Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Cantina, sitting outside enjoying the river views. The food was good and we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine. The starters were definitely the highlight of the meal - my husband and I opted for the chilled tomato soup and my friend had the sea bass, both of which were delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was outstanding. We were allowed to relax and catch up without being rushed. A lovely afternoon. We will definitely be coming back."

  • "We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch at Cantina del Ponte with friends, it isn't cheap but it's perfect for a special occasion. We sat outside on a lovely sunny day and had a perfect view of Tower Bridge and the Thames. The service was excellent. Would recommend it for a special lunch in great surroundings."

  • "I surprised a friend for their birthday as a treat. We had a great night out & the food was very good. As an added bonus a lady sung some opera & the atmosphere in the restaurant was amazing."

  • "Date and I ate at Cantina del Ponte on a Friday night. The wait staff were excellent and we were treated to the wonderful surprise of live opera singing. The food was lovely, but neither of our mains (we ordered from the set menu) had carbs of any kind, which was a bit odd. A basket of bread fixed this problem. Great for dates and a wonderful view of the Thames as we walked back to London Bridge."

  • "We wanted to have a lunch by the River last Thursday and Open Table reccomended this lovely authentic Italian on Shad Thames! The food, service and choice of wines was great value and it had a great vibe wether you were eating inside or out. We opted for the set menu which was great but the a la carte looked even better. Go and try Cantina del Ponte soon for lunch or dinner."

  • "We ate at Cantina del Ponte on a lovely summers evening. We were presented with a complimentary glass of prosecco before being seated outside by the river. Food, service and location were all lovely."

  • "We enjoyed an early evening dinner at Cantina del Ponte, sitting outside on the riverside looking at Tower Bridge. The food was really good and was served with a glass of Prosecco, which was very quickly replaced when I accidentally knocked over my glass. The choices on the Open Table menu were understandably limited but all very appealing. The service was excellent, friendly yet efficient. I would certainly recommend this restaurant."

  • "A really lovely restaurant. The service and food was lovely with an excellent view."

  • "It was lovely to enjoy a very tasty business lunch at Cantina. The customer service is second to none, the waiters/waitresses are all so friendly and accommodating (and rather good-looking I might add!) We went for the special offer of two courses for 12.95. I couldn't resist the offer of a Prosecco on arrival. To accompany this I had tomato soup for starters which was lovely. They serve it cold in the summer but I chose to have it hot. The salmon for my main meal went down a treat. Well seasoned and cooked to perfection with a melee of vegetables in a lovely sauce. All in all a fab lunch!"

  • "Having read some of the more effusive reviews I booked this restaurant and the table d'hote special offer. It was too cold to dine outside and the restaurant was busy and noisy- made more so by the opera singer who appeared at regular intervals and warbled through various well known arias & danced with willing guests. The food was uninspiring and disappointing my grilled chicken, parmesan and spinach was just that - very dry served with no sauce at all. The tiramisu was reasonable but lacked body. The redeeming feature was a very good Montepulciano to drown my disappointment (and help the chicken down). We won't be back. I'd walk the extra hundred metres and go to The Blue Print Cafe in the Design Museum - great views & far better food."

  • "This is the 2nd time I've been to Cantina del Ponte and it didn't disappoint. The outdoor seating is highly recommended to get great views of Tower Bridge and the river. The spinach tart and mushroom risotto were divine. They have got the Tiramisu spot on."

  • "The food is very good however the service is a little slow. While it is nice to have a leisurely dinner, we had to chase the waiter down several times for orders, bill etc. Otherwise a very pleasant experience"

  • "Location - this restaurant is in pole position overlooking the Thames with great views of Tower Bridge. We had booked a table with the hope of being able to dine outside, alas the British weather let us down. The interior had a spacious relaxed easy feel about it , even if it was rather dark. We had the set price menu, which offered a good choice to suit all tastes. Plenty of staff on hand so no problems with service. I know we're all suppose to embrace London's cosmopolitan nature and it's an Italian restaurant with authentic Italian waiters one or two of them had a poor grasp of English which is fine in Italy but just didn't seem right in London. Overall we had a good evening with good company and the venue was perfect for this purpose."

  • "We have dined here several times in the past few months and have always enjoyed it immensely! We tend to take visitors here because of the view - an outside table is a must! On every occasion, our visitors have also been impressed. On this last occasion in particular, the food and service were outstanding!"

  • "We've been before and we are more than likely to return... I love the very friendly and curteous guys who received and served us, the good food, the river views. Adequate time is given to order, without being harassed or rushed to decide. The goat's cheese wrapped in bresaola is a "must have"."

  • "Took my two teenagers out for a celebratory lunch post exams. The service was impeccable, the waiting staff were friendly but efficient. We stuck to the set menu, a decision we did not regret as all of the courses were flavoursome with some interesting flavours. Despite the rain we sat outside under cover and we enjoyed the activities on the river."

  • "This is the second time I have come here. It has an excellent view of the river and the food is consistently made to perfection. The waiter that served us was young and evidently nervous. Food came quite slowly even though it was not that busy. Would go back."

  • "Very friendly service from the start and good food and ambience."

  • "Food was tasty and service was great - very friendly staff. We dined outside with a view of the Tower Bridge and it was just a great dining atmosphere. We loved the pasta dishes although portion is a bit on the small side. Will definitey go back again to Cantina del Ponte."

  • "Wonderful outside table overlooking tower bridge. Very accommodating of my young son and an additional guest not mentioned on my original booking. Lovely area to walk around after lunch."

  • "We went to this restaurant to celebrate our friend's birthday. Apart from the nice river setting there is very little positive to say- it was very noisy, the service was poor and the food mediocre and certainly over-priced for what it was. With one fish dish we sent it back as the beans were cold and it was merely put in the microwave, and there was no follow-up to check it was ok or apology."

  • "Very good food, nice atmosphere, and terrific service. Our waiter Claudio was very welcoming, recommended a great wine, and helped with the menu."

  • "A great restaurant in a great location away from the hubbub of the West End. Food was good and service exceptional - our server Claudio had the balance of friendliness and professionalism just right. It is not a cheap restaurant but considering the location a fair price. Will definitely return and recommend to friends."

  • "We went to Canntina on a lovely warm Friday night and had a lovely evening. We were treated by a very attentive and friendly maître d' and had a great waiter. Our experience was very relaxed and flexible. However, we were disappointed that the operatic entertainment amounted to only, at most, 10 minutes every hour (sadly because the soprano was great when she was performing) and our main courses disappointed - asparagus and Parma risotto should be more than risotto with three small heads of asparagus and a similar amount of toasted Parma on top - the risotto had no particular asparagus flavour at all - thank heavens for great Parmesan. And it was expensive. The setting & service make me want to return but the food does not support the cost."

  • "Cantina used to be fabulous. A great spot and excellent food. It still looks lovely but it's really gone downhill. The food was ok. Not bad but nothing special and the saltimbocca was outright poor. The service was what really prompted me to write this, however, because it was awful. Lots of perfectly pleasant but ineffectual staff standing around ignoring the diners in the far from full even on a lovely sunny restaurant. The maitre d' had clearly perfected the art of staring into the distance and ignoring his duties. Our waiter was sweet but we asked for our wine FOUR times before it finally arrived just as we started our main courses and 20 minutes after we ordered it. A real shame. It should be wonderful and it really isn't."
    dined on 11/06/2014
  • "Location is pretty nice: if you have the chance to dine outside the restaurant, you are only 10 meters far from River Thames, and the sight is perfect ! I ate carpaccio with truffles, special dish of the day, and one tagliata: everything was perfect and well served. Ideal to join with your woman , very recommended !"

  • "We went to cantina del ponte for a family birthday and the outside table and friendly service made it a special occasion. Food was good but not outstanding, although it was reasonably priced, the charcuterie starter was easily enough for 3. There was a good choice of well priced Italian wine. Overall a lovely evening out."
    dined on 09/06/2014
  • "Great ambience and food in a really special location overlooking tower bridge. A bit pricey but only what you would expect in such a fab location. Food all made in house and our children were well catered for."

  • "Great resturant right on the river that offers peaceful dining with stunning views. Good food and excellent service. Has maintained its high standards over many years. Highly recommend. "

  • "There is currently a very good set lunch menu available at Cantina Del Ponte. This is great for group bookings, such as what we had, and while the set menu has a very limited choice, the food is excellent and service matches. Would recommend lunch outside with great views of Tower bridge."
