Diner Reviews
  • "Vegetarian food that will change how you think about meat-free meals. So packed full flavour and textures that you won't even notice the absence of meat. It's not cheap but it's worth it for the quality of the food."

  • "Had a wonderful lunch at Food for Friends. I am 8 months pregnant so was worried we might be seated in a cramp place, but we were given a lovely table with plenty of space. Service was polite, friendly and relaxing. Food was extremely tasty and well presented, particularly the fig and smoked cheese salad. They were also. They were also very accommodating in swopping some food - pine nuts were taken out at my request and the fresh mayo changed (due to pregnancy) to another sauce. Would highly recommend."

  • "Went here with my mum and dad for my birthday- my dad was a bit nervous about how 'posh' it might be and whether he'd miss meat. Well the staff were warm, down-to-earth and couldnt have been sweeter nor more helpful. They made us all feel very at ease, especially when I couldnt pronounce the wine I wanted!! My dad cleared his plate and thought the food was brilliant. We havent stopped talking about our fantastic evening. Thank you all so very much (and a huge thank you to the lady who ran after us and gave my mum back her scarf!)"

  • "This was my first time eating inside a vegetarian restaurant at 25 years old, something I would never have imagined doing 3/4 years ago. The food was excellent and at no point do you question the lack of meat. Indeed these dishes are not designed like many vegetarian options in pubs/restaurants to merely provide the same meal but substitute the meat for a veg option, these were carefully crafted meals put together with fine quality ingredients, i would paritcularly recommend a helping to the triple cooked sweet potato chips along side any main course."

  • "We had a fantastic Sunday lunch, it is a great place to eat."

  • "We had one meal here before and really enjoyed it. But this time, it was disappointing, We waited ages to be seated and were then given the worst table before we asked to be moved. The cocktails were nice, but it went downhill from there. Mezze was tasteless except for 1 single tiny stuffed chilli. My pasta was quite tough - more al cardboard than al dente - and my partner's entree was no better. All the food was drastically under-seasoned. I am a veggie and use very little salt in cooking but even so, there was no real flavour. We skipped dessert. The £80 bill seemed OTT for a fairly poor experience. We walked back past 64 Degrees which was much more exciting for veggies for the same price. Back to there or Terre a Terre next time."

  • " We're not vegatarian but we love the food at Food for Friends."

  • "Waited 25 minutes for a booked table. Ignored by staff, not even an apology or 'would you like a drink whilst waiting?' Nil communication. Nil points."
    dined on 16/08/2014
  • "Very welcoming, excellent service and food was very tasty."
    dined on 15/08/2014
  • "relaxed, contemporary ambience and friendly staff. Wonderful choice of veggie options; I spent ages choosing. Fig and ricotta salad had an exquisite mix of flavours, and I couldn't fault the delicious baked aubergine. I finished with a lovely raspberry cheesecake. I don't like restaurants adding the 'optional service charge' to the bill for you but otherwise no complaints at all; great evening"
    dined on 10/08/2014
  • "I was disappointed. It was not very clean, especially the loos, there was no atmosphere and some of the staff tried hard but the overall feel was a little cold - like my cocktail, all a bit flat."
    dined on 09/08/2014
  • "Food for Friends serves sophisticated and beautiful vegetarian and vegan food - yet it would undoubtedly be a winner with even the most stalwart of carnivores. Great service, value for money and ambiance. A must-visit."
    dined on 06/08/2014
  • "6 of us had lunch here for a family get together. There was a kids menu and staff were very accommodating to requests. The reasonably priced non-alcoholic cocktails made them feel like it was a special occasion without it costing the earth. Food and service, as always, was fabulous. We didn't have desert as the sun was shining and an ice-cream on the beach was too tempting but they looked delicious! Such a great restaurant. Always look forward to going back."
    dined on 04/08/2014
  • "The food was well presented and delicious. The menu had a choice of al la carte or a set menu but we chose off the menu. The chocolate sharing plate was excellent value for money and was lush! Will return next time I'm in Brighton."
    dined on 03/08/2014
  • "This was the best meal out we have enjoyed for years. The flavours were sublime, service excellent, price very reasonable. Who needs meat when veggie can taste like this? Oh- I'm and not a vegetarian!"
    dined on 02/08/2014
  • "This was our 2nd visit. On our 1st visit we were totally bowled over by the sheer quality, variety and imaginative, excellently cooked vegetarian food. I'm not sure we chose as well on this visit, but there seemed less choice. Overall, we had delicious food but felt it was a little overpriced. Our table was quite small and wasn't quite so private this time so the ambiance felt a little less special. It was unfortunate that our 2nd experience here wasn't as awesome as our first but then maybe i'm nitpicking? !! Would thoroughly recommend - their food far outshines most things I've eaten ! My partner is (sadly) a carnivore and even he loves eating here!"
    dined on 29/07/2014
  • "Thoroughly enjoyed my meal with two friends but dont go if your in a hurry, we were there 3 hours. the staff are great, very friendly and recommended a lovely vegan pudding. They served us the wrong starter but were very apologetic and let us have both starters and continued to apologise all night and offered a free tea or coffee after our meal"
    dined on 29/07/2014
  • "Our meal was overall above average: we ordered from the set menu, the food was excellent, the service friendly. It's very unfortunate that, once the mains had arrived, my mother found a 10cm-long grey bird feather dressed with her spinach. The dish had to be removed from the table and was not replaced. Accidents can happen to the best of kitchens. However, I was disappointed that the manager only offered a complementary dessert - considering we'd planned to have the set menu anyways and that we were then charged full price for the other dishes, we basically spent the same amount. Not much of a compensation for such a gross health risk - I feel it would have been more appropriate to offer my mother's meal on the house."
    dined on 21/07/2014
  • "This restaurant is by far my favourite... And, I'm an omnivore! Hubby and I use "Food for Friends" as our grand surprise for visiting friends and family. There hasn't been a single occasion where the response of the newcomer hasn't been anything but awe."
    dined on 12/07/2014
  • "I have been to Food for friends many times over the years. I go with a vegan friend who was disappointed in the number of vegan options - there are only two and the coconut curry has, in both our opinions gone downhill. Also there are few vegan dessert options - being intolerant of dairy it makes desserts difficult, but I think they need to try new ones here that are dairy free, particularly considering more people are becoming aware of intolerances. Otherwise it is a nice atmosphere apart from the baby screaming at the next table. They have a good range of organic and vegan wines and beers which was great. I don't think I'll be going back in a hurry which is a shame - the food they have is simple, but the menu is a bit tired."
    dined on 11/07/2014
  • "the food was delicious, lots of choice and the staff were friendly and helpful but not overbearing, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed but it was perhaps on the pricey side... good for a treat though. good signposting of the food, eg what is vegan, gluten free etc"
    dined on 04/07/2014
  • "Wonderful food, the best vegetarian menu I have come across. Great Service and friendly staff."

  • "Had lunch here during the week. The service was fabulous and the food was delicious. Relaxed by efficient. So many nice touches to the whole experience that make it a bit special."

  • "Relaxed atmosphere, fun, chatty staff and amazing food. Totally blown away by the range, quality and value of the menu. Thank you for a lovely evening."

  • "Shame there were not more vegan options. I think it says a lot when the food part of the menu is 2 pages long and the drinks menu is 6 pages long..."
    dined on 21/06/2014
  • "The best words to describe this restaurant - which we saw in a review that persuaded us to book - are - "Veggie food for non-veggies". We went with two friends who like their meat, and who are not particularly adventurous when it comes to food, and after the meal, Bob told us that he was really glad we'd brought him because he never would have come on his own. It opened his eyes to what superb veggie food could be. The menu was very inviting, lots of different food combinations, very tasty, superb presentation - even my lactose-intolerant, gluten-free wife who wants low-calorie food found that she had many choices. Friendly service, an excellent evening. We'll definitely be back."
    dined on 17/06/2014
  • "I can only visit this restaurant when I am at conference as I live in the frozen north. Even though I'm on my own thus time I couldn't miss out a visit. Oh the food is outstanding. I had the ravioli. Absolutely delightful! Add to that the service and atmosphere and you achieve perfection."
    dined on 16/06/2014
  • "This is probably the best restaurant in Brighton, England and Europe! The food is so good! The only negative thing was that the airco was too cold. I would definitely go there again and recommend it."
    dined on 15/06/2014
  • "Food is delicious. Favourite restaurant I'm brighton and so good for Vegans too."
    dined on 11/06/2014
  • "Food was good and service friendly although the restaurant is now much more cramped than our first visits so does not feel as special as it used to be."

  • "Having been a firm fan of FFF for many years now I was really looking forward to trying the Mezze Sharing Platter, sadly, I was very disappointed. The amount of food on the sharing platter means it is really a shared starter and the description is a bit misleading especially when the waiter referred to two salads. There is a bite sized portion of each item and the only items of substance are the Potato Rosti, 1/2 Spring Roll and curried Cauliflower floret. If you have tried the competition at Terre a Terre you will be disappointed. We should have stuck to firm FFF favourites or the Sunday lunch. The amount of oil on the sharing platter was also quite sickening and sadly I felt ill for the rest of the day. Wont be ordering this again. "

  • "We visited Brighton and searched for a special restaurant for our dinner- and we chose Food for Friends. It was a great experience, the best vegetarian food we had so far. We recommend!"

  • "A bit pretentious. Low value for money. But is veggie in an upscale decor."

  • "We really enjoyed having our table for five in our own separate section. Food was lovely. "

  • "Delicious food, innovative dishes, friendly knowledgeable service. "

  • "Another excellent meal at Food for Friends! I've been to a lot of vegetarian restaurants and this is surely one of the best - at very reasonable prices too!"
    dined on 26/05/2014
  • "Really lovely, healthy, vegetarian food. The 'Warm mild ewe’s halloumi salad served with dressed baby leaves, mango, ripe avocado, wasabi roasted cashews and a mango dressing (n,gf,vo – for the vegan option we use crispy tofu instead of halloumi)' is just that...and more! The elderflower cocktails with lunch is a really good idea because it's so chilled in there. Certainly my favourite place in Brighton on a Saturday afternoon."
    dined on 25/05/2014
  • "Options were extensive, service friendly and fast. Would just love more vegan dessert options and if there had been a vegan Yorkshire pudding it would have been perfect!"
    dined on 25/05/2014
  • "This is the second time we have visited the restaurant and the second time we have eaten vegitarian. What a surprise with the quality and the flavour of the food. If you are a vegitarian try the restaurant if you are not a vegitarian try the restaurant."

  • "We booked a table for 21.45 on Friday 23 May. Unfortunately, our train was involved in an accident and we were held for two hours. I tried to call the restaurant 36 times over the space of half an hour to see if we could broker a later table but the line was permanently busy - there was very little signal for using the internet to rearrange the booking. When we were finally on the move again, I did manage to change the booking time, via the internet, to a later slot. However, again we were delayed and would not make it for the new time - I tried calling again and the line was busy. We gave up hope of reaching the restaurant and having a meal there but I am confused as to why Open Table asked for a contact number. I was never called."
