A word from Cucina Asellina
Based on the popular Asellina from New York, Cucina Asellina will bring artisanal, well priced, Italian home-cooking in a stunning, contemporary setting.
Inspired by the traditional flavours and textures of simple Italian cuisine, Cucina Asellina's ethos is reminiscent of a humble Mediterranean kitchen. A warm, inviting atmosphere will welcome guests to enjoy classics prepared just as one would envisage served around an Italian family dinner table.
Cucina Asellina takes inspiration from the original Asellina Taverna in Pompeii, and the legend of Asellina herself who was regarded as a female pioneer of Roman hospitality.
Guests will be able to experience Asellina from 10am for morning coffees and breakfast plates, through to all day dining then cichetti and cocktails before dinner, finishing at midnight.

Diner Reviews
  • "Fantastic food that came quickly. Perfect setting for a business lunch - not too loud and the right side of formal without being stuffy."
    dined on 20/08/2014
  • "This is the second time in a week we went to this restaurant. The menu said free glass of wine with the meal and this is what the waitress offered us. When we had finished, we were charged for the wine!! I complained about this and was told wine was not included in our package. In spite of the waitress insisting we have a glass. The second time, we ordered a better wine knowing that we have to pay any way. The waitress again told us we were still owed 2 glasses of free wine. We said we didnt want any. She insisted so we said bring us 1 glass. Guess what? We were charged for this wine too. When we queried this, she said we had been given a better wine which was NOT included in the offer. All I can say is I feel duped. Wont go again"

  • "On a visit with daughter to the Globe Theatre to see matinee performance of King Lear. The helpful staff ensured we were able to make good choices and the food was served quickly allowing us plenty of time to enjoy. Lovely food nicely presented and ideal for a special lunch. We could have chosen to eat for a lot less expense but personally our experience at Cucina Asellina really made our day in London special and I am so pleased we chose to eat there.."

  • "All of the staff were cheerful and attentive. The meal was beautifully prepared and presented. Our only challenge was never being able to get through on the phone to get better instructions on how to find them and to say that, though late, we were coming."

  • "This is the third time I've been there. It's a chic italian with staff who clearly know their italian food and wine. The service is attentive. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a genuine italian experience in the heart of London."

  • "The restaurant was empty (August evening - therefore no ambience). The food was average. Beautiful setting however, the food does not match the place. The service too eager - they must have asked us 7 times if everything was alright, e.g.at the beginning of the main course and twice during the main course, which is, sincerely, too much."

  • "In an Italian restaurant the UK we expect zucchini to be deep fried in a tempura batter (delicious) so we ordered two side portions. These were griddled and without the batter so did not please our expectations. I had a mixed grill which was cooked well. My wife had frito misto (mixed fish) but there was little else but squid. The only chips were polenta - they do not do potato fries. My wife's Mango dessert was well presented and and enjoyed. For an Italian restaurant I expected the ice cream and sorbet range to be better and certainly to include Cassis (blackcurrant) but range was limited although the taste was good. Service very attentive and ambience enjoyable. Pricey for lunch."

  • "The choice for vegetarian was very limited Cost of gin and tonic was 9.50 which when you compare to restaurants in similar hotels is exorbitant"

  • "I took visitors from overseas to Cucina. The food was awful and everyone complained about the quality. We give it a 0 rating. The bill came and we were incorrectly charged for a very expensive wine and side we never received. The service was average."
    dined on 20/07/2014
  • "This is the second time that I have had lunch here and it is a nice restaurant with good food. I have tried different wines and they have been excellent even the cheapest one on the wine list. Always a good sign in a restaurant. I went with friends and they were very impressed with the Asellina and the Radio roof top bar upstairs. I would take anyone that I wanted to impress."
    dined on 19/07/2014
  • "A group of 6, we were warmly welcomed by staff upon arrival at this chic restaurant. We allowed 2 hours for a pre theatre dinner but perhaps should have ordered from the set menu as we were a little rushed by the time we got to dessert. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable, the meals were beautifully cooked and the desserts just divine. The location is great for pre theatre dining."

  • "We had a pre-lunch drink at the Radio rooftop bar at the ME London hotel, which is within the Marconi Building on the Strand. The drink is expensive but worth it for the ambience and view. Cucina Asellina is ME London's italian restaurant on the ground floor. The restaurant is beautifully designed by Norman Foster and felt special. The food was very well cooked and presented. I usually avoid bruschetta but was intrigued by the sound of crab bruschetta. I needn't have worried it was excellent. I then had the lobster pasta which was also beautifully cooked with lots of lobster and homemade pasta. I highly recommend this restaurant. I marked it down for ambience because there were only two other tables dining at the time."

  • "The food was cold. There wasn't a variety of food to choose from.its over priced for what it is. Service was good though."
    dined on 12/07/2014
  • "Starters were nice and pasta really well cooked and well seasoned (it's quite a challenge to find not overcooked pasta in London, even among Italian restaurants !)"

  • "It good with the food, but worst with deserts ... The tiramisu I tried can make it better myself. Service of 15% is also quite higher than usual at places around."
    dined on 11/07/2014
  • "but 15% service charge for two courses is a bit high! Could do with more inventive veggie options on set menu but the sea bass was lovely. £4.50 for a small serving of beans was rather ott, we felt. Pud was delicious and service good so that we didn't have to worry about getting to the theatre on time."
    dined on 30/06/2014
  • "Booking a restaurant for my boss is always a worry! Even more so, this time, as I was attending too!! But thankfully, the worry was unnecessary. Service was great, from concierge, bar and waiting. Food and wine were lovely, all dishes cooked perfectly. It wasn't too loud, despite a few large parties, so we were able to easily hold a conversation. A lovely restaurant! Would definitely recommend."
    dined on 28/06/2014
  • "Great food in a modern setting. Open table set menu is great value. Good location near to strand and Covent garden."
    dined on 27/06/2014
  • "On Opentable it is advertised as having a set menu (2 courses for £16 3 for £20) but on arrival told that the deal was after 3pm. On here it is advertised from 12 noon until 7pm. It was very quiet and the staff didnt seem to have much to do yet we couldnt get their attention when we wanted to order. The mains we had werent anything special and the tiramasu was mostly cream in a coffee cup (it comes in a coffee cup). It feels pretty sterile inside, lighting seems a bit dim and could be brighter. I work close by and went for a business lunch, I wouldnt go back in hurry (or at all)."
    dined on 24/06/2014
  • "The service was quick and efficient. My friend's Gravad Salmon was not Gravad it was simply smoked salmon with a few grassy looking leaves. My starter was cold and should have been hot."
    dined on 21/06/2014
  • "I normally avoid hotel restaurants, however this is a good option for central London. The set menu was good value and the service was very attentive. There seemed to be some confusion among the staff about getting access from the restaurant to the rooftop bar. However once the manager was called he kindly escorted us upstairs so we didn't have to wait in the queue outside. An all round nice evening."
    dined on 19/06/2014
  • "Very nice selection and delicious, Especially with glass of wine included. Always seems not right tome that you have to pay for £4.50 for any side dish which of course then makes the set dinner price - not a set price, if you see what I mean!"
    dined on 16/06/2014
  • "We went as a family for dinner. We had the 2 course set menu £20. The food was very good, we all finished off our meals. The service was very good also, as it was empty (only two other tables occupied). Will go again!"
    dined on 15/06/2014
  • "Almost empty restaurant 5pm on a (nice) Sat. Service was rather hit and miss despite this. Cocktails very yummy and could have enjoyed more .... Mozarella starter was nice; seabass was delicious, chicken was enjoyed, polenta chips lacked seasoning. Panacotta was lovely with pistachio brittle and cherry topping but the aniseed biscotti weren't mentioned (can't eat aniseed). Glass of processo and rose wine went well. Okay but not amazing."
    dined on 07/06/2014
  • "went there for a quick business lunch; the place was not too busy therefore the service was quick and efficient; the food was very tasty and presented in a rather sophisticated way; overall it was a great experience and will be going back"
    dined on 04/06/2014
  • "we were going to the opera and only had 40 minutes. They were brilliant at getting both our starter and main course on time, and still enable us to get to the opera on time. Good quality food, great cocktails, and appropriately attentive yet not intrusive service. The food is very good - not amazing - but certainly good value for what you are paying at £16 for two courses"
    dined on 29/05/2014
  • "Amazing location right in the heart of theatre land..modern contemporary decor..pre theatre menu £16 for 2 courses £20 for 3...unbeatable. Attentive service. As far as the 15% service charge goes (which is far too step) you are not obliged to pay it as we didn't..I asked the waitress to add on 10%..everyone happy."
    dined on 26/05/2014
  • "The restaurant was over priced and felt that the food was bland. Pretty empty yet the 5 or 6 table were all crammed together"
    dined on 23/05/2014
  • "quite a slick, posh decor which is fairly clinical but still has nice atmosphere. Service was decent and food was excellent. A bit too pretentious for my taste but definitely has a touch of the wow factor"
    dined on 22/05/2014
  • "A little slice of Italy in a luxurious London hotel - Cucina Asellina serves hearty food in an authentic Italian way. The pre theatre menu is of good value. Service is speedy so you won't have to worry about the two hour turnaround on tables. "
    dined on 22/05/2014
  • "Our party of 11 had a pre Theatre meal at Cucina Asellina. Menu a little restrictive in 3 choices only - but food tasty and presented well. Very very good value meal as 2 courses including glass of wine for £ 16. Staff very friendly and accommodating, and a nice looking restaurant. Overall good addition to the fringe Covent Garden / Soho restaurants - in the Strand."
    dined on 18/05/2014
  • "The food was average and certainly not worth the very high prices. However, the worst thing was the poor service. It is a large restaurant and when we arrived the room was virtually empty and therefore very quiet. Nevertheless, as soon as another couple arrived they were placed right next to us thereby killing any opportunity for private conversation. Furthermore, each time that any food or drink was brought to our table, the server did not know which of us had ordered what - for goodness sake, there were only 2 of us and so why didn't they make a note of our orders? For this amateurish performance a hefty 15% was added to the bill - on top of already excessive food prices. We will not be returning. "
    dined on 17/05/2014
  • "My three friends and I had a lovely evening here. The smells coming from the kitchen were beautiful and when the food arrived we were not disappointed! The two course deal was brilliant value and the service was very attentive. No complaints."
    dined on 13/05/2014
  • "My friend was visiting me from Winchester for Bank Holiday weekend and I had, had good things about this restaurant. I booked in advance and we turned up early hoping to have cocktails in the Radio Rooftop bar. When we turned up and stated we had booked into the restaurant for a little later they welcomed us into the rooftop bar. I have a feeling it may have been trickier otherwise. Cocktail bar atmosphere amazing as were the views. The food in the Italian restaurant was very good and we had the 3 course set menu for £20, we had an exceptional red wine too, not too pricey. We then returned to Radio for more cocktails after dinner. Our waitress at the restaurant was very attentive and helpful explaining things on the menu too."
    dined on 04/05/2014
  • "the food is wonderful with a excellent mix of pastas, pizzas and main courses. Our mushroom pizza shared as first course was excellent. The wine list was good and not expensive with some interesting wines... always a good sign "
    dined on 03/05/2014
  • "We dined at Cucina Asselina because the previous reviews were really positive. Don't get me wrong the restaurant is very stylish but the food really lacked quality and flavour. The pickled salmon tasted mushy and the best thing on the starter plate were the beans. The confit of chicken was not appetising, lacked seasoning and flavour. It was all so bland. It's probably the worst Italian restaurant I've dined at. I should have just had pizza :("

  • "We enjoyed a lovely meal at Cucina Asellina on a Wednesday evening. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable giving good detail on the menu items and pairing a good wine for our meals. Atmosphere was good, quiet due to the tube strikes albeit that suited us fine, and would highly recommend Cucina for a great evening with a special one. We went to the Radio Rooftop Bar afterwards to cap a perfect evening (would highly recommend that - the waiter should be able to sort for you)"

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed catching up with an ex colleague on a spring evening in this glamourous and spacious venue. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient and the food (from a deal/reduced menu) was delicious. The freshly made Italian bread selection served with a little caper/anchovy and olive spread was a real treat. "

  • "We booked for an early dinner on Saturday afternoon. The service was great. The food was average. Value for money - was good. Great wine! "
