Diner Reviews
  • "Opentable allowed me and my guests to make a reservation at 22.15, after Cucina had closed. They were politely told to go to Pizza Express next door. What a useless service Opentable is. {Please may I have an apology, and I suggest you sort out your relationships with your restaurants.)"

  • "We recently ate at Cucina for my Mum's birthday. It was brilliant! The staff were so attentive, and the extra little touches of a free drink for my mum and candles for happy birthday at the end were really great. They were also very flexible in meeting the tastes of my niece, providing a pasta option that wasn't strictly on the menu. The food was lovely, and the hake and carbonara went down outstandingly well. Also fantastic value for money. We even loved the bathroom. Will definitely be going again!"

  • "After an an initial first visit for lunch the return visit for dinner was awful. I've wasted enough time and money on Cucina to spend any more time listing all that was wrong with it - to make it simple: if you like good food and service go somewhere else."

  • "The food was good but not exceptional, and in the centre of Edinburgh's Old Town there is a lot of good food. The decor may give you a migraine as there is a lot of black and white stripes, checks, flowers etc. I found it very unrelaxing. The loos are reminiscent of an 80s disco. The service to be efficient but not at all friendly. "

  • "We were warmly welcomed in this attractive restaurant, but ultimately disappointed by the treatment of our waiter. Three of us had spaghetti carbonara, which all found to be over-salted. The waiter offered no apology, neither did he make any deduction from the bill. In addition, I had to explain that coffee and petits fours were included with the toptable deal, which he eventually, grudgingly, accepted. "

  • "We ate on the pre theatre menu . We were not staying that the hotel. The service was excellent, the starters were good and my wife's main course of chicken was very good. My spaghetti, (carbonarra I think it was called) , however, was just that, spaghetti!. The flavour/stock was good but there was very little else at all visible in it. I realise that in Italy this is often the case but the pasta is a course before the meat there. This WAS the main course so I think most Brits would find it lacking. Waiters were charming and very helpful. "

  • "We have never been disappointed with Cucina - great value, lovely decor and super staff. Our visit this time was made even better by the two tables of lovely young ladies having afternoon tea. Cucina can be quiet in the afternoons, and their chatter and laughter really lifted the atmosphere. We always visit when we come to Edinburgh, and will continue to do so. Even if you don't need to use it, check out the lift, a riot of colour, and the ladies toilets would not be out of place on a film set."

  • "Lunch at Cucina is not as good value as it used to be, but it is still very good. Top-quality pasta, fresh and authentic ingredients. Elegant surroundings too."

  • "Went after work with friends. We booked the Italian starter and Lasagne deal. This included a bottle of wine. Thought that this was amazing value. Will definately return."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Very disappointing ! The lasagne was very dry and we were given no choice of what we ate. We would have been happy to pay for extras had they been offered. These deals should be seen as an opportunity to shine rather than fill up a restaurant."

  • "Very good, authentic, Italian food. Lunchtime set meal is good value & well worth a visit."

  • "We arrived 15 mins early for our 6pm dinner (we were in a rush) and had to sit and wait while they vacuumed the restaurant. Not a great start and as we were the only ones there the ambiance was poor. The meal was good value, but the lasagne portion was rather small - seems unnecessary when a larger portion would have cost them so little. The wine was good!"

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Cucina for dinner and had a great night with the staff making it even better. I haven't experienced such friendly, attentive staff in a long time and we agreed that the food was great (as was the wine!) but the staff were even better. Having just received vouchers for my birthday for Missoni, we will definitely be coming back soon - and will be bringing all our friends. Thanks Cucina - you made what could have been an average date night a real pleasure."

  • "Excellent value on the set lunch menu, although we did have to request this having only been given the a la carte menu. Service otherwise very good. Wine pricey. Food delicious. Would recommend and return."

  • "1) Food was excellent Italian (mia mamma era italiana!). Most generous and delicious bread basket I have had in a long while included for free. 2) Service was slow, sat for 10-15 mins before anyone asked if we even wanted a drink. Suspect they had a new round of recruits in as was early Sep- nice but ditzy. The top waiter was excellent however and worked hard to compensate for any glitches - replacing flat glass of prosecco no question etc and we saw him sitting down with a table to listen to their (presumed) complaints. 3) Ambience will be harder to fix as feels like a large corridor space. Nothing at all to look at in one direction if you happen to be facing the stairs which come up rather intrusively into the restaurant space"

  • "Disappointing culinary experience, exacerbated by the lack of atmosphere in an almost empty large dining area. This resulted in overly attentive staff. Cauliflower soup was extremely bland and salmon to follow uninspired. The very reasonable set lunch at £15.95 was counterbalanced, unfortunately, by the overly expensive wine list. Would certainly not be eager to return."

  • "... But we weren't part of it. Service wasn't bad considering waiters were rushed off their feet. Food came quickly and was very good. Main complaint was volume... Acoustics didn't help."

  • "My wife and I were in Edinburgh for the weekend and picked Cucina because it had good reports and because it was close to our hotel. We arrived just before 9 on Friday evening and Cucina was initially half empty but began to fill to more respectable levels within the following hour. The food was exquisite and the service excellent. The only problem was that the modern décor on the first floor of the hotel felt more in keeping with a department store. The pricing seemed somewhat high for Edinburgh - Central London levels - but the quality of the food lived up to the pricing."

  • "Had 2 courses prior to theatre. Friendly and attentive service and we were out in an hour having had an excellent meal."

  • "I wouldn't say best Italian in Edinburgh as others stated. It has very pleasant surroundings and the bar area below was quite busy which added to the atmosphere. Waiters were very attentive and polite, could not fault them. However the menu was a bit unusual and a big more gastro style dishes. Risotto was about the only starter appealing to me and it was lovely - allow 20mins for cooking! Rib eye was the only main to my liking, it was nice although steak was a but over cooked than what I asked for but nicely presented. I probably would eat here again but I wouldn't rush back it was nothing spectacular compared to other Italian restaurants I have eaten in and that is quite a few!!"

  • "From the moment we walked in we knew we would love this place. My partner and I were treating a friend to birthday lunch and everything about it was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and not at all stuffy. The food was amongst the best I've ever had and the meal was very reasonably priced. Really can't wait to go back."

  • "Cucina is always one top of the chart, and never fails to impress. Not to mention that it is the best Italian restaurant in Edinburgh, no doubt about that. Food is always outstanding and well prepared and presented. I'm a regular curstomer at this restaurant, and they deserve way more than a simple review. Just give it a try, it is the place to visit! Thanks to all the staff and a special thanks to the waiting staff, always carefull to provide a service with a smile, a real smile!"

  • "I booked during the festival. I needed a great place to eat and relax with friends which would offer a great choice of food, a relaxed atmosphere and top quality service. I got the lot at Cucina. In addition there is a funky cocktail bar to meet before your meal. Service is polite and attentive but not intrusive. Food is high quality and well presented but without the fussiness. A great place to meet, eat and catch up with friends in a lovely relaxed atmosphere."

  • "I brought my Mum to Cucina for a late birthday meal and she absolutely loved it. The service was a delight and the food delicious. Mum had the pork and thoroughly enjoyed it while my girlfriend had the ravioli and said it was the best pasta she'd ever eaten. Our mean was well complimented by cocktails from the bar downstairs - the Old Fashioned was superb. Lovely, lively restaurant and not overpriced."

  • "Had a lovely evening here. Food great, service great, value great. Only down side was that it was a little quiet for a Friday night so could have had more atmosphere. That said it was getting busier when we left about 9pm. Keep up the good work!"

  • "Went there for dinner after arriving at the hotel earlier. Service was very friendly but seemed a little disorganised (e.g., lots of waiting staff, but it took a strangely long time before someone came to take our food order or to offer bread; by the time we ordered, a few things were no longer available and, once we did order, the waiter then came back and told us that one of the dishes was also not available; the waiter who we asked about the wine list seemed only to know (or like) the Gavi and didn't seem to want to entertain any of the other wines we mentioned (even though they were more expensive!) The service did go some way to balancing this and the food was very nice, but the whole experience seemed to be missing something."

  • "I had the pleasure to eat at Cucina several times now and as Italian, I can definetely say that this is the only and best Italian restaurant in town. The chef does a great job and all the staff is nice and well trained. I'll be back soon and I suggest to anyone to try this lovely restaurant."

  • "Good music, friendly waiter, stylish decor, lovely food. All of which is reflected by the price of course. Really-really liked the whole experience."

  • "My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Cucina, the Hotel Missoni's restaurant. We were made to feel very special. Great wine and gorgeous food both with great selections. I enjoyed all the gorgeous Missoni branded crockery and fabrics. The staff were excellent and it was great that we got our 25% off the bill for pre-booking the offer. Its in a great location in Edinburgh, just off the Royal Mile. The cocktail bar downstairs is also relaxed and fabulous. We loved it and would go again, perhaps with a group of friends for a special birthday."

  • "we were met promptly and shown to our seats, waiters were very attentive all throughout meal without being obtrusive. We went for the set menu, which had a good selection of options. I had a lovely crepe with bechamel and tomato sauce as a starter, and we both had the penne with pork ragu, which was delicous. The wine by the glass was outstanding, and I was left wanting another, I would definately recommend this restaurant to friends and family."
