Diner Reviews
  • "It's a nice calm, refreshing location, closing out the busy Blackfriars smog behind you. Staff were sufficiently attentive though they did put a large group table right next to us when the rest of the restaurant was completely empty, so we enjoyed their conversation as well as our own at times. We had a pasta with lobster that was well put together, tasted fresh and the pasta perfectly cooked, but at £16.50 you'd expect nothing less. The Triamisu was light, creamy but with little alocholic bite to it, it was served in a coffee cup for £7. All in all, a pleasant lunch in a smart location with good service but a bill that left me a little empty for what we had."

  • "Found Diciannove via a TravelZoo deal so our 3 course meal including a glass of prosecco was outstanding value for money, not least in a city restaurant on a Saturday night. Was nice to be able to choose from full menu & we thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. I had scallops to start & veal for my main. The veal was especially nice; tender. My husband had a lobster spaghetti course to start with lamb for his main & we also shared some foccacia to start & buttered spinach with our mains. The foccacia was a little lacking in salt but with oil & balsamic to dip it in it soon revived it. We had a chocolate mouse & a cheese board for pudding which were enjoyable. The staff were all very polite & attentive to our needs & friendly."

  • "I just love going to Diciannove. I go for business meals or with my friends . I cannot get enough of that place. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed (but not dead). Nicely decorated, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Excellent service as well. I have tried several dishes but I tend to order the same grilled sole all the time, it is so nice! The meat dishes are also very nice, I have tried the veal and the beef and mashed potatoes as well. Finally I must tell you about the chocolate mousse. I am not a chocolate mousse lover usually but the one I have at Diciannove is the best thing !! It is to die for, I have to order it every time I have a meal there. Next time I will try to get the recipe..."

  • "The £25 for 3 courses is great value for the quantity you get. We were all stuffed. The variety of dishes was really good. The quality of the dishes was reasonably good too."

  • "We were told we can order anything off the menu except the risotto as they would have to make it fresh and it would take 20 minutes. Draw your own conclusions"

  • "The meal was great, especially the sharing platter... although there was so much food we were too full for our mains. Great selection on the menu and an extensive wine list, if you like Italian Wines. Two of us had the fillet steak and it was cooked the perfection. The staff were great, in fact our waiter was so lovely and very informative with his recommendations. Overall a great place to eat and would highly recommend."

  • "Went for Christmas meal at Diciannove City and good time. Food was good but something was missing it could have been that place was busy with other Christmas meals so it took available to get your orders in. Worked in their favour as we were not in a hurry. Good place to take colleagues for lunch."

  • "Dicianove, dinner for three, a week before Christmas. Huge booths which mean that the person on the opposite side of the table is almost five feet away, however, one shouldn't complain about space, only lack of space. Service very attentive, perhaps a little too so at times, but eventually the eager waiter began to get the timing right. Food really quite good, scallops and beetroot starters praised; pork belly and sole fillets good for mains (they were very flexible about the changing the vegetable garnishes at no extra charge). Wine list as one would expect for an hotel-attached restaurant. Overall a very pleasurable experience. Restaurant surprisingly not overly busy just before Christmas, I wonder why?"

  • "I went with a friend for dinner. We were both pleasantly surprised by the nice decor and atmosphere. The food is very good and the service is great, very tentative but not intrusive."

  • "Restaurant was practically empty at 7.30 on a Saturday evening, so there was little ambience. Service was attentive, but a bit pushy - always trying to sell an extra! Antipasti starter was disappointing, like a selection from the supermarket deli counter, but main course veal was excellent, well cooked and flavoursome. Overall, could have been better."

  • "Had dinner with 2 visiting Americans - we had great food, good wine and friendly helpful service. Not overly busy hence was relatively quiet. Would certainly recommend."

  • "Service was very good - I've been before and enjoyed the experience this time too. Anti Pasti Il Supremo is very good and offers a great selection Lobster Spaghetti is tasty - good portion Scallops - rather rubbery, not great in flavour nor texture Pork Belly - very good indeed Pumpkin Risotto - so so."
    dined on 16/11/2013
  • "This has to be the WORST service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Did not bring out the starter, brought out the mains, spilt wine all over the table and we had to request the waiter to clean it up, we asked for the bill....20 mins later...NOTHING. Went up to physically pay the bill, the starter was on there with no 50% discount. I then had to get them to amend the bill. Appalling."

  • "I booked this restaurant for our anniversary trip to London on the toptable 50% off food. When we first arrived friendly staff greeted us and showed us to our seats. The other diners were all business people which was a little intimidating but the staff were attentive which helped us to relax and enjoy our meal. We had lovely Italian bread and scallops to start which was simply delicious. We had lobster spaghettini and pork ragout tagliatelle which were both cooked to perfection and we loved eating. To finish we had two lovely deserts - the chocolate salami was a new and tasty experience. The wine was a perfect accompaniment and easily drinkable. In all a brilliant way to celebrate our anniversary - thank you Diccianove!"

  • "My partner and I had a fabulous evening meal on saturday night. We both had 3 courses, over 2.5 hrs as it was wonderfully relaxed inside. The ambiance is very romantic and the setting just by Blackfriars bridge was lovely. The food was delicious, portions not too big, not too small! Our waiter was amazing, and definitely topped off our evening - we were very impressed by him, so much I have booked to go back with my family on Wednesday! Thank you for a lovely evening Diciannove!"

  • "We found this restaurant because we were going to the Bridewell Theatre. Both of the choices for that night were excellent. The 50% off food made our meal amazing value, and the food flavours were outstanding. The grilled sole with anchovy butter beans were sublime. Mouth melting macaroons with the bill. Will go there again and have already recommended."

  • "A very quiet evening in the restaurant... only one other couple dining so had full attention of staff who were exceedingly friendly, attentive and very helpful. Food was excellent ... a large shared starter between 4 people did not disappoint and the mains were superb, both in presentation and taste. Overall, although restaurant very quiet, all in our party would return again. The proximity to the tube make this restaurant very accessible.. a 2 minute walk."

  • "I went there with my husband last Saturday. We had a good dinner experience. The food was tasty, its presentation well-finished and the service was very good. I really recommend to try it!"

  • "We visited before when it was Refettorio's and the food back then was excellent! I enjoyed our night again as the food was nice (although I can't, rather unfortunately, say it was as good as before). The menu is a lot smaller than before which limits your options, especially if you are vegetarian which thankfully I'm not but my two guests were. The service was outstanding, both waiters were very attentive to our needs. I would go back again as it's a very serene and calm restaurant, definitely one to have a good relaxed conversation in, nice to catch up with friends, without having to shout."
    dined on 17/10/2013
  • "Had a great meal here- Porcini Tagliatelle and Lobster Spaghetti- the wine list was good and waiters were attentive. Perfect location to use when visiting the Mermaid Theatre. Would love to have had time for a starter, and the Tiramisu and Italian sour Cherries were delicious. Lovely ambience. Would definitely eat here again."

  • "We booked a table at this restaurant through Top Table a couple of days in advance for 8pm on Saturday. When we arrived we were asked to sit on a table with high stools. We asked for a better table - plenty available - but were told no. We decided on antipasti as a starter, but were told it was all gone. An Italian restaurant with no antipasti - unbelievable! And as the evening went on and we saw other diners who arrived and ordered after us being served antipasti we found out it was completely untrue. We were eventually moved to a better table. The cured pork cheeks are indistinguishable from pancetta, but the sausage ravioli were good, as was the veal and the chocolate dessert. All in all not really worth it."

  • "Located next to Blackfriars, this Italian makes a good destination for a business lunch but is not a destination restaurant in itself. The food is well-cooked and nicely presented, but the restaurant struggles to fit the large space it occupies."
    dined on 08/05/2013
  • "The quality of the food is very good and to a similar standard to its predecessor (Refettorio). However, the service had a negative impact on the overall experience. Overall too slow, not to mention that it took them 20 minutes to tell us that that our dessert selection had run out and a further 20 mins to come up with an alternative."
    dined on 28/09/2013
  • "The 'Il Supremo Anti Pasti' was really quite filling - good value for money. Lobster spaghetti well worth trying Fillet steak was cooked well and around 200g so not a bad price. Lamb loin was ok, a little fatty Peroni on tap so I was happy"
    dined on 27/09/2013
  • "Staff friendly and good location, food good although not amazing."
    dined on 18/09/2013
  • "We'd had a great experience when the place was Refottorio - the revised menu and decor is far lighter and brighter and still an excellent choice. Our waiter was excellent. We were there as colleagues but the venue would definitely suit a professional lunch, too."

  • "Went for a catch up dinner with one of my girls and found this restaurant on toptable due to the good location. We had a three course meal and a bottle of wine coming to £30 each after the 50% toptable discount. Because of this it was a really good deal, but otherwise it might be quite an expensive meal. The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. I would thoroughly recommend the crab spaghetti although I could have chosen most of the menu! There was a bar downstairs if you wanted to carry on and the location right next to blackfriars and the Thames is perfect!"
