Diner Reviews
  • "Fantastic authentic Goan and Indian food, locally sourced ingredients, excellent service from friendly staff. The menu includes favourites such as lamb, chicken, beef and fish but also has duck and ostrich as well as a broad range of vegetarian options. I have been coming to Cafe Spice for several years now and the food just gets better every time. We have also dined at Mr Tdiwalas Kitchen at Heathrow Terminal 5 Hiltin and Assado near Waterloo, both run by Cyrus Todiwala and the food is just as good. Would definitely recommend Cafe Spice to anyone who likes well prepared, nicely spiced food."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely evening, excellent food and friendly service. We shared a platter to start with and everything on the plate was delicious and with its own unique taste. Our mains were lovely too and you can really taste the different spices unlike some Indian food when it looks and tastes the same!"

  • "Excellent food especially the Dosa starter , in a chilled atmosphere, excellent waiting staff."

  • "A very enjoyable meal, friendly, but professional service with great atmosphere. We were a party of 5 and everyone stated how good the meal was. I will definitely return with friends and family."

  • "I last went to Cafe Spice Namaste shortly after it opened almost 20 years' ago. As it was just opposite the hotel I was staying in last week, I thought I would revisit, but was fully prepared for it to be a disappointment, as so many restaurants in London tend to lose their spark after their initial brilliance. I needn't have worried. Maybe it's because Cyrus Todiwala continues to be a dominant presence - coming out half way through the sitting to greet some regulars. His wife Pervin runs the front of house, and it was great to be greeted so warmly, even though I was a woman dining on my own."
    dined on 17/07/2014
  • "Brilliant food. Brilliant service. Brilliant ambience. Brilliant flexibility of Front of House to our changing party size. Brilliant business jacket worn by Pervin Todiwala whilst taking our orders in a firm, no-nonsense, but always reassuringly friendly manner. Brilliant patience shown by young dashing waiter at our increasingly tiresome demands. Brilliant night out with a lovely bunch of people. Brilliant."

  • "We were made to feel very welcome. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Food was amazing. Tandoori starter recommended! Would defiantly go there again."

  • "First time at the Cafe Namaste, and booked it at the last minute as I was on business in the area, but the reviews looked good so gave it a whirl... Food was exceptional, and quite unlike majority of indian restuarants; the starter was amazing, and the mains that followed confirmed that this is a 'must visit' restaurant for anyone who likes good food. Ambience is a little different than your usual restaurant too - spacious and airy, with somewat quirk decor, but I liked it. The service was impeccable too; never intrusive, always polite and helpful, and we didn't have to wait for anything. Am certainly going back again."

  • "really recommend this restaurant, it is a bit out of the way and off the beaten track but went for the first time and was really impressed by the quality of the food. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Only gripe was the poppadom and chutneys feel expensive, otherwise very good indeed."
    dined on 14/07/2014
  • "After watching Master chief I decided to book a table for my husband and I and our two teenagers. The staff were helpful answering any questions we had. The food was delicious. We all had something different. Our only regret was that we were too full to have a dessert! We will defiantly go back again."

  • "The food was very tasty and the service was great. Highly recommend if you want indian food that is a bit different from the usual takeaway indian food."
    dined on 12/07/2014
  • "I would describe the meal as an excellent Indian meal rather than "going for a curry" The entire dinning experience was so different when compared to standard "curry houses" I had Ostrich and my wife had Lamb, both cuts of meat were like steaks rather than small pieces of meat. The two meals were served on plates, rather than the customary serving dishes. I chose beetroot samosas for a starter - they were excellent, but I felt that I had made a poor choice when compared to other starters on other tables, (including my wife's) The service was excellent - more expensive than a high street "Indian" but by far, superior quality food/cooking/presentation I would not have any hesitation in recommending this restaurant."

  • "Top marks all round from the moment we entered the restaurant to the moment we left, it was truly amazing, the staff were all excellent and kind and Mr and Mrs Todiwala were so lovely and accomodating. The blend of spices in the food was done to perfection and and was the most tastiest Indian cusine I have ever tasted, hands down! We will be back!"

  • "Very good choice, good service and the food is excellent quality. I've seen some reviews where people have complained about the decor (it has an Indian colour scheme) and said that the food was plain - I'm not sure what these people were looking for??!! Well worth it and you will get change out of £100 as long as you don't go overboard on the drinks :-)"
    dined on 11/07/2014
  • "We are so used to the run of the mill indian cuisine in the UK that is is a delight when we are made aware of how good it really can be when it is treated with care and respect. The flavours are familiar as you would expect but better every time and sometimes surprising too, there are many things on the menu that you will not have heard of or tasted before. Well worth a visit and revisiting as the combination of informality and quality is not at all intimidating and it actually would be good value for money outside of London let alone. Try the salty lemonade if your a non drinker, you will me making it at home!"

  • "fantastic food, the waiters were lovely with the kids, and the birthday candle was very dramatic! Will come again."
    dined on 09/07/2014
  • "Such a lovely little place and the food was fantastic. I've never had a nicer chicken tikka. Honestly this is one of the best Indian restaurants in London, if not the best."

  • "A lovely evening. The food was superb and the service excellent."

  • "Lovely food and fantastic service. We had our two year old son with us. They were very attentive not just to us but with him also. Some restaurants we go to can make you feel very unwelcome if you have a small child with you."
    dined on 04/07/2014
  • "A very good choice of dishes on the menu, we found it difficult to decide but when we did, we were not disappointed. An excellent meal."

  • "Parents were really looking forward to eating here, however, their high expectations were totally trashed to a mediocre experience. No compliant about the service although when the food arrived it was not hot."
    dined on 02/07/2014
  • "I think my expectations were too high thinking this might be the staggeringly good as this man has been on TV so many times. I have local Indian restaurants out of town that can come close at half the price"
    dined on 01/07/2014
  • "At short notice we booked lunch after seeing this restaurant on celebrity masterchef. It certainly lived up to our expectations. The decor is quite rustic, the service is excellent and food is served promptly if you are short on time like we were.We thought it a little pricey(esp the mains)but well worth a visit. The kulfis are a must(delicious and made on the premises) and try the chutneys as they are really good. We'll most certainly be back again."

  • "Dined here last Thursday evening 19/6. Due to mostly very positive reviews I had expected more. The quality of the food was good but there was something missing. It was not the servicemindedness of the staff and there willingness to please. May be the ambience and intimacy? I had just expected more."
    dined on 19/06/2014
  • "This is far from a High Street curry. Cyrus is a genius and an inspiration and he, his wife and staff (some of whom have been working here with smiles on their faces for many years) create a warm atmosphere. There's a sense that the people who take the trouble to divert from the beaten track to Prescot Street know what they're doing."
    dined on 17/06/2014
  • "We had friends visiting and decided to take them to Cafe Spice Namaste and, as ever, we weren't disappointed. The food is excellent - very interesting and different dishes with amazing flavours and spicing. The service is very good too - will go again."
    dined on 16/06/2014
  • "We had come down from newcastle for the cricket. Was really looking forward to this dinner and did not disappoint. There were Indian people dining, a good sign and the service and food from start to finish was excellent. I would thoroughly recommend it. Having been to indian, I recommend the Dosa and also the nan breads. I had the special pork which was meltingly delicious and just how it had been described on the menu. My husband had the halibut which was not overpowered by the spices. I would go again."
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "I live in Durham and took my friend to Cafe Spice Namaste as a special birthday treat. The food and service were both absolutely superb, but the "icing on the cake" was to meet Cyrus. What a delightful chap, he was so charming! When I explained it was my friends birthday, he happily had his photograph taken with her and kindly sent us complimentary desserts - which were delicious :) This Indian food "par excellence" and we'll definitely return"
    dined on 13/06/2014
  • "What a find! Came here by accident when looking for somewhere nearby and loved it. The interior decor and location might make you wonder if you have chosen a good place, but it is well worth it. We will return"
    dined on 11/06/2014
  • "I have been to Cafe Spice Namaste several times now and I love the different dishes. Lots of flavors and I like that the owner sources their meat responsibly. Highly recommend this restaurant. It might take you a little while to go through menu as lots of unusual dishes."
    dined on 07/06/2014
  • "Unattentive staff, lacked in atmosphere, food was ok but nothing special "
    dined on 07/06/2014
  • "We booked Cafe Spice Namaste for my husband's birthday celebration ... and it did not disappoint! The food was inventive and delicious - the portions were just the right size ... A bonus was that Cyrus and his lovely wife Pervin came out to say hallo!! What a charming couple ... what a great restaurant ... Indian food at it's best!"
    dined on 05/06/2014
  • "Excellent restaurant with plenty of unusual specials i.e not "regular" curries. Have been coming for years and never disappointed. "
    dined on 05/06/2014
  • "We took ages to order because the choices all sounded so delicious. None of us were disappointed with our choices although the dhosas were quite filling for a starter. The waiting staff were on the whole efficient and attentive, but not overly so. Food arrived promptly. We ate at a leisurely pace and didn't feel hurried at all. The food itself was absolutely delicious, full of flavour with combinations that we'd never tried before and using amazing sustainably sourced produce.- Makes so much difference in the flavour. I'd highly recommend this restaurant and we'll definitely be going back. The only small downside was the acoustics of the room meant that it was quite difficult to hear each other, maybe it needs some more soft furnishings?"

  • "This is kind of my mantra for a good restaurant as I have been doing all the cooking in my life for over 50 years and don't want to pay lots of money for stuff I can do much cheaper. We've been to Cafe Spice several times and all parameters are just perfect. We nearly didn't get in this last time as OpenTable said 2 weeks in advance that there were no vacancies for EIGHT weeks. Then 2 days before I was offered a range of times...........if at first you don't succeed etc. The restaurant was very busy for a Tuesday night! Forget all preconceptions about what an Indian restaurant will serve as this is just a great restaurant with an imaginative menu not found almost anywhere else............ I'm so glad it exists."
    dined on 27/05/2014
  • "The food was alright but if I look at the quantity and quality - prices do not do justify. "
    dined on 23/05/2014
  • "The food was very good but sitting in that cavernous dining room with everyone else's conversations echoing round you isn't so pleasant. It would greatly improve if they just had some background music playing!! The service also just felt off - at the beginning of the meal we were asked for our drink orders about 5 time in less than 10 minutes when we clearly weren't ready. Then all the waitresses' disappeared and it was hard to get anyone to come to our table. Overall the food is good enough for me to want to eat it again but I would only ever do so if I get it to take away."
    dined on 22/05/2014
  • "We had the set menu, which gave us a chance to sample several dishes. Everything was beautifully spiced and delicious."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner - the food was excellent (we are both vegetarians), the service was perfect. It certainly goes on our list of London favourite!"
    dined on 13/05/2014
  • "what excellent food. It's always a pleasure to eat in a restaurant where the staff are so attentive and seem to have a genuine pride and passion for the food they serve. Anyone who loves indian food but is looking for something a little more different to a curry on Brick Lane, should try Cafe Spice Namaste"
