A word from Dabbous
Stripped-down, relaxed fine-dining in the heart of Fitzrovia. Spread over two floors, Dabbous comprises a dining room and basement bar, both with an industrial but organic feel: exposed brickwork, sheet metal and copper pipes offset by candlelight and natural woods. The menu offers elegant yet restrained food, characterised by clean flavours and simple presentation. Dishes include: salad of fennel, lemon balm and pickled rose petals; barbecued Iberico pork with savoury acorn praline, turnip tops and homemade apple vinegar; and fig leaf icecream. In the basement bar you will find both classic and signature cocktails, such as the Dillusion: cucumber, elderflower and dill mixed with Bloom gin, ice and lemon. A limited selection of bar snacks is offered alongside the full restaurant menu. Tailored music playlists and table service also feature. All in all, a more modern and informal alternative to many of London"s fine dining restaurants.Continued

  • "The tasting menu is a real treat & recommended by the staff as a showcase of the kitchen's talents. So true. The dishes are innovative and playful, e.g. a mint-pea soup that included a pea granita. The staff is competent and the meal was perfectly paced. Although the restaurant has many hard services (no noise damping strategies), my husband and I could easily carry on a conversation. This is a highly recommended dining spot."

  • "Went for the 4 course set lunch which was OK but nothing remarkable. Good quality ingredients cooked with skill but lacked any wow factor. Pea puree and granita - just a strong chilled taste of pea - would have preferred this warm. Tomatoes on toast - appeared like reduced tinned tomatoes. I thought I could taste the flour in the Bechamel base used in the coddled egg. Other courses equally unimpressive Small portions and on balance not great value for money. The decor is quite industrial and the clientele seemed like Ad agency Execs on business lunches. I really can't see what the hype is about."

  • "Our hopes were high for our visit to Dabbou, but the experience exceeded the expectation. Service was relaxed and competent, but the food, oh the food! Intense flavours with a lightness of touch, unusual but delicious flavour combinations left us marvelling at the skill of the chef. Heaven. Also a fantastic wine list with extensive availability by the glass and half carafe. Very special."

Fresh and tasty, we certainly didn't go hungry with the smaller of the two lunch menus , I would definitely recommend. The bread and smoked butter was amazing too."

  • "Our midday lunch prior to an evening opera was our finest meal during our 10 day holiday in France and the U.K. The food was brilliantly prepared, execution sharp as a tack, and flavors both harmonious yet at the same time startlingly original. The course of charred broccoli with a broken rapeseed emulsion (mayonnaise) will long linger in the memory, simplicity of the naming notwithstanding. Also, we loved the greeting, service and ambiance, with competence, rather than formality the preferred mode. Finally, it was lovely to have an especially interesting drink list among the potable possibilities; both of our drinks were delicious and original. Bravo!"

  • "Had the set lunch here. The decor is slightly industrial which surprised. For 28£ you get 4 courses plus lovely mini Japanese peaches at the end, which is pretty good value. Service is friendly and good but the reason to eat here is for the food which did not disappoint. Started slow with slices of salmon that was nice but unmemorable. But the next three courses were amazing - chargrilled broccoli, cod brandade with pickled ginger and the vanilla cream with brioche were inventive with outstanding flavours. Portions were good and was very full after the meal. Definitely recommended and would love to come back for the tasting menu!"

There is only the choice of a set-menu (£28) unfortunately, so if you are not willing to spend big on your lunch this is not for you. But if you do not care then this is a good place to go to and the variety of the set menu has something for everybody. Elegant staff and clean/trendy surroundings with very comfortable room climate. Perfect for business lunches and dinners."

  • "We've went to Dabbous restaurant for lunch since there was no way to get a dinner sit. We chose the lunch tasting menu over the full tasting menu (no a la cart option). The food was Ok, Not something you expect from a decorated restaurant like Dabbous, The price is Ok for lunch (29 pound each for the menu + quite expensive wine list). Bottom line - it was Ok, no more. If you're going at noon, ask for the full tasting menu - I guess it will be much better."

Being in Dabbous is like going to a party where everything is so cool that you want time to stop so you never have to leave. The food is oh so cleverly executed, sublime to the point of genius and original - each dish flows perfectly - the ultimate sequence of flavour and foodie fun. I cannot fault this food experience. Decor is basic funky and the service is attentive and a little loose."

  • "After having finally gotten a reservation at Dabbous, my expectations for the meal were quite high. I'm happy to say that in terms of the food, my expectations were easily met. We had the tasting menu and while the dishes weren't always complex and the techniques weren't unimitable, they frequently combined flavors in ways I wouldn't have thought of myself. The only complaint we had was with the service. We were seated 15 minutes after our reservation time and frequently had to refill our own wine and water. Neither of these are complaints that ruined our night, but I feel like we were paying for a five star meal and while the food lived up to that, the service did not. "

They catered for all allergies and gluten-free and made the experience really enjoyable. There was not one dish I didn't love. Service was impeccable. I cannot wait to return."

  • "After much urging from a hardcore gourmet to try out this place, I made reservation for 4 pax and travelled 13 hours to eat here. The experience was A letdown. My cod was over salted and I spat it out after my first bite. Being Asian, I am accustomed to very seasoned fare and food with a fair amount of salt but this was way too salty. One waiter was defiant and claimed that the chef did not add salt at all. I recommended that the chef tried it for himself and another waiter returned apologized and said that particular portion served to me was somehow over salted. The other dishes food were generally pleasant but not particularly awe inspiring tasty such that one would vow to come back. "

  • "The set lunch was excellent value with the set lunch almost mimicking the tasting menu. The warm sourdough which came in a paper bag was one of the best i've eaten in a long time. Best dish of the day was the pulled veal breast with shaved raw white asparagus and summer truffles. Too delish to ever forget. The coddled egg with mushrrom was another unforgetable dish. A let down maybe that the dishes were not heated enough before plating so the food was lukewarm by the time it hit the table. Small quibble for the quality dished up."

The food was excellent as usual - the bread, butter, nuts, mayonaise and all the ' little' things were superb. The champagne was reasonably priced. In all a great lunch.
