Diner Reviews
  • "Visiting for the second time, after a year's absence, I was really surprised. The ambiance on a Friday night was terrific, with a live jazz band playing beautiful music. It was really like being back in the 20s :-) The food was great with the deserts being outstanding. Portion sizes are decent - not too big or too small and the price is fair. A great place for a post theatre dinner."

  • "We had a table of seven people for dinner. The food was great and the room is stunning. On this occasion the service was a bit slow but with so many people at the table I don't think my guests noticed."

  • "The venue at Zedel's is outstanding - wonderful, high, glass Art Deco cathedral space, yet every table feels intimate. The journey to find the Brasserie downstairs from the modest exterior was worth it. The waiting staff are polite and professional, and will answer a call - so many places insist on 'your' waiter or waitress dealing with you. Not so here. Food was good and authentically French. Bill was about what I expected, 15% service already included, please note. Lovely place to meet friends in the centre of town, and handy for theatres, films and galleries being five minutes from Piccadilly Circus. Age of diners also very varied, my daughter is 33, I am 62, and we both loved it. Will be going again."

  • "I booked this restaurant at the last minute. They seated my friend and I and we had the Prix Fix lunch. The food was good, but the main reason why I'll go back again and again was the service. The waitress, Joanne, overheard my friend and I talking about it being my birthday. After our desserts, she came over with a plate with 'Joyeux Anniversaire' written in chocolate and a petit four with 2 small madeleines. It was absolutely thoughtful and wonderful and made our afternoon. Everyone in the staff - servers, hosts and managers, were smiling, happy and attentive. Excellent afternoon. Great location, art deco decor, general feel good factor, and affordable food, this could be my new go-to place in the centre of town. Highly recommend."

  • "Brasserie Zedel was a wonderful find very close to Piccadilly Theatre. Un prepossessing from outside but a real gem inside. Very Art Deco. From first conversation with Maître D all staff were both charming and efficient. Menu has good selection French cuisine. I had Choucroute a la Mer and it was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend and will go again."

  • "Zedel is very impressive when you walk in, I love the entrance with its Parisian cafe style coat check kiosk, and it's glamorously high ceilings. However I'm not sure if this is a chain, but it does feel like one. Everything's very shiny, bright and branded. So for a casual client lunch, or taking your mum for tea it's fine but I wouldn't choose it for a romantic dinner. The service is snappy (perhaps a little too snappy as they tried to take my client's plates while she was still eating). The food is good (but portions seem small). On the whole, a good lunch spot"

  • "I love Brasserie Zedel. It's a real destination and the surroundings and ambience make it a really vibrant, busy place full of grandeur and occasion. Service as always is quick, attentive and efficient. Prices though are starting to creep up and I felt a little rushed on this occasion. The menu has expanded and they've taken away the purely French language one (the Brits ne comprend pas?). We were also told to order coffee upstairs as they 'don't have a machine'. Unbelievable in such a cavernous, glamorous place."

  • "First things first. This is a nice, beautifully decorated restaurant in a perfect city center location. It offers great value for money and overall good service. Our impression was that starters and deserts were way better than the main course option. Our Confit Canard was overcooked and dry, yet tasty. The Boeuf Bourgignon was also just okay. The meat could have been more tender and the chopped carrots that were thrown in as filler were not what you'd expect - they were not cooked with the dish but added last minute. Also the saue was not cooked down properly and way to runny. Would we go again? Probably to try some other main courses and form a second opinion. Try the Onion soup for starters - that was delicious"

  • "If you want to have a dinner with group of your friends after the show, this is good choice. Easier access and good atmosphere to have fun with your friends"

  • "Our 3rd visit but 1stfor dinner. I accidentally booked the wrong day but the host quickly found us a table even though it was 9pm on a Saturday evening. We like BZ for it's large bright dining room, French menu and value for money. A large operation but run like a well oiled ship! Staff very personable."

  • "Food is fantastic and great value, service is impeccable and the setting is opulent yet laidback and buzzy. This is a great brasserie and perfect for pre or post-theatre."

  • "It was like a brasserie in France but in the heart in London. The food was really good and tasty but some people in our party did not read French so they were puzzled at some terms on the menu."

  • "Lovely ambience, classic french bistro food done well. I will return."

  • "Love this place. Such a cool bar and restaurant. You feel as if you are in another world...maybe Midnight in Paris like. From the exterior, you'd never think what awaits you does. Beautiful decor, the exciting, mysterious Bar Americain and the charming dining room. Wit delicious food. Such choices and every one of them fabulous."

  • "From the posters on the staircase walls, the menu in French (you have to request one in English, if you want to break the spell), the - many -French staff and the high gilded ceilings in the cavernous dining room, this pays homage to the great Parisian Brasseries. All the classics are here: French onion soup, frog's legs, snails, steak and frites, creme brulee... and all cooked well. And the wine list offers well-priced bottles and - hurrah - pichets. The whole place is magnifique and eating here doesn't cost a bras and a jambe."

  • "I've used Zedel on a couple of occasions now, once for a quick business lunch and once for a pre-theatre. On both occassions the food was excellent and the staff efficient and attentive without being fussy. The food was very good and there was a great buzz about the place."

  • "I have been a number of times to Zedel and have never really been disappointed, this was my first visit for a few months and I was delighted to see the Onglet Steak back on the menu (last time I visited it was not). Portion size however was a little disappointing, normally you would get a lovely long piece of meat but this was a somewhat cut down version, not sure if I was just unlucky!. Only other poiint was the restaurant was quiet and so we were literally served our meal within 5 minutes of ordering which felt a little quick, might be woth waiters asking when quiet how swiftly the diner(s) would like their food delivering. Thats it, everything else good, service, grand venue and a reasonable bill at the end."

  • "Had a great meal January. But last Sunday a disaster. Poulet Riesling similar to lukewarm airline fare. Waiter at least tried right thing offered replace but the Mackerel and Sea Bream hardly better. An off night? But should a professional restaurant have such a bad one??"
    dined on 27/07/2014
  • "The food is good but the main attraction is the stunning interior, which gives a real sense of occasion. Staff are wonderfully attentive and friendly without being overbearing."

  • "Beeautiful setting for a restaurant with some great french food served. I had the onglet and I can't remember last time I had such a big piece of meat so beautifully well cooked. Service was very friendly and quick. Will definitely be coming back."

  • "Zedel has ambience in bucketloads, transporting you back to 1930's Paris. I had fixed menu 3 courses + coffee & wine for £19.75 which was excellent value, especially when ilês flottantes is dessert!"
    dined on 21/07/2014
  • "Brasserie Zedel is a sleek operation. I've been to the Bar a number of times before and had good experiences and have tried a few times to visit the restaurant but something always came up! The staff are friendly, efficient and professional. The ambience is a busy, bustling, traditional brasserie feel. Maybe not ideal for those a little hard of hearing as there is a lot of background noise. Food and wine choices we made were great; I had delicious steak tartar follower by choucroute Alsacienne. My husband was equally pleased with his ham tartine then steak. Washed down with a lovely cote de Provence rose. All in all a good evening."

  • "Set 2 flights of stairs down from street level ( lifts available). The dining area is large, with high ceilings but with out air conditioning on a hot July evening the crowded restaurant did get a bit warm and stuffy. The food was good, only downside was my first choice for mains (lobster) had run out."
    dined on 19/07/2014
  • "Considering it's smack-bang in the middle of Soho, this place is incredibly affordable! Top marks for that! Amazing, the food quality hasn't been compromised! Depending on what night you go, there is a different special dish, we went on a Saturday night and the special was Rabbit... Delicious although I find rabbit hard work to eat. We had a group of 10, and the restaurant was massive, but the service was really slow despite the adequate number of waiters in the room. It also took a good 30mins at least to place our drink orders let alone our food orders. Other than that, the service was friendly and we certainly had a fantastic night!"

  • "We ate here on Bastille Day, great fun, fabulous atmosphere, superb set menu, delicious food, super service."
    dined on 14/07/2014
  • "Fabulous place! I love the grandiose decor, the chic pink tablecloths and napkins and the big open feel to the restaurant. The food was really good with quick service and pleasant, efficient staff, who were attentive but not overbearing. Then comes the price!! Outstanding value!!! You really can't go wrong. My plaice was amazing, so buttery and divine!! Would definitely return!"

  • "Don't be put off by the slightly tacky looking outside appearance. The brasserie is in the basement of the building and therefore has a subterranean feel but is a vast Art Deco palace below. Marble, mirrors and gilt adorn an enormous space which is a bustling hive of activity, though by no means overwhelming.. Service is excellent: attentive and friendly. Food is great quality brasserie food. They specialise in Choucroute which comes in substantial servings. The fresh fish of the day (red mullet) was excellent. Menu fixe is about £10 and very good value. Recommended."
