A word from Il Baretto Wine Bar and Restaurant
Il Baretto Wine Bar and Restaurant in London's very happening Marylebone Village is another winner from the stable of restaurateur Arjun Waney, who brought you the stellar Roka, Zuma and La Petite Maison.
If you're looking for a super Italian cuisine and would like to avoid both chain restaurants and designer price tags, Il Baretto in Blandford Street is an excellent choice.
Located between Marylebone High Street and Baker Street, Il Baretto has a smart wine bar located on the ground floor and a cavernous basement dining room that is a stylish restaurant for group parties and celebrations.
Popular with a local crowd, as well as with tourists and shoppers from Bond Street, this restaurant serves up authentic Italian recipes and we love the spaghetti con astice with lobster, sweet chilli and garlic sauce, and the risotto ai carciofi, a creamy artichoke risotto. Pizzas and dishes from the robata grill are winners too.

Had the lobster linguine and Seabass carpaccio- excellent! Would go back again. Excellent selection of wines. Had the tiramisu- very creamy but hardly any sponge. Little disappointing for £16. However, my other friends still enjoyed it. Overall great food and worth trying.

I lived in Italy for three years, and I can honestly say my meal at Il Baretto transported me back there. Everything was absolutely fabulous. We started with beef carpaccio - a favorite dish of mine. It was perfection. Next: mushroom risotto. Heavenly. My main course was the branzino (grilled sea bream). I sprinkled a little olive oil on it and it was delicious. My friend had the lamb. I usually don't like lamb but I tasted his and it was so, so good! Il Baretto was worth every penny. It was the perfect way to spend our last night in London.

I have eaten here before, but this time was not half as good. The beef carpaccio and sea bass carpaccio were not seasoned properly, neither was the truffle maccheroni. Everything was slightly disappointing for the price of £90 per head - I would expect better quality of food at that price. I am not sure if I will go back.

The food is outstanding -- fresh, tasty, appealingly presented. Their pizzas are excellent, and if that's not your taste for a meal, order one for the table as an appetizer. The tiramisu was outstanding, a sweet, ample but not too cake-y dream. One downside: took wa-a-a-y too long to get and settle our bill.

This is our 2nd visit here . Neither time have we been disappointed. The food was excellent as was the service , despite it being very busy, even on a Wed evening. I had the saffron risotto and my wife had the steak tartare and both were superb. We had the aubergine and mozzarella appetizer which was equally as good. Our food was brought at the proper pace and there was always someone nearby to attend to our needs. I would definitely recommend a reservation, no matter which night of the week you go. The 1st time we did not but luckily got to sit at the bar. The fact that this establishment is down a side street about a half mile from a tube station and still this busy is a glowing testament to its quality.

We arrived on time and promptly seated, however, that's where the fun stopped. Took what felt like a while for anyone to come over and take a drinks order, but that's was still quicker than what it took for the food to arrive. After inquiring about the wait, the waiter did inform us that it does take time to cook the food and so we shouldn't worry. !0 minutes later the food arrived. Warm and crusted pasta. Clearly it had been sitting out whilst they cooked the second main dish. No one came to check back on us until it was ready for the bill then the service sped up. It was a busy night for the restaurant but that should be no excuse to neglect the small parties of two/three.

food okay but VERY expensive for what it is. And i'm afraid the service is really not good - lots of people standing around not doing very much but its almost impossible to catch anyones eye to ask for things like bread, salt & pepper, salad dressing etc. Also having televisions showing sport in the upstairs restaurant is a bit off putting when you are paying £60 pp for lunch - makes it feel like a sports bar rather than a classy restaurant.

On a really sunny day they stuck us in the basement with no option of a lighter or sunnier table. Really lovely food with a good choice of food but really awful service. We got there at 1pm for an important business lunch and our order for food was not taken until 2.10pm. I had to catch someone's attention just to order wine or water. Really not good enough. If they could sort out the service this restaurant could be a real gem. I wouldn't recommend it or go back I'm afraid, which is a great shame.

Have been before and thought the service was a bit of a let down but went again last night for a business meal and I couldn't fault it. Starters: fried courgette and calamari were delicious, mains: steak with red win jus, spinach and black truffles and my grilled seabass were both fabulous and perfectly cooked, cheese board was really good too, the blue cheese and honey was amazing!

The food was good, if a tad on the pricey side, but the evening was spoilt as due to a relatively low ceiling, when the restaurant is busy, my companion and I could hardly hear each other and had to raise our voices to talk to each other, which significantly marred the experience. We won't be rushing back.

Love the food Diavola pizza is yum. We sat at the bar first as we arrived early.only after 10 minutes did we get given a menu after requesting it and then 7-8 mins before someone took our order. Drinks were quick to arrive once ordered. We got taken down to table and were told we had 2 minutes to order as the kitchen was closing. If we had been seated on time this wouldnt have happened. Order was taken and wine list requested. i ordered a bottle of white, and 5 minutes later was told it was out of stock. Ordered another bottle and the same thing happened. Frustrating. We were then rushed through the meal - before we had finished our starters the mains were brought. seemed the staff wanted to get us out of there asap.

I love this restaurant. It has Italian food of outstanding quality, with a menu that mixes both the classic dishes as well some more unusual italian receipes. I have been there quite a few times. Service is great, place is always full of people, creating a great ambience. Very professional staff. I don't mind paying the steep prices for dishes of this quality, but I wish the portion sizes were slightly more generous. There are cheap options on the menu (like the simple pasta dishes or pizza) but for the meats, fish etc. expect to pay 25-35 for a main course (or £17 for the burrata starter).

Quite disappointing as I've been walking past this for a while and finally found time to take some friends: The red wine was opened away from the table. £35 for a Veal Milanese was about £10 too much for the quality, though my friends said the steak was good. The fries were very clearly oven chips. Ambience was fine but we should probably have sat downstairs for a meal. The upstairs is much more of a bar with the music and football screens.

We had eyed off this restaurant a while ago and decided to go for dinner on a Thursday night. The food was outstanding - really good quality, tasty and beautifully presented Italian food. We were however disappointed with the service - we were still finishing our shared starters when the mains came out and then it took ages to pay once we had received the final the bill.

This restaurant is a great find. A little off of Marylebone High Street it's refreshingly different from the chains that are now popping up everywhere there. The staff are attentive, the menu is great, and the food is good. It's like eating out in Ravenna. I went there on a warm summer's evening and if I'm honest found that the descent to the dark basement wasn't great. I think I'll like it better in the winter when it'll feel more romantic.

For starters we both had an enormous tomato and mozzarella salad … The best mozzarella di bufula I have had in a very long time. Delicious with a dribble of basil oil poured over. Then I had a really well cooked sea bream with tomato, olive and caper 'salsa' and good samphire (not salty). My friend 'oohed and ahed' over a homemade pasta dish with pancetta and asparagus. Finished with really good cappuccinos. Been wanting to come for ages and already want to go again.

We (two of us) got a table to dine upstairs (street level). its quite noisy and also they have some tables sitting in the narrow alley way (which is where they put us). We asked them to move us from there since we we had decided to leave after a glass of wine if they were unable to do so. They managed to move us to a table right behind the receptionist and it is not that nice and cosy. I believe the tables downstairs are better.

Having been a regular here for many years I now feel its dinning out on its past reputation which to be fair was excellent. The Restaurant has expanded by taking over the premises next door and the noise level has increased along with the extra capacity. Service is brisk and often missed the mark in both quality and value for money - in particular the Tempura Prawns were no more than prawns deep fried in batter of similar quality to your local Chinese take away but without the sweet n sour sauce If you want a nightclub feel without the dance floor then this is the place for you , but be prepared to pay at least £50-£60 per person
