A word from Butlers Wharf Chop House
With its stunning riverside location and views of London’s iconic Tower Bridge, Butlers Wharf Chop House restaurant just south of the river in Shad Thames provides a thoroughly British dining experience.

Head chef Andrew Holmes' menu is a celebration of seasonal produce and classic British favourites: think Cornish mussels in Aspall Suffolk cider & leeks, roast red leg partridge with a parsnip puree and sticky toffee pudding topped with a dollop of Jersey clotted cream. Generous Sunday roasts with all the trimmings are popular, as is the famous steak and kidney pudding.

Head sommelier Ben Van de Meutter's wine list takes inspiration from the classic wine-growing regions of the world, alongside wines off the beaten track and an extensive selection of whisky, sherry and port.

For a relaxed and robust meal overlooking the Thames – including al fresco tables with breathtaking riverside views - look no further than Butlers Wharf Chop House restaurant.

  • "2nd time there loved it. Staff were friendly food as alway was great !! "
    dined on 18/04/2014
  • "I have visited this restaurant many times over the years for both business and pleasure, more recently I took a group of friends visiting us for the weekend, we enjoyed a superb lunch, great service, very tasty food and the location never fails to impress. I highly recommend this restaurant for both business or pleasure, lunch or dinner. If the weather permits the outdoor seating is very enjoyable and quite intimate providing superb views across the river & Tower Bridge. Service is always good, very attentive and professional. The food is generally of high quality providing a wide range of choice for all."

  • "We were greeted warmly and, although we only arrived at the time booked for the table, we were still offered the option of remaining in the bar for a drink before being shown to our table - I've never before experienced that flexibility at any restaurant. The waiter service was attentive and friendly, without being intrusive. We all agreed that the menu had a good variety (but did not fall into that awful trap of being too extensive) and the dishes selected not only looked lovely, but were all much enjoyed by everyone. We had met together as a family to celebrate my eldest son's 40th birthday, and visiting the Butler's Wharf Chop House is certainly an experience we would all be keen to repeat!"

  • "Excellent service with a view to die for showing the grandeur of London but menu is a bit limited. Starters are fantastic especially chicken liver pate but everything priced @ gourmet levels which is somewhat overstating the invention of the cuisine"

  • "I met up with friends and we all agreed that the service, food and ambiance was really good, Keep up the good work"

  • "I took my friend out for a birthday dinner yesterday and we had a lovely time! I emailed the reservation's manager (Marta) beforehand who kindly agreed to organise a birthday dessert for my friend, which was lovely. The 2 course set menu was fabulous, we had the terrine and mozzarella salad, as well as steak for the main, which was juicy and perfectly cooked. Our waiter was very attentive and we had a lovely evening overall - very pleased and will be returning!"

  • "I made a group booking for the Chop House this week for 7 people. We were all really impressed with the service and the menu choices. It's also in a great location, and we would defintiely come back!"

  • "Booked the 2 courses for £21.50 offer for a group of 8 colleagues. They loved the location & all enjoyed the food, was a great end to an intense day for the group & a suitable place to unwind in style."

  • "Great position, staff ok. Food very ordinary certainly not worth the money even with the deal!!"
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "Food was amazing, friendly and professional staff, great selection of wine list and amzing atmosphere for dining indoor or outdoor too. They do take care of the small details and for the special request even when you just book online . I'm definitely going back again."

  • "The atmosphere here is good. Warm, buzzy & chatty. The food is mixed. My starter of beetroot cured salmon & horseradish cream was completely bland & really lacking a hit of acidity. But the pork belly & fish & chips were apparently tasty. My rump steak ok. Service was very friendly but at times slow. Considering the prices, the overall experience should be more consistent & just that little bit better. I don't think I will go back when there are so many great places to go instead!"
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "We had a lovely birthday meal overlooking Tower Bridge. The food was good and the waiters very attentive - even piping happy birthday in chocolate with a candle in an ice cream and singing!!"
    dined on 25/03/2014
  • "Overall an average experience. Waiter tried to sell me a £50 bottle of wine even though I states twice that I wanted the house white. He seemed to smirk when I went for the cheaper one. Service wasn't very quick and often they weren't responsive when I got their attention. Pork belly was lovely but too small a portion - cut it into tiny pieces to eat at the same rate as my dinner guest. When desserts came out they were given to the table next to us instead of us... Luckily the other diners realised they weren't the correct ones and gave them to us but the waitress did not apologise and getting the table wrong is not what you'd expect from an expensive restaurant like this."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "How and/or why would a restaurant serve fish and chips and not fillet the fish before frying it? It's either lazy or pretentious, but whichever way, it does not make a nice meal. To charge 21.50 for two courses, it really has to pick it's game up"
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "Great food and a great setting. Staff were great and couldn't fault the evening. Would recommend and will return."

  • "A great restaurant which we love to take friends to. Proper British cuisine, good quantities, very good service. Amazing view!"

  • "It was my first business meal I had to book working for my new team, who are from all over Europe and although work 2 or 3 days a week in the uk, do not normally get into "London" I hunted for ages, checking reviews and double checking to make sure that I chose the right place for them... The Chop House did not dissapoint! Great location, right beside Tower Bridge, great food, I highly recommend the Crab terrine starter, and the steaks were cooked to perfection. We had a few mishaps, but they were quickly rectified and apologised for, all in all the feedback to me was that I had chosen a great restaurant. So thanks to the chop house, I have set myself and the other Pa's a really high benchmark now."

  • "I went for dinner in a group of 5 people. The service was very friendly and the food was good. I would recommend this restaurant. Lovely location on the river."

  • "Attention to detail and charm personifies the team that run this restaurant. From the charming and knowledgeable bar staff to the charming waiter who served us, it was a lovely evening. Recent visits had lacked the original flavour of personal service but thankfully it has returned with gusto. Thank you"

  • "It has been 12 years since my last visit and I was now returning with two children! Firstly and most importantly was the excellent service, there was nothing that the waiting team could not do for us, accommodating us with an 8 year olds roast dinner which was not a child menu option, chocolate ice cream again provided especially. Great quality food, of course an amazing view which is even better 12 years on. Still in my opinion one of the best places to enjoy good British food with a stunning view of some of the best architecture in the world."

  • "Went yesterday evening for my friend b-day. We choose the set menu, every single dish was a disaster.smoked salmon, terrine, steak, whole sole, fish &chips literally bread was the only thing we've enjoyed!!!all of us 4 we work in hospitality and enjoying dining out very often. In fact the previous day we went to Maze which was an outstanding experience I will highly recommend that restaurant on the contrary this chop house was a tragedy such a shame to have a beautiful restaurant with amazing views and on the other side an awful food and service. We will definitely not come back."

  • "Staff were so warm and welcoming and went out of their way to make sure you were happy."

  • "Have been here several times and last couple of vists have been a little dissapointing. The food is definitely not as good now but the price has remained the same. Will be a long time before I go back and have taken if off the list of palces I recommend to friends. At a lower cost then I would rate it better."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Went for Sunday lunch with good friends. We had been to Chop House several times before but not for a long time. Our friends came on our recommendation. Started off really well but the roast beef was very nearly inedible, and I would have expected a lot better. Wine list is also on the expensive side - prices starting at around £30."
    dined on 02/03/2014
  • "Went with a group of girl friends for dinner on a Saturday evening. Great pre-dinner cocktails at the bar, with an excellent virgin cocktail creation (we put the barman on the spot) for my pregnant friend. Service good in general but not excellent - got a few basic things wrong with the order which needn't have happened. But excellent food and great choice on the menu, which is what you pay for. Would go back again - definitely if there's a toptable offer going :-)"
    dined on 01/03/2014
  • "The first bad meal I've experienced here. Waiting staff greeted us in a receiving line but were sadly disinterested after that except to challenge our menu choices with aggressive upselling, then leave for a while to chat amongst themselves. Starters were fine - not special but OK. We had fried fish in soggy thick undercooked batter, and sinewy cheap undercooked steak. I then understood the waiter's offer to provide a steak knife (1970's serrated knives for sawing through badly cooked cheap meat) but if you need the knife you don't want the meat We were offered replacement food (as if!) and then just the inedible items were taken off the bill. It's such a good location that one day I might try again but it will be a very long time."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Have been to the Chop House several times over the years and compared now to the competition it is a pretty average restaurant with the location still the highlight"
    dined on 26/02/2014
  • "The Chop House staff did everything I expected as competently as I expected and therefore I report no surprises. The food was as good as I expected and I report no disappointment. The desserts were not as I envisaged but still yummy. So the visit was unsurprising, not disappointing, and tasty. I can't wait to have another totally non epic lunch there."
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "The staff were very friendly and catered to all our needs, the food was delicious and the views from the restaurant were breath taking. 10/10"
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "great location excellent food, on the expensive side."
    dined on 25/02/2014
  • "A great location just next to Tower Bridge: where you can enjoy the idea of being alfresco without the cold British weather. The food at this restaurant is superb. The standard has not declined, which is something that often happens at several well known restaurants in London. The staff are very attentive, but not in your face as it can be at some places. The Chop House is one those venues in London that everyone should try, even if it’s just once. If you can mix business with pleasure then this is the place to do it. But remember great food and good service come at a price."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "Enjoyed the three course set Sunday lunch. Good choice of starters, mains and desserts. A little disappointed with the lamb which was on the slightly dry tough side. Sticky toffee pudding was excellent."
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "Having eaten in other Chop Houses our expectations were high only to be dashed with the main meal being over salted and the sweet unedible . To be fair we complained and the bill was adjusted. Overall dissapointed."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "Went on saturday night. Had the Evening Standard offer which was great value. As usual good informal atmosphere and very good food"

  • "A very good family dinner with some good value menus making sure everyone had what they wanted at a good price."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "Had a group lunch on the Evening Standard £20/£25 offer. Everything was just perfect; from the welcome, to the food and friendly service. This is an excellent deal at a great restaurant, go and you won't be disappointed."
