A word from Brunswick House Cafe
A restaurant, café & cocktail bar, set in the crumbling grandeur of a Georgian town house, built for the Duke of Brunswick in 1758.

By day we serve a simple breakfast menu of hot and cold plates from the kitchen, accompanied by our excellent blend of Coleman Coffee, Jing teas and fresh juices. A more formal lunch service commences from noon until 3pm, with snacks available from the bar throughout. In the evenings as the light dims and candles are lit, we serve a seasonal and inventive dinner menu of the finest British produce, to accompany expertly-crafted cocktails and carefully selected wines. Private rooms are also available on application.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Not the most relaxing sort of place - very slightly off-hand bar service, cool customers, slight catwalk vibe - but the food is excellent. A pretty restaurant at night. Perhaps best in a small group rather than in a twosome."

  • "We arrived reasonably early in the dinner service on a weekday night. We were seated quickly. The waiter was friendly but not very attentive. Once a few more diners had arrived, we had to wait sometimes 5-10 minutes to ask for the bill, some more water or some additional bread. To start I had the squid and cucumbers which was delicious. the squid was cooked to perfection (i.e. not over done) and the vinegary sauce that the cucumbers were served in was delicious. For the main course I had the pork belly which was also very nice, if a little simple. It had a very nice crunch to it and was nicely seasoned. The meal overall was about £60 (2 courses, no wine) which seemed a little expensive for what it was."

  • "It is always a pleasure to eat at the Brunswick House Café. Menu selection is limited but the dishes that are produced are exceptional. It is a quirky place with a friendly and comfortable ambience and very pleasant staff."

  • "Airy and chic, this place doubles as a showroom for Lassco's stock in trade, salvage items from the nation's grand houses. The service is perfectly pitched, friendly and helpful, a great compliment to an interesting and well executed menu. Start your meal off with a Kamms and bitter lemon and by pudding you'll be in heaven. We spent about fifty quid a head, including cocktails, wine and service, for a blowout three courses. Thoroughly recommended, we'll be back!"

  • "We went for dinner here - have to say the actual bulding is lovely and has a great ambience (one of the best I have seen). However the food in terms of portions and quality was lacking for the overall cost of the meal. Pretty disappointed, especially with the desserts and the main fish course which was practically starter size. Would recommend this place for a drink in the bar as can enjoy the ambiance however."

  • "Amazing food in beautiful surroundings. Well worth a visit."

  • "The Tripadvisor reviews were not encouraging but i have to say that the food service and ambiance was very good. I would certainly go back."

  • "The food. Drinks and service are outstanding - and the decor it really really impressive and gives off a wonderful ambiance"
    dined on 18/07/2014
  • "The food is very nicely prepared and presented, but the side salad arrived at the table cruchy with a dusting of salt. The sauces on the various dishes were nice, but again too much salt. Diners can always add salt and do not need the chef to do this for them. One fish dish had an olive tapenade, which was nice, but combined with added salt, it left my lips plasmolysed. We had to keep requesting more water to deal with the level of salt."

  • "Food is splendid; creative and well-prepared. Beautifully presented. Service staff are always so pleasant, welcoming, and accommodating."

  • "A wonderful meal - the veggie options were terrific and really good wine and cocktail list. Service was friendly and attentive. The surroundings are so interesting - would be a great date venue. This place is worth a special trip to glamorous Vauxhall! I have booked again for my birthday."

  • "Title says it all, you have been warned. Horrible, oily, saggy, tasteless food (covered in water) combined with bad selection of undrinkable white wine. ONly go for decor, best to stick to the cafe at the front (same room, but no requirement to buy food)."
    dined on 27/06/2014
  • "Great please, excellent vibe, fun decor and very romantic without being stuffy. Felt quite like an East London joint. The service staff were friendly but seemed a bit rushed, quite erratic service (a flurry of action.... Then nothing!). This let the place down a bit, but overall still highly recommended!"

  • "Been going there since their first opening day as a 'cafe' and now is a proper foodie restaurant with good service, good food and good ambiance!! Well done team!! Chris"

  • "Great building, decor and atmosphere etc. Food tried a little too hard to be fancy, and ended up being ok as a consequence. Other than the Black Dog (which is amazing!) this is probably the only other place worth eating in Vauxhall"

  • "Really tasty, well presented food. Unusual menu. Great service - charming and efficient waiter. Lunch was thoroughly enjoyed by all three of us."

  • " Great birthday meal here at Brunswick Cafe. Incredibly large starter of kippers and poached egg was moist and delicious. Other starters of asparagus , a bit meagre but tasty but ham hock terrine meaty and good flavour. Mains of lamb and chick peas with aioli were wolfed down as were the hake and onglet. Yes there was enough room for pudding with the rhubarb parfait hitting the spot. All in all a great meal in surroundings that kept our 2year old mesmerised. Glad the price of the food isn't as outrageous as the lighting and fittings on sale!"

  • "Great decor and atmosphere, attentive and efficient staff. BUT - the menu is limited, very unimaginative and frankly serves up over-priced, cantina food. The lentil dish was sloppy and the rabbit dry and overcooked. The ham hock salad is something I could have knocked up in three minutes. These dishes had all been precooked and just slapped on a plate when ordered. It is the worst kind of cynical restaurant practice. Go there for a drink and the buzz; eat elsewhere."

  • "We booked a table for seven people for a special occassion dinner (a major birthday), and the staff took very good care of us. The food came up at a reasonable pace and was well prepared. The selection was great, and everything was very tasty. I have two critical comemnts. 1. The room was too hot to be really enjoyable. 2. The sauces were far too salty. Thankfully, the waitress kept bringing us pitchers of water, but I don't understand why things come to the table with so much salt already on them. Diners can easily add salt if they want more, but to start out so salty leaves no options for diners."

  • "We wanted to love this place., menu sounded great and place looked interesting. Unfortunately the service and the food were a let-down. Food inconsistent, a couple of dishes were tasty but the rest fell far short. Service unfriendly, grumpy and hurried - not necessary on a quiet Monday eve. Bar well stocked and interesting beers on tap. "

  • "I went there with my siblings and parents and had a great time. It can be a bit too loud on the weekends, but I'm considering organising a big girls dinner there. Quite a nice ambience and different feel to what you usually get in London. Feels very Brooklyn to me! Highly recommend and the drinks are yummy."

  • "On the reccomendations of friends, I took my partner for dinner here on Monday evening (19th May '14.) It was a very mixed experience, and really not one that I'd care to repeat. Some staff were friendly but our waiter was very slow to take our drinks order, when we asked for a few more minutes. We had to wait another 20 minutes before he returned. Several diners who arrived long after us had drinks and food before we had even had the chance to order our first drink. The food was good but the waiter's attitude really ruined the experience. He was moody and looked like he didn't want to be there. I'd recommend the Canton Arms in Stockwell, similar food at a better price and infinitely better service. "

  • "Brunswick House is great for a special occasion - amazing surroundings, good service, outstanding food, great cocktails and really good value for money. You're given 2 hour table slots, which was plenty of time for 5 people and 3 courses and it provided the perfect evening venue for a group dinner and guests from out of town."

  • "There is a really lovely atmosphere and environment in Brunswick house, it's great to have pre dinner drinks and the food was really excellent. I would highly recommend it. "

  • "You're not exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to restos around Vauxhall, so Brunswick House is a v welcome addition. The venue is fantastically atmospheric - a large hall filled with architectural salvage oddities. Playing 'guess how much that costs' is fun. The food's not cheap - expect to pay almost a tenner for a starter and fifteen for a main. It's generally solid and ambitious without being mad. Not quite good enough to justify a foodie's outing, but not bad. The drinks, however, are excellent: thoughtfully chosen wine list and top-flight cocktails. Service is slightly mixed. Generally they're good but on my last outing our waiter looked like he'd rather be elsewhere. Overall though I'm a fan - give it a go. Ideal for a date."

  • "Great atmosphere with beautiful eclectic decor. Yummy cocktails in the bar before heading to the restaurant where the food is delicious. Very relaxed but attentive service made the evening hugely enjoyable. I would highly recommend Brunswick House Cafe"

  • "A very disappointing dinner. A wonderful space and friendly front of house but the poorly thought through (and economical with the truth) menu and cack-handed cooking did not live up to it. Hazelnut croquant turned up unannounced and unnecessary in an appetiser. Ditto capers. A starter of potato gratin was wrong on so many levels. Wrong potatoes, wrong portion, wrong place in menu. Potato gratin is a side to a main. Boar chop was over cooked and the rubbery rind of failed cracking was inedible. Brunswick House's wacky concept and location is an enterprising and charming USP but is ultimately pointless if the kitchen doesn't deliver. Somewhat ironic that the one thing that needs to be salvaged at LASSCO is the restaurant!"

  • "I'd visited years ago when it was still taking off, and loved the antique shop vibe. Rather like a jumble sale yard! On this visit, I found it much more polished and lacking in some of that original charm. I'd only been able to secure a 7:15 table, as it was the only one left, so on arrival was dismayed to find the restaurant empty. It was still not completely full on our departure more than an hour later. The food was very disappointing. I ate a tasteless pork pate' with the look and consistency of tuna, and the duck main. The latter was perfectly fine, but not the wonderful food the reviews and hype had led me to expect. To cap things off, the waiter put in an odd amount into the card machine, nearly over-charging me by £19!"

  • "Brunswick Cafe was great for lunch. I took my Mum out for a delayed Mother's Day lunch and she really liked the quirky setting. The food was great - very simple and flavoursome. The best part about the lunch was the relaxed environment - service was attentive but chilled so we ended up sitting there for 2.5 hours which was lovely. I would thoroughly recommend!"

  • "The new design of this restaurant is excellent as I saw no bad tables. It is light and airy in summer. Drinks were outstanding - Maragarita Caliente truly lovely - with a big kick of chilli and booze! The food is a - cut above, somebody in the kitchen obviously cares and that is not the first time I've felt that way. The only let-down was service which was well meaning and friendly but very dis-jointed. A couple of items were forgotten or took too long to come. At one point staff were arguing on the floor about tables which seemed very unprofessional. However in the end we got everything we wanted and can't grumble too much. All in all it was a great lunch - with not one bad dish and some lovely wine. We left more than happy."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "I have visited 3 times and on each occasion myself and my friends have been super impressed. The dishes are imaginative without trying too hard and the balance of flavours & textures is impressive. This combined with a unique atmosphere and friendly staff have made it my favourite restaurant. Thanks!"

  • "Brunswick House has lost its Mojo slightly. It used to be a funky, odd (with the interesting architectural salvage decorations) good value eaterie with surprisingly good food. Unfortunately now it is noisy (opening up the bar area and pumping up the music makes conversation difficult), poor value (prices are up about 25%) and the food is a bit dull for the price. For £100 - including aperitifs and a bottle of wine, but a with a shared starter and a shared dessert, I wouldn't recommend it as I used to. Shame."

  • "This was our third visit in as many years. We like the ambience here, and the food is good if overpriced. But the service is as dreadful as ever. You get shown to your table, and then nothing happens for a very long time. No service, no menu, no wine list. The waiters rush past giving the impression that they've more important things to attend to. A party of four at the table next to ours gave up, packed up and left, telling the staff why. Eventually we got to order some wine, and after another long wait the wrong bottle was brought to our table. Once we'd got the right wine and ordered our food, things clicked into gear, the food was served in good time and tasted pretty good. But at £45 a head, we should have had better service."

  • "Brunswick house is a beautiful venue - we went as a group for lunch after a morning wandering around Tate Britain. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is lovely, and looking around Lasco after several Campari's and a fill of red wine is dangerous to the purse strings. Highly recommended for the experience and food."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "Been here before. Not so good this time round. They don't serve 'diet tonics', they Don't serve 'Tia Maria'. My starter of mussels was cold/tepid and had to be Sent back. Main ok and pudding fine. Overall could put a bit more oomph into Customer service. Doubt will go back a third time."

  • "A fantastic little island of sanity in the madness that Vauxhall is becoming.lovely interior & great food. It was very quiet at lunchtime on a Tuesday but that was perfect as far as we were concerned. The food was really good & the 2 course set lunch was just right. Look forward to next time."
    dined on 18/03/2014
  • "For a second time, this proved to be a good venue to meet an old friend for leisurely dinner and conversation. Music is not obtrusive, no yelling required. The food and wine is reliably good, if on the pricey side. Service was serviceable, if a little brusque. The venue is what makes it, shabby chic provided by the salvo place that shares the building."

  • "Meals are pricey & the menu is boring Range of alcoholic drinks is pathetic Staff don't know what they are doing 1st & last time at this place."
