Myself and my partner ate at City Cafe, part of the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, at 7pm on a Friday summer night. I was expecting it to be very busy, but other than ourselves, we only saw 4 other customers the whole time we were there. Although the location is slightly away from the main hustle and bustle of Brindley Place and Broad Street, we preferred this. Great service - exceptionally attentive staff and very friendly. The food was enjoyable. Between the two of us, we mixed and matched from the main menu and the Garden set menu for our starters and mains. We didn't have room for dessert and were on a deadline for a film at the cinema nearby. I would certainly consider booking again for such an occasion.

We had the vegetable cannelloni and rib-eye steak for mains. Cannelloni was excellent as was the bearnaise sauce with the steak though the steak itself was a little overdone for the medium rare requested. Having said that the meat was very tender and still of the highest quality. Service was excellent from all the staff and the only minor criticism would be the ambience was slightly lacking, largely because the restaurant was very quiet throughout our entire meal.

Ate at the City Cafe, Birmingham on a Tuesday evening. Very quiet - greeted warmly. My husband had the market menu which he enjoyed - smoked salmon roulade and goats cheese risotto. I had smoked salmon and banana cheesecake - no main. Service was prompt and pleasant but let down at the end when the bill was brought when they had failed to remove the charge for the market menu as this was a free meal - poor communication. Overall though quality of food and the 2 glasses of wine was high.

City Cafe was very quiet with only one other table. Service was polite and efficient. Unlike the previous occasion, food was disappointing in terms of quality. It seemed like there was a change in chefs as this time food was very salty starting with the pea soup which was very bland. Paella with seabass main was extremely salty and tasteless. Perhaps the chef had a bad night.

We ate at the City Cafe on Wednesday lunch time before going to a concert in the nearby Symphony Hall. The restaurant is now part of the Hilton group and we very early , hence the lack of 'ambience'. The service was very friendly but not intrusive and the quality of food was above our expectation. We ate from the Market Menu which was very good value and I redeemed my points. Would certainly go back.

The City Cafe is in the Hilton Hotel and was a very pleasant place for a Saturday evening meal on a rainy April evening. We ate from the short market menu which was very good value indeed. This is the 2nd time we have eaten at a Hilton as we wouldn't normally choose a hotel chain but we have been pleasantly surprised.

Opted for the Market menu. For starters, tomato and red pepper soup tasted nice and bread complimented nicely. Duck pancakes was too crispy and fried too long, disappointing. Sea bream prepared very well and creamy sauce complimented very well. Pork cutlet main cooked perfect. Overall very good meal apart from the duck pancake. Will be paying another visit to City Cafe Birmingham

City Cafe (Birmingham). The food was good as was the service, but overall I don't think we'd go there again. The restaurant is part of a hotel, and was totally lacking in atmosphere. There was only one other person there apart from us, so it was deadly quiet. Also I expected it to be part of the main Brindley Place area by the canal, amongst a bit of life, but it isn't. It is about a five minute walk from there in a very quiet square surrounded by office blocks. Also the portions are very small!

We had a pleasant meal at the City Cafe. We went on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was really quiet. I got the impression that most of the other diners were staying in the hotel - we travelled around 30 minutes to get here. The food was nice but not exceptional - I'm not sure that I would go out of my way to eat here again. In my opinon there are plenty of better restaurants in Birmingham!

After finding the City Cafe in Birmingham on Trip Advisor and reading all the very positive reviews, I confidently booked a table! I'll be honest and say compared to those reviews I was a little disappointed - but it was a lovely meal with pleasant service. The menu was not huge, but the wine list sufficient. Food was beautifully presented, portions on the smaller side, we'll cooked but a little underwhelming on the taste front. The lemon tart was REALLY good.

Upon arrival, it was clear that the staff were not expecting us. This was the more difficult to forgive as upon arrival the restaurant was completely empty, and so it was not that they were up to their eyes. We had booked of course- for the latest lunch time. We were asked if we had come for tea. Waiting staff performance picked up after the dire start, and the food was OK.

A modern restaurant, with comfortable seating, great decor and pleasant location. I made the booking online very easily. A reminder email and phone call was made to me too, which was an impressive touch. The service at the restaurant was good (some staff didn't fully know the menu in much detail, but they sought clarification when needed). A concise food menu is available, but a large wuine list to choose from. The quality of the food is what I call fine dining! It's an ideal place to go before or after seeing a show at the Crescent Theatre. Overall, better than I expected and would highly recommend and re-visit in the future.

Visited the City Cafe in B'ham on 10 Jan. No record of our booking which was annoying because it was redeeming a free meal but they let us have one anyway. Service was a bit slow at first - shame because the place wasn't busy. Had one seafood noodle starter and we both had sea trout and then one treacle tart. All from Market Menu - very good value. Food very tasty. Service speeded up. Good wine by the glass.

A very embarrasing moment, partly my fault, partly Toptables not notifying the restaurant I was using my 2000 points. We had to wait befor ordering for confirmation. Food was quite good as was the service apart from the start. Although was told by waitress my wifes main came without accompanyment so we ordered sides which we didnt need as it came with baked potatoes sliced? Wine overpriced for the quality £24 Caraffe of average red. Food value good though @ £19.95 3 courses.

Ambience difficult to judge as it is clearly set up to deal with the business Market. Having said that, they had gone up efforts to make the large space cosier and more intimate, and to the most part succeeded.
