A word from Hixter City
Hot on the heels of the success of Tramshed in London's Shoreditch, Hixter City is our second chicken and steak restaurant. Hixter City embraces a casual approach to dining where starters such as the giant Yorkshire pudding and whipped chicken livers, and dishes like the whole roast Indian Rock Chicken and steaks served in 250g and 500g weights, are ideal for sharing. The focus is on seasonality and sourcing great British produce, and at Hixter City the menu nods a little towards the indulgent, offering dishes such as the surf and turf with a garlic butter roast lobster.
Hixter City is located in the Old East India Warehouse company in Devonshire Square, a handsome room in which is further complimented by the specially commissioned artworks from leading British artists that hang throughout the space. There is also a private dining room that sits up to 22 guests.
Mark's Bar, a second outpost of Mark Hix's award-winning soho cocktail bar is located in the basement.

I love Hix chophouse and oyster bars they are one of my favourite places to eat. So I am confused as to why he has ventured into competitor to Hawksmoor and Gaucho grills, as they do it better. The menu is extremely short no Classic Hix items. The venue is great but they could make the covered outdoor space much nicer.

Fantastic food in a very central location: we had the chicken which was tender and succulent but the steak cuts looked evenly tasty.

I couldn't make out the true character of this restaurant or why I feel vaguely disappointed. The food was excellent and service was prompt. The man on the door was chummy in a strange over familiar way, greeting me as ' my love'. I didn't like that and I told him and he was 'jolly' in his acceptance of my view but didn't engage with me after that. The new lady on ' try out day' was excellent. It became very busy and I thought the staff dealt well with the lunch time rush but many were rather distant in their attitude even though efficient. I wish I could have come away feeling really upbeat about the restaurant - but I didn't. I rather doubt I will eat there again despite good food.

It was my second visit to Hixter and I was again blown away by the quality. Delicious shellfish soup followed by Chateaubriand cooked to perfection. Service was friendly and efficient. The depth of flavour in all dishes was wonderful and even the truffles for desert were awesome. The wine list has obviously been carefully chosen and changes regularly. On both visits my mid priced selections were incredible value.

A simple menu that was well executed - and the food was served hot!. The only slight negative on the food was that it seemed to me the only real difference between the 250g and 500g steak was the thickness of the cut, so if you like your steak medium rare the smaller steak is probably not the one to go for because it is a little too thin.

This was my second visit to Hixter as I enjoyed it so much the first time! All good - from the amazing cocktails in the outside bar, then moving inside to the cosy feel good restaurant. Great service our waiter took time to bring us wines to try before ordering and also advised us on how much food to order - so no 'over-ordering' - a mix of Hix Snax were gobbled up followed by amazing burgers and their signature Indian rock chicken - delicious. We had a to die for dessert perfect for sharing - salted caramel fondue with doughnuts and marshmallows as light as clouds. A wonderful experience and so close to Liverpool St - we will definitely return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Nice variety of food and range of prices at this new place in Devonshire Square, a couple of minute's walk from Liverpool Street station. I had Aubergine salad starter with crisp bread while one of my colleagues had a twist on a classic prawn cocktail, then I had chicken piri piri for main course with some nice buttered vegetables and chips while the others had monkfish and another cut of chicken, which were moist and well cooked. All in all a decent meal with varied choice at reasonable prices. Alcohol-free cocktails good. Was fairly quiet at lunchtime on the Tuesday following bank holiday so not too noisy. Not sure how it is normally...

Hixters was booked for a client lunch and I'd requested (online) a good spot. It was a great touch to be called the day before to offer seating options. Name used on arrival (which was noticed). The food was great; if anything, the service was a little swift (but I guess this is the city, and you don't see slower too often!). We had to hold onto our plates at one point :)

After booking a fun business lunch via OpenTable in the morning, my clients & I rocked up at lunch to find Hix had overbooked & there was no table available. However, they couldn't have been more accommodating, opening up the downstairs bar area, & creating a suitable dining table for 4, firstly by covering the billiards table, but then, more sensibly, by pushing a few bar tables together. At first slightly concerned about the lack of atmosphere, being the only 4 down there, concerns promptly disappeared with the amazing service. They couldn't have done more, & I'd like to personally thank the manager & his team for his efforts, which turned a potentially embarrassing situation, into a fun & memorable experience.

Visited Hixter for some mid-week indulgence. Its a great setting, tucked around the back of Bishopsgate - and you can eat outside in the little courtyard square too. Inside, there's exposed brick-work, a view into the kitchen and some great art from the Brit-pack (aka Hix's mates). We went for some craft beers and the great value whole chicken on a spit with chips - which is superb. It is quite a big venue, and therefore a little quiet in the week - but once the summer is fully over, I think the people milling around outside will be in eating the chicken - which will sort the ambience nicely

When we arrived at Marks Bar it was completely empty! I think this was due to the warm evening which led everyone outside. However we received a warm welcome and the cocktails that were created for us were amazing. Again the restaurant was very quiet for a Friday evening. Starter of yorkshire pud and whipped chicken livers sublime. Roasted whole chicken carved at the table with frites and salad perfect for three of us to share. Then we popped outside for another delicious cocktail! Pricey but fab location good service and lovely food. We will definitely return.

Wow, the BLC (beef, lobster, chicken) sandwich sounds like complete overkill, but it's not. A decent-sized sandwich with several slices of each meat plus 2 lobster claws. It was decadent, but not too heavy. Atmosphere is buzzy (although slightly too noisy) and service is warm and friendly.

We went here for a birthday lunch, partly because we though it looked a nicer restaurant than our original choice of Hix's Tramshed. We had an excellent lunch - the food was delicious (including a sirloin steak that rivalled Hawksmoor on taste and price, and a massive Eton Mess) and the service spot on. It is clearly popular with the banking lot for business lunches due to its location, which could have spoiled the atmosphere but the acoustics are good and it felt merely pleasantly busy. I can't judge what Hixter would be like in the evening but I'd be happy to return to find out.

If you love meat, superbly prepared and supplied in large quantities, this is one for you. The staff are impeccable - polite, friendly, super helpful. Even supplying a full tray of various slabs of fresh meat to explain the various cuts before you make your choice. The wine list is also excellent and the waiters knowledgeable to discuss the merits of each one to go with your eating choice. My only niggle would be that it lacked the atmosphere or theatre of some of Hix's other restaurants. Being in the city it feels a little like an after work hang out rather than a destination eatery. On a Friday it was buzzy and full, but I would be interested to see how it fairs on a weekend evening.
