A word from Butlers Wharf Chop House
With its stunning riverside location and views of London’s iconic Tower Bridge, Butlers Wharf Chop House restaurant just south of the river in Shad Thames provides a thoroughly British dining experience.

Head chef Gemma Hyjek's menu is a celebration of seasonal produce and classic British favourites: think Cornish mussels in Aspall Suffolk cider & leeks, roast red leg partridge with a parsnip puree and sticky toffee pudding topped with a dollop of Jersey clotted cream. Generous Sunday roasts with all the trimmings are popular, as is the famous steak and kidney pudding.

Head sommelier Ben Van de Meutter's wine list takes inspiration from the classic wine-growing regions of the world, alongside wines off the beaten track and an extensive selection of whisky, sherry and port.

For a relaxed and robust meal overlooking the Thames – including al fresco tables with breathtaking riverside views - look no further than Butlers Wharf Chop House restaurant.

I would have expected the waiting staff to know when we were ready to order, when we needed anything, not to forgot to bring us items that we had asked for and not to get our order wrong at the prices charged at this restaurant. Shame, because the views are wonderful but attention isn't paid to customer service.

The Chop House is neatly tucked away near Tower Bridge with a lovely open river frontage. Upon entering the restaurant we were warmly greeted and asked whether we wanted to sit inside or out; both were equally appealing. The wooden decor and seating suits the restaurant well. The menu was not over complicated but had a selection for all tastes. A large bowl of perfectly cooked scallops started my meal and then we enjoyed two beautifully tender two inch thick thick fillet steaks for our entrees. Our waiter was the perfect English waiter and was able to respond to banter in just the right way. Good staff are as important as the food served! We all agreed that the Butlers Wharf Chop House was well worth visiting and we shall return.

We had a meal for four adults at 7.30 on a Saturday evening and unfortunately spent a lot of our evening chasing up elements of our meal. We had to ask for water four times and only received it when our main meals arrived. Similarly our wine didn't make it to the table until our second course... A starter of game pie and piccalilly was served without the piccalilly and I'm certain my broccoli and artichoke salad should have been served with a dressing of some sort. A real shame that such a beautiful setting (over looking Tower Bridge) didn't live up to expectations, especially given the prices (two courses with champagne and a bottle of wine came to £360).

I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for everything it has to offer. Perfect location- definitely worth waiting for a table outside- great service from friendly knowledgable waiting staff, and the best Meal we've had in London to date! Prices are normal/ high-ish for a restaurant in the city but worth every penny. We'll be going again!

Outside table great views but too small for four people. Service was very poor and the beef was very fatty, difficult to cut. After complaining we got better service and a complimentary drink, but overall not good and poor value for money. Will not be going back.

Booked on-line, we were staying by Tower Bridge and wanted somewhere by the river, a great choice! We opted for the set evening meal with a glass of bubbly with 3 choices for each course from sea, field and garden - a very well put together menu, great value and service at £30 per head. Would recommend and will go back!

We were disappointed. The somelier recommended a wine she knows very little about and it was a fizzy wine red wine. However they made up for it by not charging us. My husband ordered grouse- extremely disappointing. Very small bird and hardly any meat on it. He was still very hungry afterwards. We felt a bit cheated really. The setting was breathtaking.

We were recommended to go to the chop house whilst visiting London. We booked a table for our anniversary, I booked the table online and asked if we could be sat by the window so we had a good view. When we arrived they sat us at a window table which was great and wished us a happy anniversary. The choice on the menu was great, we were only going to have two courses but couldn't resist having three!! I had chicken livers to start, lemon sole for mains and Eton mess for dessert, couldn't fault any of it, was very delicious. My husband had chilled tomato soup, steak then an assortment of ice cream, he was very impressed too. A lovely touch was that on my husbands plate with the ice cream they had written happy anniversary in chocolate.

Great location view from outside seating was great. Thought this was a little over prised as you could not get a bottle of wine for less than £30 . The food was nice but not the best Iv had my veg was a little too hard and the sauce didn't have much flavour, although the roast potatoes was the best I'd tasted..overal I would go back to this resteraunt but only for the location.

Had a fabulous roast on Sunday, although the lamb says it feeds two people,in fact there is enough for 3-4 people as you get a whole shoulder Of lamb!!!! Not really a complaint, but I would have shared withe the mrs & mother-in law rather than having the pork. Mind you I suppose I had the best of both worlds eh?! Apart from that every thing was fantastic and the lovely waitress ensured we had a great doggie bag to take home.

My husband and I visited the restaurant for the first and last time ever. When we sat down we observed that ours was the only table that was not offered bread. i asked the waiter for a bottle of sparkling water, a few minutes later he came back with 2 glasses of tap water. When my husbands knife was dropped on the floor it took a while for them to bring a new one back. I could go on but the more i think of the time we wasted in this restaurant and had to pay for the poor service it just upsets me.

This is a great place to dine for both atmosphere and setting, being on Butler's Wharf and adjacent to Tower Bridge. It's a lively place in the evening and a pleasant break just off the tourist trail in the daytime. The service is attentive without being intrusive and the food of the highest standard. If it has any faults it is that it can be quite noisy when full in the evenings, and the outside seating is a little close to passers by, but most customers don't seem to mind that.

I organised a farewell dinner for my best friend here. Booked though opentable mentioning this and requested us to be seated next to a window. We were seated in the outdoor area, where the view was just magnificient. It was a chilly day but we did not feel cold, with the heaters right behind us. All my friends were impressed with the excellent view, it was certainly the farewell dinner I was hoping to organise for my best friend. Service was a bit slow but it was a busy Friday night, and to be frank, if not for the fact that we were in a hurry (for our reservation at a bar), we wouldn't have minded the speed of the service at all. We were enjoying the view and having a great time. Food was nice, the carrot cake dessert was very cute!

I took a client here for dinner recently. We arrived at 7:30pm and were sat outside. Service was generally attentive and efficient. However, after saying we wanted a lighter wine we were advised by the sommelier to order a burgundy at the lower end. It was dreadful, and not at all worth even what we paid for it. We had to send it back (after trying to drink a glass of it). I expected to pay for it, but they did take it off the bill. The second wine was not much better, but more expensive. The food was avearge at best. A bad sign is rock solid butter coming with the bread. Our desserts had clearly been taken straight out of the fridge. A very average restuarant for tourists. If you want a Tower Bridge view just go to All Bar One!

Chop House is positioned on the Thames with a spectacular view of Tower Bridge & the City, which looks stunning in the evening. Using an Evening Standard menu offer, we dined on 3 course meal with 3 options per course, plus a glass of champagne for £30 per person. As starters we enjoyed the squid [a little too salty] and the chicken liver with bacon option [very tasty]; for mains Pork chop which was large and beautifully cooked as well as a Fish main [very succulent and plentiful], with a selection of ice cream desert + a pancakes desert [both ok]. A wonderful evening topped off with a surprise birthday desert for one of our party. Service was excellent despite the venue being very busy and the experience is highly recommended.

I ate at the Chop House at the weekend and having looked forward to dining there was bitterly disappointed. My starter was sent back, my main course was predominantly a plate of pork fat and the poached egg with it was stone cold. Whilst the presentation of the dessert (carrot cake) was very quirky, it delivered nothing on taste. The trip was for a special birthday (so I didnt complain too much so as not to upset my mother-in-law) I really struggled to part with the money to pay for the bill....I wont be going back.

I dined here with 5 friends on Friday evening. It was very busy. The service we received was not as good as on previous occasions. We waited a very long time just for our drinks to arrive, and the food took even longer. If we hadn't been enjoying catching up with each other, the wait would have been intolerable. When our food did finally arrive, it was lukewarm and I could tell it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. It was a shame as the food was well-cooked, and you could see that the staff were trying, but they were not coping well with the demands of a busy Friday evening. I would recommend coming here at a non-peak time during the week instead.

We arrived early and received excellent attention from the wait staff whilst the restaurant was not full. However, as the evening progressed and the restaurant began to fill up, it was very difficult to get the attention of the wait staff. We also felt very crowded with tables right on top of each other. The food is only so-so. Aged beef seems to be the house specialty, so we ordered the roast rib of beef, which was good, but way too much fat and the chateaubriand was quite chewy, which was disappointing as fillet should be tender and melt in the mouth. Desserts were tasteless and quite awful. I think this restaurant relies heavily on it's stunning location and hopes that the customer's attention isn't too focused on the food.

The view of Tower bridge as the sun set and the lights came up was fabulous! The ambience was only spoilt by a bird's dropping on the next table which stayed there while the diners ate. Not nice. Otherwise, a lovely starter was followed by a moderate main and a disappointing dessert. The hand cut chips were excellent and the gin and tonic was sublime! Staff were helpful and attentive, whilst being more than pleasant.

A delightful evening meal for a family group. However, I would make the following observations,: a smallish 11 year old found the seating rather low (and was too embaressed for us to ask for this to be rectified). For a vegetarian there was only one option for main course and finally 2 scallops for a starter did seem meagre. But I would return.

Having visited this restaurant on many occasions over the past ten years, both my wife and I were disappointed with the lack of choice from the menu and the quality of the food served. I had concerns as to what we might expect after going online and reading statements relating to the generous size of portions served. Fortunately for me the house speciality of steak and kidney pudding was on the menu, which was my choice. However it was much bigger than I remember and although it was jammed packed with meat it lacked taste. The bar area was catering for a private party so perhaps this had some bearing on our experience. But I'm affraid the evening was a disappointment and we will not be returning.
