A word from China Tang
Conceived by Sir David Tang, the founder of China Clubs in Hong Kong, Peking, and Singapore, as well as the life-style brand, "Shanghai Tang", China Tang aims to define the best of classical Cantonese food.

There is no fusion of dishes nor compromise on classical recipes, all are prepared with the freshest ingredients and traditional spices and flavourings. No mono-sodium-glutomate (MSG) shall be used.

The decoration of China Tang will evoke a romantic sense of art deco of the thirties in line with the general architecture of the Dorchester Hotel. At the same time, there will be an abundance of Chinoiserie as well as a collection of art from both.

The food was very. Icky prepare and very good. As the evening wore on and the restaurant became more crowded, the service level went down dramatically. It took almost a hour for our desserts to come out one by one, and even then one was wrong and had to be sent back. They were outof both the wine and the whiskey we ordered, but it took them 20 minutes to get back to the table and le us know. It is all basement dining, no windows and it was very loud by the end of the evening. The food was very good, but by the end we just wanted to pay and leave.

While somewhat on the pricey side, you do get good quality Chinese food cooked in a traditional way. Being able to order from the full dim sum menu any time of the day is a definite plus. A clean environment and generally friendly staff.

Thought we would try something different on our trip to London this month and chose the China Tang at the Dorchester. We chose the set lunch menu, with was reasonable value for what you got. The service was first class, but then we not not expect anything else here. However we have had better food. Is it on our MUST return list - sorry I don't think so.

As a lover of Chinese food, I've wanted to go to China Tang for ages, so it was a treat to go last week. We had excellent cocktails in the bar, but it all went downhill at dinner. Total lack of ambience. Tables so close together you can't have a conversation. Laughably overpriced wine list. The table wasn't set properly, no chopsticks or napkins. Food was ok but presentation very poor and unappealing. Lobster lettuce wraps were a pile of mushed lobster with lettuce leaves, tasted ok, but quite bland. Lamb hot plate was tasty. Dim sum was nothing special and poorly presented. It was a very expensive, very mediocre dinner. Definitely won't return. I'll stick to Hakkasan, Chinese Cricket Club, Min Jiang or any of the Royal China restaurants.

Monday lunch time is never going to be the busiest of times, but lack of people in the restaurant affected the atmosphere, there was none! I also ordered the duck and ended up with roast instead of Peking, second time it's happened to me, my fault, but I wish they would check when ordering. The menu is also pretty basic, lots of dishes but you don't actually know what they are.

This was my second visit to this restaurant, and it was rather disappointing. The stir fried chicken with spices is one of the worst dishes I have experienced in a restaurant of this calibrate. The dish arrived luke warm, and was extremely chewy and artificial tasting. The stir-fried beef in black pepper was very good, however, i'd say for the quantity given, overpriced and not to mention poorly presented. The most disappointing aspect for me was service. When I wanted to better understand the menu, the waitress was far from thorough/accommodating. I ordered the halal menu (which states, free from pork, alcohol etc), and yet I was offered wine! This is shire lack of diligence on the part of the waiting staff. Overall, service was slow.

I heard good things about this place but I was very disappointed with my experience. The decor is lovely but I did find the place quiet noisey. We ordered starters and main. The starters came out very quickly and before we had any time to finish both out mains turned up. I asked out waitor to recommend something. He recommended noodles which were dry and not as nice as I would expect from such a high end restaurant. The whole experience felt very rushed and I wouldn't go back again.

Pretty good Chinese. The food was all pretty good - not greasy and flavoursome. The canneloni style dim sum was in particular very good. However I'd probably except slightly better food for the price and location. The service also felt a little rushed. But the ambience is great so overall a pretty good place.

I live between Hong Kong and Uk and when I feel I really need my Chinese food fix, I go to China Tang. The restaurant is beautiful, if you like Art Deco I love the poetry readings in the loo and the food is exceptional. Very authentic and not at all made for a foreigners palate. The experience does not come cheap, and if you really want to go for reasonably priced, excellent dim sum, Royal China in Bayswater is the better option and equally authentic. But this is the whole experience and a wonderful Sunday lunch option. We even drove into London from Surrey for the privilege.

This restaurant is in the decline compared to when I used to live in London 5 year ago and eat here frequently. We had reservations but they sat my wide in a ridiculous bench seat between two cushions and when I requested new table they said no! They brought all the food, starters, main and soup at the same time. The squid dish was basically "Squid McNuggets".. Ribs were fatty. Bill was over $200 US dollars for 2 of us.

Both my friend & I found the service impeccable, the restaurant's ambience interesting (we liked the retro look), but the food a bit hit & miss. Quite disappointed, I have been to many good Chinese restaurants, China Tang is really an average. The only good thing is the decorations and the ambience. Everything else is just average. Its not worth the money. You can get the same quality of food for 50% of the price at many places. The service isn't that good either.

Identified as the naive Gwylows on our arrival (inspite of the fact I had had dinner there the previous night and paid £400 for 2) we were served the whole duck quickly in a shoddy manner the waiter foolishly leaving the fat exposed under the skin. My unexpected complaint was not welcome and the Manager agreed to replace the food to rid himself of the problem. Shocking value for money. Choy sum was mediocre also.
