There a number of factors that make for a memorable meal in a restaurant; ambiance, staff and the food. At Frontline all of these factors are first rate and in perfect balance. The ambiance is just really nice, classy, calm and unhurried. The staff are exemplary, we have been quite often so feel we are known, but they are just so nice to us and make us feel really very welcome indeed, that counts for a lot with us. The food is of course star of the show and it never fails to delight. We brought our own champagne which they were so good about; it was our wedding anniversary and we will be back for the next one, the only down side is that we did not get to the really very good wine list. Thank you Frontline and keep up the good work.

Ate here early on a Friday. Empty restaurant so staff falling over us, but unfortunately when we got our meals evident why. Tiny portions medicore food and really pricey. £ 70 for 2 mains, a cheese plate and two glasses of wine! Wouldn't be back unless there was an early bird.

A good place to eat if you find yourself in the Paddington area. The restaurant has a fantastic ambience with photographs on all of the walls and a really good buzz. Service was really friendly and helpful. The only reservation was that the food was fine, but nothing special and the tables are all rather packed in, so hold on to your glass whilst people come to or from surrounding tables as there is barely enough space for the smallest of bottoms! We thought the wine overpriced, although a really good selection, considering the average nature of the fare on offer.

We have eaten there regularly but unfortunately that was probably the last time. The sea trout was raw in the middle, not lightly cooked, but cold and raw. Secondly, we ordered a reasonably priced bottle of wine, only to find on presentation of the bill that they had actually given us a much more expensive one. My friend had physically pointed to the one we wanted on the menu so it was their mistake. No apology was forthcoming which was unfortunate as I had been recommending it to colleagues. I think we will be giving it a miss for the time being.

This was a chance find after looking through the Zagat entries for this area. We had a good table and the restaurant was buzzing when we got there on Saturday evening. The service was prompt and we did not have to wait long for our food which was good as there was a party of 14 before us.The food was of a high quality. The only quibble was the wine list which was not marvellous and quite expensive. We only noticed the bin ends on the way out and saw a nice French organic wine we would have liked. It was a reasonable price too. However we will be returning as the food was so good

Frontline was a great place to meet just blocks from the Heathrow Express; the exposed brick walls of this old journalists' watering hole were adorned with compelling photos from war-torn regions around the world. The drinks menu was quite inventive, and the food delicious, even for the gluten free in our party. We sampled a marvelous violet artichoke and quail eggs salad, butternut squash risotto with goat cheese, chicken breast with crushed peas and bacon, and cod with augergine puree corizo and peppers. We would certainly recommend Frontline and plan to return.

The service and ambience were great, the first two courses were excellent but unfortunately the desserts did not live up to expectations. My son and I had pecan pie which was really just a pastry case stuffed with nuts - hardly any of the moist filling you would expect in a good pecan pie - it would have been inedible without the ice cream accompaniment. My husband had bread and butter pudding with orange sauce, the pudding was solid and stodgy although the sauce was ok. Overall mostly good (the wines were reasonably priced) - shame about the puds!

I took a few business colleagues to dinner at Frontline. It has a busy atmosphere without being too crowded or noisy and with attentive service. The staff are keen to please and helpful without overbearing and false bonhomie that seems to be the trend these days. Good food well presented and portions just about the right size. Lamb was particularly good. Overall, a good experience and it offers good vale given the location. I will use it again. An interesting back story to the Frontline Club. Have a look on Wikipedia if you have time.

Rabbit terrine was excellent. The duck was really good too. Delicious sorbet - and the Malbec was delicious. Over 70 quid a head is pretty steep, I think. But maybe that's 'cos I think of the club as my local. Anyway - tremendous service, and an excellent evening all round. Thanks.

I'd chosen this based on the other reviews and was not disappointed! Though it's a teensy bit hard to find if you are not looking for it (the outside appears smaller and not much like a restaurant), one look at the cocktail menu and I was jumping like a child! The food came in good time and was delicious 😋, the waitresses were friendly without being over intrusive. It's just that too many war photos on the walls were a tad off-putting. I appreciate that's where the name comes from, but may be the ones with people actually getting hit could be replaced with something like the one with St Paul's bombed -- just a suggestion.

The ambiance was also really nice. If you are looking for a place with history, good but not pretentious food, this will be a right choice.

Decent restaurant a stone's throw from Paddington station, and certainly one of the best in the area. I assume it's a converted pub, high ceiling and plenty of light. Iconic 20th century photos on the wall reflect Frontline's connections to the world of photo-journalism.

The service here was good - they do seem to care and were quite attentive, but the food was a bit of a mixed bag (and I felt a bit ill afterwards, but it might have been unrelated!). The lobster salad tasted quite fresh, but the steak was dry and fairly tasteless. It comes with 'crispy potatoes' which essentially are quite thick and oily crisps which we thought were disappointing. Nice ambience for Paddington, which really is a black spot for good restaurants.

I first went to Frontline a couple of years ago and enjoyed myself then as much as I did this visit. They have a simple, well-chosen, menu of British cuisine (with hints of Europe) that offers something for all, from committed carnivores to vegetarians. What I particularly like is that a lot of what they serve is grown on their farm in Norfolk . The wine list isn't bad either. The ambiance is old school - wood panelling, sombre colours - and while the space is small and intimate, sound doesn't suffer: you can still hear your lunch companion(s) talk. Without doubt, the best place near Paddington and great for business lunches.

This remains the only reasonable restaurant around Paddington. However this time was disappointing as my guest's steak, which he ordered as rare, arrived more med-well. Apart from this, the rest of the food was up to the usual standards and the service very good.

We had a light meal pre going to the theatre and I chose this because the menu online looked so interesting. In the event the menu on the day was different and not nearly as interesting. We both had salads which were tasty, although rather small for main course portions. My friend ordered a portion of chips and we were shocked at how small it was, it actually worked out at 40p per chip! However, when I pointed this out to the waitress she very kindly offered to bring us some more. Otherwise the service was only OK, considering that it was early and not at all busy.

I took clients to Frontline for dinner and a very nice evening. I've only been there for lunch before so knew it was a good venue. Everything was great; food, service and atmosphere. We have often eaten at Frontline, usually for a special occasion or because we want to treat ourselves. This is a relaxed but somehow very professional restaurant, it is not for tourists, but if you like good English food, beautifully cooked with the quality of the ingredients showing in every mouthful, you will love it as much as we do. The staff are always perfect, attentive but discreet, and very friendly. Prices are what you would expect for this quality although we have often paid more for less good food. The connection with the Frontline club, seems to infuse an intelligent approach to eating and being. It is hard to describe but for us it shows every time we come here. Please keep it up and may you prosper.

is it just me or does Grilled haunch of venison with apple, celeriac & red cabbage or Wild mushroom, leek & tarragon pie with spinach or Rump of Norfolk lamb, confit tomatoes, spring vegetables & mint jelly all sound a bit last season now that it's the middle of June? also, this is the second consecutive visit when I've been told they've just sold the last bottle of our first choice of wine. Just coincidence perhaps, and they were obliging with an alternative, eventually.

Great new finding. Paddington is a dining wasteland unless you head towards Marylebone. This is independent, interesting with high food values and an interesting menu. Would like to see some specials offered for variety but otherwise this is good value and not well known so usually available. Been back a few times in last 3 months since discovery and has been consistent. Service could be friendlier and faster but overall this is a decent choice.
