A word from Hickory's Chester
Hickory’s Smokehouse is Chester’s authentic American BBQ. Here you can enjoy a traditional style of cooking that has its roots in the US, but that we think deserves to be just as popular over here.
Our menu offers two styles of BBQ. The southern-style ‘Smoker’ BBQ uses slow, wood-fired cooking in our specially imported American smoker oven. The northern-style ‘Yankee’ BBQ is cooked over sizzling hot coals. Both styles create unbelievably tender, delicious meat and fish.

  • "Really good meal pre-theatre in the park, tasty food & the waiting staff were extremely efficient and friendly"

  • "Lovely food just the person looking after us was abit rude...more into my boyfriend!"

  • "Table wasn't ready so we were sent to the bar to wait - first impressions count - the bartender was sullen, no manners at all, no smile. Service started well, menu explained, first course arrived quickly. Our server then moved to another station - the service went downhill rapidly. We were without drinks for easily 40 minutes and after eating our main course the plates sat in front of us for over half an hour before being cleared away. We came away thinking we'd ordered the wrong things - brisket - very small portion, pulled pork - very small portion however the XXXL burger was good. All 3 of us found the fries and slaw tasteless I'm afraid so left them. Middle of the day, lots of empty tables, no exuse for poor service. Great location."

  • "Absolutely delicious real American food great choices and a chance to try things not tried before, eg gumbo, would highly recommend."

  • "I've eaten in many top end restaurants and the food and experience is up there with them. The drinks menus is fantastic and the barmen took time out to recommend drinks. The food was outstanding, make sure you go there hungery and early so you can eat and drink as much as you can. Only gutted I live nowhere near the restaurant, so can't just pop back!"
    dined on 14/07/2014
  • "Service was excellent, friendly and left the right amount of time between courses. The food was great, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. My husband finds cause for complaint everywhere we go but couldn't fault our visit on any level. The presentation was unique using unusual, quirky crockery. This was our first of, hopefully, many visits."

  • "The food at Hickory's is always fantastic and it was no exception this time! I would always recommend booking to eat at Hickory's becaue it is always busy and there could be a long wait if a table isn't reserved. This time service wasn't amazing; the servers wee very friendly but they were very slow to take our order and we were waiting for quite a while. Despite this, it was a lovely lunch and I would definitely recommend this restaurent to anyone who likes their meat dishes!"

  • "Hickory's is in a lovely setting overlooking the River Dee.It has a great atmosphere and good music playing. The staff were so friendly and helpful,on showing us to our table we were given a bag of popcorn and a large bottle of water which was poured for us.The waitress then sat down with us and explained the menu.I had the Chowder to start while my husband had the suicide chicken wings which were both delicious. We then had the platter so we could try a bit of everything from the menu.I have never tasted food like it,it was delicious but way too much for the two of us,we couldn't eat it all to my husbands dismay. The pulled pork and pit beans were a difinite favourite.I would highly recommend this place to anyone and will return very soon."

  • "Drinks were good although tango was mostly Ice:L peach & passion fruit iced tea was lovely!! Ordered burnt ends which were nice but can see the portion has reduced a lot! Then ordered a double cheese burger which was lovely. Also ordered a rump steak for my boyfriend as the meal was for his birthday!! Steak came in two pieces which is okay but expect a good steak for £18.95 and 3 onion rings with a hue chilli in the middle which was not specified on the menu. My boyfriend is allergic to chillies and it was taken away immediately as we told the waitress and offered a new meal. Should say on the menu about the chilli!! Also steak does not come with fries as we thought it would, not great value!!"

  • "Booked a table for 7pm for my husbands birthday, food was outstanding as always service good until around 8.45 when we were asked to move to another table as our table was booked out! Wasnt impressed with this!"

  • "I had been to Hickory's Chester before and had a large group booking. The food and service was brilliant. I booked a table for 2 for 5:30 on Friday 20th June 2014. The greeting from everyone and the service was brilliant and could not pick a fault with this. The checkback was done, all staff are very happy and encouraging and we were thanked by every member of staff we went by when leaving. However the food took around 5 minutes to come out to us which raised questions as to if it had been cooked properly. My partner had the chicken skewers which was quite small considering the price and had some of my ribs also, which we both agreed were very gritty and hard to get any meat off. Everything else was positive but we were very let down."

  • "Hickories always does great food - and usually great service. Our initial waiter was a bit forgetful, rose wine was warm! I have been many times and this has been the only occaison where the service was lacking."
    dined on 18/06/2014
  • "The food here is great! When you arrive you're given a bag of salted popcorn on the table, fresh and warm, and a bottle of tap water (perfect for us as we don't drink). The menu has a lot of choice and if you like meat you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended!"

  • "Lovely sunny evening, nice atmosphere and touches with the popcorn bag and water. Lovely food and drinks especially the alcoholic milkshakes."

  • "We ate here on a Tuesday evening. We had prebooked a table but had trouble finding the restaurant ( the sat nav could not find it). We were late arriving but this was not a problem. Our 2 year old loved his meal and his 2 balloons. We had taken his pushchair as had to walk from where we had parked but there was not really room for it by the table so would recommend not taking one inside. The food was excellent would definitely recommend the waffles for dessert. If you want a family friendly restaurant then would recommend . It was busy even though only Tuesday evening so there was a good atmosphere. The bags of popcorn were a nice touch. We will visit again if back in Chester."

  • "Food arrived very quickly which suggested it hadnt been freshly prepared. The food was good although the Brisket was a very small portion and the chips werent that hot. "

  • "We had starters mains and desserts. And all three were good size portions and good value for money. Have been to hickory's many times but never eaten as never been able to get a table. But this time I booked well in advance, and it was well worth it. Will definitely book again ."

  • "My partner, son and myself went for lunch on a Sunday, we had to book 2 weeks in advance but it was worth the wait. We had the starter platter, cost £30 but it was enormous, we couldn't eat it all, no problem, they packed it up and we took it home. Main courses were great, very tasty, I had the dry rub ribs, again too much for me I took half home. In fact after the large starter none of us finished our main meals. I'd recommend just having the main, no starter unless you have a big appetite. The dessert menu looked good but we just couldn't manage one. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the decor is fab but the best thing is the location, on the banks of the River Dee, especially if you sit outside "

  • "Lovely staff & amazing food. Came here for lunch with friends for my 35th, we left very very full and happy. Bonus points for the Tennessee Bourbon Glaze on the wings and for the Texas Brisket which is a triumph!"

  • "Went for an evening meal with friends , from arriving there we were welcomed with a friendly smile. Even just sitting at the bar we were entertained by the bar staff who were excellent. Cocktails are amazing . Waiting on staff are very attentive asking for any drinks and topping up everyone's water, I was stuck between to main courses and she was quick to advise . We had an excellent night , looking forward to going again . That was the only thing that wasn't as good I did have to book three months in advance as they are so busy!! But that was worth it xx"

  • "Great food good value considering we could only get a booking for 10pm and it was very quiet service could have been better as one of 3 tables left at half 11 we had to look for someone to get the bill from. That being said good came surprisingly quick and as amazing! "
    dined on 25/05/2014
  • "Steak was unbelievably delicious!!!!! We will be coming back again"
    dined on 24/05/2014
  • "Was a bit worried as our table was booked got 9:45pm... was the only availability with it being so popular. When we got there we were shown to bar and wasn't left waiting long, infact I think we were seated for 9:45pm.. starter was amazing, main was fantastic.. no room for pudding, which was a shame as I was looking forward to the coffee cheesecake... would def recommend this restaurant and we will def be goin back again soon. "

  • "Overrated. It is common to head how nice Hickory's is, but it just isn't. The idea is brilliant and the location, actual restaurant and the service is excellent. However, the menu is lacking, there aren't many choices in regards to BBQ based foods, unless you want ribs, ribs, or ribs. The food quality is surprisingly low too. The BBQ Pulled Pork leaves a lot to be desired, and resembles an almost tasteless mush. In my opinion pulled pork should be crispy on the edges and full of spice and flavour. Although the 'skin left on chips' are rather divine, it has to be said. Overall, an American type of nandos. But it shouldn't be. Put the prices up a bit and improve the food, please."
    dined on 22/05/2014
  • "Upon arrival we was taken straight to our table, the waitress popped back with some salted popcorn and water. We ordered Banana milkshake with alcohol The milkshake was that good we had to order another but stopped at 2 as at £6.50 each is a little expensive but was worth another You can opt for a non-alcoholic one costing just £3.50 We had a starter of Burnt Ends husband enjoyed them but to eat fatty meat was not my kind of starter I ordered the chicken skewers and my husband had the steak with a dry Cajun spices. The skewers were lovely would have liked peppers rather than just onion & courgette which are a bit bland My husband could not fault the steak there was not much fat on it either which is always a plus point with my husband"

  • "Have eaten here before and it was as good as ever excellent food in an excellent location one of the reasons we keep coming back to Chester! I had the beef brisket and my wife had the sizzling fajitas we had requested a booth previously and was very pleased when we were shown to our seats. Toasting marshmallows are also a great touch we will be back again definitely. Than kyou !"
