A word from Chez Bruce
Bruce Poole and Nigel Platts-Martin opened Chez Bruce in 1995. From the outset, it was their intention to serve the very best food and drink but within a relaxed, informal yet thoroughly professionally orchestrated environment.
At Chez Bruce we are not particularly into gadgets and tricks in the kitchen. Home-made charcuterie, slow cooked braises, offal, warm and cold salads, classical desserts and bread-making could be listed as specialities. We also take the cheese board very seriously indeed and it forms an integral part of the restaurant's day-to-day life.
The Directors of the restaurant are fanatical wine-lovers and are very proud of the restaurant's wine list which truly is one of the very best in the UK.

Diner Reviews
  • "Took the opportunity of a rare Monday off work to visit an old favourite venue of ours. After 1 or 2 recent experiences at Chez Bruce where the food had been very good but not outstanding, this was a welcome return to top form. Particular favourite dishes were the duck magret and the apple and blackberry dessert with cinnamon beignets. Waiter was excellent, and the sommelier recommended an very nice wine from Lazio which paired nicely and was reasonably priced. All in all a very nice way to start the week"

  • "Fantastic food, service and great value. Highly recommend."

  • "Great evening with friends - good food, good service, good ambience - however a distinct lack of vegetables - 10 chips between two is not good - also two carrots with the grouse - not so good. Still a great restaurant to visit."

  • "This time we took friends to show them in person how great Chez Bruce is. The welcome at the door is a little frosty and austere, but once in side the other staff were attentive, the wine list as amazing as ever, and the food superb!"

  • "Food was excellent, interesting flavours, good portions. Slightly disappointed with service, ambience, etc. Had a late lunch sitting and as the restaurant quietened down service slipped. Our waiter disappeared with the replacement(s) not on the ball - part of the experience of a restaurant like this is to not have to worry about chasing waiters for dessert order, water, teas not brought out at requested time, card machine, etc. Also could hear a very rowdy kitchen, while toilets were scruffy. So overall, excellent food (and wine) which is the main thing, but not the best Michelin-starred dining experience that I've had."

  • "We went to celebrate my partners 50th birthday with a lunch just for us before the big party. The food and service were superb, but when seated at the tables for two on the left hand side, you must be prepared to be banged continuously be the diners at the next table. While overall an excellent experience, the restaurant should consider removing one of the table for two on the left hand wall to allow ample room between the tables so that customers are not constantly being knocked into by the diners at the adjacent tables."

  • "Lovely food, great service, and a rather impressive wine list."

  • "A wonderful restaurant. Varied menu allowing plenty to choose from to suit all tastes, yet not too big a menu that you feel like you are reading a book! Each time I've been the food has been superb and the service excellent despite the fact that the restaurant has been packed full of customers. The food is first class, presented simply yet beautifully and not too cheffy! Brilliant from starter to pudding with lovely little extras in between like a taster biscuit, homemade breads and a palmier to finish off with - that's if you can manage it after a filling three course meal."

  • "Large choice of courses on the set menu, which was very good value. Definitely will be going back!"

  • "My 3rd visit and every time exceptional. Mother-in-law was very impressed how well they cater for her various dietary needs."

  • "I will praise this restaurant, but with the caveat that, at its prices, it SHOULD be excellent! It is expensive. Given that, the accessibility, service, décor, and above all, the food was excellent, and my party of four all agreed it was one of the dining experiences of the year. If there was a minor criticism, is was that the desserts did not quite match perfection of the starters and main courses. In my case, the ice cream was positively gluggy and Ben and Jerry's would have been better. Small criticism, but at the price, it has to be made."

  • "A truly outstanding dining experience, which lived up to my expectations and hopes. Every booking instruction was met and 4 hours went by in an flash of smiles, laughter, fine wine, fork swaps and incredible tastes."

  • "This is my fourth visit to Chez Bruce and it consistently lives up to its great reputation. The menu is interesting and varied enough to keep coming back. the portions are well sized, the wine list compelling, AND.... the cheese board is sensational. All of this for a set price of £47.50 for three course at one of London's finest restaurant is amazing. The service was a little shaky this time."

We found the staff welcoming, friendly & courteous and attentive. The menu choice and food were excellent, the wine list outstanding. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant as real treat.."

  • "Super meal as you would expect from Chez Bruce. Excellent and varied menu choice and lots of help from the waitress when asked for recommendations. Extensive wine list and again very god recommendations It was a very special family celebration and we all thorough enjoyed the excellent food, wine and ambience"

  • "Spent a Saturday evening here with friends, sat in the upstairs dining room so lovely ambience and not too noisy. Service was great, our waitress was attentive but not overly so. We had the Sommelier recommend some wines for our dishes, these were well matched and very reasonably priced. Food was very good quality, classic but perhaps lacked a little innovation.... for me the stand out touches were the Iced Tea Broth (with the Passionfruit Marshmellow) and the Basil Sorbet which had a definite wow factor and made the classic theme a little more interesting. Would recommend for good classic meal on a special occasion."

  • "Two of us had lunch here last weekend and it was utterly delicious - from the amuse bouche, the liver parfait, skate with delicious prawn toast and a cholcolate pudding. Would thoroughly recommend. We did not drink too much wine so was not too too expensive."

  • "We had lunch at Chez Bruce overlooking Wandsworth Common. The food was (as usual) excellent with a number of seasonal options. I had salmon tartare followed by the beef salad - both were excellent and light for a summer lunch - the beef was warm and full of flavour and the accompanying rosemary chips were outstanding. Very good value wine list and service is exemplary. The fixed price lunch offer, with the whole menu to choose from, is outstanding value."

  • "Visited here to celebrate my girlfriends birthday - I'd heard good things about Chez Bruce, and read a fair few good reivews, I was not disappointed! Great food, good wine and fantastic service. Will be heading back before too long."

  • "I came for lunch with a friend. Although it's often said you shouldn't choose fish on a Monday, as it won't be fresh, we both did and it was excellent. My friend had fishcakes followed by brill and scallops, while I had salmon tartare followed by cod. We both enjoyed all of it immensely. The flavours in all our dishes were so beautifully balanced. Refreshingly, everything we had was served on simple round, white ceramic dishes. The service was very good - our waitress was perhaps slightly over-attentive, but not so as to spoil our enjoyment of the meal. The somellier, meanwhile, was excellent. Considering the overall quality of the food and service, it really is very good value. I'll keep on coming back."

  • "We're lucky enough to have CB on our doorstep &we've eaten here a few times, we've never failed to enjoy ourselves. The last time we went was a Saturday night & it was packed full. Unfrotunately our waiter forgot our pre-meal cocktails, we mentioned it to the waiter who bought the wine to us and he sorted the problem immediately & gave us the cocktails for free, which was a nice touch. I can't fault the food as normal, it's some of the best you'll eat in London. The prices seem to have gone up a bit since we last went, but overall for a Michelin Starred restaurant it's reasonable. Wine a plenty to choose from by the glass, the half bottle, obviously the full bottle and more with wines from all over the world priced from reasonable to wow!"

  • "For 27 years we have been going to Chez Bruce to treat ourselves and for family special occasions. All at Chez Bruce unfailingly are pleasant, efficent without being over fussy, interested in making sure you enjoy yourselves. The food is exceptional, creative and always something new and different... Congratulations yet again on making our tenth wedding anniversary as special as all the other meals we have enjoyed with you! Best Wishes. Peter and Sue"

  • "We arrived quite late and staff were understanding - altough we did have to make a quick decision before the kitchen closed for mains at 3! Food was fantastic and service brilliant - particularly for our companion who was waiting for us - they brought her a newspaper to keep her entertained whilst she waited. They also overheard it was a birthday and put a candle in the cake without us requesting this. Would highly recommend for food and service - also for a restaurant of this quality in London the price was really rather reasonable."

  • "As you expect when you book the price tag is a little higher than the average meal out. We weren't drinking alcohol but still managed £50 per head on the set lunch menu with coffee (inc. £5 for the water!). However, it was worth every penny! Every dish had well thought out and often unexpected combinations of flavours beyond the main ingredients and I enjoyed the additional sampling of on site baking including freshly baked breads with your starter and shortbread with coffee. Staff were friendly and happy to answer queries on food. My only criticism was our seating as we were stuck behind a pillar at the back of the restaurant - although I appreciate they want to use all their space! A very enjoyable occasion."

  • "As always this restaurant has excellent service and very good food beautifully presented"

  • "Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable evening in celebration of a birthday. There were 2 vegetarians in the group and while we understood the options to be limited before we attended the vegetarian main was a little underwhelming. The gnocchi lacked texture and was very rich without being particularly flavoursome. The meat eaters amongst the group however were very happy with clean plates all round. To be fair to the excellent waiting staff who helped to make the evening an enjoyable one the vegetarian mains were both refunded from the total bill voluntarily. The restaurant is small and cosy leading to a great atmosphere but one small complaint id the lack of air conditioning which on a hot summers evening led to slight discomfort."

  • "Lovely dinner on a Saturday night. We went as a group of 6 with one of the group being coeliac and they had prepared the menu in advance and when they brought out the bread, had separate plates of gluten-free alternatives without us having to ask. The menu choices all looked amazing and we found it incredibly difficult to chose between them! The service was excellent and overall we had a very enjoyable experience. This was not my first time at Chez Bruce and it is always the best choice for a special night out in Wandsworth."

  • "Chez Bruce is one of our favourites. The menu is varied and always includes both safe bets and something for the more adventurous palate - all delicious. the wine list is amazing and the someliers always great at finding something you might not otherwise have chosen but which complements the food beautifully - no mean feat given how extensive said wine list is!"

  • "Top notch in all respects. Great food as always, extensive and reasonably priced wine list, great sommelier and general service."

  • "Love this restaurant, never fails to impress. The red mullet with sauce vierge, courgette flower fritter and tapenade was particularly wonderful."

  • "I last ate at CB 10 years ago. It is remarkably unchanged but little things are not quite as good as they were. Food delicious but not quite a French as it used to be - no pigs trotter anymore! Service not as good - younger staff who are not quite as quick or French. One waiter leaned right across me to remove my empty wine glass instead of approaching from my right! Complete no no in my book. Young waiter who brought the cheese forgot the name of one. One improvement was the sommelier was happy just to take my order for Muscadet without any remonstrations! Overall an enjoyable lunch but not quiet the grand experience it used to be."

  • "I wasn't blown away by the food but then I probably made a poor choice of main, the tongue and kidney ended up being too much of a feature for my liking. The starter was lovely - I had fish cakes and quite unusually for me I was tempted by a number of the dessert options. Overall the food was ok but not spectacular given the price and the setting felt a bit more cafe than restaurant."
