Diner Reviews
  • "Lovely meal; great staff; good ambience. Highly recomended"

  • "Excellent local restaurant that i would love at the bottom of my road. We had the lunch set menu with smoked ricotta and air dried tuna salad and delicious pork fillet, there was room for the lovely english cheese which miracle of miracles was at room temperature and delicious. Very interesting wine list including unusual ones from Gascony. I have already booked a return trip, fantastic."

  • "We first dined at Carter's of Moseley on our wedding anniversary on May 8th and the food and service was outstanding so we returned on Friday just for a pay day treat. The ambience of Carters is very relaxed but you are always made to feel exceptionally welcome. The staff are professional and are knowledgable about the food and wine but it is in such a relaxed and informal manner it is not pompous or too formal. The menu was exquisite on Friday and my husband and I particularly loved the snacks of chicken liver parfait with cereal and the cods roe. The evening went on with an elegant fish course with gooseberries, a fine lamb and a truly delicious strawberry desert. We have dined in Simpsons and Purnell's, Carter's is the new favourite."

  • "Visited the restaurant for a special meal with friends on Thursday 3rd July and had a fantastic evening. Food and service was outstanding...really appreciated the staff taking the time to talk to us about each plate and they timed the delivery of each course perfectly. Will definitely be recommending Carters to friends and family and will be back again myself soon I'm sure."

  • "Just a fairly quick line to say what a great evening my wife & I had at Carters. It was a Birthday/Anniversary celebration so we opted for somewhere a bit special. The staff couldn't have been more attentive & the knowledge about each course was admirable. The timing between the courses was spot on, never left waiting but never rushed. Overall a great night & we will be back."

  • "Our evening spent in Carters was superb. We were greeted with a warm friendly smile and the waiting staff and manager did everything to make our evening special. The food was sublime and the wines chosen to compliment each course were perfect. We were happy to pay the bill as the whole experience was fabulous."

  • ".Had not visited the restaurant before so came with an open mind, found the decor clean and interesting with a small bag of bread on the table. the flour was locally sourced from Sarehole Mill . We both started with mackerel covered with cucumber in a gooseberry sauce. very tasty .Main for myself a sea trout, in a mustard dressing. you had one portion of veg which was asparagus. i chose to forgo this and had new potatoes instead, consisting of two small new potatoes. It was cooked to perfection. cheese was an extra which we were glad to pay extra for. three English cheeses and 5 biscuits. my friend had a lamb faggot which he thoroughly enjoyed and veg were the same."

  • "Went for Sunday supper in June 2014. Wonderful friendly and knowledgeable service, gorgeously presented food, each of the 5 courses was delicious and beautifully presented and my wheat allergy was very well accommodated. Free parking, lovely looking restaurant, can't wait to go again. "

  • "Excellent food and wine. Great service and excellent value given the quality of the meal."

  • "We had lunch here during the week and had a really lovely meal. The service was wonderful - friendly and attentive and the food was outstanding, a testimony to the careful choice of ingredients and the chef's sympathetic cooking style. A lovely relaxed atmosphere. Well worth making a detour for."

  • "Lovely atmosphere. Very good food and friendly staff. Excellent price for the quality of food. The starter of deviled hearts was delicious!"

  • "Enjoyed a lovely Sunday Lunch Menu here with a friend for her birthday meal. The house bread was beautiful as was the butter that came with it. The entire menu was delicious - the purple carrots were my favourite...not to mention the sublime almond rhubarb crumble! They even brought out a complimentary couple of chocolates (home made, spice-infused) for us to enjoy to mark the special occasion. The service was good, although I found some servers to go the extra mile and others less so. On the whole, though, they were all friendly and it was a lovely little place with great ambience and no sense of being rushed at all. Service was a bit patchy at times with clumsiness and, from one of the servers, a tone short of polite."

  • "Overall a great meal. A few comments which we hope you find constructive. 1. As the menu is fixed there should perhaps be one or two options for diners who don't like a particular dish. I did get a call asking if there was anything we didn't like but that seems a bit hit and miss to us. 2. It would have been nice to have the bread served with the starters rather than almost as a separate course. 3. A little more information on the wine list would have been useful, particularly on country of origin and grape variety. Otherwise a really enjoyable meal with great food and service"

  • "We booked a table at carters for a special birthday treat. From the moment we walked into the restaurant the service was outstanding, the environment was friendly and relaxed. I'm a massive foodie and have eaten at some of the top restaurants in the world - the food at carters is spectacular, definitely Michelin star standard! The staff were attentive but not overbearing, incredibly knowledgable about the menu and the wine. Could not recommend it enough and will definitely be going back again soon! "

  • "Our first visit to Carters and we will definitely be going again. The service was brilliant and the intervals between courses paced just right. Favourites were the asparagus and polenta, and the mango and goats' curd dessert."
    dined on 22/05/2014
  • "We had dinner which was a taster menu, for fine dinning I thought this was very good value. The food was some of the best I've tasted and the service had the perfect balance between being attentive while relaxed which created the perfect atmosphere. A lovely evening, looking forward to going again, we would highly recommend. "

  • "We'd been looking forward to this meal all week. We were not disappointed. A warm welcome, followed by top notch service through out what more could a birthday boy ask for? Food. The food was absolutely superb and offered great value for money. We will be back, hopefully to try out the Sunday lunch again next time."
    dined on 10/05/2014
  • "A quite unbelievable meal. Intense flavours matched and balanced, combining seasonality with locality served with charm and knowledge. There was, as always, very attentive service but it never appears as overbearing or intrusive. Who could believe polenta could reach such heights?"

  • "On this our first visit we enjoyed a midweek 3 course lunch. All three courses were superbly cooked and the presentation was of a very high order. The main courses were especially delightful. We sampled both the lamb which was beautifully tender and the cod which was delicious. Eating the sticky toffee pudding from the Golden Syrup tin was a challenge but worth pursuing. The home made bread was to die for. We certainly will be returning to enjoy another excellent value for money meal in the near future."

  • "Having previously been here for lunch we came for an evening meal. Lunch had been superb with terrific service. Dinner was just as superb. Great food, great service, great ambience. Highly recommended. We ended up being ready for our meal an hour earlier than booked and they were able to accommodate a very last minute change."

  • "How this resturant is not Michelin stared is inconceivable. The standard of food is absolutely on par with local resturants Purnells and Turners, the calibre of style and flavour is of the high standard compatible to Andrew Fairlies resturant in glen eagles. The selection of wines with the taster menu were utterly suburb. The lastly the service and the knowledge of the staff was impeccable. If you demand the best in cuisine you need to experience carters, as this is a resturant that is of a 2* Michelin standard. "
    dined on 01/05/2014
  • "The staff were polite and friendly and presented the taster menu in a knowledgeable way. Highlights of the evening for us were the lamb and the pudding. I asked for a dessert wine at the end of the evening, but instead, at the recommendation of a member of staff had a glass of Reisling which was possibly the nicest white wine I've ever tasted. Hope to go here again and would definitely recommend."

  • "I bought my, now fiancée, out to Carters to celebrate our engagement. Holly and the front of house team where outstanding and the little touches with the chocolates at the end just made our night. The food was outstanding and the accompanying wines for the flyte could not have complemented the dishes better. How this place doesn't have a star yet is a travesty!! "

  • "Great night spent here for our wedding anniversary. Wonderful service and ambience."

  • "Fantastic restaurant - I booked specifically for lunch, however, am very keen to go back for their tasting evening menu. Lunch was incredibly reasonable - 3 courses for £20 plus an extra £5 for a carafe of wine. The service was impeccable, even down to delivering their homemade chocolates with a Happy Birthday message on the plate. Food was outstanding, well balanced and delicious. The restaurant was comfortable and had a really friendly environment, all in all a wonderful lunch."

  • "best restaurant in Birmingham only issue with meal didnt particularly enjoy the mackerel and the rhubarb taste could have been stronger "

  • "Think Carters must be my favourite restaurant now. Eaten here lots of times and every time the food and service have been second to none. Had the 3 course set lunch with wine option again - amazing value at £25 inc wine. The main course cod dish (in something like seaweed butter) was one of the tastiest dishes I've ever had anywhere and I include the likes of Simpsons, Adams, Turners etc in that! Not sure why Carters doesn't have a Michelin star but if without it the value and quality stays this good why does it need one!?"
    dined on 18/04/2014
  • "Every time i have been to this restaurant it has not disappointed! Always welcoming and front of house staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Food menu was excellent. A very good place for business meetings as well as dinner for two!"

  • "From initial contact and booking through to arrival, dining and then leaving staff service was outstanding. The explanation of each course was was a useful touch. The food was devine and a little bit unusual. Would love to visit again for a special occasion."

  • "Superb value for money with quirky, fun and delicious touches. Fresh bread in a warm paper bag, individual portions of chocolate in a cocoa tin. Relaxed, well judged service and great great food!"

  • "We usually book a table in the big City Centre fine dining restaurants, this time we chose Carters of Moseley for our wedding anniversary lunch. The restaurant does not compromise on comfort, they have plenty of room around each table allowing for personal space. Holly the front of house, is a very warm and welcoming and made us feel like as if we had been using this restaurant for years, nothing was too much trouble even a very restricted diet of low carbohydrate and gluten free. The food was outstanding, local produce and excellent cooking techniques, we couldn't fault any of the courses we had. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable on all the foods served and took the time to answer our questions. This really is a hidden gem."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "We had Saturday lunch with a 3 course menus that was well balanced, attractively presented and full of real taste, using great ingredients. A chocolate plate was drawn up for the happy celebrating couple who found the whole thing simply delicious. A first visit but we will go again, even though Carters is a little off the usual sites, because it was a great eating experience supported by staff that cared by thanking time to talk to customers and listen to what they said. First rate and up there with the best that Brum can offer at high end eating."

  • "Carter's have really raised their game.Clever yet delicious food in a friendly setting with the best front of house make this an exceptional place. The lack of formality is the way of the future as recognised in Marcus Wareing's new restaurant.A great evening"

  • "Wonderful food, wonderful service. Would recommend to anyone!"
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "Very friendly and attentive staff, but find it very difficult to say anything positive about the food. I had shallots/garlic/truffle oil to start - sounded wonderful, but very ordinary. My first main was awful - cod marinated in seaweed, and unbearably salty. Replacement dish was belly of pork, which again was OK but very ordinary. My wife's main was the veggie dish with leeks and potatoes with cheese sauce and walnuts - again, very dull. Portion size for starters and mains was minute, but the pudding was huge - we both had the very large and very sweet sticky toffee pudding. Total bill for lunch, without tips, was about £70. Profoundly disappointed, and would certainly not go back."

  • "A gorgeous meal that was made so much more enjoyable by such wonderful, friendly staff. I strongly recommend this to foodies and anyone wanting to try the posh nosh experience for the first time. Truely a lovely experience.."

  • "I couldn't think of a nicer way to spend a Wednesday lunchtime than lunch at Carters. We were warmly welcomed and treated with generosity and kindness throughout the whole meal. We all had an apperitif which was well priced and using high standard drinks- fentimans tonic with Hendrick's gin. The 3 course set lunch with carafe of wine is amazing value. Beautiful homemade bread with crab pate. Starters were original and not too big. Main course of pork was divine. Other choices looked nice too. Rhubarb pudding was light, playful and yummy. Coffee- hot and high quality. We spent 2 1/2 hours there and nobody rushed us. We will be going back ASAP."
