A word from Gaucho Piccadilly
Tucked away in a little known side street off Piccadilly this Gaucho Restaurant provides a bit of the Pampas and Buenos Aires relocated to the heart of the West End. As you soon as you enter the restaurant the aroma of meat sizzling on the open grills hits you. As well as steak we do offer a selection of other dishes including fish, chicken, ceviche and vegetarian options.

At Gaucho we pride ourselves on the basic philosophy of provenance. To us this means authenticity, assurance and rigorous attention to obtain the finest quality ingredients at source. This dedication ensures that every time you visit us, you experience the true essence of Argentine cuisine. Its food, its wine, its culture and importantly the passion of its people.

Decked out in cowhide, mirrors and chandeliers we offer a full range of Argentine cuts of luxury beef, including the tender Bife de Lomo, aged for six to eight weeks and then flown in from Buenos Aires.

The Open Table reservation system was faultless, and the useful reminders especially a phone call about 3 hours beforehand were timely. My daughter and I had an excellent lunch from the prix fixe menu, and would recommend Gaucho to family and friends.

Great food, great service, prices reasonable, but unfortunately we sat in silence as we couldn't hear each other as the music was so loud. We aren't even old haha!! one of us was 22 and was seriously offended by not being able to converse with the other guests. how about a Quiet Zone like the train service for those who wish to talk to each other not shout!

The food and atmosphere was amazing but we waited ages for drinks in the bar. Prices seem to have gone up a lot since our last visit - £100 a head and I'd expect everything to be perfect; not a wait of 15 mins for a gin and tonic and a vodka and lemonade.

Once again we had an excellent dinner experience at Gaucho Picadilly. Perfect attention and service. We were originally placed in basement dinnerlevel but as we thought our seating was too noisy, they quicky moved our party of 6 to a different area. Even if the restaurant was full. Good service to be flexible!

  • we will not be back for a while, staff ruined it
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010

After Saturday night we will not be back for a while, this was my favourite restaurant in london but we were given an awful table so close to others that we might as we'll have joined together. The service was so slow and the waiter just had too many tables in his area to cope with, sitting with empty wine glasses waiting for them to be refilled in the bottle they had taken away. Then the chief lady waiter the one who takes you to your table pushes past me after coming out of the Middle toilet cubicle without washing there hands. The cleaning lady also in the toilet commented on this too. And the lights kept going from dark to light throughout the meal and ruined the abience. For an expensive meal the staff ruined it and our celebration !

We went to Gaucho on the recommendation of our sons, they raved about the steaks and atmosphere. We were a group of 4 in our 50s, it has a nice ambience darkish but not too dark with background music but not too loud, it was very busy but we had good service from a very nice waiter from Indonesia. We made a mistake with what we thought were starters but were raw fish ( Ceviche ). the Steak was delicious but very expensive considering it came with nothing, you paid extra for chips, vegetables, sauces etc. the deserts were disappointing.

Firstly the table was 25 mins late with no offer of a complimentary drink, or even an apology in fact, not a great start. Once seated our waitress was really lovely and knowlegable, but her job was made much harder by the slightly obnoxious matre de that kept hovering round our table. When ordering the mains it transpired that there was no green beans left and nothing was offered as a substitute, so there was only one (rather poor) green vegetable side option available (on a Friday night in a steak restaurant?!) The food came out in a hurried fashion, barely had our first course plates been cleared then the steaks arrived. In their defense the steaks were good, but alongside this the red wine (at £65 for a distinctly average bottle) was served too cold, the food was badly presented and the rest was only average quality, and overall we felt that at £100 per head the meal was very overpriced for what we got. For a good steak restaurant where you feel like you 'get what you pay for' I would recommend Hawksmoor.

The only negative about our meal for four was the less than attentive style of our waitress; whether she had too many tables to serve or just a bad memory we will never really know as the coffees we ordered came well after our bill....and the bottled water didn't arrive at all. However, having said that, the food was absolutely amazing and would definitely return!

  • poor communication
    WigWam
    Dined on 21/11/2014
A lack of communication between front desk and the downstairs dining room meant that although arriving a few minutes early to enjoy a cocktail in the bar, as soon as we had taken the first sip we were "told" that we had to be seated immediately - intimating that the tables needed to be turned. We were shown to our table in a fairly full restaurant and it was soon evident that most diners were either having their first drink or being served starters. This meant that the waiting staff were under pressure and in turn, we were left unattended for long periods at a time and when we did require service there was not enough waiting staff to go around and were simply left waiting ourselves. After an hour and a half the situation eased as diners had been served. Unfortunately the disappointment was already festering - details such as being sat in a corner right next to a mirror (making it feel like we were hemmed in) which would not be a preference became annoying. Eventually, the tension from the waiting staff also eased and in turn their manner softened. The last part of the meal was more enjoyable than the first but we had already decided to part before dessert. What should have been a very enjoyable experience with superb Argentinian meat was overall, disappointing and for a cocktail, starter, main for two people and the total experience so underwhelming £185 was disproportionate and unjustifiable. The waiter turned out to be a very pleasant chap (an MBA student) but there should be very much more to the evening than a pleasant waiter - he was good but Gauchos itself had let us down and overall it was a poor experience soundly beaten by less expensive alternatives.

This was the longest dinner we had... Very slow service, good looking and well presented bar staff but with not much knowledge of drinks. We also noticed the Sides menu had changed and we all preferred the old menu. The red wine menu was extensive but restaurant only had a dozen of them in stock and after 20min wait, we finally had a decent bottle. Not all negative though.. Steak was superb.

I've been to Gaucho at the O2 before, but this was my first time at the Piccadilly branch. The food, service, ambience and all around dining experience was fantastic. It is pricey, so going without a budget is the best way to enjoy your time there. I went with my friend for a celebratory dinner, and the staff all made it incredibly memorable evening. The service was incredibly attentive and could not be faulted. I even forgot a bag at the table - within minutes of leaving they called me on my mobile to assure me it was being held in a safe place until I returned for it. The food is outstanding. Cooked to perfection, the food arrived swiftly and was not only beautifully presented, but also tasted beyond words. All in all it's a wonderful place to dine.

The service from my (Italian) waiter was absolutely disappointing. I had asked for some explanation of the different cuts of meat available and all I had were reluctant answers which seemed painful for him to speak. However, what was more disappointing is that when another table of gents came in and sat near me, he gave a more than enthusiastic explanation of the entire menu! Did he not think a young woman such as myself would not be worth his tip? I also waited extended amounts of time between courses and after my meal when paying with my server nowhere to be seen. (I will say that most of the rest of the staff were pleasant enough. But for someone who dined at Heddon Street Kitchen the night before, Gaucho absolutely paled in comparison in terms of service) More importantly however, the steak was an utter disappointment. The rib eye at medium rare hardly seemed marbled. It took at least 10 back and forth motions of the knife to cut through each slice and my fingers were practically aching by the end of the meal. I would also mention that this was aided by the bluntness of the knife, which of course you would never expect at a restaurant whose speciality is steak. My advice is, go somewhere else. This is not worth the money or more importantly, a wasted meal and your time.

The whole experience was quite disappointing. Came highly recommend from by business partner how ever service and food was average to poor. Was seated by kitchen entrance. Servers not very attentive had to constantly ask for water glasses to be refilled. My steak first came out well done. Requested medium then second one came almost rare. We left immediately after main course and went elsewhere for desert. Very disappointing and unacceptable service.

Food is generally good here - I've been here many times. It is getting darker and darker each time I go which is a bit odd. I needed to use the light on my phone to read the menu. Prices are a tad high in my opinion. Three of us with main course only and no wine spent £160! I am not sure why they think it's worth that. I think that just priced me out of going back.

This was a birthday surprise, and a real let down and disappointment. Service was poor, waiter was rather arrogant and just seemed to address us as another tourist, woth no care or attention that you woudl expect. Meat board was waffled through at 100 mph, and clearly he would much prefer to be doing something else! Felt a total waste of money and a dampner on our evening, which up till this point, had been great. Drinks were not ordered until food was ordered and arrived with starter. After visiting the City chain numerous of times, where the service is great, it was an eye opener, for how wrong it could go and little attention to detail. Ha snow put me off visiting any of the chains, as it feels a total waste of money, arrogant staff and food that i could have produced better at home. Medium rare is just that, not medium/well done. Would have expected more from a steak restaurant.

We knew this would be an evening to try our patience when it took 20 mins to get our first drink. In summary, the steaks were good but the service was appalling. It was a case of style over substance - elaborate descriptions of the steak which we couldn't hear because the music was so loud and the waitress spoke in a robotic fashion as if it was the 100th time she'd had to explain the different cuts. She seemed determined to steer us towards the most expensive cut and we found ourselves having to repeat the order more than 3 times before she got it right. Getting a jug of tap water for the table proved impossible - we had to rely on infrequent top-ups from a small carafe - and when we ordered the cheese board we were informed they had run out. In the end, we decided our evening had been like a night at Fawlty Towers - without the fun. Pity as the Hampstead and Charlotte Street branches were good. Would never go back or recommend

This time, I went to Gaucho Piccadilly with no expectation and it was surprisingly good. Service was good as always. The steak was almost as perfect as those you can normally get at Hawksmoor but cheaper. If this is their usual standard, I would definitely go back there again.

The atmosphere was great, the food was amazing, so delicious. Never had a steak like it! They also gave us a free glass of wine and a dessert as it was my boyfriend's birthday. The waiter was appalling at the end of the meal he insisted the service charge was added separately to the credit card bill and was tying to work out why we hadn't put 10% on for him ( we had put 15%!) he was arguing with us in front of everyone that you haven't put 10% on the bill for me!! We complained to the manager on the way out about the waiters attitude (it's not our fault he can't tell the difference between 10% & 15%!) but nothing was done - overall a very embarrassing end to a meal with poor service
