  • "I took my parents for a treat for a nice Sunday roast ... the starters may have been pedestrian (tomato soup and prawn cocktail) but they were excellent quality and huge portions, the main meal of Sunday roast was excellent quality and very generous portions for the price, very impressed. Excellent service from the serving staff and a good price. Only comment would be that for Sunday lunch in a room that had perhaps 20 to 30 tables, only 3 tables being occupied took away from the ambiance, but did mean the food came out quickly (a bonus when you were as hungry as I was!)"

  • "We booked the Graduation Meal at £25 per head. We were very pleased with the standard of the food which was served in a very pleasant, efficient manner. There is a nice area downstairs for pre-dinner drinks., We would happily recommend this restaurant to others"

  • "We were in Loughborough for our daughter's graduation. Disappointing not to have the choice of some of the more interesting dishes usually on the menu. Considering BL only had to concentrate on a few simple dishes it was disappointing. My nut and goats cheese bruschetta had 2 tiny slices of goats cheese. The chicken kromskies looked as though they had come straight from a box and just heated up… I could be wrong here. The steaks were chewy but the sea bass was good although needed more sauce since the crushed new potatoes were very dry. The deserts were delicious! No one asked us if we wanted coffees or anything extra after the meal. Staff were very pleasant but did not make any effort to engage with us could have been so much better"

  • "This was our first visit and booked in advance as had come to the area from Surrey to see old friends. Particularly wanted disabled access - a few steps to climb to get through with our mobility impaired guest and also a toddler in a pushchair (which had to be lifted in) but we were seated downstairs which was fine and didn't have to tackle the stairs to the first floor. Menu choices very good and varied. Good value for money. Service a bit on the slow side."

  • "On the whole the food was tasty and well prepared, however, the lobster my wife had (she loves Lobster) was overcooked and rubbery - not good at £24! The presentation was a little pretentious and i can never see the point of wooden eating surfaces when you clearly own plates! The portion sizes were small for the £ charged. We have eaten at the Browns Lane Restaurant a number of times before, although not for a couple of years, so it was disappointing for it not to be as good as it used to be. Overall not good value."

  • "Great service, two out of our four starters had to be sent back as one was undercooked and one was burnt, the waitress was very apologetic and replaced them immediately. The staff are exceptional although the food let the outing down on this occasion."

  • "We had a beautiful meal for our wedding anniversary. Would love to go back again soon."
    dined on 23/06/2014
  • "The food is beautiful and place is lovely... Massive let down is staff... Took 10 mins to get drink downstairs only one other person was at bar? Staff upstairs had to ask for drinks... Bored of waiting for bill so had to go downstairs and ask to pay it... Again another 10 min wait! Will return but only because food is soo good... 10 mins isn't a long time but it is when somewhere isn't at all busy... Staff need retraining not to be hanging around the upstairs bar"

  • "We arrived on time at 9 pm , the young service was indifferent , table next to ours waited over an hour for desert , we ordered within 15 mins , then waited another 45 mins until food served my vegetable sempora was poor, no sempora batter on vegetables , pork dumplings ok. Then we waited another hour for main courses, all poor, lamb had little taste, as did the venison, the belly pork was over cooked the day before was was dry. The excuse, the head chef had walked out. My answer was don't book up the resturant or warn the customer of possible long delays. We walked out at 11.15 with no desert and no tip. Avoid this restaurant until they sort out the issues of an inattentive young service, poor food, and they gain a new chef. "

  • "We had Sunday lunch here and it was great! Yorkshire puddings were a bit heavy but otherwise no complaints at all. The staff were excellent too!"
    dined on 25/05/2014
  • "Lovely greeting when we arrived, all staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. The menu offered an array of mouthwatering dishes over 3 courses. The food we ordered was delicious, piping hot and well presented. We loved Brown's Lane and will be back soon. I would highly recommend this restaurant and bar to anyone wanting a special night out. Love Loughborough!"

  • "The restaurant looked good and the staff were excellent. The main course was fish and chips, chips were really good and the fish well cooked, but it was a small portion, ok for me but not a young man. The ambience was spoilt by a group of women across the room who were shouting at each other despite the other diners were only ourselves and two businessmen at another table trying to talk at a reasonable volume to our respective fellow diner. The decor (wooden floor, low ceiling) did not absorb any of their noise and consequently our quiet conversation was repeatedly interrupted and difficult to hear. I would return......and hope for more considerate diners in the restaurant!"

  • "Fixed Price lunch was excellent. Each dish well presented and each very tasty with fresh ingredients. One guest paid extra for the steak but the piece was a good size, well-cooked and tender and looked like a page from a cookery book - well done! The portions were good value for the price. Choc pud was super. Only issue, I don't like being put next to others at tables when restaurants are not full but many places do this for some odd reason. I am not local, but I understand many locals really rate this place and I can see why."

  • "11 of our family from all over England and Wales met on a Friday evening preparing for a weekend wedding , staff were very friendly and efficient , everyone was happy with the dishes they ordered which included Belly Pork , Monkfish , Venison and Steak . would recommend this venue to anyone visiting Loughborough as a place to eat . "

  • "Nice atmosphere and the menu is good for special occasions. But - the pork belly gave us a funny stomach for a day after eating there!"
    dined on 08/05/2014
  • "A great place to spend an evening, the atmosphere is always warm, and when just two thirds full has a buzz without encroaching on the conversation on your own table. Service is prompt, could be slightly more attentive during the meal, but otherwise great. You may pay £1-£2 per course more than other places, but the restaurant and food quality easily make up for that!"

  • "It wasn't easy finding a restaurant for a special occasion on a Monday night in a strange town, but Browns Lane was a real find. We can't praise the chef too highly, and all the staff were friendly and attentive. Thank you."

  • "Went for Sunday lunch with family. Able to book online was easy. Easy friendly barstaff downstairs. Unexpected appetizer was bought to the table which was a nice touch. Orders taken, nice starter of garlic mushrooms. Roasts ordered by all of us. Our son had pork and beef with the beef rare. When this arrived there was so much fat on the beef he could eat very little of it, he didn't complain as he didn't want to make a fuss so left it. My husband was still eating and the waitresses tried twice to clear our table not realising he was still eating, I thought this was rude. The food was ok, nothing special, apart from the setting and the food being brought to the table no better quality than a Toby cavery and more expensive!"

  • "Service & food all excellent! Would definitely go back!"

  • "It is (in my opinion) the nicest place in Loughborough Town centre for dinner, hands down. I took a group of 5 for a friends birthday, all the food was delicious, the service stood out, everyone had a lovely time and we all left smiling. We ordered mains, desserts and Prosecco; the bill came to about £28 each (including a tip), which is good value for for money considering portion sizes and quality of food (the 3 stars I have given on here for value doesn't look great, but it does mean 'good' - apparently)."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Called in for lunch during a visit to the town, the menu was varied and the food was lovely . A reasonable choice of wine and friendly service. Would definitely go again."

  • "We had an enjoyable Sunday lunch at Browns Lane. The service was very good and friendly. The food and the ambience did not quite elevate the place above the ordinary."

  • "Booking is necessary. Popular place for parties and celebrations. Many people. Bills are not always accurate and should be checked. Food is very good. Portions are big enough. Price is reasonable."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "Went as a group of 6, we all found that although pricey the food was good however we felt that the service let the restaurant down. On several occasions we had to ask the staff to take our orders. We sat down at 7 and starters arrived at 8.30. In saying that would still go back...for special occasions."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "The decor was lovely, tables were the right distance apart so that you can have a private conversation without having other diners listening in. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely fantastic, well presented and very tasty and a really good selection to choose from"

  • "The service me and my family received was friendly and professional. The food was great and the ambience was lovely. It's not the cheapest place in town, but it's well worth the money for special occasions."

  • "My girlfriend and I ate at browns lane for the first time on Saturday and the service and food was both at a very high standard! I'll certainly be returning!"

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my prix fixe lunch. The portions were modest, but that's much better than being overwhelmed by quantity - much better to have less and have good food."

  • "We had an apportionment at the solicitors in Loughboro' so had lunch after. It was an excellent meal great value and good service. The restaurant was quiet but good background music. We do not get the opportunity to lunch much but this has made us keen to try and make time for events like this."

  • "Decent food, good service ... just felt a little pricey."

  • "A group of 11 of us had our work Christmas meal at Browns. we've had some dissapointing meassl in the past years so decided to try Browns Lane, I wouls definately go again, it was fabulous! Many of us ordered steak (cooked to order) and Lamb, all the meals were brought out to us at the same time and all the meat was cooked to perfection, we were all really impressed as this is difficult to get right especially considering how busy they were on the night. The service was impeccable, attentive waiting staff, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was fantastic as well. All in all, very good value for money and really good food! We would all go again definately."

  • "Great food and service, a lovely and entertaining evening for a big group."
    dined on 03/12/2013
  • "There was a happy relaxed atmosphere. The choice of food on the menu was varied and, although not a vegeitarian myself ,there was a good choice for vegetarians. The portions were more than ample, well cooked and attractively presented.. Good choice of wines at reasonable prices, personally I enjoyed the 'house' wine. The service was generally OK but we did have a problem with the wrong starter being served to one of our party and wasn't served until the rest had finished eating theirs."

  • "As a family of 4 with an ex-guide dog we all enjoyed the superb meal at Browns Lane on a busy Friday evening. The pheasant starter and the venison mains were beautifully cooked and very well presented. It got rather noisy at the end of our meal with a big birthday party but we popped downstairs and enjoyed our coffees in a more tranquil environment. Service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended."

  • "Exceptional food, great atmosphere, fantastic night. Thank you"
    dined on 23/11/2013
  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, well cooked and full of flavour. The wine was reasonably priced, and the service was friendly and efficient. The only thing that stopped it being first rate is the fact that the dining room has almost no soft furnishings so it's noisy, and we had the misfortune to sit next to a loud party. Just our bad luck, on another night I'm sure everything would have been great."

  • "Glad we booked a table for our Sunday lunch as it was nearly full by the time we left. Friendly staff to attend to our preferences and good ambience. Good portion of chicken breast with mashed and roast potatoes. Carrots were not soggy- could do with more as there were literally four strips in each serving. Not particularly keen on the way they serve their vegetables (in a rather small dish). Good deserts- we chose the apple and blueberry crumble- served with vanilla custard. Right portion as we would not hvae been able to finish it otherwise. But custard was too watery. Nonetheless, will go back and try again!"

  • "Having visited Browns several times over the years all three of us were disappointed with aspects of our meals and, all three of us suffered upset tummies the day following our visit. Two of us choose the day's special -Pidgeon. On both plates the leg and game sausage were ok, if luke warm. The breasts were both overcooked and tough. The other main course was fish and chips. Batter very brown as if the oil needs changing, and whilst the fish was of a reasonable size, 6 medium sized hand cut chips and a small pot of peas do not justify the price. For pudding all three of us had the white chocolate cheese cake, which whilst it was substantial and tasted nice, we believe this may have been the cause of our problems the following day."

  • "On the Sunday that we went the restaurant seemed to be run by students from of house Friendly service but attention to detail lacking Food looked good - vegetables almost raw and cold We think it has all the elements to be a fabulous place to eat for families, friends and business But training and direction is required for the staff to make it so Is it that there is a lack of competition in the area as all others seemed to be Harvesters or similar?"
