  • "My wife and i tried out the Fountain restaurant for our pearl wedding anniversary meal after several excellent lunches in the Gallery, one word disappointing. whilst the food and service were excellent the whole evening lacked that buzz that comes with a busy restaurant. sorry we wont be coming back. • "A delicious meal in bright and airy surroundings. Choice on the menu was varied and the wine was excellent. Service was first rate. Perfect place to escape the heat and bustle of the city."

  • "If you seek a delightful stylish venue for a dejeuner a deux (ou trois) ou solo, this is the place in central London. Browse around the shop beforehand then head downstairs into the FOuntain for fabulous crab salad, stupendeous soft scallops, gorgeous chevre and mushroom vol au vent. Virgin and non virgin Mohitos worked a treat. Have been before for breakfast, but lunch is wonderful, though service is on the slow side and it took over 15 mins to make the cocktails (fresh). £100 for 2 for a 2 course lunch for 2 including 2 cocktails and one glass of wine. A little on the steep side? Quality HIGH!"

  • "Great evening. The vodka certainly acted as a great ice breaker and helped produce a very convivial atmosphere. By the end,you would have thought we and our neighbours- who were complete strangers- had known each other for years! And I mustn't forget the food which was beautifully prepared and presented lovely contrasts. Would definitely be up for a repeat session of ths supper club."

  • "As a guest over very many years, my experience is generally very good. That is why I return. However, there is no need to experiment or startle guests with new innovation in food. It does not work. ie crab roulade, or duck on a bed of split peas both of which looked most unattractive."

  • "Outstanding service and atmosphere - wonderful experience. We'll come again 😊!"

  • "Our family had a Breakfast reservation. Lovely cooked breakfast, and the fresh fruit juices were delicious. Service attentive and efficient. A real treat for the children."

  • "Having decided to treat ourselves to breakfast we were so disappointed by the entire experience. The food was sparse, badly presented, cold and the table was so crowded with stuff the waiter had trouble putting the plates down. No one came to ask if how things were. If they had I would have told them the bacon was so overcooked it resembled crisps and the whole meal was cold. I struggled to get the attention of a member of staff so I could have my teapot refilled with hot water. By the time we left we were so miserable we couldn't be bothered to respond to the staff member who asked if everything had been ok. She didn't press the point."

  • "We had a great lunch and did not feel that we were being rushed out - service was excellent and food great. We thoroughly enjoyed it."

  • "I took my two eldest grandchildren to Fortnums for lunch after the summer exhibition and they thought it was wonderful in every respect. Delicious food, suitably chic and yet a warm atmosphere with delightful staff. Their eyes nearly popped out of their head when they saw the knickerbocker glory!"

  • "All was good except the greeting on arrival. There was a single lady asking about a table for one. Three staff members were in attendance and not one made eye contact with me or any sort of acknowledgement for my presence and booking. It would have been so easy to greet on arrival and say 'I will be with you in a moment'. Initially we were two females, joined quickly by a male member. The service stepped up a notch on his arrival and was very acceptable. Main courses very good all round. Dessert of ice cream - two balls in a bowl, no garnish, wafer, lack of effort. Shame. I would re-visit, it could be excellent."

  • "Another great lunch experience for teo ladies of a certain age, following a visit to the RA Summer Exhibition."

  • "Top marks all round for this superb venue - its one of the highlights of our trip when I take my daughter shopping in London. The food is as good as I have ever tasted and the service impeccable. I think pound for pound FM offers excellent value when measured against the level of enjoyment."

  • "Service was slow but it was a busy Satursday lunchtime. Coffee and teas were forgotten with no apology."
    dined on 05/07/2014
  • "The food was quite good and the atmosphere was agreeable. However, the staff need to step up their game a notch if they'd like to be called an excellent restaurant, as they had to make several trips to the kitchen to find out about ingredients etc, the drinks waiter lifted glasses to serve water, as well as several other slightly clumsy incidents. They certainly lack the effortlesness and flair of a top class restaurant."

  • "My 3rd time of breakfast at the Fountain Restaurant. Consistently good. Relaxed atmosphere and attracts a mixed crowd. Service could have been slightly slicker but cannot fault quality of the Full English Breakfast. At £22, it may seem slightly top side, except that it provides everything you could want, including delicious freshly squeezed juice and sides of toast and jam, if you still have room left after the generous cooked breakfast. Traditional tea room feel, unchanged for many years - this adds to the sense of occasion. Worth a visit."

  • "I go for breakfast every half a year to 9 months but i think this time is just very average. Service was good but good looking chap does not add any value at all apart from saying yes to bring more hot water but had forgotten at the end. Food was ok but didnt wow me. Tea is always good. Waiters are nice. Value for money no. Special occassions are ok but in general is pretty average."

  • "Came to London for the day as a treat for my friend. Have had breakfast at Fortnum and Mason before, which is always lovely, but wanted to try lunch. We weren't disappointed . We opted for simple Beer battered fish and chips and my friend commented that it was the nicest she'd had. It initially seemed expensive but we are not used to the prices of London so maybe not. Afterwards we thought it was worth it. I just love the Fountain restaurant with the lovely silverware, the formal service and pleasant and attentive staff. One chap next to us popped out to use his phone and a waitress appeared immediately offering to take his food and keep it warm. He returned and his food came back immediately and he was offered fresh chips. Good service."

  • "We went for lunch at the Fountain. The food was delicious, especially the apricot and rosemary bread. The staff were extremely helpful and very welcoming. It was perfect."

  • "We love this place, and keep coming back year after year. In fact, we've been stopping by the Fountain every time we visit London for the past 20 years! Service cannot be beat, and the food is always very tasty and beautifully presented. It's not cheap, but it's good value for money, and honestly, we go as a special treat, so we don't consider the prices exorbitant. Just one note from this visit, I think FM could be a bit better about updating its print menu, a couple of things were unavailable, and our waitress told us one item was out of season (then why on earth was it on the menu at all?). I can appreciate wanting to conserve paper, but I'd rather have something that is current and less flashy looking than something that is inaccurate."

  • "Great food, knickerbocker glory amazing, very good service in a lovely setting. Always special"
    dined on 22/06/2014
  • "Good food but service not up to scratch. Mineral water and wine were warm. Very difficult to hold a conversation as noise level very high. Tables very close together and seating not very comfortable. Overall a nice lunch but not exceptional"

  • "had never been there before and was very pleasantly surprised at reasonable prices and very pleasant service. nice not to be too near other diners. house white wine excellent. food a high standard. impressed by chef coming to our table when we complained fish batter much too salty."

  • "i have visited fortnums Fountain Restaurant on many occasions and always enjoyed eating there but I feel that the service is becomming indifferent and I also think that some of the staff judge too much on appearance. I am usually accompanied by my children who have all studied at university in London and that seems to lead to a lack of care from the staff compared to visits by adults only. Dont forget the young are future diners. I might add that my guests were correctly dressed and behaved properly."

  • "Elegant surroundings with first class food and service."

  • "Generally when in London, I take lunch here. I'm afraid my menu is always the same, Smoked Salmon (always good standard) and i/s bottle champagne (full bottle if my wife is with me - a favourite treat holiday lunch prior to a couple of hours in Hatchards next door) Its light, bustly, good staff, unrushed, and I know what we are getting."
    dined on 13/06/2014
  • "Despite all the changes at Fortnum's, the Fountain has kept that indefinable something that distnguishes the really good from the rest. Numerous meals over the years have never disappointed and after a hard morning's slog around the Veronese exhibition, chicken liver parfait and Omelette Arnold Bennet for my wife and deep fried duck egg sald and guinea fowl with morels and beef consomme for me with a carafe of delicious Sancerre performed a restoration coup for us both. The service was impeccable if a little enthusiastic on the wine pouring front. There are always interesting fellow diners to watch and a smattering of tourists to play guess the nationality with. Then, a stroll thrrough Mayfair and head for home replete. A perfect day."

  • "We enjoyed our evening meal here, the service was as we expected it to be so that topped off the meal. The food was very good quality and even the little touches made it great. The waiter service was attentive so all round great meal. Thank you"

  • "The Fountain is the dependable go-to place when meeting an out-of-town friend at a central location. On Sunday morning/afternoon it feels like a neighborhood place. I sensed the other patrons were "at home" there. The food is certainly nicely presented and the choices are good. My vol a vent was a little saggy. I have had other dishes that were marginally better, but nothing that "knocked my socks off." I am thinking maybe there is a bit too much Mrs. Beeton in the heritage to be a "foodie" kind of place. That's all right. One knows ahead of time what to expect. The service is superb, and I love not being rushed out. Also, the noise level is very tolerable -- perhaps one of the rare havens for older people."

  • "Cold plates, two identical sausages when 2 different types specified on menu, very fatty streaky bacon, long wait for fruit juices which arrived simultaneously with tea/coffees, lot of fuss made of adjacent diners for unknown reason!, overall a bit of a disappointment. "

  • "The welcome and service afforded by the people was good. However the quality of the food was poor and poor value for the money paid. "

  • "A lovely restaurant whether a special occasion or you just fancy some good food and good service in a lovely atmosphere."
    dined on 31/05/2014
  • "We really enjoyed our meal here and everything was so gorgeous (as you would expect). The only matter that got to us is that we requested window and were told we would be moved after seated, that never happened and then the waiter/waitress changed a lot each one with a different mannerism some really great, others distracted."
    dined on 31/05/2014
  • "Must have hand breakfast/lunch/brunch at the Fountain 25 times or more - with or without the children. We live a two hour train ride away so you can tell we are firm Fortnum's fans. Service was unusually slow, some tables serviced quickly but not us. Not many of the usual faces, didn't get put on table requested. Carey Mulligan and Stephen Daldry at next table though! Hey, back for lunch the next day, so not that bad - gasp, no live Jazz on Sunday :( Vodka Martinis were all excellent!"
    dined on 31/05/2014
  • "This is not a cheap option for lunch with a friend, but as a very ordinary person (i.e. not a food expert) I would certainly recommend it. I often need a lunchtime meal in the Piccadilly area and since the much-mourned Royal Academy restaurant died and reopened in hell, I have found it surprisingly hard to find a decent, civilised place to eat and chat quietly; the Fountain is now my preferred treat. Unfortunately an awful lot of other people think the same way, and particularly on Wednesday it was almost impossible to chat due to the ambient noise -- I can't suggest a sensible solution to this, except not to put the tables so close together, which is obviously unfair on the restaurant. The food and service was excellent though."

  • "good, stable restaurant - feel at home - 3 generations of Evans women have enjoyed this place."

  • "A unique and exceptional restaurant for brunch or lunch nestled in the corner of Fortnum and Masons. Five star food and service. Perfect for diners with food intolerances with an extremely versatile menu. Highly recommended."

  • "The show started at 7.30 and we wanted to eat first. We booked at F & M's Fountain restaurant. We were warmly greeted and our coats and umbrellas taken from us. Whilst waiting for our food our smiling waiter placed on our table a small basket containing the most wonderful apricot and rosemary bread which staved off the hunger pains. We chose the Dover sole with mushrooms for our main course. This dish not only looked wonderful but the taste lived up to all expectations. The ambience at the Fountain restaurant was calm and inviting and with its display of fine china in recesses in the wall put us in the mood for Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" at the Gielgud Theatre only a short ten minutes walk away.
