A word from Fish!
Fish! restaurant in the heart of Borough market, does what it says – providing the very best fish available in London to hungry customers.

Established in 1999, restaurateur Tony Allan had a vision to transform the old 18th century Pea Shelling Warehouse into a fish restaurant. The rich browns deep oranges achieve a stylist, sleek and modern touch. The airy interior encompasses the open kitchen where diners can watch the chefs at work.

The restaurant opens out onto a large terrace, which is open all year and sits in the heart of Borough weekend market, with views of Southwark Cathedral.

We consistently supply fresh, reliably sourced and where possible sustainable fish, simply prepared and fairly priced to our customers. All of the fish we serve is prepared daily at our own long established fishmonger, Jarvis.

Diner Reviews
  • "Always wanted to have a meal at this restaurant and finally got round to it for a birthday lunch with my wife and children. We arrived to find it absolutely packed and buzzing with diners. It was a great atmosphere, what you would hope for on a bank holiday weekend in Borough market. The waiter was extremely pleasant and helpful and we didn't feel under any pressure to order quickly. The food was served promptly and was definitely worth waiting for. I was somewhat disappointed they had run out of rock, however the cod was delicious. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back."

  • "Second time at fish. The service is good. Very friendly staff. Now, when you go fish you want something special that you don't eat home. I went there because of the fresh fish. Mussels were not very fresh, but after a complain they tuk them of the bill. The sea bass was fabulos, but the portion a bit small. I would reccomand the place to friends though. It is a mix of Italian and english cuisine"

  • "Although the restaurant was quiet, the service was first class, attentive and efficient, and food was excellent. "

  • "I found the food very good but it was a bit overpriced, overall a good experience but be prepared to spend a little bit extra!"

  • "If you love fish, this is the place for you. The quality of the fish is excellent and wide-ranging. Grilled fish is particularly delicious. There are also plenty of places for individual eaters at the bar. I love the fact that it is like an aquarium in that the restaurant has a glass roof and sides. There is one potential disadvantage: Fish gets very, very crowded at the weekend and the tables are very close together. This doesn't affect the service because the waiters work extremely hard only it does make it very noisy. So don't take anyone there with tinnitus!"

  • "The lobster and frites on the days specials menu was great, well prepared and very tasty. The place gets very noisy as it gets busier and the tables are very close together, I'd recommend an earlier sitting if you want to be able to chat!"

  • "I came here with a friend and we both had the haddock and chips, which was melt in the mouth delicious. Both of us wiped our plates clean. I will be back for more and definitely recommend to others."

  • "We met friends in London and took our 3 children aged 3 and 4 years old for a trip to the theatre in the morning followed by lunch at Fish afterwards. Fish is situated right in the middle of borough market, and being a Saturday it was packed, but going to fish! enabled us to experience the buzz of the market in comfort ( and safety - kids!) from the interior of the lovely glass restaurant. The food was good, we all had fish and chips, with perfectly cooked crispy chips and juicy fish in light crispy batter. The children's menu was great value, the fish fingers are chunks of fresh fish coated in breadcrumbs, and juice and dessert are included. The wine we chose was delicious but a bit pricey. Overall we had a relaxed and enjoyable experience"

  • "Came here with my family for my husbands birthday. He had the lobster which he said was ok, I had the beer batter halibut which we both thought was really tasty. The service and overall experience was good. The only let down was the kids meal of fish fingers and chips, both my children didn't like it I tasted it and it was quite oily. Will go again definitely to try out the rest of the menu. Will order a different choice for the kids next time. Fish! is definitely worth trying."

  • "I made a reservation for my partner and I to meet her parents. Between the fine quality table-side manners displayed by the staff, the wine selection, the daily specials, and the grilled sardines, an amazing first impression was made. While it was a little bit loud (I suspect due to the architecture of the building and new wait-staff having clumsy hands) the night was an overall success -- and a delicious one at that!"

  • "Great food! Wide selection of choice, and was able to offer alternatives for dietary requirements. Great service. Highly recommended. servings are ample!!!"

  • "Had heard wonderful things and was expecting a really lovely dinner but it was only ok. Had whitebait and bread for starters which was fine. WE both had fish & chips which was average at best. The chips came out and were pretty scarce and also just a plate full of end bits, No nice big chunky chips. We did ask the waiter if we could get fresh chunky chips and they were really lovely, brought two and didn't charge us for our drinks at the end so great service. Maybe it was just a bad night!"

  • "Service a little too attentive and so many different service personnel - difficult to know how to tip but that is covered in service charge which I hope goes to staff"

  • "Not the place for a quiet lunch but lively, bustling, yes a bit noisy even; so relaxed and fun with the entertainment of the open kitchen drama making inside better than out except on a blazing day. Great menu, ticking all the right conservation boxes, making choice quite hard. Excellent 'raw materials' not just the fish but nice touches like the bread from across the road in the Market. Just a shade disappointed with actual cooking - but could have been my selection; cream sauce for the moules a little thinner than I'm used to but good flavour and superb plump mussels."

  • "Good fish selection as per the name of the restaurant. Good size portions and delicious fish, busy restaurant, very friendly staff and great location"

  • "Went there for a celebration dinner. Great menu, good choice of fish, large portions (huge soup starter!), well cooked. My swordfish club sandwich was great - really different with tasty salmon 'bacon'. Quite noisy in the glass room, but not to the extent it was a problem; friendly and helpful service adn a decent wine list."

  • "Disappointing and not good value compared with other specialist fish restaurants elsewhere in London."

  • "We went because I had walked passed it many times, we love fish and their promise is organic fish. It lived up to its promise. They had run out of sardines so we had whitebait, we watched them prepare the fish on charcoal burners then our two excellent lemon sole arrived. They were heaven. I couldn't finish mine! Salad also lovely fresh leaves delicate dressing, reasonably priced wine. All brilliant! We were too full for pudding. Staff very attentive but not overly so."

  • "I ordered cod, my wife haddock. While she enjoyed the haddock, my wife thought the cod looked nicer. I was really pleased with my choice - the fish was cooked just right - just like flaky steak. Batter light and crispy. Chips fab too. Mushy peas tasted good but were a bit cold. Bread and butter just what we expected and a good accompaniment to the fish and chips. The pudding - chocolate fondant - was disappointing as it was stodgy. The cost was a bit high - £50 instead of £56 would have been fairer. We had a bit of a wait for service despite there being several waiters about and hardly any tables occupied. It was my birthday when we visited (Friday 28th February at 5pm) and I felt I celebrated in style. All in all, good stuff."

  • "Food was very good, restaurant had a great buzz at lunch. Service was attentive, have been for lunch several times and have never been disappointed."

  • "The staff were polite and extremely accommodating. Ut was a pleasant late lunch. Over all the food was good. Nothing spectacular or mind blowing. I had the fish pre which was more potato than fish. My partner had grilled salmon. It was a bit greasy considering it was supposed to be grilled as were the tossed vegetables. Unfortunately there was a hair in my food bit the manager did not argue, he took the the dish a replaced it without any fuss, apologised profusely and did not charge me for my dish. The restaurant is all glass with an open kitchen in the centre which is nice. Overall I can't complain and would go there again some day."

  • "Went to fish with a friend for lunch on a Friday. The food was a little overpriced for what it was, but the location is great, the service friendly and dining room lovely."

  • "This is a restaurant that has a really extensive range of fish. They steam and grill any variety and also provide varieties battered and with sauces. The ambience is excellent. I like the all round glass, the view of Southwark Cathedral, being in Borough Market and the sound of the trains going overhead into London Bridge station. During the better weather, you can sit outside. On this occasion the service was excellent. The one negative is the wine. Far too expensive for a house."

  • "Their halibut and chips is usually very good. However, once before, I was served with two small end cuts, which were very dry. On the current occasion two people wanted this dish and I asked the waitress to assure me that we would be served with single pieces. She told me that this was ALWAYS the case; I said that it had not been my experience. When served we both had two small end pieces and I complained. The waitress blamed the chef when it was her fault. Her manner was abrupt but she offered to replace which we rejected as they were so slow and (sure enough) the fish was dried out. Subsequently she also got the dessert order wrong. The head waiter also blamed the chef, but reduced the bill. Spoilt the evening."

  • "Have been to this restaurant many times for both lunch and dinner. Lovely location overlooking cathedral and market. Whilst it isn't a cheap meal once you factor in wine and sides, food and service are always good. Would defintely recommend"

  • "Waiter was too busy, wouldn't leave us alone. This place is becoming like a mid range busy Fish and Chip shop.Very expensive"

  • "Calamari were nice, the grilled squid was hard and chewy, the cous cous filing of the pepper was a bit soggy and too sweet (with raisings and not much else for dressing...)...It was my first and only time, so I might have been unlucky..."

  • "The food was amazing, staff friendly but for 2 courses and some wine out bill came to £56 per head which is a little pricey!"

  • "We went to Fish for a valentines day evening meal. The table service was very good with staff attentive and polite despite it being a very busy evening. The food was good but considering the cost not excellent. You can spend an equivalent amount at a Michelin class restaurant and have a higher quality of food. The location is good and I think that is where the additional cost comes in. The venue itself is ok, I imagine it is much nicer in summer but does bear a high resemblance to a greenhouse. The menu is varied with lots of fish options and some meat and vegetarian options. Overall an ok restaurant, well placed, good fish dishes but not competitive compared to Michelin star restaurants at the meal price ."

  • "The 'Classic' prawn cocktail was ordinary; the Fritto Misto was a mess of deep-fried fish bits that seemed to be mainly whitebait. My halibut was good, though, as was the seafood salad starter and the desserts. Fish! is a place I have been using for some years and would often go to celebrate a birthday, but now, with so many people opting for the battered fish, it looks like it has become just a posh chippie. Our waiter went missing and after 20 minutes we had to ask another waitress for the dessert menu."

  • "I sent this directly to Fish the morning after - and received no reply!! (Didn't surprise me!!) Dear Fish, It is about 5 years since I visited your restaurant, as I used to work in the London Bridge area, and always felt in the past that Fish was good value and good food. We (4 of us) ate in your restaurant last night, and I feel that we were completely 'ripped of'!! The bill for 4 for dried up fish pie (with very little fish I might add) , a less than average bottle of wine, not a spectacular pud, luke warm coffee was £180!! Even at half that price it would have been expensive. I would normally complain at the time, but it was a birthday treat and not a time to make a scene. So I am complaining now! And want a 50% refund now!!!"

  • "Nice atmosphere, good service and decent food. All this was overshadowed by the intimidating price list. Wine was expensive, paid £25 for a bottle worth about £5. You can get a lot more for your money elsewhere"

  • "I had been looking forward to eating at Fish! for a number of years so it was great finally get round to booking a table on Valentines. My girlfriend and I arrived at what we thought was our time slot of 7.30. The pregnant receptionist then rudely spluttered at me that I was wrong and that my time slot was 7pm.. I then politely explained that there must have been a mix up to which she then decided to bark back that I was wrong. It may be one of the busiest time of the year but there is no need to forget who the customer is and there was also no need for the attitude as there were a number of empty tables that were then subsequently taken by non-reservations. Once we sat down the service from the other waitresses was great."

  • "Great food and service. Service charge was high at 12.5%. Two days on, I have a wild fever and have been vomiting all night. I rarely become ill, hopefully it's not linked to our great experience at Fish Kitchen."
