A word from Hawksmoor Seven Dials
Winner of the Time Out Award for 'Best New Restaurant 2011', Hawksmoor Seven Dials has wowed fans and critics alike ever since it opened in 2010. Tucked away in a quiet street, the restaurant is loacted in the old Watney-Combe brewery and has retained some of the building's original features.
The 142-cover restaurant serves generously sized steaks, simply cooked on a charcoal grill, using beef from traditional British breeds supplied by award winning butchers The Ginger Pig.
Situated in the heart of London's Theatreland, Hawksmoor Seven Dials also has express pre and post theatre menus. The bar is ideal for casual burgers and hot dogs or for some of the best cocktails in London, including old school drinks and new.

  • "The food was very nice and we liked the decor/ambience, even if it wasn't what I expected having seen the menu and prices. The waiter was really good, advising on the different dishes and wines which we liked. Just two issues, I think it should have cost less. I knew the prices before hand having seen the menu, but I don't quite see the justification for them being a little high having now been there. Also I mentioned on the booking form that it was a special occasion, as it had a specific box asking me to say so and nothing came of it, so I'm not sure what the point of asking me was. Still a good place though, the issues are small."

  • "The timing of the courses was just right, but, and this is probably because the restaurant was busy, we did struggle sometimes to get the level of service attention that we would have liked in the restaurant, (our bar waiter was superb). In addition I spotted that four pints of lager had been erroneously added to my bill and after a brief discussion and pointing out none of us had drunk beer they were deducted. Unfortuantely, I did not spot the double absolut vodka and orange which we were also charged for, and did not have, until I returned home. Disappointing! Sommelier, however, was very good and helpful."

  • "First visit to the Hawksmoor. Lovely venue, great staff, service was great and service was prompt. We went for the 2-course express menu. I went for the mackerel 'pot' which came with some kind of toast which were risking the integrity of my teeth (the fish was very nice, though). Main course was the house burger, which in itself was lovely, albeit with a funky tasting dressing on the side salad and 'triple cooked' chips which honestly were more like triple cooked daily for the past week. My lovely lady had a salad starter and the fish main course, and whilst happy, we both didn't think it was worth nearly £40/head with one drink each. I think the mistake was not going for steak, but the quality of the non-steak dishes does make us wonder.."

  • "This restaurant is 'hidden' away in Covent Garden making it more an insider location than packed with tourists which is a nice change :-) 1930's ambience in a restored basement, really cool and nice. The food is amazing, fantastic starter: Beef Tartare. Highly recommend it!! The D-Rump steak is a great size and very tasty. The sides have renewed my faith in side dishes of London restaurants after some disappointment experiences at other high end establishments. The value for price is great. Highly recommend for meat and steak lovers. You got plenty for your money here in a great ambience."

  • "For the amount of money that the lunch cost, it had expected more from Hawksmoor; the wine was uninteresting and expensive for what it was, the potted mackerel was over-salty and poor, the end of fillet was fine but I have enjoyed much better chips elsewhere; the restaurant was less than half full and the wifi wasn't working. I won't be rushing back."

  • "I can't recommend the Potted Beef enough as a starter (probably best to share!) Of course the steak is out of this World, but it's the attention and quality to the sides and sauces that sets Hawksmoor apart. The marrowbone gravy is incredible and anywhere that serves a half lobster as a side is instantly in my favorites list. We laughed at our colleague when he ordered Mac & Cheese but were all highly jealous and begging to try some when it arrived."

YOu pay a little more than a gastropub and you get better food and better service, in a wonderful environment. I think £20 for a Sunday roast of this quality is money well spent. The beef was outstanding; the Yorkshire pudding large and fluffy and there was not an element on the plate that didn't work (spinach, half a bulb of roast garlic, roast onion, caramelised carrots and bone marrow gravy). It's a special occasion place and well worth it. Highly recommended."

Friendly and efficient service beforehand and throughout the meal, and the ambience was great as usual. Great steaks and sides as always and the deserts were also excellent. Left happily full."

  • " Pros : Fab meal. Great ambience. Fantastic server Naomi, friendly, warm and engaging - spot on recommendations. Cons : Pricey and Slightly surprised to see 2 other servers (whilst we were having pre dinner drinks in the bar area) dip straws into a customers drink withdrawing the straws with thumbs over the end to extract some of the customers drink, then proceeded to take the drink to the customer. Whilst clean straws were used by each waitress (and no double dipping took place), the bartender didn't bat an eyelid, so I would assume this is a regular occurrence - as a first time customer not a great first impression!!"

For the expense, I expect more from Hawksmoor. I have always rated it highly before but wouldn't rush back after this visit."

Our waitress was a little overworked with a lot of tables to attend to but the service was still great, professional yet friendly. She even took note that it was his birthday and sent over a special desert without me requesting! Rib-eye and Fillet steak were perfect as always and stands up to being the preferred restaurant out of the bunch. My only negative point is that the tables for two are too close together, the intimacy is lost a little."

  • "Booked this as part of our honeymoon weekend in London. The waiting staff are casual and friendly but also highly professional - not an easy balancing act. The food is utterly fabulous, from the generously-portioned starters to the mind-blowingly brilliant steak and sides... ooh, the crunchy top on the macaroni cheese...! It's definitely not food on a budget, but as soon as you take a bite you can see why. Plus, since they knew we were on our honeymoon, they threw in a couple of free glasses of Prosecco - a very nice, and much appreciated touch! :-) We plan on revisiting for our one year anniversary."
