A word from Gaylord Restaurant - London
A Cuisine as warm as the land of its birth, Indian food is complex, spicy, multi-flavoured and hearty. For over 50 years, Gaylord has been taking London to the plains of North India on a culinary journey spiced with splendour, history and rich, unforgettable flavours.
Here at Gaylord we host a festival of Mughlai Fare, which includes the exotic dishes created specially for the Maharajas, Nawabs and the elite of Erstwhile North Indian states. We endeavour not only to present you with these specialities in the most authentic form, a genuine effort is also made to pamper you in the royal style and in the best Indian tradition. So permit us to take you on an adventurous gourmet experience with our Tandoori Specialities, delicately prepared curries with distinct characteristics of their own and a host of desserts to choose from that will leave a lingering taste urging you to come back to us to recapture the spirit of Royal India. Diner Reviews
  • "We had a 6;30 weekday reservation and when we arrived, there was no one else in the restaurant. But within an hour, the place was packed. The service was very attentive although our waiter was very business-like rather than 'friendly'. Didn't matter. The food was wonderful especially the lamb korma and black dal. The garlic naan was the best I've ever had. For three adults, we additionally ordered a chicken tandoori and rice and had plenty to eat. With 3 beers, the total bill was 89£. I would describe this restaurant as upscale Indian so if you are looking for that kind of ambience with excellent food, Gaylord will not disappoint."

  • "I enjoyed my meal here but it was on the expensive side for a curry. The TopTable 20% deal helped! I will go back."

  • "Went to Gaylords, the most unlikely name for an Indian restaurant, with two business colleagues one lunch time recently. It was v quiet yet the service was slow but the food good"

  • "It was a good experience as always though starter portion was quite small. Without top table 50% off it can be rather expensive but with the offer it is still expensive about 40£ for 2 with a coke each 2 starters and 2 main courses no dessert quite a nice great once a while.."

  • "Excellent food! Bit of a wait when we got there but not a problem as we had booked and our table was ready. Very busy but we were served promptly. Hadn't had dishes like here since India."

  • "Food was ok, over priced for what it was. Service was very poor, had to wait an age for drinks, had to ask several times, starters were bought out seperately, so no one could eat together, made a point of requesting the mains were all bought out together, but of course the same happened again. Complained and were told they were on their way. What didn't help was they had one person bringing food to everyone in the restaurant and the management just swanning round taking orders!! Wouldn't go there again or recommend!!"

  • "Hi, We had the veg options and they were good. You are paying for location and ambiance."

  • "We spent a month in London and discovered the Gaylord by accident. Including takeaway, we ate there 7 times. We tried other Indian restaurants but none measured up and we found ourselves saying, "This would be better at the Gaylord!" The food is imaginative and delicious. Recommended: any tandoori, any chicken, chana peshawari (amazing), dilli ki aloo tikki (brilliant!), any lamb, cauliflower chilli fry, garlic naan, bhatura. We didn't know how good chicken masala could be till we tried the Gaylord's. We didn't like the dals as much (order the chickpeas instead) or the fish (a little dry). Service is warm and friendly and very efficient. Do book ahead. They get crowded. Next time in London, we'll be back."

  • "We are regular customers and this visit didn't disappoint. High quality food, innovative but thankfully avoiding the trend to go so far away from tradition you don't recognise anything. If you love Indian food, this is the best!"

  • "the food was good but we were put at a table by a column and awkwardly witty as a group of 3 even though half of the restaurant was empty. We love this restaurant but it was a bit greasy and less spicy than usual."
    dined on 17/02/2014
  • "We had a buy a gift voucher. Were treated like second class citizens. we asked if we could swap the deserts for sides and were even willing to pay we were simply told "no". we asked if we could have coriander on the nan bread and again were simply told "no". Very small portions and very limited menu. would not go back."

  • "I have been going to Gaylord for many years. This time unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. The food was lacking in flavour and cold. Attention to detail was absolutely missing. I shall not be visiting again."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "The Gaylord is an authentic Indian restaurant, and all the dishes are excellent. The lamb and fish curries are outstanding, as are the breads. The service was excellent, but as last orders for Sunday lunch are at 2.30pm it is best to allow plenty of time."

  • "Fantastic customer service, staff were very friendly and made us feel well come"

  • "A charming atmosphere with delicious food and good service. I would recommend it to all my friends and colleagues. Ideal for business lunches and romantic dinners."

  • "We went to this restaurant for lunch and it was fairly quiet and relaxed. We had the dabba and other indiividual dishes. Everything was lovely. The service was good. It is a little expensive compared to other Indian restaurants but the location is convenient for shopping while being on a quiet street. Worth a visit."

  • "We enjoyed our meal at the Gaylord. The food was good quality and served hot. There was plenty of choice so everyone found something that they really wanted to eat. The butter chicken and chicken tikka masala were nice and tender and well-spiced. The service was a bit abrupt. When we came - we sat a table that had not yet been set. While we waited for our two friends we thought the table would be set properly but in the end it never was. I had to ask for napkins midway through the meal as we still didn't have any. The restaurant has high ceilings and is well-lit so is a good choice to take guests who want to sample an Indian dinner. However, I thought the prices were still a bit too high for what was on offer."
    dined on 29/12/2013
  • "From the moment we got there to the moment we left, we were treated like royalty. The staff were amazing, funny, friendly and willing to put up with 11 LOUD teachers, celebrating the end of term. Food was prompt and delicious, wine was flowing, they catered for our every need. Will be going back!"
    dined on 19/12/2013
  • "A good lunch - very good value but would have liked bigger portions. Service was very good, though"
    dined on 17/12/2013
  • "The water arrived after 45 mints of us arriving, having asked for a it a few times, and when we asked again, we were shouted a by the manager: " Can't you see how busy we are..!" The starters arrived after one hour and the quality was below average. The main meal took another 50 minutes and not served together. The manager gave us the bill having already added 12.5% service charge, and £10 for the table, and asked to remove it, he started arguing, and shouting, pointing his finger saying: " you are making me angry now". Could it be that we were a group of 7 women!! It was our friends' birthday and he ruined it for her. It was extremely expensive for a poor quality food and absolutely terrible service."
    dined on 11/12/2013
  • "I was really disappointed with Gaylord's. It was extremely expensive for what we got and to top it off a 12.5% (£16) service charge was added to our bill. The service was poor and quite rushed and there wasn't much meat in the dishes either. Most likely you are just paying to be close to Regents Street. Bit of a shame as i was looking forward to eating here! ;("

  • "Good quality & authentic food cooked in a tried & trusted way. Possibly not the nadire of Indian cooking but very satisfying nevertheless. Perhaps could do with a bit more atmosphere."

  • "Had another outstanding meal at Gaylord. Very fresh. Recommend the lamb chops, superb"

  • "The best Indian Food in London. I've going for decades!!!"
    dined on 02/12/2013
  • "Excellent food served in somewhat traditional surroundings at this well established Indian restaurant in central London. The flavours are somewhat unusual compared to the ‘standard issue’ Indian restaurant and make the eating experience a most pleasurable one."
    dined on 25/08/2013
  • "None of us had been before, a nephew recommended it as a place he'd always wanted to visit - we all thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and would recommend to anyone"
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "Good food, smart decor and a friendly atmosphere await you at the Gaylord Restaurant. Recommended for a pre or post theatre dinner and for special occasions."

  • "Chola Batura is good Music & ambience is nice Prices are a bit top end though!"
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "What a great place to eat! I know this restaurant has been around for a long time but there's no slacking off as far as quality of food and service is concerned. We were a group of four dining on a busy Friday evening. The restaurant was full and very busy but the welcome and attention we received set the tone for the rest of the evening. We were not rushed and the delicious food arrived in good time. A top class Indian restaurant. K"

  • "i always enjoy my visits to Gaylord Restaurant serving excellent curries with a variety of flavours. the Poppodom is outstanding."
    dined on 20/11/2013
  • "Booked for Sunday dinner for my family and guests visiting us from abroad. Service appeared good but our orders has been ignored for two items. The food seemed old and not fresh, in particular the rice looked and tasted old and reheated. Portions are miniature. Very much over priced while the quality of food is worse than other local Indian take away restaurant. As an average it is 3 times more expensive than an average good Indian restaurant in Ealing. Not recommended!"
    dined on 17/11/2013
  • "Found the food nice, service good and a very nice place. The prices, in particular for drinks, I found to be a bit excessive."

  • "We enjoyed a very nice meal in a nice atmosphere. Attentive waiting staff."

  • "Never disappoints. Table of 10 and everyone said that the food was exceptonal. Best Indian in central London. Better than those with celebity chefs and michelin stars!"
    dined on 07/11/2013
  • "Gaylord is very convenient if you work near Oxford Circus like me and in fact on a Friday lunchtime the restaurant was full of office workers. The food is great, beautifully cooked with the right amount of spices. Service a bit slow."
    dined on 08/11/2013
  • "Good traditional Indian "restaurant" food; as you would expect in a restaurant in Mumbai. Ambience and service was OK. We had to remind them to take off the 20% Toptable discount (the first bill didn't include it). I would go again; as the food does remind me of eating out in India."
    dined on 02/11/2013
  • "We arrived for lunch on Sunday and although the restaurant was empty we were given a warm welcome. Gradually, the tables next to us started to fill up but this meant it was hard to get the attention of the staff and we were sat waiting for them to clear our plates for a while. The food was good but could have been a bit spicier for our tastes."
    dined on 03/11/2013
  • "Had high expectation of the restaurant and were slightly disappointed when visited it at the weekend. Not much atmosphere in the restuarant."
    dined on 03/11/2013
  • "Always great food at Gaylord but really need to train their staff in communication skills."
    dined on 16/10/2013
  • "I went to Gaylords on the 22nd of October 2013. They gave the best experience I have ever gotten celebrating my birthday in a restaurant. I would certainly recommend every food lover to have a wonderful meal there with the ones they love. Gaylords aka "HappyLords" made my birthday the most special and perfect. I thank Gaylords again for the amazing meal."
