A word from Hawksmoor Spitalfields
Named after Nicholas Hawksmoor's Christchurch Spitalfields, just down the road, Hawksmoor Spitalfields opened in 2006 to rave reviews, reigniting London's love affair with steak. Hawksmoor Spitalfields is an unpretentious, quality obsessed steak house, serving exclusively British beef from traditional breeds, supplied by award winning butchers The Ginger Pig. The 115 cover restaurant also has an extensive wine list featuring favourite small producers and big vineyards alike. Continued

  • "Specifically went for the Sunday Roast & wasn't disappointed. Perfectly cooked beef served with all the trimmings & a very generous plate of food. Service was perfect...attentive without being invasive, informative without being pushy & genuinely happy to serve...obviously loved his job & sign of a great team behind the scenes. We all loved it & will definitely be back to sample other parts of the menu."

  • "I love Hawksmoor and always think it is worth saving up for a visit. This was my first lunch there and it was as good as I had hoped. We had the set menu which is very good value for money when compared to the normal menu. All 3 courses were fantastically tasty and, although I did get hugely full, they were certainly worth finishing. The service was excellent and friendly."

  • "After our potted beef and Yorkshire starter we went for the Porterhouse steak a couple of sides and a bottle of Malbec. Our delightful waitress explained the different cuts to us as well as recommending an appropriate weight to select for two people. We were not disappointed! All our carnivorous desires were fulfilled. We found the service to be great, the food very good. We'd have liked a larger table as the one we were shown to was a bit squeezed, but this would be our only gripe."

  • "We had a lovely evening which was a birthday celebration. We had been recommended to the restaurant and it did not disappoint. The food was great and the service excellent - we were even given a celebratory dessert which was a lovely gesture. It was expensive but knew this before we booked. Would definitely eat there again"

  • "Small venue, excellent and attentive staff, very good cuts of meat. It's definitely an excellent steakhouse and the starters and puddings are good as well. when you arrive there's a board with all their steaks available and their weight so it's up to you to decide how big a steak you want. The one thing I would say is it's not the USA. By that I mean it's still expensive in London to get a great steak. I opted for Surf and Turf, Fillet and half a lobster which was nice, my other guests did a similar sort of thing. With starters, pudding and a bottle of wine it still came out at £100 a head. That's $150 and in the USA you'd pay a third of that. Still, the prices are what the market will pay, so London will continue to be overpriced."

  • "Service was first class with their famous steaks given a full explanation.everything was well cooked and presented. The only critisism was the grossly overpriced starters. We had the scallops at £14.50 for four scallops was outrageous."

  • "Beautifully smoked smoke salmon and succulent steaks cooked to perfection - we had a wonderful dinner. Service was friendly and helpful too. Not cheap but worth it."

  • "Good decent steaks, but service could be a lot better."

  • "Everything at Hawksmoor is very good, from the cocktails to steaks to the dessert. It's a little pricey, but definitely worth it."

  • "Having almost bankrupted myself enjoying the pleasures of a full a la carte and cocktails of an evening, it was just too tempting to pop in with a friend for the 'express' lunch menu. Good value (all things considered) and lovely food. Did miss the creamed spinach though, too good."

  • "Having already eaten here once on a busy Friday evening to celebrate my anniversary with my better half, I already knew I was in for a good time. The menu is glorious, but you need to make sure you take a look at the blackboard to see the real treats; huge cuts of Porterhouse or Rib-in that will set you salivating from the start! From starters to dessert there's something for everyone, and even if the food doesn't quite sway you, the excellent service certainly will ensure that you have a fantastic time. Not a place for a quick slap-up meal, this is where you go to savour every bite and celebrate good meat the way it should be served."

  • "Absolutely amazing! I've had good steak before, but this place was on another level!"

  • "1st time at Hawksmoor and I have to admit that their steaks are some of the best in London, though when looking at the whole experience and menu, it still lags behind my current favourite - Goodmans in Mayfair. I had the 900g Porterhouse done medium while my friend had an 850g Porterhouse done medium rare for mains together with creamed spinach, buttered greens, new potatoes, triple cooked chips and various sauces including the peppercorn and hollandaise. The steaks were cooked to perfection and they tasted superb, I did note however that my plate wasn't a tad cold, but also the sides like the creamed spinach and especially the triple cooked chips were quite poor. The new potatoes and hollandaise sauce were quite nice though."

  • "Having eaten many fantastic fillets/sirloins I was surprised by the outstanding tasteof the meat we ordered. With only some really big and heavt cuts remaining, we chose a sirloin and a fillet, chargrilled and sliced and served on a hot skillet. The meat was truly delicious. The service was good in recommending this option to us over the bigger options. The only problem, living near a wine growing region of Spain, was the price of the wines and the very loud dining room. The fact that it was so full was a good sign, as far as popularity, but it was not the romantic night out we had hoped for, due to the distance between tables and the high volume of the other diners. However, a "must visit" for any red meat lovers in the area."

  • "Thank you to Hawksmoor Spitalfields for a really lovely evening. It was my boyfriend's birthday and the service we received was excellent and the food was outstanding!! So delicious. The service was fantastic and very thoughtful considering I had briefly mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday when booking the table! Thanks!"

  • "The second Hawksmoor I've dined at. The first time was great, this time was even better! The food is quality but it's the service that makes it. Staff are welcoming and helpful - especially when you can't choose between two really good desserts!"

  • "Staff was friendly and food (steak and pork belly in particular) was delicious!"

  • "First of all, our server Caleb was fantastic - he was super friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. I had the scallops to start which were really yummy (was trying to scoop out all of the sauce left in the shells!). We shared a bone-in prime rib, cooked medium rare, which was delicious. Super tasty, tender and fatty! Which wasn't to my partners liking (he prefers less fatty cuts of meat, but we knew this when we went for it). Broccoli sides were good (as expected) and chips were a bit crunchy to my liking but fixed with the gravy we ordered with the steak! No room for dessert but they looked good :) Wine list was decent and included a fair selection of US wines (although we went for French). Hawksmoor Collins aperitif was also good!"

  • "The food, service and atmosphere at Hawksmoor Spitalfields were all great. It was busy for a Monday night which was really nice. We started with some delicious and interesting cocktails and enjoyed the food immensely. The waitress was superb - she was friendly, knowledgeable and incredibly helpful with her recommendations. It felt relaxed but special - exactly what we wanted for a birthday celebration meal!"

  • "Took my boyfriend here for his birthday meal and he / we absolutely loved it! As we ordered a T-bone to share it was difficult to have it cooked to both of our liking. He like his steak medium rare and mine medium. So the waiter suggested that we have it done medium rare and I would send a few slices back to have it done a bit longer. It was the perfect solution as we both enjoyed our steaks immensely. At the end of our meal we were presented some free mini desserts with a candle - a lovely gesture from Hawksmoor! Great staff, great food - we'll be definitely coming back!!"

  • "Took my other half here for his birthday as he like the hawks moor in Leicester square. I don't eat steak so had chicken. If you don't like steak I wouldn't advise going. Don't sit in the back room as no windows or doors and air con wasn't working so we were asked to be moved. Service very good but my partner stated that Leicester square branch is super is comprison. So if you want to go to hawks moor go to that branch instead."

  • "One of the best steak resturants I've ever eaten in. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and great service. Tad expensive if you're on a budget but the size of the steaks can feed two people."

  • "Exceptionally good steak, great beers. My wife and I are still thinking about it and planning our next visit"

  • "The food at Hawksmoor is consistently good. 2 of us shared different cuts (Porterhouse and. T-Bone) over a business meal with various sides and shared a bottle of red which was a bit expensive (£60) and not necessarily as good as other cheaper options on the menu (the black label Rioja would be my preference). The sides were up to scratch as always and the shared cheese plate after dinner is a big recommendation. Very good. Overall £200 for 2. About right for top(ish) restaurants in London these days. Slightly controversial though. I am still not convinced that Hawksmoor serves the best cuts in London, but probably the best overall steakhouse experience. For now."

  • "Like steak? Steak cooked really well? Delicious steak? Steak that makes you want to banish the memory of anything green? Yes, of course you do. Well, I have good news and bad news. First, the bad. There aren't as many places to get the sort of steak that you appreciate as you'd expect there to be in London. And now, the good news. You've found one of the places that you'll appreciate and want to come back to again. Happened for me, and I'm guessing it may happen to you as well. Oh, and do you happen to like cocktails? Yes, I figured you did. Try a full fat old fashioned and forget your caloric intake for the evening. Your GP may not thank you, but your tastebuds will. More good news ... Bone Marrow. Just do it. You're welcome."

  • "Unfortunately I did not get to go to hawksmoor spitalfields as they called 15mins before our booking to say they have to cancel our bookings due to electricity shortage. Instead we went to the one in Guildhalls - I recommend."

  • "Absolutely amazing, polished experience: helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff; brilliant wine pairing (can't recommend Rosso Braida enough - easily on par with Burgundy village wines while 2 times cheaper!) and steaks so good you don't know if to eat one or marry and take home."

  • "we came for a steak, and a steak we had, pretty big one too. quality of the meat was excellent. melt-in-mouth. sides were also good. service was quick. bill was hefty. all went to plan !"

  • "We've been a number of times and this was equally as good. Not many small cuts from the specials board available when we got there but we still had the fabulous Porterhouse steak. Service was exceptional - very knowledgable."

  • "I could not fault a single thing. My boyfriend and I were given fantastic service by our waiter and the food was divine. Would definitely recommend to anyone and will most certainly be going back very soon."

  • "I've been to the hawksmoor twice now my first visit was amazing, best steak I've ever had. So I was expecting great things for my second visit unfortunately I left rather disappointed. I went for the Sunday roast which was very average. There was no stuffing the Yorkshire was over cooked and the whole meal itself was cold. I wouldn't visit again on a Sunday or recommend the roast. I've raved so much about the hawksmoor it was a bit embarrassing as the other diner didn't rate it at all."
