  • "Great value and good service. Asked what the soup was, we were told, simply "carrot". Sadly, that's what it tasted like. It was well-carroted, but needed a lift with seasoning. herbs, spices - or something! Otherwise, the food was good, though presentation/ mix of colours was surprisingly lacking for a hotel restaurant. There were only 3 white wines on the menu. Incredibly. they were out of the one we selected; so there was a choice of two!"

  • "We had the pre theatre dinner of 2 courses for £9.95 each. The food was of very good quality, it was well presented and portion sizeswere just right. We had a glass of sauvignon each, it was a lovely wine, and one pot of tea for my partner, all for under £30. The staff were very pleasant and attentive when time allowed but they were a bit short staffed so my only complaint was the speed of the service and bread wasn't served when we were told it was on it's way. All in all a great dinner for the price."

  • "This just felt like a restaurant that couldn't really be bothered. I was there on a Friday night in the festival when Edinburgh is bursting; and with this place being in the city centre and attached to a large hotel, you would expect it to be heaving. It wasn't. A 7pm Friday night table and the restaurant was pretty empty. The reasons soon became clear. Shown to a table we were left for 45 minutes without a drink or a menu... and our waitress didn't even crack a smile the whole time. The food when it arrived was average at best. Certainly my risotto was like like warm pudding rice and seemed to be missing both the blue cheese and rocket it had promised. Add to this tinny irritating music and the dull atmosphere was complete."

  • "We booked the restaurant having searched for best steak restaurant in Edinburgh... this came highly recommended... Please note this is not a steak house! It was a Monday so I assume quiet night however it was dead. They have standard european/scottish menu and steaks are fair/poor for Scotland or anywhere... didnt have the rib-eye and made some excuse that the waiter made a mistake in the order... dont think so!! Not a bad place just wrong choice for us.. Food generally OK."

  • "The people were great, very helpfully indeed and the ambience was very good We were looked after very we'll indeed. The only problem was a very limited menu indeed, but having said that the home made picallily was the best Ihave tasted in 86 years. I would also commend the thick cut chips, again the best I have ever tasted. We will certainly go back to try again. Jim and Catherine Gellan-Adams"

  • "I booked this restaurant on the basis of the menu found online. However, once I arrived it had changed to such an extent nothing appealed at all. The place was empty apart from two couples elsewhere in a huge dining area, which mean there was little or no atmosphere. We decided to leave without eating; though the staff were very courteous it was a bad experience and one I can't recommend."

  • "I and a friend had lunch for the second time here- it was equally enjoyable both times- We had the £9.95 two course lunch- excellent value and not just comprised for a lower priced lunch- it was chef prepared in same way as would be a dinner menu- could easily go in on ones own if need be- I or we will be returning plus service attentive but not every five minutes asking if OK-"

  • "So we make an online dinner booking for 9:15 and we got there early around 8:50.they told us it will take 25 mins to get a table and tell us to wait at the bar.half an hr later they tell us that they cant give us a table and we can only get food at the bar.they said that since we made a booking online they cant say no which is why they cant give us a table because its too busy. Inspite of making a booking we werent getting a table.however we told them that they had to make an adjustment post which they added an extra chair to a table of 4 to seat the 5 of us.it was very disappointing they way they dealt with it and spoiled my mums bday celebration dinner."

  • "We visited this restaurant as a vegan and a carnivore because of the options for both. Our waitress was very helpful in pointing out vegan options and alternatives. When my main arrived unfortunately the chef had made a mistake and put creme fraiche on top. The staff were all very apologetic and went out of their way to compensate for this error. The restaurant is very attractive looking, with a comfortable atmosphere and the food was delicious, for vegan and meat eater alike. It was a lovely evening and we would definitely recommend."

  • "I get the feeling this place is trying to be something it's not... And not quite succeeding. Service was friendly but sporadic and disorganised. Food sounded promising on the menu but didn't live up to expectation. Was average, edible but nothing special. Wine had crystallised at the bottom of the bottle (?! This was the explanation we got anyway) and had to be sent back. Saw several people leaving as they'd had to wait so long for food or seemed to have just been forgotten about by the staff even though it wasn't busy at all for a Saturday night. Nice modern decor etc but lacking atmosphere. I don't think we will be going back...."

  • "Booked a table for 4 for 6.00 p.m. for the pre-theatre menu. Although the service was very good we had to leave before the dessert arrived due to lack of time before the start of the show. We perhaps didn't make it clear to the lovely waitress that we had to leave by 7.15 p.m. but we did feel that the service could have been a bit quicker as we had booked the pre-theatre menu. That said the food was excellent and good value for money and we would certainly go back to the Bread Street Brasserie. Our waitress was very apologetic and gave us a discount to compensate for our inconvenience."

  • "Once we were sat down we remembered we'd been before and the reason we didn't rate it before was that it was just a cold restaurant. The bread we were given was awful; stodgy and very pale - expected home cooked selection! Main course Fish & Chips - very fishy at the thick end of the cod so wasn't eaten Duck with.... not sure but it tasted the same as the plum sauce. There won't be a third time lucky for us I'm afraid. Disappointed"

  • "We wanted to gnome where I town for a late lunch which was not going to be Indian, Chinese or Burgers. This was perfect for us. I had the sole which was taken off the bone and was beautiful. My husband had a steak which he really enjoyed. Service was good although we were the only 2 in the restaurant at that time, but it didn't lack ambience, it was just the time we had chosen to suit us. We will be back."

The place was not busy but it took a long time for the kitchen to dippy the food. When it eventually did arrive it was very good."

  • "Eight of us had lunch on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon and the menu couldn't have suited the day better. The restaurant itself is lovely and waitress was really friendly. The menu consisted of pure comfort food. The soup (tomato and vegetable) was one of the best I've had in a long time. I'm not a fish lover but my friends assured me the fishcakes were delicious and looked lovely. The main of pork belly and bubble and squeak was just perfect. We did make the mistake of ordering too many sides, as to be honest we really didn't need them. What we did manage to get through was delicious though. Can't comment on dessert as nobody could manage one. Excellent value for money. Just a shame there were only two other people in the restaurant!"

  • "Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Pre theatre deal was excellent value as was the food. The waiter was exceptionally helpful, without being intrusive, and nothing was a problem. Couldn't believe the bill being so reasonable and being given a Loyalty Card for discount off future visit, with a £10 on it to start ! unbelieveable........there's more.....also received a flyer for next visit, bring a friend and one eats FREE, I mean, what more could you ask for ! Top marks all round"

  • "Bread wasn't warm to start with and was hard, I assume this was not the freshest bread in the house and certainly wasn't ready to be served to paying customers. Vegetables where under cooked. My girlfriend and I ordered the pan fried sea bass. Carrots and potatoes where solid and hard to bite into. Seabass was quite chewy and wasn't the best I've had. Really disappointing actually, we were going to say something about the quality of food as soon as it arrived but we'd rather not be fussy and figured that if the carrots and potatoes can't even be given attention the what chance have we got at ordering something else. Great service, girl very attentive, nice ambiance,"

  • "Booked a meal for 4 on Friday night. Couldn't fault the staff for friendliness and the food was very nice. However there were a couple of areas where the staff could have done better - 1. No ice bucket for the bottle of white wine 2. Additional veg that we ordered when we saw the small size of the vegetable for the 4 of us, didn't appear until after our main course was finished. The staff left us to eat the vegetables but didn't charge us for it due to the delay."

  • "Lovely restaurant within hotel that is not immediately obvious from outside on Bread Street. It is a lovely setting and the service is good and friendly. Food was was very nice - we both had the tart to to begin followed by turkey with all the trimmings and the pork chop. Just lovely and service was unrushed. We would go back and good value on the top table deal."

  • "The restaurant was very quiet--only a few people in a large room. The furnishings were modern and the colours-grey and turquoise gave a rather stark and cold feel. The food was good but nothing to write home about if you are a foodie. The service was good and was reasonably priced. The wine list wasn't very exciting with a limited choice. As always, in restaurants, it was overpriced. I would recommend it to others as ok but not more than that. I preferred the old restaurant room which had lots of traditional white linen table line and an old-world continental feel."

  • "The restaurant was difficult to find and not well sign posted. No-one at the service desk when we each arrived separately. Once shown to our table, things very much started to look up. Great pre-theatre menu with unusual choices and good choice of wines by the glass or bottle. Our sea bream fillet and sauce was very tasty and well presented. The leek mash was good too. We were glad to have ordered a side dish of parsnips. Brownie dessert was to die for. Good coffee and very efficient and friendly service. The restaurant is quite big but nicely sub divided so it is not intimidating."

  • "my 3rd vegan evening at the point hotel. All I can say is that it gets better every time! The menu was a great range of fresh and high quality gourmet food. This place each surpasses all of the vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Edinburgh or glasgow for that matter (including Banns and for a fraction of the cost) The staff at the point hotel are so efficient. Its like go in get your drinks, take your order, get your food and get your bill when your ready. this means none of this waiting half an hour when your ready to leave. The star of the night was the vegan tiramisu. This is the best tiramisu I have ever tasted and this feeling was shared among the non-vegan I was with. (please keep on the menu)"

All minor things but things that really should have been finalised before reopening. Staff were friendly and efficient, and the food was fine if nothing special."

  • "this was the fourth time i have been to the bread street brasserie and i am always amazed at the incredible quality of food, especially considering how reasonably priced it is. also, the service is always friendly and efficient, the only downside being the restaurant is very quiet when i have been there which is a incredible shame considering the work put into the standard of food."
