A word from Hixter
Hot on the heels of the success of Tramshed in London's Shoreditch, Hixter is our second chicken and steak restaurant. Hixter embraces a casual approach to dining where starters such as the giant Yorkshire pudding and whipped chicken livers, and dishes like the whole roast Indian Rock Chicken and steaks served in 250g and 500g weights, are ideal for sharing. The focus is on seasonality and sourcing great British produce, and at Hixter the menu nods a little towards the indulgent, offering dishes such as the surf and turf with a garlic butter roast lobster.
Hixter is located in the Old East India Warehouse company in Devonshire Square, a handsome room in which is further complimented by the specially commissioned artworks from leading British artists that hang throughout the space. There is also a private dining room that sits up to 22 guests.
Mark's Bar, a second outpost of Mark Hix's award-winning soho cocktail bar is located in the basement.

Diner Reviews
  • "This is a great place for a carnivore. Love the crispy chicken, and the whipped livers with yorkshire pud are a must. Good steaks, but the roast chicken is the star for me."

  • "Beautiful quality meat, well cooked to my liking. My friend had the chicken curry (the last chicken dish she had left to try!) and said it was very good."

  • "My husband and I go back to Hixter again and again. The roast chicken with stuffing and chips for 25 GBP is great tasting and great value. It can feed three people easy. The staff are lovely as well and as a gluten free diner, I can always east safe and well at Hixter."

  • "I've been a couple of times now for bsuinesses lunches, and the food and service have been great on each oaccassion. We ate outside this time which was lovely, I'll definately be back..."

  • "Quite extraordinary service ....being told about a "food journey " what a nonsense"

  • "Hixters was booked for a client lunch and I'd requested (online) a good spot. It was a great touch to be called the day before to offer seating options. Name used on arrival (which was noticed). The food was great; if anything, the service was a little swift (but I guess this is the city, and you don't see slower too often!). We had to hold onto our plates at one point :)"
    dined on 29/07/2014
  • "Good service creative and tasty food will go back and recc to others. I especially like the BLC sounds strange but tastes great"

  • "Ice cold Czech beer, sensational oysters, superb steak, stunning chicken, wonderful Napa Valley red in a great outdoor table underneath a canopy topped off with great service. London doesn't get any better. It's so great that I've been 3 times in 2 weeks and will go again tomorrow with 3 other Australians!!!!!"

  • "Went to Hixter for a family celebration meal - had a fantastic evening. The food and drinks were incredible, and the service was second to none. Will definitely be going back in the future!"

  • "After booking a fun business lunch via OpenTable in the morning, my clients & I rocked up at lunch to find Hix had overbooked & there was no table available. However, they couldn't have been more accommodating, opening up the downstairs bar area, & creating a suitable dining table for 4, firstly by covering the billiards table, but then, more sensibly, by pushing a few bar tables together. At first slightly concerned about the lack of atmosphere, being the only 4 down there, concerns promptly disappeared with the amazing service. They couldn't have done more, & I'd like to personally thank the manager & his team for his efforts, which turned a potentially embarrassing situation, into a fun & memorable experience."

  • "Imagined it would be well cooked and tasty but i was wrong.. Nice location, ambiance and all but the food isn't simply for me"
    dined on 26/06/2014
  • "I had a business lunch at Hixter Liverpool Street - was very nice to sit outside in the square and the service was good - the food was good but tasted a bit fatty - not sure I would go back, I think there are better places in that area."
    dined on 18/06/2014
  • "When we arrived at Marks Bar it was completely empty! I think this was due to the warm evening which led everyone outside. However we received a warm welcome and the cocktails that were created for us were amazing. Again the restaurant was very quiet for a Friday evening. Starter of yorkshire pud and whipped chicken livers sublime. Roasted whole chicken carved at the table with frites and salad perfect for three of us to share. Then we popped outside for another delicious cocktail! Pricey but fab location good service and lovely food. We will definitely return."

  • "Great food and knowledgeable staff to pair wine, would highly recommened the chicken to share, beautiful"

  • "We dined outside at Devonshire Square and the food was outstanding as was the outside dining experience. We preferred it even over Tramshed and the noisy atmosphere."
    dined on 06/06/2014
  • "Chicken or steak - Great value chicken, not sure about the steak. Good for a quick meal for 2 and it deserves to be busier. Not upmarket enough for a city business dinner but certainly a place to go with friends"
    dined on 05/06/2014
  • "Good quality steak and nice Portuguese red wine. Chips below par, though."
    dined on 30/05/2014
  • "Wow, the BLC (beef, lobster, chicken) sandwich sounds like complete overkill, but it's not. A decent-sized sandwich with several slices of each meat plus 2 lobster claws. It was decadent, but not too heavy. Atmosphere is buzzy (although slightly too noisy) and service is warm and friendly. "
    dined on 29/05/2014
  • "First visit to Hixter was for a business lunch and this would be the crowd that it's aiming for base don the venue (Devonshire Square) and the menus - based primarily on Chicken and Steak. The food was well prepared and the steaks were excellent. Service was friendly, and attentive. Definitely recommended for business entertaining and we shall return."
    dined on 29/05/2014
  • "Warm welcome, great corner table(as requested),super service, professional and relaxed. Chateau Steak Salad excellent, steak perfectly cooked,as were the heavenly frites, both full of flavour. We enjoyed a glass of English Sparkling White and the complimentary CocknBull Croquettes to start, then Cote du Ventoux , all delicious. We were celebrating my husband"s 89th,the complimentary truffles served on the decorated 89th Birthday plate were a perfect finale to this remarkable intro to Hixter. Hixter- a unique, memorable dining experience."
    dined on 28/05/2014
  • "We went here for a birthday lunch, partly because we though it looked a nicer restaurant than our original choice of Hix's Tramshed. We had an excellent lunch - the food was delicious (including a sirloin steak that rivalled Hawksmoor on taste and price, and a massive Eton Mess) and the service spot on. It is clearly popular with the banking lot for business lunches due to its location, which could have spoiled the atmosphere but the acoustics are good and it felt merely pleasantly busy. I can't judge what Hixter would be like in the evening but I'd be happy to return to find out."
    dined on 23/05/2014
  • "I've been to the sister Tramshed. Food range is still great and mouth is still watering thinking about it. Went fir a business lunch and was quiet initially. Picked up around 1.30pm. Def go back. "
    dined on 21/05/2014
  • "If you love meat, superbly prepared and supplied in large quantities, this is one for you. The staff are impeccable - polite, friendly, super helpful. Even supplying a full tray of various slabs of fresh meat to explain the various cuts before you make your choice. The wine list is also excellent and the waiters knowledgeable to discuss the merits of each one to go with your eating choice. My only niggle would be that it lacked the atmosphere or theatre of some of Hix's other restaurants. Being in the city it feels a little like an after work hang out rather than a destination eatery. On a Friday it was buzzy and full, but I would be interested to see how it fairs on a weekend evening."

  • "Great food, great service which is exactly what the Square mile needed. Great starters or sharing plates followed by beautifully cooked main courses. Staff are knowledgeable about the food and wine and give great advice on matching and there own favorites! "

  • "I've lived in London for 10 years, I've eaten at pretty much every steak restaurant you could name - Hawksmoor, Gaucho, Goodmans, MASH, Constancia and many more besides - the standard of steak in London is rightfully great and I'm really pleased about this! But the porterhouse I shared at Hixster was the best steak I've eaten in London & my dining companion agreed. It was one of the best meals I've eaten this year and a hearty congrats to all involved. I've always admired Mark Hix and he's truly nailed this unfussy, uncomplicated restaurant. Utterly fantastic. We ate starters, shared a porterhouse sides and fries, had a bottle of wine and two cocktails, and desert and the bill was about £215 - not cheap, but absolutely fantastic. "

  • "A menu that lacked originality and was executed poorly compared to similar restaurants. Service was inattentive to the extreme. Having to ask for menus, drinks 3x and bill / card machine - just not good enough. The staff were pleasant when you saw them. A defo miss for me - won't be returning. "

  • "Had lunch at Hixster on a Tuesday. The restaurant was busy but not packed. Had a nice feel about it and good ambience. The food was very good. The wine selection was also good, but was not cheap ! All in all we had a good lunch with good service. I will certainly return to Hixster, but I won't rush back. There are plenty of places in the City that are similar and equally as good."

  • "I went there with my husband for our Friday steak night. The service was good, and the food was great! (Their chips were just amazingly good!!) We ordered rib and sirloin steak each and they were both amazing. The location is good too, it is not too far from the liverpool street station, the bar downstairs has got a trendy atmosphere so we enjoyed our pre-dinner drinks there. We didn't order but the Chicken option from the other choice of the menu looked amazing too. "

  • "Had a lovely steak at Hixter recently. Cant fault the food or the service :)"
    dined on 01/05/2014
  • "I came for dinner with a friend and was my first Mark Hix restaurant visit. The salmon was good but it didn't really excite me. The flavour of the sirloin steak was fantastic and it was very apparent, in both that and the chicken escalope dish we had, that the meat quality was superb. Due to the tube strikes the restaurant was very quiet; such a shame as I can imagine it being a great atmosphere when it's busy. The service was perfectly pleasant and everything was timely. However, I had felt afterwards that there was something missing, and it may have just been the atmosphere, but I did feel it was a tad pricey for what the food was. I was hoping the chips would be a more thicker cut, perhaps I was wrong to assume. All in all lovely evening"

  • "Dined at this restaurant for the first time with two friends. Great location and the restaurant was not busy. Loved the menu and the sirloin steak was very tasty! As we just had some snacks and a main course, I woud definitely go back to try out the rest of the menu. "

  • "would definitely go again.. I still struggle with the feet being kept on the chickens which I know is the chains signature.. so the waitress kindly took them away for me ;-) "

  • "slightly on the expensive side, particularly when their steak prices are comparible with Gaucho and Hawksmoor. still, good quality. "

  • "Very pleasant lunch with 8 of us for beers and burgers.Delicious meaty , juicy burgers with a lovely orange yolky egg, lovely chips and onion rings.Must have the yorkshire pudding and pate to start(to share), amazing! Service outside was a touch slow , a few times we had to actively seek staff to order more drinks but on the whole very good and definitely be going back.I am sure the service outside will improve as weather warms up!"
