A word from Fish!
Fish! restaurant in the heart of Borough market, does what it says – providing the very best fish available in London to hungry customers.

Established in 1999, restaurateur Tony Allan had a vision to transform the old 18th century Pea Shelling Warehouse into a fish restaurant. The rich browns deep oranges achieve a stylist, sleek and modern touch. The airy interior encompasses the open kitchen where diners can watch the chefs at work.

The restaurant opens out onto a large terrace, which is open all year and sits in the heart of Borough weekend market, with views of Southwark Cathedral.

We consistently supply fresh, reliably sourced and where possible sustainable fish, simply prepared and fairly priced to our customers. All of the fish we serve is prepared daily at our own long established fishmonger, Jarvis.

I have long looked forward to visiting fish! and was impressed by their array of options on the menu. My colleague order the tuna nicoise which looked delicious and was a healthy portion. I however opted for the swordish. Not only was the 'vegetable garnish' simply raw cabbage, but the swordfish was burnt. it had clearly been left on the grill too long and the flavour of carbon overpowered the entire fillet. My other colleague ordered the swordfish 'BLT' which was huge, but mainly bread and little fish. The service was incredibly slow. it took us 40 mins between asking for the bill and paying for it. but the waiters were very friendly

Our server was visibly irritated by our not ordering alcoholic drinks, we were actually interested in ordering non-alcohol beverages, but she left in a huff. She was in a hurry to get the main course orders when she returned. She was mildly rude, but I was entertaining guests so and did not want to complain and make a bad situation worse. The restaurant was almost completely empty when we arrived at 6:00 on a Sunday, so she was not overworked. Fish! had decent food, but the irritated waitress absolutely ruined any pleasure of the meal. Fish includes an 18% gratuity on all bills. I can only conclude, my server didn't care. If you do, choose your server carefully or go somewhere else..

Food and service were good - I had the smoked haddock rarebit, grilled skate wing followed by chocolate fondant. Service was friendly and relaxed. Some extreme jetwashing for an extended period of time outside the restaurant made it hard to talk to my companions without shouting. Something that needs to be addressed to ensure the al fresco dining option is not spoiled. The outside area is more casual and relaxed than in the main restaurant.

Came as has previously been good to celebrate a birthday. Service adequate. Larger quantity of vegetables with main than the description 'garnish' would warrant, but all sadly undercooked. Side orders forgotten until we reminded waitress. The fish was good but was cooling when received and sauce had congealed. Outdoor heating kept being switched on and off. Will not be so keen to return.

Lobster was on offer on the specials menu so we had to have it; good size for the uk and very tasty in garlic butter. Chips had an identity crisis, neither "chip shop floppy" nor gastro crisp and fluffy...sort of in between. Ambience loses out, as other people have said, it's noisy. Staff were good and service efficient even though it was packed. On a table for two there's not much room to manoeuvre, to fit the mains, one bowl of salad and finger bowls on to the table, our carafe was drained into the glasses; the chip bowls went onto the side plates. Nowhere for waste shell so a bit of a juggle around the plate. I had a "slippery little suckers moment" with the crackers and a leg joint; fortunately it hit the floor and not anyone else !

Went for a Saturday lunch as a group of two families with small children. We had booked an early time as outdoor seating is allocated on a first come first served basis, and were sitting outside which was very pleasant amidst the buzz of Borough market. We all had delicious grilled fish - sardines, the daily catch - and the massive swordfish burger which was very filling.

We had battered fish, chips and mushy peas, which were perfectly good but far from the best I've ever had and very expensive. Dessert was OK, but just OK. I was, however, impressed by the service and location, and by the menu, and would like to try this restaurant again, perhaps choosing a simple grilled fish dish next time. It's so hard to get good fish in central London, and certainly not the choice of fish on offer in this restaurant. would not, however recommend this restaurant to a friend at this point.

We went on a sunny Monday afternoon and sat outside. It was a lovely atmosphere and the service was good although we had to ask 3 times for the bill as she forgot to bring it to us. It was quite busy but not full and I was disappointed that over half of the fish choices were not available. The food we had was lovely though.

Ate here on Saturday 26th July, as a treat for my partner's birthday. We both enjoyed the Thai fish cakes, I had the skate wing which was lovely & beautifully cooked which is why I rated the food as good, it is doesn't mention coming with a little veg. If had known wouldn't have ordered the spinach at £4.50 for a small bowl!. My partner had cod chips and mushy peas which we felt was overpriced at £16.50, especially as the portion of fish he had was to say the least small. We sat outside & whilst I appreciate that smoking is allowed outside, the tables are close together and the two inconsiderate smokers two tables away continued to puff away whilst we were eating which was not pleasant. I would not recommend and will not be returning.

We had an amazing lunch at Fish! The day was quite perfect and the food was deliciously fresh and tasty. The only upset was my partner being covered in a glass of water that was knocked over! All accidental. We shall return. It isn't cheap, but doesn't pretend to be in any of its reviews. The food was outstanding. Thank you.

Dishes are good relatively simple and plain fare (none the worse for that where seafood is concerned) but very costly for what you get (even the ‘large’ whitebait starter was a miserable portion). Outside eating in good weather great fun and the unfussy service and atmosphere is relaxing but the 12.5% automatic service charge is, as ever, a disgraceful cheek. Fun but for special occasions only at this price. Then again location location lets them get away with it.

    Dined on 11/7/2014
With a half to three quarter full restaurant you are likely to lose your voice during a meal. If this is your idea of fun, then Fish will rate very high. For me, it was a perfectly horrendous experience. Shouting to the person across the table is hardly a way to enjoy any social intercourse other than abusive tirades or bigotry exhibitions. Anybody with a bit of brains would realize that glass walls, tiled floors and a largely glass ceilings will generate an accoustic nightmare. The open kitchen adds whatever unnecessary noise missing. In such an environment, reasonable food and service become palliatives to an otherwise unpleasant experience. Piped music should not be added to the equation.

I had been a few years ago, and had been very impressed, but felt very differently this time. I had fish and chips, and although the fish was cooked quite nicely, there were a handful of rubbish chips, and bland mushy peas. My local fish and chip shop is far superior! Also very expensive for what we had. Lovely view of Southwark cathedral, and nice brownie and fresh mint tea though!!

This is a great restaurant and the food is superb. It is not the cheapest place to eat - as it caters to a lot of tourists - so tourist prices so you pay the tourist prices. However, the food is of a very good quality and this is reflected in some of the more pricier dishes. We live fairly local and go at least once per month and I would recommend anyone to give it a try!

We had heard good things about Fish and as it was our anniversary and my girlfriend loves seafood I thought this would be a good choice. Things did not start off auspiciously when the head waitress wasn't able to recognize my name despite repeatedly pronouncing it, and wasn't able to locate me even though I had reserved a table. My girlfriend wanted a table by the window but the ones left were tables of four and we were two people. However, the two courses we had were prepared speedily and were wonderfully fresh and full of flavor. The recommended pinot was good too so all in all we were really impressed by the quality of food.

Walked past this restaurant many times but never eaten there. The waiter recommended Halibut and it was excellent. Found the atmosphere outside a bit grim (smokey, a bit grubby and strong smells from the market) but pleasant once we moved inside. Very much enjoyed the meal, the service was friendly without being over the top and the overall experience was a good one. Would definitely eat there again. Only real gripe was the pricing. £60 for fish and chips twice and a 2 small glasses of wine felt a bit rich.
