We have always had an excellent meal here but this time the service was not up to the usual standard. Between the main and the dessert our waiter disappeared. It was about 2 pm and may have been the end of his shift. It was about 20 minutes before we caught someone's eye and we were able to ask for a dessert menu even though there were a large number of besuited staff behind the bar chatting to each other. It looked like a restaurant that needed a manager. Fortunately we were not in a hurry.

I love F&M (it's my favourite shop) but I've been to the restaurant twice and have not been that impressed either time. Maybe I'm putting too much pressure on it as it looks so beautiful and elegant. The waitress didn't take three out of our five orders correctly and so we had to send a few things back, which made us feel slightly uncomfortable. There were lots of servers and people milling around us which feels nice in such a place but when we needed to catch someone's attention to order some extra bits or change anything, it took a few glances over and a few loud hellos to get her to come over. And the food isn't as great as one might imagine it should be for F&M! It was very nice though and all very fancy so we enjoyed ourselves.

Amazing service, the food was superb!!! Wine was relatively cheap and tasted fabulous. This is my 2nd time eating here and it just get better and better! Would recommend the guinea fowl and oysters for starter. My partner had red snapper and said it was the best he had ever tasted. The waitress was so attentive and we were made to feel so welcome. Not that expensive which was surprising but a very nice surprise!

Love the whole feel of the restaurant, excellent choice on the menu and choice of size of portions. On this occasion my eggs benedict could have been a little hotter and we could have been offered a second Cup of coffee. On this visit I don't think the staff were as attentive as on our prior visit but overall love coming here and will definitely come again.

I went to this restaurant for the first time in years. I had 2 out of town guests. We had the set lunch of dover sole, which was delicious. However we each wanted the recommended glass of rose wine and were charged accordingly. when we decided to have a second glass we were told that ordering a carafe would be cheaper we mentioned that this advice would have been welcomed earlier. We were charged for 3 glasses and a carafe; the glasses total being greater than a carafe. This sort of spoiled what was otherwise a delicious meal.

What I like about The Fountain is that it provides a consistently good experience. There is a feeling of airiness and space, even with the outside of the store being renovated. The service is unobtrusive but good, and the quality of food served excellent. It could be said that the choice available is not very wide, and that those courses available tend towards the cautious, rather than the adventurous, but the restaurant understands its clientele and what they want, and remains very popular.

came for a pre-theatre meal and took advantage of the set menu. we loved that the dishes were normal sized as well as the SAME found on the regular menu - making the set a great deal. because a friend insisted we try the scones, i ordered some (not on the menu after 5pm) and the staff were accommodating to my strange request. my duck confit was perfectly roasted and the jus was amazing. will come again to try their afternoon tea.

If you seek a delightful stylish venue for a dejeuner a deux (ou trois) ou solo, this is the place in central London. Browse around the shop beforehand then head downstairs into the FOuntain for fabulous crab salad, stupendeous soft scallops, gorgeous chevre and mushroom vol au vent. Virgin and non virgin Mohitos worked a treat. Have been before for breakfast, but lunch is wonderful, though service is on the slow side and it took over 15 mins to make the cocktails (fresh). £100 for 2 for a 2 course lunch for 2 including 2 cocktails and one glass of wine. A little on the steep side? Quality HIGH!

Great evening. The vodka certainly acted as a great ice breaker and helped produce a very convivial atmosphere. By the end,you would have thought we and our neighbours- who were complete strangers- had known each other for years! And I mustn't forget the food which was beautifully prepared and presented lovely contrasts. Would definitely be up for a repeat session of ths supper club.

As a guest over very many years, my experience is generally very good. That is why I return. However, there is no need to experiment or startle guests with new innovation in food. It does not work. ie crab roulade, or duck on a bed of split peas both of which looked most unattractive.

Having decided to treat ourselves to breakfast we were so disappointed by the entire experience. The food was sparse, badly presented, cold and the table was so crowded with stuff the waiter had trouble putting the plates down. No one came to ask if how things were. If they had I would have told them the bacon was so overcooked it resembled crisps and the whole meal was cold. I struggled to get the attention of a member of staff so I could have my teapot refilled with hot water. By the time we left we were so miserable we couldn't be bothered to respond to the staff member who asked if everything had been ok. She didn't press the point.

All was good except the greeting on arrival. There was a single lady asking about a table for one. Three staff members were in attendance and not one made eye contact with me or any sort of acknowledgement for my presence and booking. It would have been so easy to greet on arrival and say 'I will be with you in a moment'. Initially we were two females, joined quickly by a male member. The service stepped up a notch on his arrival and was very acceptable. Main courses very good all round. Dessert of ice cream - two balls in a bowl, no garnish, wafer, lack of effort. Shame. I would re-visit, it could be excellent.

The food was quite good and the atmosphere was agreeable. However, the staff need to step up their game a notch if they'd like to be called an excellent restaurant, as they had to make several trips to the kitchen to find out about ingredients etc, the drinks waiter lifted glasses to serve water, as well as several other slightly clumsy incidents. They certainly lack the effortlesness and flair of a top class restaurant.
