The Sharing menu is a great a great idea where you & a partner share a starter & a desert & pick your main course from the normal menu for £20 per couple. It seeded odd at first but the starters & desserts where presented very nicely & the main course was also delicious. The meal was an ideal size for lunch & very satisfying. Our group were delighted with our meals. The service was very good as well & the waitress was very helpful explaining the concept. Well done will definitely be back. The Hangleton Manor also has a large garden for a nice day,

We love the Hangleton manor although we have not eaten there yet the ambiance and air of efficiency, politeness and helpfullness is outstanding. Food options are impressive. The staff are very attentive and polite, and the setting is beautiful. We as a family of adults are arranging to have a meal there in the near future, I am very much looking forward to that.

Three of us ate last Saturday. It was busy but not hugely so. We were welcomed and seated promptly. The service was good as was the food. One of us had specific requirements (eg no salt) which were catered for with no problems. One of us was disappointed with her dessert which was removed and which did not appear on the bill. One of us had not visited Hangleton Manor before and was very taken with the surroundings. Altogether a pleasant experience.

I visit here every so often in the hope the food might have improved - it hasn't. Its a lovely building and the beer and wine are good but the food is still poor. I imagine that a lot of the food is brought in ready chilled and then heated in microwave. The problem is that frequently it does not seem to have been heated through fully. But hey, with so many good ready cooked meals now available in supermarkets I feel why should I pay double to eat the same here. You need to choose very carefully from the menu. This could be such a fantastic place - they just need some good cooks.

We visited for the first time last year, so this was our second visit. I like the fact it is easy to park and also it is a good menu. We opted for the lunch for two £20, which was very good value. A very pleasant waitress. We had to wait a very long time for our starter and I had to point out we were still waiting well over half an hour. A chef brought it to us and apologised saying there was a new chef in the kitchen learning the ropes. I would certainly visit again one day when in the area.

food great, service terrible. We had to get our own menus and when we were seated, we were put in a dark un lit part of the room, had to ask for lights to be out on. Waited 25 mins before we saw a server again and then we had to go to them rather than them come to us. Also some of the vegatables they advertised with meals, they didnt actually have! we eat early in the evening so really no excuse for the vegatable of the poor service. On a good note, the meal I had, was lovely, shame we had to eat it in the dark and wait so long to be served.

I took my family out to lunch on a Saturday afternoon as it was my wifes birthday. The staff were pleasant, the service was excellent. The timing between courses was spot on and the food was plentiful and delicious. We did not feel at all rushed. We were seated at a round table, which was nice as sometimes on a long table the people at the end can feel a little excluded. The ambience was that of a well run, happy establishment, set in a beautiful surroundings. All in all, everything that I hoped that it would be.

I remember when The Manor was an empty decaying building. It has been through many hands since then. The current management have turned it into a beautiful and peaceful place to dine. When I visit my mother these days, we try to fit in a meal there as it has an excellent atmosphere, the staff are friendly and the food is generally very good. The wine list is not too long and offers a selection of reasonably priced reds whites and rosés from around the world. I recommend a visit if you are in the area. The mini puds are genius.

Really really really bad food. Having read the previous reviews about bad service, bad food etc we thought we'd give the Manor benefit of doubt. We shouldn't have - We went on Father's Day and the only saving grace was that we complained and we're not charged for three of the five main meals! Great staff - Ashleigh and Nikki well done:)... Hall & Woodhouse should be ashamed of serving up such horrible horrible food - mushrooms tasteless, kebabs plastic, beef tough, fish main thrown together from 'packets', veggie stew thoughtless, Yorkshire puds cardboard and roast potatoes not fluffy or tasty.

We tend to eat here when my parents come to visit 2 or 3 times a year. Overall the food was below par. The roast beef was tough. My wife's lasagne and chips were burnt and the time we waited from ordering to our meal was 45 mins v slow. I can honestly say I'd think twice about coming again. The only plus points were the puddings were good, especially the summer trifle, and it's a lovely setting in one of the city's oldest buildings. It needs to up its game though as I wouldn't recommend it on this showing.

We use the Hangleton Manor in preference to other Brighton and Hove restuarants. The food is always of a high quality, with a good choice of menu. We were in a party of seven, with one child and a vegetarian. Every one of our party enjoyed the food and the vegetarian is looking for another date to go back as she was so impressed with the selection from a main stream menu. We were well attended to without being rushed. A great evening had by all.

We went for dinner on a Saturday evening at 7pm. I can't remember being so impressed by a restaurant. Despite the place seeming quite busy, the food came out promptly. Our waitress was lovely, and we never had to wait long for anything. The whitebait I had was the best I've ever had - really fresh, and not covered in batter or oil. All of us were happy with all three courses that we had. The prices also seemed very reasonable to me, although I am used to Cambridge! After a lovely evening, we settled the bill left. Around 10 minutes later, I received a phone call to say that they were worried we had made a mistake with the tip - it turned out that we had misread the bill, and given a 50% tip! We were very impressed with their honesty!

On arrival at our table, we where 'bombarded' with 'what's not available' or 'we only have one left of' So not a good start. This didn't really set a welcoming mood nor did the 'robot talk' waiter/waitress. My friend had the burger, which she said was 'ok' but I ordered the Liver and Bacon, which was a very small portion, the mash had just been re-heated, the liver was as thin as bacon and the bacon was 2 strips of pre-cooked tiny stuff you get from a deli at the supermarket. For £12.50, I would expect a'proper Liver & Bacon' dish. The food was edible and being British we just got on with it, without complaint but I didn't order any puddings or further drinks. There was only one other table occupied, so I would have expected a nicer time.

I was very disappointed about the service. It was very slow and we had to ask to be served. The waitress appeared who told us it was her first shift and asked what we wanted. She was chewing gum all the time and was not concentrating on what we were ordering. I think she should have been supervised and shown how to serve customers. The overall dining experience was poor. We waited a fair while for the food and had to ask them to clear the table. I have been to this restaurant at lunch time and it was completely different, with different staff and it was overall very good. I dont think I will be going there again after this experience. I was taken because it was my birthday. It was a waste of time. They need to upgrade their tables etc.

I booked a table to celebrate a friend's birthday. Our drinks took quite a long time to arrive, but it was quite busy. My friend and I chose the sharing menu. We shared soup, and then both chose the Beetroot and Feta salad. The beetroot was so hard I had to leave most of mine, and I only had two small pieces of Feta.Disappointing, as I could only eat the salad leaves. The ice cream was very nice, and our waitress was lovely.

Second time of dining here but unfortunately very disappointed with the food. This is such a shame because the venue is so lovely and could be a little goldmine, and there were lots of empty tables. Had roast beef on a Sunday. The meal arrived at our table within 5 mins of ordering and had obviously been sitting on a plate waiting to be heated up in the microwave. The beef was tough and chewy and the Yorkshire pudding like a piece of cardboard and veg undercooked. Fortunately the roast potatoes were lovely. Sorry, but I will not be returning and cannot recommend.

Sunday 16 March 2014. I had reserved a table in the restaurant but we had to wait for 50 minutes for our meal. Table service was largely absent and we had to go and find them for drinks etc. The justification for our delayed meals was the demand from the garden by casual visitors. Deserts were billed as taking up to 30 minutes, so we paid and left. As we passed through the bar there was a queue of about twelve people waiting to be served. However charming the environment and however good the food and drink, something needs to be done to the management of high demand to look after customers who book a table in advance and expect to be served in a reasonable time.

The table was booked for midday and with it being beautiful weather we decided to head down 10 - 15 mins early so that we could enjoy a drink in the garden. To my surprise the place was closed. There was no signage suggesting it should be closed or indeed when if would open. Oddly enough the car park was full and the grounds littered with groups of people looking lost and confused. Eventually the doors opened (10 mins AFTER the time my table was booked). We had booked a table for 4 and yet there wasn't a table for 4 laid and so we had another wait. Food arrived an hour after ordering and drinks we asked for never arrived although they did appear on the bill! All in all, nice menu and food ruined by the service.

The Hangleton Manor is an amazing building - in incongruous surroundings of a housing estate - so feels a bit like a hidden gem. The only downsides are that it feels a bit 'chainy' in places - such as the unchanging menu (although they do have specials) only serving Badger ales and the focus on burgers, wings, lasagne etc. Service is good, great place to bring the family, and the garden is great in the summer. Would like to see them change the menu a bit more and have events (such as live music and quizzes). This would make it feel a bit more like a local pub with a sense of community and less of a chain establishment!

From the moment we walked in and stood at the bar for five mins due to no one around, I knew it wasn't going to be good! Shown to our table. Had to wait ten mins before someone came to take drinks order. Waited ages for them to arrive. Menu claimed they were famous for their chicken wings, what a waste of money!! Over £5 for a plate of bones! We all know chicken wings aren't exactly full of meat, but these were ridiculous. Waited another 50mins for our main lunch, a burger which wasn't even homemade, and an American style pulled turkey sub with fries. There was no evidence of any pulled turkey, only chewy chunks of meat. There were ingredients in it that weren't even on the menu like red peppers. Emailed to complain, still waiting to hear!

We both had severe stomach cramps and diarrohea for the whole week, even today my stomach is still not right. My self and my father both had roast beef and both had horse radish sauce. The rest of the party were fine. We are sure it was down to our meal. I will not write a bad review as i feel it is simply a one off incident and i have ate at the manor many times as my father is a local, i do feel that you need to know what has happend. The Manor is a great place for a meal but the menu is too limited. The food is good, bordering on very good, BUT there are not enough fish or seafood dishes. It would also be nice to be able to have boiled or baked potato with one's chosen meal rather than chips chips and more chips (if served in a tin I will send it back). We used to go once a month, sometimes more, and always be proud to take visiting friends and relatives, but there is something missing. In short, good, but far from great!
