  • "Went for a sunday lunch once and the food was amazing and the service very good too. However, went for diner this time and ordered a burger; I wasn't asked how I would like the meat cooked but ok. The waitress was not friendly at all although the other waiters were really nice."

  • "I went her with a group of about 12 for my birthday and it was a nice place. Mixed grill and steaks were lovelly as were the pate and Camembert starters. That said, the service wasn't great; veering between indifference and OCD levels of attentiveness. I'd go back though. The location on a summer evening is amazing and it's nice and central.."

  • "We had a pre-booked arrangement, for 22 teachers. The surroundings where quite amazing, passing Tower of London on our way to this lunch. Friendly servants met us,and we imediatley felt welcome."

  • "Went to the dickens with my Sister for an evening meal. Nothing wrong with food as far as standard pub food goes. Had sausage and mash, fine but not outstanding. Would never recommend to a foodie"

  • "Excellent ambience, the groupe enjoyed the food, very friendly and accurate service !! Thanks, we come back !"

  • "Great location overlooking St Katherine's dock, (try to get a window table) good food well cooked and good portions, friendly service."

  • "Booked for a group of 10 people for a 18th birthday dinner in the Grill , everything was ready for us and the service was quick and attentive . The food was very good value , lovely quality ,hot and cooked to order . The staff were all friendly and looked after us all night . Not a massive choice but enough to keep everyone happy and the price I paid for the whole evening was very good value .Would book again."

  • "We really enjoyed our meal here - service was great, chatty but not over the top. Amazing space and views, our table could see London bridge! Food was decent - good choice and well cooked.."

  • "The restaurant is situated in a beautiful area in the docks, however it was almost empty. There was no ambience. The menus were dirty and the food was awful, and it was served to us far too quickly. The staff, however, were lovely."

  • "The good thing about this place is the location and also the service. Food quality is just average."

  • "Lovely restaurant in a beautiful location. Great for group meetings. Staff were attentive and once we finished eating they did not try and get rid of us. We had plenty of time to unwind and just talk which was nice. Food was reasonsbly priced and of a satisfactory standard ."

  • "Excellent setting, easily able to cope with groups of varying size. Service was excellent from start to finish. Portion sizes were ample and good value for money. On this occasion had the pate, cajun salmon, sausage and mash and the cheesecake. All were very good. Definitely intend to go again."

  • "We had a great time, good service and the price was about right. Would recommend and we will visit again soon"

  • "What a fantastic place to go. Great location in the marina, wonderful old building, nice atmos, decent beer . . . sadly service was, how shall we say, idiosyncratic, and the food in the grill was no more than average. No vegetarian main courses as far as I could see, Next time, I'll meet my friends for beer, but will probably eat elsewhere."
    dined on 15/12/2013
  • "The Dickens Inn was as i expected. The food was o.k. nothing special. Service was good. Location is nice, next the the dock & view of Tower Bridge. You can have a drink in the pub first before going upstairs for your meal. This would be an ideal location in the summer"
    dined on 11/12/2013
  • "delicious steak, great atmosphere, river location. The deserts are missable, no imagination and nothing to stimulate the appetite to another course, dire."

  • "I'd been recommended Dickins grill by a friend when I asked if they knew of a good gastro pub in London. Expectations due to the recommendation may have influenced my opinion in the end. I would 't say this was a gastro pub exactly. The food was average - a nice enough burger, ok chips - fries, not homemade chips. My partner had a steak which was fine. I was still hungry afterwards. We'd done a 12 mile walk, it was mid afternoon, and we were ravenous. Maybe we should have gone for pizza or pasta instead. I felt like a dessert but they had a somewhat meagre choice and nothing appealed. Service and surroundings fine. Venue is very nice and cosy but probably best for Saturday afternoon beers."

  • "I find Dickins Inn as a perfect venue to catch up with friends. It has a number of great options, offers excellent value and I like the rustic 19th century decor. The service is friendly and good too. I would recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Steak was of fair quality, presentation ok, speed of service good overall a good experience, kids loved their burgers."

  • "We had just arrived and noticed a table outside. -"Can we sit outside?" Waiter-"No you can't book those tables its first come first served" -"There was an empty round table for five or six" Manager-"Those tables are booked" This is just a brief overview but felt like I was being shouted out by the waiter. Felt the staff were quite hostile. They tried to turn it around as we had a different waiter. She was nice but then we never saw her again. No one checked on us or got us anymore drinks. The roast is extremely over priced, very sub standard. Ive had a better roast at whetherspoons. We tried to pay but that was like trying to get blood out of a stone. We still tipped but not the full service charge because it simply wasn't good enough."

  • "I'm not one to complain, but was very disappointed when we came to dine on Sunday lunchtime. It was a special birthday treat that bought us to this restaurant, with it's wonderful surroundings, I was quite happy to pay for that fact, but was really disappointed when we were given our meals, we both chose the Beef Roast off of the Specials Board, so thought that this be a recommendation by the restaurant, it was one of the most expensive meals off the menu and so was expecting it to be something quite special, unfortunately it wasn't, the meal was cold and not good value for money at all, will not be returning, which is a shame!"

  • "I've been to The Grill (top floor) a couple of times now for lunch with a friend and it's a great place. It's not too busy and the tables are far enough apart that you can have privacy. Sitting outside on the balcony is great in reasonable weather (it's nicely sheltered). The food is above average although nothing special. The service is good in that they don't pester or rush you. I would recommend this place."

  • "Incredibly bizarre restaurant, we booked a table in the grill thinking that we could order a pizza as well from the pizzeria manue. However were told that we could only order one thing from the other menu as they were different kitchens....surely you have the same systems that send reciepts to each kitchen?! There was zero atmosphere in the restaurant, no music and there was a really irritating noise coming from fan in the kitchen. The food was fairly tasteless and the menu is in desperate need of updating, and prices are expensive for the quality of food provided. The staff were pleasant and very helpful. Overall I would not visit the restaurant again as, by London standards, it was very dated and old fashioned."
    dined on 27/09/2013
  • "Great location and view but decor old and dated and could do with a duster and polish!"
    dined on 22/09/2013
  • "We had excellent service and would definitely go there again. Our waiter was great and made the day."

  • "I came here with my family for my Dad's birthday. The food was yummy and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Our waiter was lovely as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "The dickens inn is great if want a massive selection of beer and beautiful location to drink both inside and out. We went to the grill for a traditional roast dinner and was very disappointed. The restaurant wasn't busy the food was dry over, cooked and expensive. One of our party had the chicken and mushroom pie it came in a ramekin very small and hardly any meat. The service was awful we had to stand up and put our coats on the get the bill and then we had to do this again to get their attention to pay. Go for a beer on a lovely sunny day but go somewhere else for food. Not worth the the money"

  • "Nice place for after works drinks and some food. Not too pricey"

  • "11 of us were booked for lunch. The first waiter who ordered the drinks was helpful, but overall the service was very slow and there was a bit of a language barrier with the waitress who just did not understand requests to slightly alter the dishes ordered to a point of frustration. We ordered Camembert sharing plates for starter which was good. Then it went downhill with the mains many of which arrived cold. We felt we did not want to send them back having already waited a long time for the food to arrive. In general the chips were very over cooked to the point were you couldn't get a fork in them. At gastro pub prices this is not good enough and not an experience that would get me rushing back or recommending to others."

  • "Spent an excellent evening at the Dickens Inn with family, (8 in total). The service was superb, food was fantastic and ambiance awesome. We will definitely be back even if it is a 700 mile round trip!"
    dined on 17/08/2013
  • "What a disappointment! Staff was looking uneasy, intimidated by an over jovial shift supervisor (?) and the waiter at the same time, who confuses friendliness with impudence. My Dickens Inn Chicken with chips (1/2 chicken on the menu) turned out to be missing a leg on the plate, possibly The Grill buys one legged chickens, it's a lottery which half will get on your plate. If you wish to dine in a nice friendly character place, stay downstairs. The Grill is an "eating place" where they want you to polish off the plate and go."

  • "We had reservation for 7pm. Phoned and asked for an extension due to rush hour travel delays. I was told no problem. We arrived at 7:40 was cancelled! We were given a table anyway. The restaurant was not very busy. Quality of food was not as good as we expected, wrong type of plate for serving steak! Although the service was good and I have no issues with paying gratuity, I do however, have objection to being asked to pay 12% for the service in the bill. Possibly, our first and last visit to Dickens for food."
    dined on 25/07/2013
  • "The food was all right, but the portions were very small. The small size of the steak was compensated with a larger fries. The ambience is great, the service was responsive (after a long warm up time) but I do not see why I should pay a 12.5% service charge."
    dined on 26/07/2013
  • "it was a lovely summer evening and the beer garden was heaving. We couldn't get an outdoors table, but the one we had by the window was just as good and the view on the docks made all the difference. Good food (my Sicilian burger was delicious) and the waitress went the extra mile to make sure our white wine was cooled to perfection."
    dined on 25/07/2013
  • "Lovely location. Good food at reasonable prices for the City. Service could have been better though - it wasn't that busy but there was only one person working and we kept having to attract their attention."
    dined on 23/07/2013
  • "Excellent venue, friendly staff, and first class food."
    dined on 21/07/2013
  • "The atmosphere on the terrace was very nice... especially, for dinner. We booked a table outside in the grill restaurant and the food was not good and the service was really bad as well. We got warm beer, the tuna salad was not very delicious and we cannot recommend the burger and the grill plate which was just a typical english breakfast. The waiter seemed to be completely tired and a bit confused."
    dined on 14/07/2013
  • "We were there celebrating a 90th Birthday. Staff made a real fuss of mum and made her birthday feel very special . Food was very good with a good choice. Service was friendly and we were not rushed at all. Lovely location and great weather and view really made us feel like we were on holiday! A great experience all round."
