A word from Chez Bruce
Bruce Poole and Nigel Platts-Martin opened Chez Bruce in 1995. From the outset, it was their intention to serve the very best food and drink but within a relaxed, informal yet thoroughly professionally orchestrated environment.
At Chez Bruce we are not particularly into gadgets and tricks in the kitchen. Home-made charcuterie, slow cooked braises, offal, warm and cold salads, classical desserts and bread-making could be listed as specialities. We also take the cheese board very seriously indeed and it forms an integral part of the restaurant's day-to-day life.
The Directors of the restaurant are fanatical wine-lovers and are very proud of the restaurant's wine list which truly is one of the very best in the UK.

  • Birthday meal at Chez Bruce

The service was attentive and friendly. I appreciated being given the recipe for their Parmesan Biscuits - printed on the back of a copy of the evening's menu. A birthday extra, offered when I had expressed admiration of the biscuits. The food is creative, without being overwhelmed by flavours. In the first course, the salad of black figs with gorgonzola and walnuts worked well and I enjoyed the spiced fishcakes. The roast cod was tasty as a main course. Vegetarians have limited options at Chez Bruce; it's wise to check the menu in advance. Finishing with the quince and almond tart was a real treat.. We like dining early (7-00 booking). That was useful since, as the restaurant filled, it became less easy to hold a conversation.

Tucked away in Wandsworth, chez Bruce is an unpretentious little gem offering top-notch cuisine to the budget-wary foodie. The prix fixe menu embodied a quintessential marriage between modern French and Mediterranean cuisines, with ample choice for all. They accommodated my distaste for garlic well, and the staff were perfectly helpful, even if a tad obsequious. One very minor criticism of the service was that we had about five different servers over the course of our meal (including he whom I assumed to be the sommelier) -- this took away from the 'homely' ambience that the restaurant name implies. I would've also liked to some soothing ambience music, but that's a personal preference. Overall an excellent experience; I plan to return.

For me a good dining experience is above all about the quality and taste of the food. And in the case of Chez Bruce these are outstanding. Unlike some French Michelin-starred restaurants, Chez Bruce does not bother with the amuse-bouches or an extremely servile (and quasi-religious) service. Instead the service is good, attentive but not obsequious. And although I was originally told we would be seated upstairs (which is a little less enjoyable) they promised to try and seat us in the main dining room on the night, and they were as good as their word. We ate lamb, cod and a vegetarian course. All the dishes we tasted were really excellent. Our French guests were mightily impressed!

Over the years my family have eaten at Chez Bruce a number of times and have never been dissapointed. On this occasion it was our wedding anniversary and my wife and I wanted a quiet, romantic lunch. The table in the window alcove I asked for had been reserved, as requested, the welcome was as warm as ever and the service exemplary, lunch was superb, with all the subtlety and lightness that I associate with Chez Bruce. The wine list is extensive and excellent, the sommelier served the wine by the glass and a half bottle (we were driving) with as much charm as if we'd ordered a full bottle of his finest Bordeaux. The cheese board was groaning with a wide range of delicious British and French cheeses. Chez Bruce consistently delivers!

Pretty restaurant with great service and food. My Fresh Pasta with Duck Ragout and Chantrelle Mushtooms was extremely delicious as well as my Lamb done 2 ways with Braised Eggplant was also terrific. Add a cheese course to your tasting menu. It's a beautiful tray with over 20 selections. Service is very attentive and a wine list with a nice selection.

We booked a late table as we were travelling down from Norfolk that evening. At 9.30pm the restaurant had a lovely buzz and everyone was clearly enjoying themselves. The food was interesting and absolutely delicious. We all chose different items from the menu so that we could sample each other's food - everything was beautiful - in particular the scallops were 'melt in the mouth' tender. We all loved the Parmesan biscuits served with our pre-dinner drinks. Staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive, without being intrusive. We had a wonderful evening.

Have been several times, usually for dinner, and have always had a great meal. This was lunch on my husband's birthday and did not disappoint. Food prices for lunch and dinner are very good value for the quality, wines and drinks seem comparatively expensive, although in line with similar restaurants. Little piece of birthday cake complete with candle was a nice touch.

The range of choice for the lunch menu and the unwavering calibre of the cuisine make this one of the most consistently enjoyable restaurant experiences in London. Every time I have been to Chez Bruce in the last 3 or 4 years has been a pleasure and the imagination applied and care taken to every single plate served is exceedingly rare in my experience. This is a genuinely serious centre of culiary refinement where the quality of what is on offer is absolutely guaranteed.

We have been five times in the last year, trying it on different days and times. This was our largest group and the most challenging for the restaurant as we had a vegetarian, a lactose intolerant, and a wheat AND dairy intolerant guest out of the six people. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food was, as always, to a high standard; with the grouse and black faced lamb particularly good. I rated 4 stars for ambience only because part way through the meal the lights were turned so low that our most senior guest (89years old) found it hard to see in the gloom (and we noticed other guests give a frown or a quizzical look when it happened!). However the staff again responded well, turning them back up. Not cheap but the best.

Slightly disappointed with our experience on friday night 9.15pm table for two. We were overlooked and couldnt order our food. the couple next to us who arrived 9.30 had their starter before we ordered. I had to ask the waiter to order some food. No apology, Also the waiter that was constantly filling up water glasses was hovering over us too much not giving us space. Also the tables were too cramped together feeling you had to whisper to each other.

Chez Bruce's food quality only gets better, we had our wedding dinner there 8 years ago and we keep going back to celebrate our anniversary and birthdays. The menu is constantly changing and making the most of seasonal produce with exciting options. Everything is prepared to perfection and you can feel it the minute it is presented at the table, not to mention the first bite. Exquisite! The atmosphere is a bit loud, which could be too much when the restaurant is full...which is always! The service has always been impecable, however during our latest visits we have noted that some of the new waitress and waiters do not understand the character of the restaurant making it akward winking at you with suggestions or giving you thumbs up!

Once agin returned to Chez Bruce for a special meal and we weren't disappointed. Service excellent, food delicious and beautifully thought through menus. The pork starter was particularly wonderful. The meat is always of excellent quality. The bread as always was tasty and went very well with the cheese which seems to be particularly well kept at CB. We sat upstairs so were quite close to other guests. This could perhaps be tricky if poeple were noisy but on this occasion it was fine.

This time the waitress was a little less attentive than before and we had to call her over a few times, but overall the service was very good. And of course - the food was delicious, the menu has a lot of choice, always something a bit different with unusual flavours combined with traditional. Highly recommended.

Foodies know this is one of the UK's best restaurants, yet it does not seem to be on the global tourist radar, so it has a wonderful unspoiled ambience. The interior is quite discreet and unshowy, the service is the very best, and there is a wonderful relaxed feel to the place. The food is absolutely top notch - genuine world class fine dining. No hype, just the very best. One of the UK's top restaurant destinations for those in the know.

An evening this week at Chez Bruce surpassed expectation. It was really great - the atmosphere in the restaurant was very special. The food was, as you'd expect, out of this world but the service made a huge difference to the success of the evening. It was appropriately formal, as you would want and expect from such an excellent restaurant, but they were all very personable and caring too. We were attended to but not rushed or bothered - a fine line they got just right. The set menu offered excellent value and the courses were of perfect proportions. Great selection on the wine list too.
