Diner Reviews
  • "The standout feature of this restaurant was our waiter, Mathieu. He had complete knowledge of the restaurant menu, knowing what cuts of beef are best, and is able to explain the taste, texture and fat composition of each. He took the time to source for sauces from other restaurants upon request, took the time to talk to us, and even chased us down when we forgot a jacket at the end of our meal. Good food, I would recommend the ribeye steak which was fantastically done. One of the best steaks i've had. There was a tasty tuna appetiser and awesome desserts as well. Would come back soon."

  • "Good front of house staff let down by slow delivery of food from the kitchen for a pre-theatre dinner (at 6:30pm,so should have been quick). Food generally good, but portions small. Exception was the Red fruits mousse dessert - consistency of truck tyres. Great location and priced to match."

  • "The 2 of us went to BJ's for our 12th visit for an early evening meal, making use of the TT 2 courses £16 or 3 courses £20 deal. Starter was rabbit terrine . very nice, followed by half a poulet each. The chicken was extremely tasty with crisp skin, which even the wife liked. I had the cheese after which was also delicious, whilst my wife had nothing. We finished off a bottle of Malbec (expensive at £26.50) between us. All in the bill was £76. We like the place although the room is a bit quiet when we started at 18:30. It did get a lively atmosphere about half way through the meal. We have been many times before and will come again, BUT I do feel standards have dropped a little bit... waiters not quite on the ball, and menu not so good."

  • "I've been here quite a few times, I don't live in london but when we go there we always try to go for the pre-theatre menu. the food is fantastic, beautifully presented, and very well prices. This place is a hidden gem in London, restaurant-wise The service is always top notch too"

  • "Food in the brasserie was very good. Fish gratin dish was excellent and children's meals were very acceptable too. Waiters ere lovely with the Grandchildren and breakfast was very competent. The Hotel was full this time, last time we went it was not, but they handled the breakfast buffet very professionally in 3 areas. No queues."

  • "We looked forward to eating here but it did not meet expectations. Our wine order was forgotten, though they then gave us free desserts. Risotto was dry and overall we felt service was lacking"

  • "We went here for Fathers day lunch, the food was nice, well presented and hot would recommend the piglet roast. The down side is there are too many menus, an al a carte, a sunday lunch one, that means you have to look at a separate one for the starters and desserts and sit doing the maths to see which special price goes with what, and when you get the bill its so mixed up you need a maths degree to work it out. Tea costs £3.70 for a cup with a twinings bag in it, mark up or what? We ate at 2pm and the place was empty. Overall impression is that this could be a nice restaurant if it was not stuck in the middle of a large hotel, no atmosphere. Cost £220 for 6 people"

  • "The food was very good, and although the portions appear small, it's actually very filling. The service was very good and all the staff were very pleasant. Made a very enjoyable start to a birthday celebration."
    dined on 07/06/2014
  • "I booked the table for my partner and I for a meal after a concert at the Festival Hall. It was very convenient as it's only a short walk from the concert hall and then also very close to Waterloo station. I had read good reviews about the food, particularly the fish, and we weren't disappointed. We would recommend the restaurant, and indeed the fish. I have often found French food to have a very strong flavour, so was surprised that the dishes were a little milder than I had expected, but this was not a bad thing at all and everything was delicious - Glad that we still had room to share a Creme Brûlée, as this was probably the best course. The staff were all lovely and charming and the ambiance was good too. Definitely would go back."

  • "Nothing speciel: food was bland and the portions were tiny, even by European standards. Would not return."

  • "With a lovely decor and relaxing ambience, brasserie joel serves up delicious food. The baked camembert for starter was average but the scallops were amazing. My friend enjoyed her starter of lobster bisque very much."
    dined on 27/05/2014
  • "We went for the set lunch at a surprisingly low price. I am gluten free and was provided with gluten free bread in place of a bread roll, Gluten Free options were marked on the a la carte menu. The staff were charming and attentive. The food was excellent. We will certainly eat here again and recommend to friends. "

  • "Smart and roomy. Reasonable buzz despite not being particularly busy. Staff were very polite, and attentive. Menu has a fair choice. The lobster bisque was very tasty, the baby roast chicken was not bad. Sweet was a small domed cheesecake, the base seemed to be a digestive biscuit, tiny drops of raspberry sauce. My guest ordered cheese and bread - and I have never seen such tiny pieces of both served up, with a supplemental charge on top of the normal dessert rate. Overall I was underwhelmed by the food - not bad but small portions, dressed up to look nice, but poor value for money."

  • "Close to Westminster and the London Eye is a genuine french gem with good food, well presented and not over the budget, be careful with the amazing list of french wines as it could top up your bill."
    dined on 17/05/2014
  • "This was very much a last minute booking and what a wonderful treat it was. Mood lighting, great decor and exemplary food. Would definitely go back. "

  • "This restaurant had good modern European food. Atmosphere was quite good, but a bit hotel-like. The sea bream wasn't great but the lobster risotto was great."
    dined on 14/05/2014
  • "...poor service (how can a table be ignored at lunchtime with only 3 other tables occupied?!), decent food, good value lunch option, stylish decor. Won't repeat"
    dined on 13/05/2014
  • "We chose Brasserie Joel because of the predominantly good reviews and we'd like to add ours. Every aspect of our meal was excellent from the service with helpful and knowledgable waiting staff to the standard of the meal and speed of service (important for pre-theatre). Couldn't be faulted. "
    dined on 10/05/2014
  • "Dined here during the May Day bank holiday weekend with 2 friends. The food was amazing - we had the chicken surpreme, the scallops and the duck. All cooked perfectly with great presentation! Highly recommend the chocolate fondant for dessert - worth the extra ££. The warm bread rolls were a nice touch. We'll be back!"

  • "Visited Brasserie Joel for Sunday dinner. Had a charcuterie plater and tuna tartar as starters. Both were executed to perfection. As a main we decided on the Cote de Beuf which came on time and was well presented and cooked. Enjoyed a glass of good red wine as well. For desert we had chocolate fondants, creamy hot chocolate pleasure is all I can say about this. The experience was a good one and we will return. Service was very attentive, so thanks for creating a good evening!"

  • "We booked a good value pre-theatre deal at the opening time of 17.30 as a late lunch/early dinner following a long session at the Tate Modern. We arrived a little early but were welcomed in jolly fashion, seated and served without delay. Although the choice and portion size for the special menu were limited, all the plates were beautifully presented, very tasty and satisfying (between the 3 of us we tried 7 different dishes over 3 courses). Despite being located in a modern hotel, the large brasserie had a warm and friendly feel. This place would make a great pre-concert venue for the Southbank centre and we'll return."
    dined on 26/04/2014
  • "Nice quiet restaurant. Good attentive service. Excellent fixed price menu for 2 or 3 courses. Fabulous bread. We both had Peas Velouté followed by pasta primavera - both courses were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The one big problem was the price of a 250ml glass of Merlot - £12.50 - which we felt was somewhat excessive. The bill undermined what had, up until that point, been a very nice dinner. "

  • "I picked this restaurant in the Park Plaza hotel because it had good reviews and proximity to the London Aquarium. We arrived an hour early and they were delighted to accommodate us. The service was efficient & pleasant. We had booked a pre theatre time slot, the menu looked nice & good value but tempted by the main menu (birthday celebration for adult daughter). Everything was quite delicious, from the pre dinner cocktails, starters as varied as rabbit terrine and tuna tartare, through mains from perfectly cooked scallops to 12 hour shoulder of suckling pig, to scrummy desserts and delicious coffee (and we are very fussy about our coffee). Not somewhere I would have gone if I hadn't seen it on Open table but definitely recommend. "

  • "Really great value and delicious food - three courses for three people and less than £70. The restaurant was quite quiet, but I have no complaints."

  • "Great food, portions not large so recommend ordering a side dish, unlimited drinks end once dessert is finished, but still excellent value!!"

  • "Nice French food, atmosphere in Park Plaza Hotel was good ( we went Sat night) Baked Camembert was good, plenty to share for 2. Fish gratinee was ok, not the best I've had but enjoyed it. My friend had scallops which she enjoyed. Didn't have dessert, espresso was a good one. Herbal tea choice a bit limited if you want one! Staff were friendly."

  • "My boyfriend whisked me off to london for a Birthday treat, after looking online for a nice restaurant near Westminster we stumbled across Brasserie Joel, and the Cote De Boeuf really caught our eye- and what a treat it was! Our experience was fantastic from start to finish. They really did look after us and made us feel very special. The food was superb so much attention to detail, flavoursome and beautifully presented. We wanted for noting, our waiter, Anthony was so attentive. Thank you to everyone at Brasserie Joel we will definitely be returning."

  • "Fantastic! Booked the £32 deal for four people. They extended this for us as we had the reservation booked for 6.45 we didnt end up leaving till 10pm. Only dissapointment was the sausage main it was very very small for a man - I was glad I had the fish. Penne was lovely too"

  • "Good food and service, im fact very good indeed for a pre theatre menu. Wine is good but pricey. Will definitely return."
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "We took advantage of the fixed price pre-theatre menu which proved a great success. The offerings were imaginative and the portions were fine. Our first course salad was really excellent. Service was very efficient and courteous which meant that we were away in good time for our concert at the Festival Hall."

  • "Host was quite good, food was good as well but the service was severely lacking. So if it doesnt bother you to wait to order, get drinks and your food then try it. It is convenient for hotel guests and for Waterloo."

  • "I have booked this restaurant so many times I have lost count - the staff, food and atmosphere are amazing even when dining on the excellent value for money three courses and unlimited drinks they treat you like royalty. Food excellent everytime especially the cauliflower veloute. Going again this Sunday !!"

  • "I was a little nervous booking this restaurant for a birthday lunch,as I'd never been there before and the hotel restaurant status made me wary as to how good the food/dining experience would be. But my fears were entirely unwarranted. The restaurant is absolutely lovely, quiet when we went-romantic,chic,fabulously lit and the service was amazing. We had the three course set menu for lunch and it was delicious and filling. The waiter who served us was polite and friendly when we asked him what certain parts of the menu were. I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend it to anyone who likes a nice, relaxed, moodily lit, romantic restaurant with good wholesome, well-cooked food topped with excellent service. I'd definitely go there again."

  • "First time visitors having been to Menier Choc Factory theatre, my husband found Joel as a suitable eatery. Manager, Mehdi and waiter, Adam, were faultless. Somehow it was discovered that it was a birthday event and an unexpected surprise arrived. The manager found us a table in the music bar post meal and we felt well looked after."

  • "A lovely relaxed restaurant, good food and service......excellent location. Really nice bar with soft seats, waitress service and music next door. Good for couples or Groups....."

  • "Food was unimpressive- very simple and bland, not authentic. However, we got the set menu with unlimited drinks which was £32 per person. This was good value considering we had unlimited wine throughout the night. I requested a table by the window which was arranged and much appreciated. The tables are not too close together and the ambience is quite romantic so good for small, personal events. I informed the restaurant that the meal was to celebrate a birthday and they kindly bought out the dessert with 'happy birthday' written on it- this was a nice touch. Impressive service- very attentive and polite."

  • "I and four friends visited the restaurant for dinner and all of us had a fantastic experience. We were impressed with the smart decor and friendly service. There is a great choice of food and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and I'm glad I didn't skip dessert! The waiter always made sure we had our glasses topped with the wine and water and was always nearby to assist with anything. The speed of service was great, we weren't left to wait for any length of time. The value of food matched the level of quality and class received, I thought it might have been bit pricey for my friends but none were disappointed and thought it was definitely worth the visit. This is a great recommendation either with friends or partner."
