  • "Food was very good and was excellent value for money. Service was poor. We were not greeted very promptly on arrival. We waited for ages before anyone served us once seated. Ordered a side dish which didn't arrive and had to ask for arrived when we had finished main course and wrong side dish was brought. Too late as dinner eaten and was sent back. still added to bill but was removed when pointed out. Staff were very helpful and pleasant when they did serve you. Sorry guys could do better."

  • "This is my second visit to Cafe Des Amis and I would thoroughly recommend. The staff are welcoming and professional, the food came quickly and was lovely. Nicely presented and to a high standard. Despite the restaurant being VERY busy, on one of the hottest days of the year and with the woman at the next table complaining about everything, our meal was flawless and the staff impeccable."

  • "Booked table online for an early Saturday evening on basis of an offer (50% off), poor service experience seemed to be shared with other customers: excessive waiting time between course, staff in a manic /desparate mood, complaining of being understaffed, curt almost off-hand communications. Food was good so the problem was definitely front of house. Perhaps Café des Amis is putting too many on-line offers out and not staffing for the demand?"

  • "Food was mediocre. Ambience extremely noisy. Paper napkins got burnt in a couple of tables around."

  • "The food was good, but not exceptional. Our starter came 3 minutes after we ordered it, bit too quickly in my opinion. Plates were picked up right when my friend took her final bite, and then less than 10 minutes later the main course was there already. Thought that was a bit bad customer service, as it felt like they wnated us to be away as quick as possible."

  • "A fantastic way to spend a lazy lunch in Covent Garden. Food was amazing, staff were brilliant. They were happy for us to take our time and enjoy the experience. Definitely my favourite restaurant and will be recommending to everyone I meet.... Thank you"

  • "Years since I'd last been, Cafe des Amis has had a makeover but the menu and buzz are still just as evident. We booked at 15 minutes' notice through the Open Table app and got a 50% deal on two a la carte courses and a free bottle of house wine. We paid a very modest premium to have steak and paid the difference to choose a better wine - which was very good value. Service was polite and pleasant though staff were clearly rushed off their feet. The only downside was that our table was next to the service area so a frantic 'ding ding ding' emanated most of the evening and waiting staff shot past every minute or so. But the food was good, our steaks cooked exactly as requested. We'll definitely return."

  • "We were treated well, could do with better air conditioning, served very quickly food was very tasty. Wine was nice and chilled."

  • "We booked a table for four on OpenTable for Café des Amis and were attracted by the 50% off deal with a free bottle of wine. However, we found the service to be awful - our waitress really struggled to speak any English as she was Polish and the service was pretty much non-existent. My friend's French Onion Soup starter was served cold and it took ages to be re-heated. The Entrecote steak that I ordered (for which I had to pay extra) was really tough and I could hardly eat it! Trying to get the bill was just a nightmare as the place was so busy. The whole place lacked ambience and the staff seemed very jaded. The free bottle of wine was awful and was just plonked on the table."

  • "The Hanover Place location is a narrow pedestrian alley between Floral St and Long Acre on the NE side of Covent Garden. It is excellently placed for the Opera House, and Covent Garden generally, but check the map before setting off or you may find it hard to find. An advantage is that Café des Amis has to try a bit harder. On my visit, mid-week 1230 lunch time, that meant 50% off A La Carte starters and mains (not desserts) and a free bottle of house red or white wine. There was a £2 or £3 supplement for some meat courses. Full price would be expensive, but the offer made the meal good value. I would recommend sitting inside on the ground floor as outside tables looked a bit cramped. Fair choice of Mediterranean French/Italian food."

  • "We went for the 50% off deal plus a free bottle of house wine. Although the wine wasn’t amazing, the value for money was second to none. That plus the food came out in record timing, so it’s perfect for a quick pre-post theatre eat. It’s tucked away off the main road, so it’s lovely and quiet, but not dull, good for conversation. Would recommend."

  • "Food was not bad, service was friendly and fast, but without the free wine and half price offer it would have been too expensive for ambience and food quality...."

  • "The restaurant was full on a Wednesday night and everyone around us had their booking with the OpenTable offer. I had fried calamari for starter that was really salty, my partner's confit duck was OK. I had the steak for main and asked it to be medium, but it came out very well done. The fries on the sides were really salty again. My partner had the tuna steak and it was a small portion. We had to wait a lot for the mains, because our order didn't go through and they forgot about it. The house red that they have in the offer was really bad, like drinking vinegar, so we sent it back and asked for the house white which was better."

  • "We indulged in the 50% off plus a bottle of wine , this was good value , would not have wanted to pay full price!"

  • "We dined pre theatre on the fantastic deal of 50% off starter and mains plus a free bottle of house wine otherwise I would have said it was very expensive. The restaurant staff and ambiance is great - it was already really busy at 6pm with couples and groups. Staff are really attentive and the food and house wine was excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend or to go again."

  • "Cafe des Amis in Covent Garden is very good and surprisingly big inside. It serves very good quality French food. I had the rump of lamb as my main course and it was extremly good. With the top table 50% of the a la carte it was very good value for money but the only thing they omitted to mention is that the lamb and beef they charge a surchage of £3.00. The dessert was good but there was not an extensive choice and some items like Tiramsiu you think is strange to have in a French restaurant. overall experience was good. My friends and i had a good round table away from the main hustle and bustle."

  • "REVIEW OF OPENTABLE! Despite confirmations and reminders from OpenTable, this restaurant was closed when we arrived on Sun 13th. The chef who just happened to be outside, said the closure was known/planned. Clearly OpenTable does not update its reservation system. Looking at other posts, this is not an uncommon situation with OpenTable. We were not amused!"

  • "I was extremely disappointed as when we arrived at the restaurant it was CLOSED! OpenTable allowed me to book a table for the Sunday. When we arrived at Cafe des Amis, there was no sign indicating the restaurant was closed and when we called them the answerphone message did not indicate they were closed. I do hope you are going to give me some compensation as we were put to inconvenience and had to find another restaurant. Please change your information on OpenTable for this restaurant. Also, on the Cafe des Amis website at the end it states that the restaurant is open on Sundays. I look forward to hearing from you."

  • "We have been to Cafe des amis on quite a few occations. Each time it was a plesant experience. Unfortunately on our last visit we were shown to our table , given our menus then our waiter came over and thats when it all went wrong. Everybody can have a off day but if you work in a customer service industry its not acceptable We had a good evening that day and all we can remember was this waiter, basicly ,could not be botherd to do his job properly and with profetionalisem."

  • "We visited after watching Bodyguard, so was starving by the time we arrived. Although we had a reservation, we had to wait a while before being seated. No problem with that, it happens.. The issue we had was the smell of urine as we walked to the downstairs bar.. A little upset that no Apple Tart on the menu, but overall was a pleasant experience and I would go back again"

  • "The food was good but the restaurant experience overall was badly let down by the service we received. We waited quite a while for the menu to be given to us and then waited for the order to be taken for each course. We decided not to wait for dessert and coffee as it had taken so long for each course. We normally like a leisurely lunch and generall spend an average of 3 hours over it but this was really slow."

  • "Very busy, probably due to the special offer. Food was great, service variable."

  • "Lovely secluded restaurant in busy Covent Garden, quality meals and exceptional value."
    dined on 11/07/2014
  • "I had booked for 2 for a pre- theatre meal but a friend of my partner's joined us and the front of house had no issue with seating 3 of us. We were seated immediately and the service was very good - prompt an efficient (and the restaurant was fairly busy at the time). The food was very good too with all of us enjoying different options from the menu. The 50% deal makes it excellent value and we chose the red fre wine option which was a nice Montepulciano. I had read all the negative comments before going and was slightly concerned but our experience was nothing like that. Not sure that I would pay full menu price but the deal makes it fantastic value."

  • "I have eaten at Cafe Des Amis 3 times so far in 2014. All food has been excellent on every occasion and the last two times I've had a 50% off voucher (also with free bottle of house wine) which has made the meal exceptionally good value for money."
    dined on 10/07/2014
  • "Was outstanding value on the 50% off a-la-carte +free bottle of wine deal. Food nicely presented and tasty with reasonable size portions. Upstairs dining area a little too crowded for comfortable personal space. Very attentive service. However, do try to avoid using the gents... odour and staining worthy of a second-order French facility!"

  • "We have dined at Cafe des Amis several times and return for reliably good food and good service. This time, we were let down. Some of the food was bland and some was cold. Our waiter put a warm bottle of white wine in an ice bucket, but neglected to put any ice in it (only water) so when we checked it 20 mins later it was of course still warm. The service was so appalling, it took us 30 minutes to attract anyone's attention. They were far too busy talking to each other than serving customers; and it wasn't even particularly busy that night. However, we had a decent apology at the end and a discount, so hopefully we might give it one more try... but, we certainly won't be rushing back."

  • "I've eaten at the Cafe Des Amis several times over the past 4 or 5 years and, to be honest, the standard has been a bit hit and miss. This month, with its 50% deal and free house wine, however, it's most definitely in my good books again. The food was well presented and served promptly although we didn't feel rushed at all. Our dessert - Soupe au Chocolat with Black Pepper Ice Cream - was quite delicious; chocaholics should definitely give this a try. The bill: three courses for two of us, plus a bottle of house white, including service was just over £52. Our only gripe was that there were too many tables crammed in, so we were too close to our neighbours for a private conversation. We were pleased with our choice that evening though."

  • "The Café des Amis is an extremely popular restaurant and staff can be extremely challenged at times to provide the service that they want to. The menu is both varied and good ... the chocolate soup is "to die for". I always recommend the restaurant to friends if they are looking to dine in the Covent Garden area."

  • "Was here with a couple of friends on a Monday evening, great value at 50% off, good food, the wine was pretty decent as well as it was part of the promotion and free. Efficient friendly staff, no complaints."

  • "overall i would go there again as the restaurant is in a lovely location and hte value of 50% off and a bottle of wine is fantastic. I thought the portions would be small but i had the mussels for main ad the portion was huge. only downside was that the servie is slow. however i would happily go again"

  • "There were service issues : extended wait to be seated despite pre-booking , needing to prompt to order , missing plates and having to prompt for the bill. We all found the food to be tasty, well cooked and well presented with the main plates standing out. We were given an unprompted uncharged dessert when the ordered item had run out. The restaurant was lively without being overly busy."
