A word from Brasserie & Wine Bar Toulouse Lautrec
Bringing a touch of French flair to Kennington, Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec is a traditional brasserie and wine bar set inside a lovingly refurbished English pub. Managed by two brothers Maitre D’ Nolan & Head Chef Florent, whose parents have run the neighbouring “Lobster Pot” restaurant since 1991, so there is plenty of authentic French charm on offer served by people who love what they do. Set over two floors, the warm and inviting space is divided into a rustic ground floor brasserie and an upstairs piano bar with free entry to professional live music performances played every night.
Thus recreating some of the moments Henri de Toulouse Lautrec was recognised for.

Our concept is to make dining out simple, affordable & honest without the cheap thrills. Our menu is based on a simple & affordable pricing structure, making budgeting your night out a breeze.

Diner Reviews
  • "We visited this place for the first time for birthday celebration. The service was very friendly and the food was excellent. They had most food one can normally imagine in French place. Probably they should have bigger deserts list. There was also live music that evening. As we had birthday the singer kindly sang for our table which was very sweet of her! We really enjoyed the experience!"

  • "Great value for money - the 3 courses for £27 option was well worth it for the incredibly tasty food. Service was remarkably efficient and fast, as well as extremely friendly. The place has a huge amount of ambience, which is surprising given the location, but it was easy to ignore the fact that you're a 2 minute walk from Elephant and Castle. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, then fantastic jazz in The Loft - with wonderful wine and again, very friendly staff. Definitely reccomended"

  • "We booked here last minute, food was fantastic. Service was a bit slow at times. Would come here again."
    dined on 11/07/2014
  • "On this occassion, the entertainment was playing on the ground floor, and was rather loud. Taking a table as far as we could, we were cramped in by friends of the entertainers who were doing the same thing. The service here was rather haphazard with staff either not understanding English or not being competent at their jobs. The food was of an adequate standard although we were kept waiting for different items supposed to accompany our meals causing some things to have to be reheated. When this restaurant is good, it is good, when it's bad........."

  • "The food is very good, but the prices are a bit high. The atmosphere is romantic and there is a fun jazz bar adjoining the restaurant. The upstairs bar looks like it would be a fun spot on the weekends. I would recommend if you are looking for a nice meal in the area."
    dined on 20/06/2014
  • "What a fabulous local find. Great informal jazz jamming session on the terrace with good food in an venue which oozes character...all at a fraction of a price compared to other jazz venues! I'm a fan."

  • "Awesome meal and service , will definitely be going here again , food was terrific and the service was brilliant "

  • "Went here with my girlfriend because she fancied some French food. We both loved it, the food is excellent, the service was very good too. The menu is not very big, but you get the feeling that all the ingredients are fresh and all the dishes made to order which is nice. They also have daily specials. At 2 courses for £22 the value for money is fantastic aswell. If that's not all, they provide live music throughout the week on the top 2 floors, we dined on a Monday and they had a jazz night going, which is an interesting twist. Overall I would definitely recommend this restuarant, I could not fault it."

  • "This is the second time we've been to Toulouse, and both times we have had delicious food, with very friendly and efficient service. The cost is good - prices for two and three courses, and they seem to have music on most nights - although that happens upstairs so you don't have to partake if you don't want to. As it's jazz, which I don't like, we don't. However, we will definitely go back for more of the delicious food."

  • "Lived not too far away for years and driven by frequently saying we should give it a try, had no idea it was a jazz bar and have never been a jazz fan, but I could possibly be now. Friendly relaxed service, fantastic food, nice vibe, diverse crowd and enlightening enjoyable live jazz all at a very reasonable cost. Have already started recommending it to friends and it's fun to see people react when you say you've found an amazing restaurant with great food and atmosphere in Elephant & Castle."

  • "this rustic and quaint french restaurant served up some winning dishes, must mention the 2 person cassoulet, amazingly tasty and filling! Ensure you go for dinner and combine this with a visit to the jazz cafe on the top floor ( ticket entry usually applies). Great night."

  • "A good value and very friendly restaurant in South London. The food is always fresh and melts in the mouth."

  • "As usual we enjoyed ourselves - good straight forward French Brasserie food. Service and welcome was faultless. Now that they have opened up the Loft - great evenings to listen to jazz (other music is also available!!)"

  • "the decor could be of 1 of those cosy comfy restaurant which u most likely to find within the walls of carcassonne, dont get confused , it is not but not as far as u think it could only please knowing the restaurant is the sibbling of the , lobster pot ,,just beside , so from seafood to the southwest it was .. a foie gras of so good quality could have done without that chutney and the drizzle around the plate , oops i forgot any garnish it is compulsary over here ...UNFORTUNATELY this is the only thing which didnt worked on my palet !!! cassoulet was pretty consistant and the assorted meat of a very good quality and more than adequate in quantity too"

  • "This is one of those hidden gems in London, as the food is beyond delicious but it's not packed and it preserves a super cosy, country-house atmosphere. They have live music every night and its stuff like jazz or blues, which adds to the super warm environment. But the food.. man, the food is just amazing, i can't begin to describe it. I've been there thrice and it's been perfect. The steak tartare is to die for, and just everything else is super balanced and tasty and just tantalising. I recommend it to anyone for the fantastic, unforgettable food and for a comfy atmosphere, nice staff, music and good value."

  • "Mini homemade bakery basket looked burnt but tasted nice (except for the dry croissant). My bacon & mushroom omelette was perfect texture and delicious. Ate half before having to take son outdoors for a bit from his moaning. Returned and husband said waitress cleared table without asking if I'd finished; waitress offered to either deduct from bill or order half, I opted for the half but to my disappointment the omelette was dry this time. Would return to try other brunch dishes and maybe try their terrace alfresco dining in the summer"

  • "I am so happy I stumbled upon this place - the food was excellent (the cassoulet to share is a must-have!), the service friendly and professional, the live piano during dinner perfect, and the live jazz upstairs afterwards a real treat. I will be back often I'm sure, despite living on the other side of london. Worth the trek!"

  • "A delightful evening. Good French cooking in an atmospheric setting, followed by drinks up in the loft room bar while listening to great music from the Jason Lyon Trio and the amazing voice of jazz singer Louise Ellen."

  • "3rd time I went ther the 2 first time was really food excellent good service but the 3rd time the food were not as good and we have been waiting 1 hour between the starter and the main course. I complained twice and disappointed to see they did not do any commercial gesture."
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "Named after the French artist, food is quite gastro but not pretentious - just well made & delicious. It has the feel of a wood-paneled study/library downstairs but the live music upstairs is the draw........well worth a mix & match"

  • "We had dinner with some drinks and had been very looked after by the attentive staff, especially the bar manager!!"

  • "I dined at BTL Brasserie and Wine Bar last night for my husband's birthday, it was a lovely evening!. The restaurant has character to it as it used to be an old pub. The food was very tasty, service was friendly and efficient. The atmosphere in the restaurant was a little too quiet though, was conscious of talking above whisper level as the tables are positioned quite close together! Should have some background music! Great value for money with their set menu which has a good selection per course. At 9pm we moved upstairs to the Loft where there was live jazz music which was pleasant. And added bonus was that it is free to listen to the performance! Would definitely recommend this restaurant, we are already planning to return very soon!"

  • "An excellent dining experience. We ate early as soon as the restaurant opened at 1800 and hence it was not crowded. The food was excellent and the service of a high standard. We chose the cassoulet which was superb, authentic and well prepared and presented. Highly recommended."

  • "Wonderful valentines dinner. Really special. Food tasty and service wonderful. The music is really excellent. The whole set up is just like Ronnie scots but with better food at better prices and more space! Love this place."

  • "Toulouse Lautrec is a great restaurant: delicious simple French food, relaxed atmosphere, and lovely bar upstairs. The best local restaurant in the area by far!"
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "We were the first to arrive at the restaurant and as admitted by the host , he was unsure that anyone would come on a Sunday evening. So he put the heating on and things got better... I would definitely go again, ideally on a night when I don't have to go to work the following day as the live music was great. It's got a good atmosphere and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly."
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "We really enjoyed our visit and would come back again on this deal. It's my new favourite french restaurant. The tt deal is brilliant and makes me want to go back more frequently. We had a lovely table by the window. I had the pork and my friend had the guinea fowl. The portions were generous and the staff were accommodating, swapping my black pudding side for green beans. I'm still raving about the cherry and almond tart. Great music afterwards upstairs."

  • "Went here with a few mates as we are trying to work our way around the world at London restaurants. Never had snails before. They were great. Nice staff, really good value. Only thing we could have done better is picked a day with quieter music as we were keen the chat and the music was quite loud."
    dined on 30/01/2014
  • "I have dined at Toulouse twice and each time have been impressed by the food and the staff. The courses are all nicely presented (not poncey) and made using quality ingredients. Whilst this is not the cheapest place to eat, it is well worth the expense and the toptable deal softens the blow. The restaurant itself is a wonderful, rustic space and they have live music every night which creates a lovely ambience, however there are lots of little quiet nooks and crannies if you prefer to dine quietly. This restaurant is now quite high on my favourites list and I will certainly re-visit and recommend to my my chums."

  • "The food here seems to get better each time I visit."

  • "We've been going to this restaurant for the past 5 years, always for special occasions, and we've always thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is very nice and the restaurant is charming with its lovely piano bar. But our last visit was very disappointing. The service was not good at all. The waitress upstairs at the piano bar was lovely and helpful but the waitresses downstairs in the restaurant were hopeless. We asked to change tables as, strangely enough, they put us in a corner where we had no space to move while they still had 3-4 tables left unoccupied. The waitresses were not attentive, forgetful (forgot to bring us water when we asked twice, the wine, the dessert menu...) and it's not good enough when you have to pay 12,5% service charge!"

  • "Nice atmosphere , great service , lovely food and music !"
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "We are regulars at this restaurant but were very disappointed with the standard of food on our last visit. In particular the pork belly dried out and burnt to a crisp. Practically inedible. I regret not sending it back. Vanilla ice cream had been contaminated with some almond flavouring which the waitress just denied was possible. At 85 pounds for 2 definitely not good value."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "Convivial atmosphere, good food. A really good local. Not the cheapest but well worth it."
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "Despite the location, we were quite impressed with the ambience of this restaurant. The food was good and service was excellent. Although a friend of ours ordered chicken but was told not available and instead the waitress suggested guinea fowl instead. When his food arrived the meat was white and the plate looked bland. We assumed it must be chicken but it didn't looked appetising at all! Overall food was not that cheap but good."

  • "A genuinely authentic French restaurant at the Elephant & Castle with an imaginative menu and extensive wine-list. We opted for fish dishes for starter and main courses and were not disappointed. The service was friendly and unfussy, and the ambience very pleasant. Despite being full the layout of the tables makes normal conversation possible. Highly recommended."

  • "Despite seeing this restaurant in passing we had never tried it. Glad we did, food was very good. We will certainly return to try some other dishes."
