A very nice environment for lunch with excellent service and beautifully cooked food, both the pork dish and the cod dish were very tasty - the house wine was also very good and perfectly chilled! We will return!!

Found the room very noisy on arrival but quietened down later. Always a problem when have no carpets and sound magnifies on hard floors. Wendy had lobster and egg in marie rose sauce for a starter, duck for main course and then chocolate tart at end. Wendy had severe diarrhoea the next day. The lobster and the red cabbage for the main course were both heavily covered in sauce, so much so that the natural taste was smothered - left the red cabbage, which she normally enjoys. Has the chef changed?? Have been to eat there twice before and loved it but struggled to make a good selection from the menu this time and having been so ill afterwards would probably choose to go elsewhere next time.

Have been a regular visitor for Fortnum's - as a treat, as we live in Wales. Took our grand-daughter there on Wednesday for her first visit and hopefully future visit. But, honestly, the atmosphere of luxury has all gone now. It used to be a wonderful place to lunch or tea, with fine table linen and comfort personified. Now we eat off hard tables with thin tatty mats, which look very cheap. From the food point of view, we would always recommend Welsh Rarebit - the best there is. For the money you are charging, it is just not good enough. Most reluctantly, I fear we will have to look to other venues for a taste of luxury, which is such a shame and I am very sorry.

The Staff were polite! charming and attentive . My only criticism is that I arrived 5 minutes early, and was kept standing for far too long Before being shown to my table, or asked whether I needed a seat. This was not the most hospitable of ' Welcomes' ....! Also despite asking for a jug of water, my request was ignored. This Service needs improvement , it is not acceptable at the sort Of Prices that the visitor pays!

  • Breakfast at F&M very disappointing

    Dined on 12/10/2014
Such a disappointing experience - service was slow and inattentive. Coffee while served in lovely silver pots was lukewarm. The toast to accompany the cooked breakfast didn't arrive until my husband had finished. There was no generosity in this overpriced experience - we had to ask for Jam to accompany toast and croissants - no one asked if we'd like any more coffee or tea and yet there was a 12.5 per cent service charge added to the bill. The fountain restaurant itself is noisy which makes conversation difficult. The entire experience was underwhelming and not one that I would recommend.

We picked F & M to meet our daughter for afternoon tea. As our table wasn't ready at the booked time, we were given a champagne at the bar to apologise. The service was attentive and courteous, the table and crockery etc very well presented, and the scones were delicious. Two hours just flew by! A nice place to meet and catch up.

We visited the Fountain Restaurant for a pre-theatre dinner and chose a three course menu which was really delicious and also of a very good value. For us it was the first dinner there and we can say that we will come back during our next visit to London! The atmosphere in the restaurant is absolutely fantastic. Service was very friendly.

Superb breakfast, made of high quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Menu is an excellent size with all dishes well though to cater for all allergies and tastes, special requests can be made without you feeling inconvenient. Have eaten here for breakfast, lunch and dinner several times and will be back again soon. Service is excellent with all waiters and waitresses, whether its the manager of juniors, taking the time to smile (Something that lacks in good restaurants sometimes) Very easy to talk to and extremely friendly.

Good old fashioned favourites at a price. I love the style and the service is great but the ambience can be a little lacking at certain times of the day. I think breakfast has the best buzz along with early suppers. Mu only gripe is that on recent visits the temperature in the restaurant has been too low and my scrambled eggs could have been hotter. When it's this pricey it needs to be perfect. But perhaps my disappointment was heightened because it is usually a very perfect treat.

We enjoyed a family lunch on Sunday. The food and whole experience was great. The I nly point I would fault is that they did not point out how small the portions were of some of the dishes we ordered. This was disappointing as it would have influenced our choices had we known - especially those of the men in our party. Therefore I have marked them down on value for money.

Nothing wrong with old fashioned English food - but this is just ordinary. And the world-famous deserts - hence the name "Fountain" are all but gone. Even the Knickerbocker Glory isn't what it was, with sugary burnt meringue on top instead of whipped cream. Additionally, there was no effort to please. After looking at the desert options, I asked for a scone. I was told tea service had ended. And Fortnum & Mason was out of scones? Really? How much trouble would it have been to just bring one out. And dinner for two, with no wine and obviously no scones, was over 90 GBP. Ordinary is the best I can do.

This is our first 'port of call' on arriving in London from our home on a Greek island - we lived for almost 40years in UK working in the NHS (consultant surgeon) and this is the haven we miss most! This time we met a young friend from Brighton who had not been before and she fell in love with the whole experience too. We had exactly the corner table I asked for, and although we were early we were encouraged to sit and relax by the very friendly and efficient staff. The meals are imaginative, well presented and always delicious.

We have always had an excellent meal here but this time the service was not up to the usual standard. Between the main and the dessert our waiter disappeared. It was about 2 pm and may have been the end of his shift. It was about 20 minutes before we caught someone's eye and we were able to ask for a dessert menu even though there were a large number of besuited staff behind the bar chatting to each other. It looked like a restaurant that needed a manager. Fortunately we were not in a hurry.

I love F&M (it's my favourite shop) but I've been to the restaurant twice and have not been that impressed either time. Maybe I'm putting too much pressure on it as it looks so beautiful and elegant. The waitress didn't take three out of our five orders correctly and so we had to send a few things back, which made us feel slightly uncomfortable. There were lots of servers and people milling around us which feels nice in such a place but when we needed to catch someone's attention to order some extra bits or change anything, it took a few glances over and a few loud hellos to get her to come over. And the food isn't as great as one might imagine it should be for F&M! It was very nice though and all very fancy so we enjoyed ourselves.

Amazing service, the food was superb!!! Wine was relatively cheap and tasted fabulous. This is my 2nd time eating here and it just get better and better! Would recommend the guinea fowl and oysters for starter. My partner had red snapper and said it was the best he had ever tasted. The waitress was so attentive and we were made to feel so welcome. Not that expensive which was surprising but a very nice surprise!

I went to this restaurant for the first time in years. I had 2 out of town guests. We had the set lunch of dover sole, which was delicious. However we each wanted the recommended glass of rose wine and were charged accordingly. when we decided to have a second glass we were told that ordering a carafe would be cheaper we mentioned that this advice would have been welcomed earlier. We were charged for 3 glasses and a carafe; the glasses total being greater than a carafe. This sort of spoiled what was otherwise a delicious meal.
