A word from Hakkasan Hanway Place

Hakkasan Hanway Place is the original Hakkasan restaurant. This Michelin starred Chinese restaurant was designed by the famed Christian Liaigre, the intricate wooden lattice screens, carved out of dark English oak, invite discerning guests for a unique dining experience with contemporary cuisine from Chef Tong Chee Hwee. The menu has a strong Chinese ethnic identity with an ethos of Cantonese cooking.

Hakkasan Hanway Place have recently launched ‘Dim Sum Sundays’. Priced at £48 or £58 per person, Dim Sum Sundays is a weekly lunch event with music from Hakkasan lounge DJs, available every Sunday from 12pm until 5.00pm.

The £58 menu includes a cocktail from Hakkasan’s award-winning list to start, followed by a half bottle of Louis Roederer Brut Premier Champagne per person ( or a Magnum per 4 guests) and concludes with a digestive cocktail to enjoy with dessert.

We went to Hakkasan as part of our 1st wedding anniversary celebration. I had high expectIons of Hakkasan and though the food was nice I wouldn't say it was good value for money. Also we found the tables are rather close together so you don't feel you have much privacy, which affected the overall ambience. Overall it was nice but I don't feel the urge to rush back.

I was dining with an out-of-towner friend who is an omnivore. I am a vegan. My friend was happy with her soft shell crab and pork belly stir fry and I had options available which included 4 vegetable stir fry and an asparagus and lotus root side dish. Both very nice. Cocktails were good. Ambience perfect - great background music and a good buzz about the restaurant. The lighting perfect for first dates/couples and it compliments the dark wood decor of the restaurant well. Our only gripes: my friend wasn't able to order a single portion of egg fried rice (serves 4) so was limited to the steamed rice and we were greeted with a bit of a cold front from front of house when we floated the idea of a pre-dinner drink before going to the table.

The food was very well done. Tasted super. Roasted chicken was exceptional. Soft shell carb starter and Fish were a little too oily but still good. Portions are quite generous, therefore there is a good value for price. Ambience was loud around 10pm as the restaurant was full. Chic ambience but also relaxing. We went late on a busy friday night but the service was still good.

  • Asking to leave table - outrageous!

    Dined on 12/9/2014
Ok, in the reservation was written that the table was reserved for two hours - but when we were about to order a dessert wine to pair, we were said that they expected us to leave after two hours. At this point we were on the table for around 2:20 hs. It didn't matter that we order the best course for six and had 3 bottles of wine. When my wife asked a tea, they refused to serve in the table - only in the bar. Never heard of this kind of thing. And wonder if all the restaurants follow this kind of "psychiatrist appointment" time policy. Ridiculous. If you go there, RUSH to enjoy your meal.

The food is amazing but the staff can be rude sometimes as they are very busy and have a very limited time you have to stay in the restaurant so if you want to eat on your own time, book later and make sure you can have the table for the entire evening. If you are looking for a restaurant for special occasions, this can't be the one as you have a very limited time to finish the meal, otherwise, wonderful food!

Hakkasan was fine. It's a good Chinese restaurant at best. It. cramped, dark, noisy, food is ok, service is rushed, they pack you in and then pack you out quickly to get more people in. I certainly did not have a Michelin starred experience that you get at other restaurants. Disappointed.

Visited the restaurant with my friend and my daughter(4years old)for dinner, this was our second time to dine there but we loved the whole experience. Ordered Dimsum platter to start with, then ordered the Duck with Truffe which was super delicious(and looks good too). Please keep it in mind that hey can provide only whole Beijing duck (no half or quarter),so ordered the roast duck with truffe instead, but I was very happy for the choice we made. Atmosphere is cool and special, I'm sure that your guests will be impressed.

We have be en to the wonderful Hakkasan Hanway Place on numerous occasions, and have always marvelled at the consistent quality an greatness of the experience. Our lunch on Thurs Sept 11th was very disappointing. Even at peak service time the restaurant only had 20 tables taken, which was surprising, the service was slick, however the real disappointment was our food. Wagu beef £(61) and Silver Cid (£35) was way below par, lacking the usual wow factor. With wine the meal was just shy of £350, for which I expect the best. This may have been just a blip, or given how quiet the place was, maybe Hakkasan has had its day? I hope not.

I originally thought it's the 'Chinese food' for foreigners but found that unexpectedly authentic. They offer a big variety of food and the presentation was amazing. I like the dessert with crispy rice, which is a creative fusion idea. The only downside is there are too many tables and the place is a bit noisy. I would expect a more spacious and quiet restaurant paying this price-a fine dining.

We were on a 2 hour turn around but the service was slow for drinks and starters. Then they pushed us to order pudding before we were ready and tried to refuse us coffee and presented the bill without being asked for it. I explained we had waited 20 mins for cocktail in the first instance so should be allowed coffee. The stroppy manager came and took our coffee order. Overall food and cocktails were absolutely lovely, service was rude, pushy and lacklustre.

too dark and music too loud for a 1star Michelin restaurant. Service forgot to bring us warm towels and also champagne we ordered. Champagne was only brought after we reminded the lady. We waited so long for ordering the dessert and coffee so we paid without ordering it. Restaurant cannot compete on an international level...works out only in London. Nice but not more.

Having heard good things, Hakkasan had been on my "Go to" list for quite some time but i left feeling disappointed. The food was nice but not outstanding and given the prices of each dish, I was expecting to be wow'd. Prawn balls for starters were big and meaty. But go to any chinese restaurant which serves Crab balls and they'll taste exactly the same. The soft shell crab was very dry yet oily at the same time. The black truffle roast duck was cooked well but nothing special. Highlight was the Rib Eye Beef with Merlot which was amazingly tender and full of flavour. Waitresses also couldnt wait to get us out of there as the restaurant was extremely busy. You'll find the same quality in any decent chinese restaurant for half the price.

The food was great, we had the basic set menu. However, the service needs more coordination. We received our aperifts just after the starters were served, and the sommelier wanted to serve our wine at the same time. The aperitifs took too long, and it should be easy enough to coordinate drinks and food. Also, during the entire meal, one of the waiters were hovering close to our table, eager to remove plates and move the meal along. We had a table at 20:45, and was done well before 22:30. There shouldn't have been any need to rush it. But, as I said first, the food is great, both starters, mains and desserts were tasty and well presented.

We had a very nice meal, one of my favourite spots every time I visit London. The dim sum and the cod were oustanding, sesame prawns and sweet and sour pork a little too ordinary for a place like this. The people set was a little less happening than usual, I guess the hype crowd migrated to the Mayfair one. Service very attentive, we even got a very professional Italian waiter.

We tried the £35 "taste of Hakkasan" menu as an early evening meal post work, and were delighted to see that several of our favourites, including the Seabass with Honey were included on the list. The cocktails are wonderful, and the desserts sublime, but the real stars of the show are the wonderful dim sum and main courses. Alongside the Seabass, the braised rip of beef with merlot is worthy of a mention. Portions could be larger - I wouldn't choose this is you're really hungry, but it's a great way to see what's on the menu, and plan an alacarte return!
