This is fast becoming our local. The bar menu is not as classy as the restaurant menu (closed on Sunday and Monday) however still provides a hearty meal. The hotel always has a great atmosphere and frequented by the locals.

Channings, 15 South Learmonth Gds, Edinburgh I could not recommend this restaurant more highly- the setting is lovely and quiet, the service was friendly and very discreet, and the food absolutely delicious (we had steak). Plus, the -20% from toptable made it extremely good value. Fantastic!

Pleasant and just what was needed, because very near our hotel. But one main dish on the menu was off (we were only told this when we ordered it) and the wrong first courses were brought (with explanation that the chef had thought it was thr next day..). Pleasant but amateur.

Channings of Edinburgh offered a pleasant dining experience. The fish pie is worth a mention but the rest of the menu seemed more fitting to pub fare than hotel dining. Staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Had early tea at Channings, South Learmouth Gardens, Edinburgh on Saturday 8 October 2011. There were 4 of us and everyone had a great time. The food was excellent and so was the service. It is a lovely place to go for a meal and a drink and it is only 10 minutes walk from the West End. Would definitely recommend it.

Channings in Edinburgh is a pleasant restaurant located near Dean Bridge. The food is very nicely cooked but a bit bland in taste. Atmosphere is subdued due to being located in the basement. House wine is nothing special. Value for money if getting a special offer.

My husband and I enjoyed a 3 course meal with glass of wine for £19.50 per head in the Channings Hotel main restaurant in Edinburgh. The food was delicious although my husband complained his lamb steak was tough and chewy. Good portion sizes and very pleasant service. The restaurant was very quiet but that was a pleasant surprise in the middle of the Festival.

Our meal at Channings would have scored higher but for wrongly selecting the beetroot and goats cheese starter which looked and tasted unpleasant. Our waitress was efficient and friendly. There are lots of other places to go so we will probably not return but overall a pleasant and not too expensive experience.

Channings, Edinburgh Dated dining room in a basement - little natural light. Attracted by ease of parking at the door. Choice for deal was from 'all day menu' - not the dinner menu. Pity! Choice was limited - 2 courses (starter was as big as main course) with a glass of wine. Food tasty but nothing special.

Having eaten here on Thurs. evening, I had to go back for more ice cream on the Saturday! Restaurant was busier. Chicken liver parfait starter was super. Asparagus and lemon risotto was tasty enough - but the rice wasn't quite cooked while the poached egg was hard. But all that was forgotten when I got my double portion of sweet chilli ice cream.... ;-)

Ate there on a Thurs. evening - and the restaurant was empty. Goat cheese starter was good and big, salmon starter good but small. Steaks were OK - but lacked seasoning or sauce. For those dishes, food would get 6..... but I bumped them up to 7 because of dessert - the sweet chilli ice cream is just sensational! Don't try it if you don't like spicy food, but if you do.... well, ask them to switch the chocolate compote it comes with and give you an extra scoop of the ice cream!
