A word from Goodman City
Goodman specialises in steak. Our chefs source the best beef from both sides of the Atlantic – from USDA ‘Prime’ corn-fed herds to grass-fed Scottish beef, grain-fed Irish Angus and rare breed Belted Galloway from Devon – to present a uniquely British interpretation of a New York grill. All of our meat is matured on-site – you can see it for yourself in our glass-walled dry-ageing room – then we cook it over charcoal for a fabulously smoky flavour. Couple that with one of London’s largest collections of American red wine and you’ve a match made in carnivore heaven. Our City of London venue is just round the corner from the Bank of England.   • "If you're looking for a good steak, Goodman is an excellent choice. The decor is simple, but the effective. The restaurant is clean. The tables are a little too close for an intimate evening. This is more a business venue. The service is slick and efficient, the food top notch. It's an upper tier steak restaurant, so that's what we tried. I had the king prawn starter which was served on a lightly flavoured sauce and a reasonable portion. I ordered the fillet (they don't have a rump option) blue. My partner the same, but well done. Both were delivered done to perfection. The vegetable sides we ordered were both delicious. This is not a cheap joint, but the service and food mean it is worth it. Service at 12.5% is charged."

  • "We had a good meal and the staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself has a nice buzzy atmosphere although seating and bare wooden tables were more suited to your average pub. Steaks are £30 or £40 plus and it is so easy to over order on sides (all £5 each), the wine list rapidly reaches 3 figures and a "discretionary" 12.5% is automatically added to the bill so we came out £750 lighter for dinner for 4. We left happy but looking back it was a little on the expensive side."

  • "We had the Irish/Scottish grass-fed fillet on medium rare and it was FANTASTIC. Simply melt-in-the-mouth! However, the sides were rather disappointing, although the portions were huge - we had the mushrooms and truffle chips, but we could not taste the truffle at all. The staff were wonderful. We had a six-year-old with us, and they 'custom-made' a chicken dish for her and charged us accordingly (reduced price). We will definitely go there again."

  • "Took my husband for his birthday. The waitress was very knowledgeable and we decided to try at Chateaubriand for the first time....it was absolutely divine, you could have cut the meat with a butter knife. I wasn't such a fan of their mac 'n' cheese, but my husband said the chips were lovely. We ordered a pudding which they sent with an iced birthday message, which was really appreciated. When I got home I realised the pudding had been made complimentary too as it was special occasion which was such a nice touch. Would definitely recommend for a special treat!"

  • "I go to Goodman every now and then. Whatever the occasion (not that one is needed), the food and service has been superb. I do prefer it to Hawksmoor, though both are excellent. It is a shame that the lobster mac and cheese has been removed from the menu but the version with truffle sauce is also amazing. Just go there - you will never be disappointed."

The food and service was amazing but the staff also made a fuss of us and generously gave yes complimentary drink and also made a Birthday cake out of the desert by adding a candle and message ( in chocolate). Really nice touch. We had 3 courses and every plate was high quality, and very tasty. It was an really excellent meal. The staff were helpful friendly and welcoming and we have recommended friends and colleagues to visit. We work on Cheapside and will also be adding Goodman to our list of venues for business lunch. We score you 10 out of 10"

  • "A decent performance by Goodman, exceptionally good scallops to start, steaks tasty/well cooked/decent char grilled taste and we had some good pointers on the wine list. Service was generally good (although our table saw many different individuals through-out the evening) with the exception of two points right at the end which slightly let the overall performance down: 1. An extra £80 bottle of red found its way onto the bill, it happens and understandable, a pretty unapologetic reaction to it was a bit of a shame. 2. When paying the waitress appeared to be p*ssed off by the fact 6 of us wanted to pay separately - ordinary fine, but our bill came to £150+ per person!!! "

  • "We ate here on Tuesday night with our sons. I couldn't hear a word they or the waiter said. I was told that an Amaretto Sour was similar to a Pisco Sour (nothing like it). I ordered a glass of Sauv Blanc and received Chenin Blanc - the waiter tried to persuade me that it was a blend of the two until I insisted he changed it for the right wine. I ordered rare fillet and it came medium - it took over 10 minutes for the right one to come by which time the meal was half over. The men ordered truffle chips and normal ones came. The waiter said we should order 2 portions of chips so I said I don't eat chips yet they sent me a free portion with my second steak! They still charged for the steak."

I cannot rate the staff highly enough and the food was incredible. This was my 4th time to Goodmans and it never fails to disappoint, whether it be for a business lunch, date night or for a special occasion, Goodmans always pulls it out the bag :) "

A small complaint but only because the standard is so high the rest of the week!"

  • "I have been here a few times before and always had a great time, but my experience last week was mediocre at best. We arrived and as we were only a party of two we were shoved next to the cutlery draws/service area. When I asked to be seated at a nicer booth (as other parties of 2 had been), I was told there was nothing available. We were eventually sat at the bar which had a bit more ambience but I was generally very unimpressed. I will not be rushing back. The Hawksmore is far nicer and the staff are far more accommodating."
