A word from El Molino
El Molino has reigned as one of South East Londons' top tapas bars and restaurants since it opened in 1991. We offer a fantastic and authentic ‘Galician’ (northwest Spanish) cuisine in this corner of Beckenham. For over 19 years we've operated with a friendly atmosphere providing great service.
El Molino is a fully licensed restaurant and offers a fine selection of wines and beer. Relax and meet friends at our superb mirrored bar, while you savour a Tapas dish or two, or dine in the restaurant from our contemporary a la carte menu. We can also accommodate group bookings and El Molino will ensure there is no better place to enjoy that special event.

  • "Second visit, as/maybe better than the first time. Food is fantastic, authentic. ideal place for group bookings or just a few plates with a beer. Pardon peppers, mussels, meat balls, paella, bean stew, croquettes... amazing Going back again soon"

  • "Be transported to Spain instantly via the old style decor and styling. Enjoy very well made and consistent dishes from a well balanced and sizeable tapas menu. Friendly, fun atmosphere with really tasty food that always hits the mark. Always leave smiling with humble pricing and mouth full of good flavours! Try the oyster mushroom and chorizo, shark in garlic, fiery patatas bravas, amazing lamb cutlets, flamed padron peppers, Galician octopus, .....!!"

  • "Great meal again at our local in Beckenham, El Molinos. Super fast service, gorgeous tapas and very reasonable prices. Have and will keep recommending El Molinos to friends and family."
    dined on 04/07/2014
  • "This was a lovely surprise, the food was great, portion really good therefore made the price of the place really good. You are suddenly transported in Spain and you love it. Had a pitcher of sangria with my boyfriend to go with our meal and where really well impressed"
    dined on 28/06/2014
  • "This was the second time I have eaten here and I cannot wait for the third! This restaurant is the genuine article. Authentic, friendly and amazing, a small piece of Spain in our own backyard. The tapas is exceptional and their Paella better than most that I have had in Spain. Authentic Spainish beers too, this place is a great find!"
    dined on 07/06/2014
  • "Excellent food. Highlights were the lamb cutlets, pimentos de padron, chorizo in wine, garlic prawns. Calamari was disappointing but everting else was spot on. Nice house red wine. Love this place and am looking forward to going again."
    dined on 18/04/2014
  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our family tapas meal. Prices were reasonable, service very quick and there was a lovely atmosphere. There were a number of families dining for Mothers Day and all seemed to be enjoying themselves."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "Our daughter is a vegetarian but she eats some fish, El Molino's was fantastic because the range of fish and vegetable dishes outnumbered the meat options. Of the 9 tapas dishes we chose 7 were enjoyed by her and us, all dishes were freshly cooked, presentation and service was excellent. The bill for more than we could eat plus wine was a pleasant surprise and we will certainly go again."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "I have been going to this restaurant for some 4 years now and have never been disappointed. It is a warm, friendly, family run business, and the food range is vast and excellent. The portions are larger than many tapas restaurants, but the prices only of a local level, so you are not paying through the nose as you would for a shopping centre or high street restaurant. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes tapas."
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "El molino is not far from my house-so we have stopped by a few times for a drinks and some tapas after work. portions are good and its a nice relaxing authentic spanish. Recommend"
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "I have been going to El Molino for years and love how authentic the food is. The ambience is like you are in a real tapas bar in Spain, unlike so many of the other chain tapas restaurants. Service is quick and friendly. Highly recommended."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "A great range of tapas to choose from, mainly hot dishes but a few cold salads etc as well. We ordered three tapas per person to share which was about the right amount, and all were delicious! Couldn't fault a single dish and service was very prompt. Obviously a popular restaurant and it was pretty busy even though we were there mid-week so I imagine it gets busy at the weekends. There isn't a huge choice of wines but this only adds to the authentic feel of the restaurant. A great place which we will return to soon!"
    dined on 05/02/2014
  • "El Molino never fails to impress with the quality of the food and value for money."
    dined on 25/01/2014
  • "Wasn't my first visit and won't be my last a great little venue- which does a wide selection of tasty tapas dishes. Love the abondigas!. We sat at the bar this time having a few drinks and ordering a selection of tapas over the course of a few hours. Just very relaxing and just what we wanted after a long day at work"
    dined on 12/12/2013
  • "Lovely food, varied choice, value for money. A lovely little restaurant!"
    dined on 26/10/2013
  • "We chose this restaurant based on previous reviews and were not disappointed. There were only two people "front of house" but the service was quick and friendly even though the restaurant was fairly busy. The food arrived quickly and was hot and full of flavour. The atmosphere was reminiscent of our visit to a Tapas bar in Mallorca. We were encouraged to try our Spanish and I'm sure we got more fluent as the evening progressed (or was that the influence of the reasonably priced, good tasting house wine!). For four of us (8 tapas, 4 desserts, 4 beers and two bottles of wine), the price was just under £100 - bargain. All in all, a most enjoyable evening."
    dined on 26/10/2013
  • "The tip of place to meet friends for a meal. Most dishes are good, some great and a few not so much. Quite traditional menu and it doesn't really change. Atmosphere, look and feel is also traditional - bright lights and old style dark wooden furniture. Service is pretty good although one of the men serving can be a bit curt and has an odd sense of humour. There have been families with children both times we've been. Would probably go back but wouldn't rush."
    dined on 25/10/2013
  • "We enjoyed this family wecloming tapas - right near our house & we had never been until a friend who lives further away booked for a group of us to go. It's relaxed, not fancy service but delicious food & a lovely warm & welcoming atmosphere - and so affordable we will definitely return"
    dined on 25/10/2013
  • "El Molino has a very traditional feel - simple Spanish Tapas Bar, it has no airs and graces but the food is terrific. Very authentic and very good value. The sardines and whitebait we had were deliciously fresh and the asparagus never fails to please."
    dined on 05/10/2013
  • "Great food, lots of choice and caters well for vegetarian, pescatorians and meat eaters alike. Friendly, attentive service but not overbearing. A well stocked bar to help wash down all the lovely food too. What's not to like?"
    dined on 21/09/2013
  • "This was one of my first experiences of tapas and as they weren't too busy they were kind enough to let me order in batches so that I could feel my way through the menu. Very friendly service and excellent food."
    dined on 12/08/2013
  • "Good quality, sized portions and selection of Tapas. Easily as good as any we have tasted In the UK. Next time paella to share looked a must"
    dined on 06/07/2013
  • "We decided to go out for a meal at fairly short notice. The restauarant is easy to find and has excellent transport links.by train, tram or bus. The menu comprises from a large and varied selection of tapas -small Spanish dishes. we ordered 3 dishes each and this was more than enough. Food is excelllent. Wine is priced at typical restaurant prices £15+ a bottle."
    dined on 29/06/2013
  • "Good tapas, a friendly local restaurant. Portions very generous and a very nice house white rioja."
    dined on 25/06/2013
  • "Scruffy looking little restaurant in a scrfuffy part of Beckenham that I have passed by for years. Go inside and the old and tired decor adds to a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Bar and table service and child friendly. Great value and as good tapas as you will get in the UK. Nothing posh but then neither is tapas"
    dined on 15/06/2013
  • "Pimentos de padron, sardines, meatballs, Rioja red and white by the glass... Need I go on.. If you love tapas you will love el Molino... Great staff working very hard to keep everyone happy... Highly recommended."
    dined on 01/06/2013
  • "The restaurant was closed when we arrived on a confirmed OpenTable booking-this is the second time this has occurred at this restaurant. I contacted Open Table customer service and they have resolved the matter."
    dined on 01/04/2013
  • "Your booking system accepted and confirmed my booking for 6.30pm on a Sunday evening. Naively I drove three miles to the restaurant only to find that it was closed. This could easily have been avoided if your programme had shown that the restaurant was not open on Sundays. I have been to this restuarant before and found it to be excellent, shame the same thing can't be said for your booking system. I ticked outdoor eating because obviously I couldn't eat indoors."
    dined on 24/03/2013
  • "Found the staff incredibly helpful to a tapas novice. The food was excellent and great value. Would definitely go again."
    dined on 01/03/2013
  • "A great restaurant run by welcoming staff. Yummy food and good value."
    dined on 22/02/2013
  • "Top Table booked me in for a lunch on Sunday, for 6 people. We were excited to try it, and drove all the way there to find that the restaurant is simply CLOSED. How incredibly inconsiderate, to allow people to book, waste two hours getting there and being forced to find somewhere else at Sunday lunchtime. Appalling"
    dined on 17/02/2013
  • "I went to El Molino with 5 friends on 13/2/2013, 1 of our party had previously eaten there and had a good experience. The decor is quite old fashioned, but the owner was attentive. We opted for a set Tapas menu, which was very reasonable and also catered well for veggies and fish eaters. The food came promptly and was tasty and varied and we all thought good value for money. The wine was also as authentically spanish as the food and equally good value for money. You wouldn't necessary go there for the decor and the ambience, but the food is well worth a visit."
    dined on 13/02/2013
  • "El Molino is very local to me and it's a nice restaurant with a good selection of food. I've eaten here before and there always seems to be people in there - couples, families and groups of friends. The food was great during my visit last week and service is pretty quick, considering it seems to be only the owner who is running around doing everything! My only reason for marking down the ambience on this occasion is because it was freezing in the restaurant, there didn't seem to be any heating on at all - not pleasant when it was freezing outside too!"
    dined on 13/02/2013
  • "A good atmosphere, good food. Run by a friendly Spanish man and (I think) his son. The 2 of them worked their socks off and gave outstanding service. A really nice restaurant and we'll definitely go back."
    dined on 09/02/2013
  • "Very cheap and very authentic Spanish food. Everything we ordered was gorgeous! The set menu is very good value, as are the drinks. The service is quick, but could be a little bit more friendly."
    dined on 02/02/2013
  • "Great value great food friendly service. Excellent range of tasty tapas at good prices. Really fresh gambas with garlic delicious patatas brava and kidneys in sherry all delicious. We will be back."
    dined on 25/01/2013
  • "I'll be honest. I booked this place because it was my other half's birthday and he was hankering after Paella. After booking a Spanish restaurant with Paella close to home we thought we were onto a winner. Imagine our dismay when, ten mins after ordering, we were told the paella was "off". Saddened, we were told we could order the "tapas paella" alongside other dishes. We asked if we could not have this as a main, to be told that wasn't possible. We trudged through the menu and made an alternate order - including the "tapas paella". Before the food arrived, the manager came over to apologise for the lack of paella, telling us that "it took too long to cook"! This was at 8pm on a Saturday night! Don't offer it if you don't want to cook it!"
    dined on 20/10/2012
  • "Another fantastic evening, been several times. Food, service and value for money is outstanding. Our group has already booked to go again."
    dined on 20/10/2012
  • "I went to El Molino's to celebrate a special occasion. We ordered a range of tapas, all of which were delicious and authentically Spanish. I would recommend it!"
