A word from Elliot's
Elliot’s is located in London's Borough Market. We aim to work closely with the market traders in offering a menu which directly reflects the range of produce you will find available on any particular day. Our dishes are generally based around one or two central ingredients and we encourage guests to share dishes as they arrive at the table. We offer a mixture of familiar and unusual wines from small vineyards with a particular interest in the organic, bio-dynamic and natural approach. In addition to this we offer cider from the New Forest and beers from a range of London based small scale brewers.Continued

  • "Absolutely delicious. I've wanted to try Elliot's for a while and am so glad I did. Dishes were creative and tasty and the staff helped us choose a couple of nice glasses of wine. Only small criticism would be that the staff didn't seem to be too pleased to see us at first and it felt like we were imposing on them a bit on their time when asking about the menu. Would definitely recommend and will return."

  • "We visited Elliot's on Wednesday night and had a booking for 8:15 pm. We were seated right away and ordered within 15 mins. As it's a tapas restaurant understandably we got the food as it was made but we had asked for two dishes (chicken and tuna) to come together as the chicken took 30 mins to cook. While we received some of our food within 45 mins unfortunately the last two pieces came at 10:15 which meant we were waiting for a long time for the 'main' food. Overall the food was fine but the tuna and chicken weren't great. I would recommend it if you have a lot of time to eat!"

  • "The atmosphere was extremely inviting with a golden ambient glow over everything. It immediately felt as though we were eating somewhere where the quality of the food was important. The staff were extremely knowledgable and friendly and as we deliberated the wine choice, made suggestions and offered tastings. Overall the food was beautifully cooked but as a group we felt some dishes were extremely expensive. The roast chicken was packed with flavour, moist and delicious as was the Ox tongue but I felt let down by my plaice which was a very small portion and not a fillet so at £12 left me with what felt like a brief taste. Thoroughly enjoyed the Wigmore and the roast potato sides were cooked to perfection. I would visit again for lunch."

  • "I had lunch at Elliot's with a friend. It was a sunny day and the table I was given first was in the sun, after a few minutes it was too hot and I asked to be move to one in the shade, this was done as requested. It was my first time and I liked the variety in the menu, every dish seemed to have something interesting and special about it. Overall the food was very good, the service attentive and relaxed. The only negative is, it felt a bit slow. I'll definitely go back and I recommend it."

Great to meet friends but lacks the formality for the "power" lunch with clients. Highly recommended in an area that promises more on the restaurant front, than it delivers."

  • "I met a business contact for an informal breakfast. Lovely bread for toast, with really nice preserves, smashing pastries and splendid coffee. Table service a little 'haphazard' but friendly and welcoming so no discomfort - however if you expect 'proper, formal' service this may be a bit casual for you. There aren't many easy to book cafe/restaurants in Borough Market despite there being lots of lovely places for a casual 'impromptu' drop in so of the options bookable via Opentable, this is one I'll use again definitely "

  • "Elliot's was a great place to have dinner. The staff was very nice and took the time to answer every question you might have about the food. The food was delicious, fresh, simply great. The opportunity to order several small dishes and share them with someone else is great, you truly experience having dinner together. Furthermore, it is wonderful Elliot's do their groceries at borough market, giving it a local touch. "

  • "I'm programmed so that small things will detract me from enjoying the full picture. So when I ask the waitress if the entrance door can be closed (as I have cold wind gushing down my spine) and she responds "you'll have to ask the boss", and same waitress brings us some bread (which was tasty) even though we said we didn't want it, I am hard pressed to enjoy my burger, which was good but not fantastic (as the burger craze smoulders on, we gradually become burger-blasé). The rest of the menu seemed fine, and the ales on tap are tasty. But come on guys, a little effort and friendly wenches won't hurt."

  • "We bounced in with under an hour to eat before heading to the Globe, and our serving person understood this and reacted to it, bringing delicious unfiltered pints from Camden Brewery and small plates of delicious items at top speed. We ate dived scallop, excellent bread, purple sprouting broccoli with bagna cauda, sea bass and beans and all were delicious. The only thing that slightly marred the atmosphere was the insistent throb of deep bass, which wasn't needed as the place was buzzy enough without. If you need a handy spot after Borough market visits, this is a very good one."

  • "I love Elliot's and have been three times now, with my fourth visit approaching this weekend. Unlike other places nearby (Brindisa *cough*) you can book a table so there's no hanging around waiting. The vegetarian options are great and so is the wine list. The service has always been very good when I've been. And they have nice Cowshed products in the loos. It is a little on the wee side so I wouldn't recommend it as a place to go if you need to have a serious, private conversation. But you probably shouldn't do that in a restaurant anyway."

  • "They're bright & friendly in Elliot's. They keep topping up your water, which I like. The food is interesting & delicious. My one gripe is that you're encouraged to choose several plates & share around the table but then find that the plates are hopelessly ill-suited to sharing. We cut the crab-on-toast into four but it was a mess. The haunch of deer was in three slices, for our table of four, so we absurdly cut two in half & the last into quarters. We each politely took less than we wanted of the six dishes & desserts & yet none of us left well-stuffed with food, which is perhaps a good thing. Go with good friends & expect messy sharing of good food (& germs) or ignore the sharing plates thing altogether & enjoy you own meal."

  • "Attracted by the burger reviews and decided to try it even thought they don't serve burgers in the evening. The menu is small, normally something I applaud, but there was only one main course I could eat alone as everything else was steaks for 2 or more people and my partner a) didn't want a steak and b) if she did she likes her steaks well done and I like mine rare. She was left trying to find small plates she liked and they weren't going to make a meal. It was going to cost over £100 inc wine if we only eat one course and we would be eating what we were told, not what we want."

  • "Met a friend for a quick lunch, service was engaging with no visible grumbles when we skipped starters and alcohol and went straight for the mains. We both went with the burger (waiter recommended) and enjoyed them a lot - I've had one or two better in London but with a good burger being almost ten a penny this was one of the better ones. The rest of the menu looks appealing so I will be back soon and recommend to all."

  • "The menu is ambitious but unfortunately they don't pull it off. My starter was a cheese soufflé which was excellent and floating on a delicious cheese sauce, my partners starter was a huge salad which was tasty. The main courses however were expensive and not very good. I had a pork leg chop which was extremely fatty and not to my taste. Coupled with crackling and more lumps of fat on the plate, it was a coronary dream if you like that sort of thing. The pork lacked flavour, all in all very disappointing. The wine list is interesting but the wine we choose which equally wasn't cheap in price was rather poor quality. We skipped dessert, a house rule, if the other courses don't live up to our expectations we call it a day."

  • "On the positive side: • The food is good quality. • The ingredients are different and some unknowns which is refreshing. • The cooking is inventive and obviously skilled. • friendly service What did not impress: • the expense: £8 for each small plate and the waiter said each person would need at least 3, so that equates to £24 for a main. My dinner cost £30 for a few small plates, bread & coffee, no wine. • the noise: it is a small room that quickly gets filled with noise so you can't hear your friends. In the end it felt uncomfortable, we had to strain to hear each other, and couldn't relax and talk. • the wines: we tried about 5 wines, and didn't like any of them. • it's the type of place with 2 hour sittings, so you can't relax."

  • "2nd time at Elliot's and it didn't disappoint. Were concerned we might be rushed through as our booking as for 6.30 and it is just before Christmas. We weren't and we enjoyed a leisurely meal served by attentive staff. Started with a Hanky Panky cocktail, deliciously grown up! Basket of freshly baked bread was brought to the table whilst we waited for our "small plates". All our food was well presented and also delicious. The "small plates" or starters can be shared and could be ordered like tapas - some sounded quite filling! The loin of lamb was gorgeous as was my honeycomb ice cream with espresso and ginger biscuit. The food is sourced from Borough Market which means a constantly changing menu. Good to see a menu that's not too long."

The staff get better and better with each visit I've made there, the service is informal but very helpful and friendly. Elliot's has a lot of character and being in borough market makes it feel very London and very interesting. A great place to take people from out of town."
