Diner Reviews
  • "Having visited Gaucho's around the UK, this family meal disappointed. The service was fast, possibly too fast, although being Canary Wharf they may think people want to go home. Our order was wrong which resulted in one of our party eating when everyone else had finished. The food had good texture and flavour, but was barely warm. Sadly on this occasion we did not receive value for money."

  • "I went for a nice romantic meal with my girlfriend and neither the food or the ambience disappointed. Amazing service too."

  • "We had a meal to celebrate our daughters graduation and wanted something special . We were not disappointed we had a party of 5 and everyone left saying it was the best steak we had ever tasted , we did wonder why steak knives were not provided but on eating the steak we realised they were not needed as it was so tender . The service we received was second to none and the ambience was wonderful ."

  • "It was very nice. The Don Pedro was especially good."

  • "Gaucho always does good steak, and especially the marinades which you don't find in some other steak restaurants. Great service, waiter knew the wine list well and was ready to make recommendations. A blip with the timing of desserts though. Lovely table by the river. I'd like to see some of the options available in smaller sizes, but takeaway boxes were offered. My veggie friend quite likes Gaucho. Although it specialises in steak, she reasons that means they have to go to some effort to attract parties with veggies in them. Their two vegetarian options are very tasty, and they have a lot of delicious vegetarian sides. Don't be put off by the sweet potatoes coming with chorizo either, they'll remove it or put it on the side for you."

  • "Went went my boyfriend and we were greeted by I very nice guy who asked where we would like to sit and we picked a table outside. Not long after out waitress turned up with menus and told us about their daily specials. Both me and my boyfriend went with the specials for the starters, tuna carpaccio and calamari with aoli, both were very good. The waitress then showed us the steaks and recommended the rib eye so we went with it and weren't disappointed. The meat was fantastic! Going to a steak restaurant you expect the meat the be very good, but I must say the sides were just as good! We had potatoes, sweet potatoes and broccolli and everything was perfectly cooked. Can't complain about the atmosphere either, we had a lovely time."

  • "We went for a late lunch here on a very hot afternoon. We arrived early and sat on the sofas with a pre lunch cocktail, watching the world go by on the river. Our table was right on the river front, which, although outside, is covered with a canopy of trees, which was gorgeous in the very hot weather, and created a lovely atmosphere. Being a later lunch (3pm) there were still people dining, but it wasn't full up, which afforded us excellent service from our attentive waiter. The food was fantastic as it always is. It is on the more expensive side, but you get what you pay for, and it is worth it for a special occassion. The setting is perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant, and will be going back again!"

  • "If you're a meat lover this is definitely the place to go! I'm never disappointed with the food or the service. Currently on offer, and something usually not offered by the Gaucho chain, is a summer 2 course and 3 course set menu at a discounted rate which is excellent value for money. It is well worth the visit."

  • "As always I had fillet medallion stake, two sides, with some complimentary red wine, and finish off with a selection of cheese. My colleague friend had something similar. However, the only two down points were that the waitress spilt the wine all over the glass and table without noticing, and the serving waitress split the peppercorn source onto my colleague’s trousers without noticing. I was very disappointed over that given the level of services expected from Gaucho. Other than that, everything else were fine."

  • "Took my boyfriend here for dinner as it is his birthday. The food was magnificent and you can taste every single flavour in it. Highly recommended."

  • "Excellent food which is deserving of a premium price however I do feel that the food is slightly overpriced in comparison to the market. Ambience is brilliant, trendy atmosphere and furniture and with excellent music in the background."

  • "Having arrived we were asked if we had a preference on where we would like to sit, we chose a window river view, lovely decor inside the restaurant. Our waitress showed us the steak board and explained the cuts to us, the steak was the best I've ever eaten having chosen the trio of medallions to try 3 different cuts, side dishes of tomato salad and chips were delicious. The home made bread platter was superb and having chosen the special desert of strawberry meringue I was very impressed with the whole experience. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they are very attentive, I would definitely go back"

  • "Overall, what is was expecting from the Gaucho, have used thier 02 before as within the venue, but this is so much better food and service wise. Also the river boat takes you straigh to the O2. Would choose this over the 02 any day."

  • "Lovely restaurant for that special occasion. Thank you for a lovely evening on sat 5th July, will return but could not read the menu as the writing was very small and dining area to dark had to use mobile phone light to choose meal"

  • "Rib-eye was succulent and the cooking was spot on (medium rare) and the waitress recommended us a very pleasant oak aged Malbec from Mendoza region. Perfect match with beef... I am dribbling just writing the review... :-))"

  • "We were a group of 6 (2couples and 2children). We got noone come out to explain the different cuts of meat (they did to other tables).we sat outside and when it got colder they never asked us if we wanted paschminas (they gave them to other tables). Service was bad, almost appalling. No childrens menus. They took a long time to get our food out, although we had young children to feed. The waitress kept directing us to certain types of wines and didn't listen to what we wanted. Don't think we will come back again."

  • "I like this gaucho - unfortunately our plan of sitting outside in the sunshine was pulled apart by the english weather. I think its slightly too dark in this one - the bathrooms in particular are very very very dark - i know its to build a mood - but its a bit too much. Food was good as usual - the wine was good with a huge selection."

  • "With such a wonderful location it was a shame that the restaurant had so few diners, not what you expect on a Sunday lunch service. Steak was well cooked but over-seasoned. Good seating and a view of the kitchen made this an enjoyable lunch."

  • "the lighting was very poor we had to use the torch on my phone to see the menu. also the menu is over rated."

  • "Gaucho at Canary Wharf is one of my favourites, as you get the great Gaucho experience and can still see outside, as well as overlooking the river. It is also a winner for my fiancé's birthday! The only surprise was the bill, whilst Gaucho has always been on the pricy side, it was more expensive than I ever remember."
    dined on 26/06/2014
  • "Second visit, this time on a hot sunny late afternoon/early evening and we dined on the terrace under a canopy of trees next to the river - a great position. Staff extremely welcoming, courteous and efficient. Food very good and the Argentian wine we were recommended was perfect. Had to leave all too soon as we were going to a concert at the O2 and Gaucho provided our complimentary Thames River Clipper boat tickets to get there and the pier is right there so a seamless transition from restaurant to venue - couldn't have asked for more!"

  • "this restaurant is for people who have no taste but too much money. we went there craving steak and on arrival they showed us these.gorgeous.cuts of meat on a wooden board but when ours came mine looked like a mangled piece of dog food. we both ordered steak, mine med rare plus and my girlfriends medium rare. both steaks came out raw. my gf ate it anyways but i sent mine back, they brought it back to me no more cooked than the last time. our waitress was also terrible, she was unfriendly and stuck up and forgot a bunch of things that we had asked for. as well as a number of our side dishes. the only plus was that the wine was delicious and the view outside was gorgeous. overall the restaurant itself is not worth going to ever."

  • "If you want to know your food will be good every time to go, that the wine list will be extensive, and that the service will be top notch , this is the place to go. You're greeted warmly, and I enjoy the attention all the staff provides. Enjoy!"

  • "We had asked for a table outside which we were given, a lovely spot, and saw the sun coming down. In the first 20 minutes we were inundated with staff coming to see us, at one point we tried to repeat the same senatence 3 times as we kept on being interrupted. The food arrived which was great, my partners' steak was a little cold, I was surprised that the plates were not warmed through especially as we were outside. After our main course, we were given a desert menu & lefft for over 20 minutes with no one coming to our table, the staft had either gone inside or were talking to each other. We finally had to get up to attract their attention. It just seemed a complete contrast to the service we had earlier. So a mixed experience really."

  • "Overall my Gaucho experience was nice. The food took quite a while to come but it was enjoyable. Water was being voluntarily provided, later to discover that we were being charged. This should have been made 100% clear and the waitress kept topping up our glasses without us asking. The bill was altered however it could have caused an inconvenience so just be aware."

  • "I have been several times to the Gaucho Canary, and always love it. The food was as delicious as ever, the meat was perfectly cooked and service great. The highlight was the terrace, as it was sunny enough to sit outside (with some heating above our heads) and it was really lovely to have a table in front of the Thames. The only slightly negative point is that the waitress kindly told us she would give us tickets for the ferry back, however she could not find them anymore and we had to hurry up to catch the boat. I would definitely recommend the Gaucho - I've never been disappointed!"

  • "Great steak but over priced for what it was £40+ for just the steak +more for sides. The vanilla and whisky desert was excellent but £9+ hmmmmm"

  • "Beautiful venue on a lovely warm evening. Service very slow but staff friendly and knowledgeable, food good and we would recommend this to our friends."

  • "Lunch for 3. £289 No Wine. ChateauBriand and sides. Desserts, Coffee, 4 Wine Spritzers. On the positive side it's next to the thames and the ambiance is pleasant and made for a nce Sunday Afternoon lunch. On the down side, the ChateauBriand was poorly seared, no steak knives (for a steak restaurant?) the knives supplied were dull and made cutting the fillet difficult, No english mustard ?! Lots of waiters stood around chatting but not too keen on helping (of the 5 tables occupied outside our waiter was dealing with 4) The vegetable sides were mediocre at best. The dressings provided were very poor. I can only conclude that Sunday it's their second team manning the fort. Price does not reflect the food only the location."

  • "Booked here prior to an event at the O2, as the O2 Gaucho's was fully booked. Previous experience at this chain had been exemplary. However, service was slow despite the restaurant being almost empty. We were shown the cuts of steak before anyone had even considered asking for our drinks order. 3 of us ordered the Churrasco de Chorizo, all to be cooked medium rare. One was perfect, the second average whilst the third was very tough. For dessert, the meringue sponge was lacking any meringue, although maybe this was us not realising that this was the argentinian way of describing angel cake (which was what actually appeared on the bill)."

  • "Gaucho used to be a great place for amazing steak and a wonderful evening. The food remains outstanding. Unfortunately the chain now plays loud music so that diners can't relax and can barely hear each other. We thought it was just a couple of branches but it now seems to be every one we visit. Such a shame - time to give up on Gaucho and seek top-quality steak elsewhere."

  • "Lovely atmosphere, great service, and the best steak !"

  • "Gaucho's prices are no less than the good steakhouses in town, it serves acceptable food but the service is substandard. The Westferry branch in Canary Wharf has always suffered from the loud cocktails crowd at the bar and now the dining area feels even more crammed with additional tables. Despite our early booking, our waiter, though upbeat and polite, was hardly paying attention to our requests and needed constant reminding. Even Canary Wharf now offers better alternatives in steakhouses and the bar scene - Gaucho therefore is just a crowded but expensive chain restaurant with very little value."
