was a let down."

  • "Ate here on Sunday afternoon & the place was buzzing. Mike our waiter was brilliant - looked after us very well (thx Mike - it makes a difference having a happy, fun server). The food was fabulous - tasty, freshly cooked & plenty of it. I had steak, my guests had BBQ chicken & my 7 year old had the burger from the kids menu. I tasted a bit from everyone's plate and it was all delicious! I'm sounding like an ad for the restaurant (!) but I was honestly impressed with this place. I just picked it randomly after looking on-line and liking previous reviews - I chose well - even my American guest gave it a big thumbs up! I would happily eat here again but next time will go back in the evening when I can enjoy the live music and cocktails!"

  • "Our table was booked in advance (a must) for 12.00 and we arrived promptly. The restaurant filled up very quickly. Service was reasonably quick, though we had a bit of a wait once we had ordered as they did make the rack of ribs a main, instead of a starter, so we had 5 main meals between 4 of us. Fortunately, we managed a couple of ribs each and they only charged for them as a starter. Portions are big. The food was delicious. The boys had Lobster Bake (Half Lobster, Jumbo Shrimp, Mussels, Crab Claws & New Potatoes, Hot ‘n’ Spicy or Garlic White Wine Sauce) and absolutely loved it. Good job they provide plastic bibs. Definitely would go again."
    dined on 13/07/2014
  • "The music was too loud and we couldn't have a conversation in the table - even the waitress couldn't hear us. The service could also have been better - It was difficult to get a waitress to make any orders. The waitress didn't tell us the options for sauces for the Lobster."
