Diner Reviews
  • "Brasserie Zedel is a sleek operation. I've been to the Bar a number of times before and had good experiences and have tried a few times to visit the restaurant but something always came up! The staff are friendly, efficient and professional. The ambience is a busy, bustling, traditional brasserie feel. Maybe not ideal for those a little hard of hearing as there is a lot of background noise. Food and wine choices we made were great; I had delicious steak tartar follower by choucroute Alsacienne. My husband was equally pleased with his ham tartine then steak. Washed down with a lovely cote de Provence rose. All in all a good evening."

  • "Set 2 flights of stairs down from street level ( lifts available). The dining area is large, with high ceilings but with out air conditioning on a hot July evening the crowded restaurant did get a bit warm and stuffy. The food was good, only downside was my first choice for mains (lobster) had run out."

  • "Fabulous place! I love the grandiose decor, the chic pink tablecloths and napkins and the big open feel to the restaurant. The food was really good with quick service and pleasant, efficient staff, who were attentive but not overbearing. Then comes the price!! Outstanding value!!! You really can't go wrong. My plaice was amazing, so buttery and divine!! Would definitely return!"

  • "Don't be put off by the slightly tacky looking outside appearance. The brasserie is in the basement of the building and therefore has a subterranean feel but is a vast Art Deco palace below. Marble, mirrors and gilt adorn an enormous space which is a bustling hive of activity, though by no means overwhelming.. Service is excellent: attentive and friendly. Food is great quality brasserie food. They specialise in Choucroute which comes in substantial servings. The fresh fish of the day (red mullet) was excellent. Menu fixe is about £10 and very good value. Recommended."

  • "We dined at Brasserie Zedel with friends and we all had an excellent experience. The eclectic menu provides for all tastes and price ranges and the service is friendly and professional. Kate deserves a special mention. We will definitely eat there again when next in the area."

  • "Good food, good service and a reasonable price - stunning venue"

  • "Zedel sets a very high standard for food, service and ambience but most importantly for its location, value. Well done. exceptional"

  • "Wonderful dining room, comfortable tables and service pretty good overall - but the food was underwhelming. Traditional brasserie fare on the menu, nothing too adventurous in terms of cuisine, so it was a little surprising that we all felt a little disappointed by the dishes in front of us. We were a table of 6 and went for the pricier end of the menu including sea bass on mustard mash, entrecôte with cepes and rack of lamb as mains, and snails, frogs' legs and tart for starters. The one bright spot was the tarte tatin (min 2 to share) for pudding - well executed caramelised apples. Wine list all French classics, but not much info beyond region/appellation. Our bill with 2 bottles of Sancerre and 1 Cahors came to £62 per head."

  • "I'd heard great things about Brasserie Zedel so was looking forward to trying it. Our table was right next to the service area (in the middle of the restaurant) where they collect up the plates, stack the crockery, glasses etc. Consequently our chairs were constantly being bumped however the waiters seemed totally unconcerned. Our service was rushed and in no way added any value, the drinks order was wrong but no attempt was made to rectify it. The food was distinctly average. I will not be coming back in a hurry."

  • "I went to Brasserie Zedel for a post cinema dinner. Although it was quite late, the restaurant was still pretty full. The food though not outstanding was not at all bad, the service was good, the atmosphere buzzy and the prices reasonable. I probably would not choose this restaurant for a special occasion but due to its location, style and late night opening I would certainly go again post cinema or theatre."

  • "We went to Brasserie Zedel for dinner on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was fully booked and had a great, buzzy atmosphere. We had a great table in the middle of the room and the service was excellent. The food is good and very reasonable. Highly recommend."

  • "We really like the art-deco ambience of Zedel. Some of us ordered the prix-fixe. It was a great deal. Other dishes like the Soupe à l’Oignon and the sea bass were delicious. The Bœuf Bourguignon, however, was just ok. Overall, Zedel serves simple classic French dishes with excellent value. I will recommend this restaurant."

  • "I love this place - the decor, the ambiance, the French bistro chic and the food is very good quality for the money. Been before and will go again!"

  • "Zedel has a great ambience and the Art Deco stlyle makes it a beautiful room. The service was very good and they didn't pour the wine like they were trying to sell us another bottle, the food excellent - I found the menu a bit limiting - there could be a lttle more choice. But all in all it was a lovely evening and the creme brûlée was possibly the best I have ever tasted. Mmmm delicious! I'll Definitely go back."

  • "Had dinner pre-theatre and was a fabulous experience. The food was excellent, the service prompt but not rushed and was clearly a popular choice as it filled up pretty quickly. Would definitely recommend."

  • "I have been to Brasserie Zedel several time and it gets better and better, it's in the middle of Piccadilly and you would not know it. You normally find if you go somewhere regularly you get menu tired but not at Zedel the Steak Hache gets better everytime. I am working my way through to dessert menu and can't wait to get to the end so that I can start all over again. Service is very good and great for a business lunch you can be in and out within the hour, although the tables are a little close unless you are in the booth which is a great position to sit in and very good for people watching."
    dined on 26/06/2014
  • "food & drink fine but not the great value it used to be! 2 soups, 2 starters, 2 desserts & 2 coffees over £50! And 15% service charge too high!"
    dined on 25/06/2014
  • "perfect for a relaxed evening after work - it's such a lovely room and on this occasion we were given excellent service. The food is very competent and tasty - classic french brasserie style, and not outstanding, but very good value, especially given the location."
    dined on 24/06/2014
  • "Looks very promising in terms of french food and entertainment. The dining was really not up to scratch. Very impressive dining room and while we were not expecting fine dining the food did not live up to expectation. We shared tarte tatin for dessert, a french classic which was barely a resemblance."
    dined on 18/06/2014
  • "The food at Zedel will not knock your socks off. However it is very tasty and really cannot be faulted apart from being slightly on the dull side. However this really is a place to enjoy some informal food with good wine and/or cocktails. If you keep this in mind you'll have an excellent time."
    dined on 16/06/2014
  • "I keep going back to Zedel, again and again. It is perfect for lunch and for pre-theatre, I love the old-fashioned French menu, executed with style and panache. Great service - very efficient and non fussy, and even the tunes the pianist chose to play added to the ambiance. Faultless."
    dined on 10/06/2014
  • "The decor and high ceilings of Zedel exude class and elegance. It's certainly got the wow factor, but without a hefty price tag. Do book in advance as walk ins get filled fast if you come later. The food is substantial for the price, service is on par. Portions are not huge but the fresh baguettes make up for it. Definitely a place to impress. There's also a good quiet bar next to the restaurant on the bottom level and a live band area. 3 separate areas hidden underground through an unassuming discreet ground floor entrance"

  • "My fifth visit to Brasserie Zédel, which only gets better and better. The 20/30s décor is glorious, matched only by the staff who rank among the most polite and discreetly attentive anywhere, every one of them manifesting pride in their work. Catch the eye of any staff member and be rewarded with a genuine smile, the indicator of sterling management. Xenophobe nephew (a foreign person) was overjoyed with the ham terrine, and I with the chicken liver paté. The boeuf Bourguignon dazzled him, the duck confit quazzled me. Ice-cream soufflé with passion fruit won the day for us both. Zédel offers a five-carat Art Déco evening with more than a touch of urban class, but prices that re-invent the term. Honest money for honest food. Bravo!"

  • "Brasserie Zedel did not disappoint. Even at. 6.30pm on a Sunday, there was a buzz and the service was great. No claims to be innovative - just good, classic French brasserie staples and we enjoyed it very much. A coeliac friend was well looked after with a gluten free menu and staff were very helpful."

  • "What a gem of a restaurant. You need to see to believe the elaborate and beautiful décor. We booked to see a show at the adjoining Crazy Croqs after dinner. Thoroughly enjoyed it and a lovely end to the evening. If I had to find a small criticism it's that the portions are quite small but adequate."

  • "Lunched here many times. Great place with good value menu options in the heart of London and eating in grand surroundings."

  • "I have been with several friends for quick lunch or for business lunch at Zedel. The service is very friendly and quick (unlike during the evening), it is extremely good value. Never disappointed. Don't expect fancy food but proper French brasserie food. Will come back again and again!"

  • "Like being in Paris but better food and service. We all loved it."
    dined on 03/06/2014
  • "My friend and I had only 45 minutes to grab an early dinner. The staff at Brasserie Zedel were particularly accommodating on this point and made sure we didn't run late. We were quite surprised to find such a huge restaurant underground but were very impressed with the decor, service and food. I would certainly go back again if in the area."
    dined on 03/06/2014
  • "Good food as always, good value (especially the "formule"). A reliable place for pre-theatre as you know it will be quick - although the service didn't seem quite as quick and attentive this time as I have had before."
    dined on 02/06/2014
  • "My partner and I came here for an early dinner. I opted for the fixed meal deal which was superb and really good value for money. My partner had the rabbit with an onion soup starter which were both yummy. We'll definitely be coming here again."
    dined on 31/05/2014
  • "The brasserie is bright and bustling with vibrant French style decor. Food on the whole was excellent and very good value [ not sure about the the German cabbage food offering though - too much of a smoky flavour and choucroute isn't the best or most glamorous or even tastiest food in the world - it sat oddly with the other delicious dishes on the menu]. Excellent restaurant for lunch or evening pre and post theatre and couldn't be more handy for theatreland and Piccadilly Circus. Good range of wines available by the glass, carafe and bottle with delicious cocktails for pre-dinner drinks Service attentive and swift but I do object to a 15% "discretionary" service charge. For 3 people the service charge was over £11 on a £73 food bill?"

  • "The second time I have visited this venue. Great for special occasions with a brilliant ambience and excellent food at reasonable rates. The service was fast and efficient, yet we had a relaxing and convivial evening. For me, Zedel confirmed its place as one of my favourite restaurants in London."
    dined on 30/05/2014
  • "Portions however are very small. If you are quite greedy you may leave feeling hungry if you don't buy lots of sides. I also asked for fries instead of the new potatoes my dish came with and was told no! Service excellent apart from this."
    dined on 30/05/2014
  • "What a fabulous room! You can easily eat to suit your purse whether it is full or not so full. Staff very attentive."
    dined on 29/05/2014
  • "The restaurant was ... as advertised ... in other reviewers' reviews. The dining room space is really spectacular and the food is modestly priced for London. The endive and roquefort salad was magnificent as a starter. The service was very attentive. It's a beautiful space through and through. "

  • "I booked a table at Brasserie Zedel for my birthday dinner and it was wonderful. The dining room is gorgeous and food was spot on. Such great value for money considering the location and the stunning venue. One of my favorite restaurants in central London."

  • "Delicious and authentic French brasserie food, efficient and charming service, ridiculously low prices - this is the perfect pre-theatre destination"

  • "Zedel never disappoints. Good value food with a typical bistro menu with attentive and friendly service. It is high quality cooking in the middle of London. What more can you ask for? The wine list is still on the expensive side but this is a minor problem. I will keep going back. "
