A word from Chez Bruce
Bruce Poole and Nigel Platts-Martin opened Chez Bruce in 1995. From the outset, it was their intention to serve the very best food and drink but within a relaxed, informal yet thoroughly professionally orchestrated environment.
At Chez Bruce we are not particularly into gadgets and tricks in the kitchen. Home-made charcuterie, slow cooked braises, offal, warm and cold salads, classical desserts and bread-making could be listed as specialities. We also take the cheese board very seriously indeed and it forms an integral part of the restaurant's day-to-day life.
The Directors of the restaurant are fanatical wine-lovers and are very proud of the restaurant's wine list which truly is one of the very best in the UK.

I really like this restaurant on Wandsworth Common. Very friendly and attentive staff with attention to detail. The wine selection is great and the lunch menu value is superb! have never had a bad dish here and the presentation of the food combined with the delivery is second to none! I really rate this restaurant and keep recommending it to people.

We visited Chez Bruce on Sunday at 6.30pm. The service was as you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant as was the food. 3 courses for £50 is pretty good value and there was lots of choice available. Would definitely go again for a special occassion.

  • A bit of a show

At Chez Bruce, the food and service are a bit of a show. The waiters are handsome and dapper, the patrons reserved, and the locale facing the common tranquil. The wine arrives right away, and the breads. Three varieties tempt one to eat too much before the meal's time. But each dish arrives smoothly (if somewhat delayed at times) and inspries the comment, "Great presentation!" This is not simple fare. The sauces and decorative flourishes fascinate the eye. For lovers of simple Mediterranian fare, Italian style, the effect is French (of course) and nouvelle. My salad came rolled, the autumn vegetables crisp and fresh in a light truffle dressing, with bits of crunchy, fried spelt and chestnuts among other decorative goodies strewn across the plate. Oddly it's the spelt I remember most. How did they turn a plain grain into these little crisp clusters? The seafood and red mullet were done to perfection atop a bed of dark risotto, better for the fine (and not expensive) Albarinho. The not-too-large desserts finally come out, mine a bowl of dried fruit and armagnac ice cream with three rich cookies (not listed in the menu). Chez Bruce manages to deliver a generous prix fixe menu without too much food.

This restaurant has an interesting and quite extensive menu. We were very pleased with all our choices. They also offer little extras, like parmesan biscuits and pastries to have with coffee. It was a very nice touch that they provided a small cake with a candle when they heard that we were celebrating a birthday. We went on a Tuesday when it is possible to take your own bottle, which was a cheaper option than choosing from their wine list.

Chez Bruce is a restaurant we try to go to at least twice a year and we are never disappointed. I am writing this time as they really surpassed themselves. I arrived at my table on time and sat waiting for my guest. After 10 minutes the manager, sensing my discomfort bought over a newspaper for me to read which resulted in the time passing very pleasantly until my guest finally arrived. As usual we were treated to yet another fantastic meal and service.

We had always wanted to try the restaurant and we were not disappointed. A friendly welcome and a very high standard of friendly and efficient service. Familiar to the right degree without being too in your face. We had the tree course lunch menu on a Saturday. Every course was perfect and after the starter could not wait for the next two courses. We had a glass of wine each which were great. We will definitely go back as soon as we can

What a disappointment. Noisy ,poor service, lack lustre food . Come on Chez Bruce raise your game . You're surviving largely because there's nothing else nearby and you're living off your past accolades. Trompette is much better. And at over £80 per person you're not worth it BUT you could be if you were managed better.

The best possible meal is when the delicious food is matched by charming and friendly service. I've eaten at other Michelin starred places where the experience was marred by snooty service but Chez Bruce manages the delicate balance between being totally on point and professional and also cosy and informal. The food was also wonderful. Each mouthful was a delight and the wine chosen for us was gorgeous. I can't wait to return!

Great food, great service knowledgeable somellier and cheese waiters. Food classy and well presented but not too "nouvelle". It is a pretty expensive prix-fixe, extensive wine list but not extortionate soft drinks and extras, but the quality is so high its good value. Service attentive but not intrusive, teenage kids (foodies) were waited on professionally and without being patronised. I has left a lasting impression with us and we will be back, highdays and holidays...

As always the food and wine were fantastic as were the staff. It is a shame that they've crammed one too many tables into the main part of the restaurant downstairs - specifically along the rear wall where we were sat. Not wishing to overstate the problem but by simply removing one table for two would do the trick. There really wasn't enough room to get out without sitting in your neighbours dinner. I realise ever cover counts in the restaurant business but it was the only down point in an otherwise wonderful dining experience.

the food is just great and surprisingly modestly priced - a 3 course for £35 or 2 course for around £25 plus all the little nibblies before, after, inbetween. The wine is not cheap, but also lovely, and can be purchased by the glass if you're keeping an eye on finances or intake. not snooty either. would go back in a heartbeat.

I love Chez Bruce, or did. It's one of my local restaurants & a go to for special occasions. Last night it felt like it was no longer that special. Whilst the food is good & the menu has lovely choices it is let down by poor service and atmosphere. The service was unimpressive. Predominately unfriendly and uninterested. Drinks put down with no eye contact, no interest as the staff happily chatted to themselves and they looked very untidy, it was almost as you would expect in an informal local brasserie. The dining room also felt very crowded with tables so close together I managed to accidentally elbow my neighbour. So overall, I would say past it's best. Disappointing.

This was my third time at Chez Bruce and, as at the two previous occasions, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Professional, courteous, approachable staff; great food, made from the best of ingredients and beautifully presented; not directly cheap but fully in line with the quality provided, so good value for money (and I was so full that I skipped breakfast the next morning, so saved a bit of money there ;-).

The table staff made us feel welcome and were attentive. The food was divine, could not fault it!!!. All 3 courses were delicious and well presented (Spiced fishcakes, Griddled scallops, Black face lamb and CremeCaramel with rum soaked raisins and choc cake plus cheesecake desserts). We were able to bring our own wine (for a small corkage charge) and were treated to a free glass of house Champange as a treat plus some other nibbles. The place deserves its Michelin star. Its a shame Bruce and his head chef were out. I would definitely go back.
