  • Very pleasant experience

I took my wife and 3yr old daughter here to celebrate an anniversary. The staff were very welcoming and were fully prepared to accommodate us and my daughter. Food was very good, the foie gras starter was lovely and the specials (Cote de Boeuf and Whole fresh Lobster) were very good. The only slight let down was pudding which I expect to be fantastic in a French Brasserie. The choice was slightly limited and while we went for Bread and Butter pudding (a bit english I know), I would have expected it to have been better than it was. Nevertheless, we all enjoyed it and the atmosphere. Recommend to anyone and I'm sure we will visit again.

  • The duck confit was good, but small portions

I enjoyed the Duck Confit, but do not think it should be necessary to order extra portions of vegetables or potatoes to make a balanced meal. The Tarte Tatin was very good and I enjoyed the vanilla ice cream. The service was attentive, but not obtrusive and the surroundings were pleasant, although the lighting was a little bright. Overall a pleasant evening, although slightly expensive. I would consider visiting this restaurant again.

  • Decent Sunday lunch

    Dined on 2/11/2014
The set menu for Sunday lunch is good value at £18 for 3 courses. Only irritation was the supplementary charge of £1.95 for 3 additional small slices of bread that I requested to have with my moules. The initial free bread and acnhovy butter was very nice. This small charge felt like penny pinching. Better to add something to the set price or the cost of the dish.

We took our daughter here for her 22nd birthday on a Saturday lunchtime. We had been there before but as we had a 15% voucher off food we thought we would try again. My daughter and I had venison and my husband had partridge. All dishes were delicious and I might try partridge if it is on the next time we go, as it is something I would not normally eat. The service was perfect - friendly but not overly attentive so that one might feel uncomfortable. We would go there more often if the prices were a little more reasonable. I would suggest a few more special offers to enable this wonderful restaurant to be within the reach of more local people.

What a lovely evening...really great food, excellent service, superb ambiance. You completely forget you are in the middle of Sutton...have walked past on numerous occasions and thought the restaurant looked very small, but on entering the premises, I was amazed the restaurant opened into a large space with well spaced tables and great decor. This was a celebratory dinner for my daughter's 21st ..The waitresses/waiters gave her a small chocolate pudding with a candle and sang Happy Birthday, which was a lovely surprise...she absolutely loved it. So nice to eat in a restaurant with no children present. It is very hard to find a restaurant where you could actually go for a romantic meal. Will DEFINITELY go back and recommend to friends.

I jhave been to this restaurant a few times and love the food. On this occasion the service was lacking had to wait too long to put in the order and get a drink when other tables were served ahead of us. When we did get going the food was lovely. It was very busy but hope the standard doesn't slip. Training is everything for a restaurant of this level.

Food was very nice, we had olives and bread to start which was good. For our main course we had chateaubriand, we ordered it medium and it came more towards rare than medium, however it was very tasty. The real downer on our meal was that it took 25 minutes to get a drink and the table were very close together. It was also very expensive. I wouldn't go back there again or reccomend it to a friend as overall it was an average experience for a top end price.

Unfortunately there was a very loud party close to our table which ruined the environment and made it hard for us to chat. The service was good albeit slow. Portions seemed slightly on the small side and the second lot of bread we received (the one we were charged for) was hard and dry. If you are vegetarian don't go - and if you do beware no one warns you the butter has anchovies in. The service charge at over £14 was stated as optional but we were not really given the option.

We ate here as a couple last Friday night. It's exactly what you expect a French brasserie to be. A really nice welcome from every member of staff on our way Ito our table. Bread and a delicious anchovy butter on the table in seconds closely followed by drinks. There was a mistake with my starter which was corrected quickly and without fuss as was another simple mistake with the bill. Despite this the service was very good, despite it being busy we never had to wait long. Three courses and coffee took two hours which was the perfect pace for us. The food was good quality, well cooked and very French. Prices are very fair and the wine list is reasonably priced by London standards with a fair number available by the glass or carafe..

We came here as a family for a birthday meal. It's practically next door to the train station so really easy to get to. The children's menu was limited but both girls had a delicious meal at excellent value. The adult menu was varied. I particularly enjoyed the poached pear, endive and blue cheese starter. Service was unfussy and always at hand. We wiill definitely be back.

I eat at Brasserie Vacherin quite frequently. That means it's good and I am able to be loyal - I live a mile away. The quality of the food and its preparation is uniformly excellent. Service is normally excellent, but this week it was irritating to be asked the same questions, three times, by two different waiters; were they competing for commission? The atmosphere is often a bit on the quiet side for a business lunch - the restaurant is usually not empty but not very full, so you can't help overhearing and therefore risk being overheard in a way that wouldn't arise if there was a general hubbub of other conversations. So I would encourage more people to use the restaurant!

Having not lived in Sutton long my girlfriend and I thought we would try the Brasserier Vacherin for a special occasion as she'd finished her exams. We arrived and were promptly seated, our waitress for the evening was Edith who was excellent throughout the evening and had a great demeanour about her. I had the crab ravioli and then the lobster for main (it was on a sepcial I couldn't resist) and have to say the food was perfect. All in all it was a perfect evening and I would recommend the restaurant to anyone who wants something a bit different than the local pub food.

Took my Mum here for Mothers Day. She lives in the south of France for half of the year and loves classic brasserie french food. We both loved the look of the place, the food was just perfection, plus the service was 1st class & friendly without being intrusive. She had the white bait and lamb, I had crab and cote de boef, some good wines also......all were excellent. I guess you only get what you pay for, but the only thing I felt just a little negative about was the price. I have no problem at all paying £150 for a good lunch for my Mum & I, but a £150 lunch for 2 at any restaurant in this location would feel a little steep......having made that small point; I have been before and will go again for sure as I live within a short drive.

Having made a Mothering Day lunch reservation, when we arrived we were given a breakfast menu. Once we explained that we came for lunch, we were given the main (lunch menu) plus the Mother's Day prix fixe menu. Drinks took awhile to arrive, but once we were ready to order from the main lunch menu for our children, we were told the only food available that day was from the pricier Mothers Day menu (bait & switch?). Luckily they accepted that we order from the breakfast menu for our children and in order not to further ruin our special meal, we reluctantly ordered from the only option we really had. Same complaint was lodged from another table near us. While the service improved during our meal, we are not going back.

I visited BV Sutton with my partner...to celebrate a promotion at work. We booked a table for 18.30, however were slightly late due to the trains...Nevertheless they were still accommodating. We chose to order from the Prix Fixe menu (3 course option). We were presented with Bread and anchovy butter...which was DELICIOUS!!!!!! Starters = mussels and soup were both lovely. Main course = steak and chips - perfectly cooked nice piece of meat! Dessert = cheese and brûlée - divine! Staff were so attentive with special touches like crumbing down and topping up your wine at exactly the right time! I will defiantly visit again! I've heard their brekkies are awesome!

The food was quite good - chicken liver parfait the best (really rich and creamy), but the duck confit and puy lentils really needed a bit more moisture around to stop it being the heavy dish that it was. Partner said his Breton fish stew was good, but it looked a little insipid to me. The ambience tries hard, (red plush banquettes) but the centre tables are rather far apart for the real authentic French brasserie feel and things like the huge hanging lampshades add nothing to the ersatz French atmosphere. Also the night we were there we passed a row of empty tables without chairs (opposite the shellfish bar) - which was not very welcoming. And charging for more bread is a bit mean - that would never happen in a brasserie in France!

First time eating here and all courses were of excellent quality. Only very small negative was that my partners seabream but maybe a little bit too salty , but she still ate it all! My steak was of very high quality and cooked to perfection. Got the hot salsa on the side which had a very spicy kick to it which we like. Usually when something is supposed to spicy it isn't but this was lovely! We've eaten in France and Belgium before and this isn't far off of not equal to bistros there. We will definitely be booking another table soon !

COULD become a regular haunt, but it WOULD have to pull its socks up. First, the food was DELICIOUS - & a stark contrast to the service as a whole which was S-L-O-W! Starters: when they did arrive, 2 bites - all there was! But - cooked to perfection - WONDERFUL. Main course: steaks cooked beautifully & the veg (pay extra) were tasty. Pricey, especially considering the lack of attention & slow service, the staff seemed generally disinterested . Thursday evening: they had someone singing...he was BRILLIANT and set a romantic scene...Just a shame the waiter put us immediately next to him - & we couldn't hear each other! We would like to give this restaurant a 2nd chance, however, and see if this is a typical evening or a one-off! A mixed-bag!

We regularly go to Braserie Vacherin for lunches and with the high turnover in staff the level of service can be a bit mixed. Today we were particulary disappointed with the service we received with two waiting staff - we had to ask to order our food, we were not asked during our meal if we were ok. One of the waiters basically muttered at us. I asked if they had a green salad and the waiter said this was no longer on the menu - surely it wouldn't have been difficult to put a few leaves on a plate or in a bowl. On the plus side our meals came out a lot quicker than they normally do when the restaurant has a similar number of customers.

Fancied a steak for Sunday Lunch and had a good one here. An empty restaurant (4 tables total) seemed too much for the manager and 2 waiting staff to cope with. Simple orders were annoyingly messed up and slow, SLOW, service, all seemed to be symptoms of a manager who was absent from the restaurant for most of the meal and disinterested when she finally made an appearance. If the bill had been 20% lower it'd be worth trying here again - the food was good - but it's too pricey to risk another poorly served, slackly managed meal. The owner of this place is clearly being let down by the manager - which explains the empty restaurant at Sunday Lunchtime. It's a shame because the place has potential.
