Our greeting on entering was 'don't let them in unless they have booked ' Extremely slow service, food dumped in front of us without asking us if we would like any sauces. No one bothered to ask us if our meal was ok or asked if we would like any more drinks. We were offered the dessert menu while the remains of our main course was still getting even colder in front of us. I declined desert and asked for our bill. Unbelievably the server went away and started clearing empty tables. It was only when I caugh her eye she remembered my request. I don't mind paying good money for good food and service but for a famous restaurant in a famous part of London it was a disgrace

First impressions not good, I have never seen such dirty chairs, they are fabric covered and all need replacing. We ordered two steak sandwiched but got two salmons, and then were told the steak sandwich was not available on weekends although that was not mentioned on the menu. The table of 3 next to us, one person had to return her meal as it was cold, and when the replacement came, everyone else has finished their meals. I got the impression everything was a bit chaotic, I would not hurry back

We ate hear on a Sunday at 5.00 pm when the restaurant was virtually full. I ordered a burger and my wife wanted a roast. The choice according to the menu was chicken or beef but we were told that beef was not available. No matter, chicken it was but what turned up, one hour later, was very far from a roast. The chicken was grilled, not roasted, and there were no roast potatoes (replaced with packet mashed potato), no Yorkshire Pudding and no gravy. When we complained we were told that the waitress should not have taken the order as roasts were not available. The manager did her best and conjured up some Yorkshires and gravy. The burger was only average and the whole meal vastly over priced. Service was shockingly slow. Never again!

Very busy restaurant ( we ate at 15:30 on a Sunday ), but we were seated in a nice spot overlooking the yachts in the marina. Service was faultless and food was traditional pub grub. Nothing remarkable but The food was nice and enjoyable. wouldn't have any issues about eating here again. Overall a pleasant experience.

Had a lovely Sunday Lunch at a table overlooking the marina. There was a good choice on the menu, the food was very nice and a reasonable price for central London. A beautiful builiding with lots of atmosphere in a lovely setting. Pleased that I had booked and would definitely eat here again.

Good atmosphere in The Grill for a large group - we were 13 people. Service was good and burgers were great - however, we had starters so by the time we had the mains we were too full to eat the chips, which was a shame. Our fault though - eyes bigger than bellies!! Beer choices good - 8 out of 10 and raesonably good priced wine. Recommend

We booked the Dickens Inn because it is in such a beautiful setting overlooking St. Katharine's Dock. We ate at the Grill on the outside verandah and were taking friends from the USA who loved the setting. Food is very much pub grub although I had the salmon and it was delicious. Plenty of choices and a good wine list. If you want somewhere away from all the crowds then go here for lunch.

I booked a table at the Dickens Inn because I had a business dinner with an American colleague who I knew would like the ambience and also I knew the sound level would be quiet enough for comfortable discussion. I've eaten often at the pizzeria at lunchtime but felt that the grill might be better for an evening meal. The table was well situated with a view of Tower Bridge, if a little cramped. Service was fast with drinks taking less than 5 mins to arrive, starters taking maybe ten minutes and main course arriving as soon as we had finished the starter. The baked Camembert starter was excellent, although more bread would have been appreciated (but would probably have been supplied if asked for). The gammon steak with chips was perfect.

location is stunning and the interior matches. The food is excellent and the service very good. The only gripe are the prices. £53 for 2 main courses. What was so special about ham egg and chip and chicken Caesar salad and a bottle of wine to justify the price? The only answer is the location and they can get away with the prices....

This is a lovely venue overlooking st Katherine's dock and close to the Tower. Food reminded me of Brewers Fayre type but with a much higher price tag. While expect London to be dearer this was not good value and I enjoyed my Pret a manger lunch (£17 for 3 people) better than this (£226 inc 12.5% service for 5 including bottle of wine). Service was very good but won't be going back. Would just go to one of the chains of restaurants if in this area again.

The food here was ok, the restaurant itself not comfortable, i expected better. The 28 day mature rump was all gristle and not particularly good, the starter was good. The waiter brought us a second bottle of wine and poured it straight into glasses with wine from the first bottle, mixing bottles should be a no no. I would not book again

I was shocked by the state of the glasses which I sent back. Food was miserable and lacks quality. Ordered rib-eye steak mid-rear, but got a pathetic piece of meat shocking food for the overall price paid. Some staff members need regular customer service input as very much uninterested and frowning at customers who dare ask for decent services. The glasses are dreadful and cloudy.

It was my second time at Dickens Inn and unfortunately I have to say I was disappointed. I really don't like that you don't have any soft drinks menu, so we didn't know what to order and how much it cost. For meal we had burgers - got them exactly in five minutes. Fast service is good, but this was more like eat quickly and get out..and the staff seems the same to me. I fear that after this experience I won't come again.

On arrival we had a glass of wine in the downstairs bar and it was busy, but the atmosphere was great and the view over St Katherine's Dock was spectacular. The building itself is probably an old warehouse built with traditional wooden beams, which are well preserved and add to the buildings charming character. The Grill is on the top floor of the three story building and we were given a balcony table on request with no problem at all. Beautiful evening, beautiful view, excellent service and the food was absolutely superb. I eat the pork belly, which was served perfectly cooked. very tender and a lovely crispy crackling. My wife had a burger, which was extremely tasty and came with lovely, crispy fries. Absolutely recommended.

My boyfriend came to London for a little visit as I'm working there for the summer. After our visits, I decided to go to the Dickens Inn for our first romantic dinner out in London. The setting is beautiful - in st Katharine's docks, near the boats and with a view on Tower bridge. We loved that it was all in wood and with numerous flowers and our fish&chips was delicious !! We appreciated that the waiters were fast but perhaps a bit too much (in a hurry to take our order, not really smiling) A very good evening and meal, we recommend this restaurant !!

As part of a full day out in London, this dinner at the end of the day was an anti-climax. Despite there being very few people in the restaurant, we were offered a table in the middle (I'd specifically requested a window table). The table was dirty and smeared and there was food on the floor at our feet. The meals were lack-lustre. For such an iconic venue, I expected better.

We booked at 22:00, arrived on the dot and surprisingly we were pressured on ordering in a hurry because the kitchen was closing, that for 2 times, standing in the entrance and just sitting at the table with not very good manners. Apart from this, the quality of Grill meal was quite normal, nothing special... in the end we had to rush because the waiters began to clear up everythng. We didn`t leave by the time we arrived in order to be polite, although we felt like....really a pity for being our first dinner in London.

The Dickens grill is located in st Katherine's dock and the views are lovely. Food is ok, service is much better in the restaurant than the bar. My friend had to wait a long time to be served in the bar as the staff couldn't work out who was first and there wasn't even many people in there. When I went up and ordered for our group the bar man told me off for making changes to the order (to be fair a few people changed their mind between guiness and the dickens brew), I found this quite comical and asked him if he was going to tell me off again, which some other customers who witnessed it found funny but the bar man didn't. Put me off going back to be honest. That said the restaurant staff upstairs were extremely polite and helpful.

A good place for drinks, I would say skip the food, theres plenty of other places to eat around there. It let itself down for the following reasons; No childs menu, despite seeing a childs menu on the bar menu. I even asked if there was a childs menu at the bar and told no. Either they lied or didn't know. No check back. I appreciate it may occasionally get overlooked if its mega busy but on this occasion there were more staff than customers, so much so that waitresses were sitting down reading the paper. My glass was empty, waitress saw this but just walked off. If I want another drink I shouldn't have to hunt down a waitress. Plates remained on table for a while. Kitchen staff removed them in the end. Had to hunt a waitress for bill.

We came here on a bank holiday hoping to have a lovely pub lunch. We booked the upstairs Grill restaurant but the food was so poor it should have been served on the bottom floor of the pub. They were not serving the roasts because it was technically not a Sunday and we both struggled to find anything we wanted to order. My meal was awful - steak with fat chips, onion rings and a barely cooked tomato. We should have left before we ordered. We were the only people in the restaurant and now I know why!

Having finished a business meeting, we wanted an informal place to relax. The Dickens Inn I found when working for the Paralympics in 2012. and along with the whole of the St Katherine's Dock area, it is a little gem ! It is worth walking along the Thames passing Tower Bridge, to arrive at St Katherine's, as you enjoy the views of London from the Thames, and then enjoy the sight of the Yachts in the Dock as you approach The Dickens. Fortunate for us the Royal Barge, was moored there on our visit. The whole area is a "Buzz" and many restaurants to choose from, and 3 different levels within the Dickens Inn. We chose the Grill at the top having secured a window seat with a great view. The meal was very good, good value and perfect service.

Instead of the Pizza below (good!) I opted for the Grill this time, on the top floor but.... boy, was I wrong! The restaurant was empty (!), our table on the terrace with the cheap vinyl tablecloth was not adequately clean, the menu was very limited indeed, my "signature" burger was neither gourmet nor done to my liking (I was not asked, anyway) and at £15 rather greatly overpriced, as for the waitress, she could not work out what a side order of broccoli is and when she finally did, she served us carrots instead (mixed with very hard green beans) as there was no broccoli to begin with! Yes, the views are lovely but we would rather enjoy them from Starbucks in the future before we stroll down to Shad Thames to have a really delicious meal!
