In a good way - the way in to the restaurant is like a railway corridor from the olden days and then when sat down it is like you are in a train that is moving through the jungle :) the food was ok... roast pork yummy, duck delightful, venison pie very nice, but venison with cold kale not so great. Area at back is a bar which was very loud as the evening wore on... perhaps I am just getting too old for this malarky!

Wanted to go ever since a sparkling review in the Times. Chose the three course table d'hote, as it included the things we were ordering anyway. The food wasn't bad at all, but £9 for a glass of house white is plain robbery. Great to find properly sourced food, as a countryman I approve, but it doesn't matter where it is from if not also wonderfully cooked. Bakewell Pudding was dry - not like the real thing at all (I have eaten it in Bakewell, believe me). In its defence, we were late sitting down to lunch, having warned them in advance about train delays. They were most accommodating, but why is there muzak in this food centred estabishment? I'm sorry to be like this, but, although I admire your concept, a few socks need pulling up.

Excellent staff don't make up for rather average, expensive food. The wine list has very little under £30 a bottle so inflates even the simplest meal. A low point was the pork rib which tasted only of sugar, presumably from the glaze or marinade. Side orders at the best part of £5 each can add up alarmingly.

Food was good but the service was very poor. Whilst the staff were friendly it took an hour for our starter to arrive, considering it was a dozen fresh oysters that's pretty unreasonable. Mains were again slow.

Hix had been recommended to me so I was looking forward to my visit. However, the menu is very limited and unless you are all committed red meat lovers or want fish there is little else on offer. As a group of four diners with varying tastes we were struggling to find main courses that we wanted. Diners should definitely check the menu before going to make sure there is something on there you will want to order. Wines were reasonably priced though and our vegetarian diner seemed content. Service not great - slow and they got all of our starters wrong causing even more delay as they had to redo them all.

Our business group had an enjoyable evening at Hix O&C Farringdon. The definite highlight for the whole table were the steaks, particularly the fillet steaks (£36 400g). For at least two of us, these were the best steaks we had had in the UK; I am still thinking about it. Service was friendly and helpful. On the whole, very good menu selection, great steaks and you can have a wonderful meal, but it is not cheap.

We thought the set menu provided good value, although the choice was necessarily limited. Our smoked salmon was a very light cure and lacked taste. The hake was excellent and very well cooked. Desserts were also very good. Our opening nibbles arrived after our starter but because if this they weren't in the bill. The service was charming and helpful. Great Gavi di Gavi wine as well.

We went on a Saturday night which maybe isn't the best night for this part of town, but I wasn't expecting it to be so quiet. The restaurant was not even quarter full and it had the air of a place which was past its best. The waitress was nice but she wasn't overly enthusiastic either and seemed a bit bored. Food was OK but nothing really special. Overall, it was OK but you are paying a lot of money for just OK. I wished I'd gone elsewhere to be honest.

If you have a thing for oysters, or incredible steak or meat then this is the place for you. A subtle, quirky and unobtrusive decor, with friendly and informed table service, combined to create an excellent evening. The quality and attention to detail is particularly good, but you definitely pay for it. Wine list was top-class, but again, not cheap. Would be a great place for business deals, or a special date night - but not if you're watching your budget.

We went with family for an early Tuesday evening dinner. The Service was very good. Everyone is very knowlegdable of the menu and are very helpful. Also made the birthday boy very special! The menu starters are solid and a nice selection of 3 types of oysters. Followed-up by big cuts of excellent meat, and backed up by some very good fish dishes. Desserts are a little disappionting after such fine fare, but to be honest everyone was very full from the meat-feast so it didn't rock any boat! If you like oysters and chops of meat....book now!

We have dined at Hix &Chophouse on a fairly regular basis since it opened. We find it consistently excellent! Sunday lunch is a great favourite of ours.- live jazz, "proper food". Staff are always helpful and friendly, attentive but not intrusive. Great atmosphere with the live music and the doors opened ( weather permitting). We have also really enjoyed meals sitting at the bar as "walk ins" when tables unavailable. I can honestly say that I have never been disappointed. The food is very very good,

My friend Anna and I went for dinner at Hix on Friday after work. I'd read that the hangar steak was delicious and tender so I'd decided I was having that before we arrived! I was shocked to see that the fillet was £34 and that is without sides (small portion of chips: £4.50). The bearnaise was delicious, the bone marrow that accompanied the steak was the worst part for me, I don't understand the appeal of it. I had smoked salmon to start which was gone in seconds & nothing to write home about and at £14.50 I felt disappointed. Anna had sand eels which were like fat whitebait and there seemed to be loads of them where my starter was tiny. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Not worth the money or perhaps I don't get paid enough!

I like the Hix Oyster and Chophouse, I like taking friends and watching their eyes light up as the cuts board is presented. I love their shock at the pork crackling snacks crunching in their mouths. Be prepared to spend money here, the fear of the unknown on the menu will have you splitting dishes with friends so as not to be guilty of missing out. Friendly, responsive staff who want to talk to you about the food and drink they peddle are the cherry on top.

Had an amazing meal at Hix. Me and my girlfriend both had the hanger steak which was cooked to perfection. The sides of mashed potatoes and carrots we ordered were creamy and buttery respectively. We paired our main with a carafe of the wonderful Malbec which was delicious. Desserts consisted of the gooseberry pie and the Eton mess. The pie was accompanied with vanilla custard which contrasted well with the tartness of the gooseberries. The Eton mess was a let down for us. Although tasty, it was a very restrained portion. The dish was little more than a couple of mouthfuls, however, it was tasty though. We went for a late lunch and the restaurant was full of business people on the lunch. The decor is not to my taste. Very bland and dull.

I dined at Hix Chop House for my husband's birthday and we couldn't have enjoyed our meal more, my husband ate oysters which he mentioned were up there with the best he'd come across, while I opted for their smoked salmon, which was again amazing (according to the staff they smoke it on the roof of Selfridges and it's Mr Hix's own recipe. Nice! Our maincourses were the star of the show though, I opted for their grilled plaice which was light and summery and just what I was feeling like! While my man being the carnivore that he is, went for the rib steak, which he said again was up there with the best and most succulent piece of meat he'd come across. Service was attentive yet not too intrusive and the staff were very knowledgable. Go there!

We went to Hix for a celebration and had a great experience in the small informal dining room. The attentive, friendly, but not intrusive, service was pitched just right. The food and wine choice was wide but not overwhelming and the 'nibbles' choice was great (the pork scratching and rhubarb compote is a must). Best oysters we've ever had and particularly good with the Hix ale. A nice touch was being shown & talked through at the table the cuts of meat available that delivered all that was promised..The nibbles were plenty for us not to want a starter but had pud -the chocolate mousse was devine. It wasn't cheap (over £80 each inc. wine and a couple of drinks) but we felt we had very good value for money and will certainly be going back.

Although not thrilled with the location we had high hopes of an enjoyable, good quality dinner at HIX. One of three meals was good but the others were appalling. For a restaurant that specialises in fish to send out uncleaned crayfish is one thing. But to say that crayfish with FULL digestive tracts are suitable to eat (each one on the plate was filthy) and expect the customer to remove it with their knife and fork was not good. this was sent back and the RETURNED as it was apparently acceptable... I am not convinced 'chef' or whoever was asked knew what they were talking about!! It put us all off our meals and had to be sent back again and swapped to a chewy lobster dish. was not well after this meal. Tarnishing the Mark HIX name.
