A word from Il Baretto Wine Bar and Restaurant
Il Baretto Wine Bar and Restaurant in London's very happening Marylebone Village is another winner from the stable of restaurateur Arjun Waney, who brought you the stellar Roka, Zuma and La Petite Maison.
If you're looking for a super Italian cuisine and would like to avoid both chain restaurants and designer price tags, Il Baretto in Blandford Street is an excellent choice.
Located between Marylebone High Street and Baker Street, Il Baretto has a smart wine bar located on the ground floor and a cavernous basement dining room that is a stylish restaurant for group parties and celebrations.
Popular with a local crowd, as well as with tourists and shoppers from Bond Street, this restaurant serves up authentic Italian recipes and we love the spaghetti con astice with lobster, sweet chilli and garlic sauce, and the risotto ai carciofi, a creamy artichoke risotto. Pizzas and dishes from the robata grill are winners too.

Diner Reviews
  • "Great atmosphere, excellent service and amazing food."
    dined on 22/08/2014
  • "The food was good, if a tad on the pricey side, but the evening was spoilt as due to a relatively low ceiling, when the restaurant is busy, my companion and I could hardly hear each other and had to raise our voices to talk to each other, which significantly marred the experience. We won't be rushing back."

  • "Good food but expensive. Upstairs where we were seated for Sunday dinner felt like a café/bar and too noisy."

  • "Love the food Diavola pizza is yum. We sat at the bar first as we arrived early.only after 10 minutes did we get given a menu after requesting it and then 7-8 mins before someone took our order. Drinks were quick to arrive once ordered. We got taken down to table and were told we had 2 minutes to order as the kitchen was closing. If we had been seated on time this wouldnt have happened. Order was taken and wine list requested. i ordered a bottle of white, and 5 minutes later was told it was out of stock. Ordered another bottle and the same thing happened. Frustrating. We were then rushed through the meal - before we had finished our starters the mains were brought. seemed the staff wanted to get us out of there asap."

  • "I love this restaurant. It has Italian food of outstanding quality, with a menu that mixes both the classic dishes as well some more unusual italian receipes. I have been there quite a few times. Service is great, place is always full of people, creating a great ambience. Very professional staff. I don't mind paying the steep prices for dishes of this quality, but I wish the portion sizes were slightly more generous. There are cheap options on the menu (like the simple pasta dishes or pizza) but for the meats, fish etc. expect to pay 25-35 for a main course (or £17 for the burrata starter)."

  • "Quite disappointing as I've been walking past this for a while and finally found time to take some friends: The red wine was opened away from the table. £35 for a Veal Milanese was about £10 too much for the quality, though my friends said the steak was good. The fries were very clearly oven chips. Ambience was fine but we should probably have sat downstairs for a meal. The upstairs is much more of a bar with the music and football screens."

  • "enjoyable meal as usual. Pizza was great, if a little underdone. Satisfying never the less"

  • "We had eyed off this restaurant a while ago and decided to go for dinner on a Thursday night. The food was outstanding - really good quality, tasty and beautifully presented Italian food. We were however disappointed with the service - we were still finishing our shared starters when the mains came out and then it took ages to pay once we had received the final the bill."

  • "This restaurant is a great find. A little off of Marylebone High Street it's refreshingly different from the chains that are now popping up everywhere there. The staff are attentive, the menu is great, and the food is good. It's like eating out in Ravenna. I went there on a warm summer's evening and if I'm honest found that the descent to the dark basement wasn't great. I think I'll like it better in the winter when it'll feel more romantic."

  • "Good atmosphere, good lobster linginue. Great wine too but a little mickey taking with the 12.5% service charge"
    dined on 20/06/2014
  • "We have been here several times in the past year, and every time have been impressed by the quality of the food. We are particularly fond of the pizzas, all of which have been excellent. The wine list is very impressive, as well."
    dined on 15/06/2014
  • "For starters we both had an enormous tomato and mozzarella salad … The best mozzarella di bufula I have had in a very long time. Delicious with a dribble of basil oil poured over. Then I had a really well cooked sea bream with tomato, olive and caper 'salsa' and good samphire (not salty). My friend 'oohed and ahed' over a homemade pasta dish with pancetta and asparagus. Finished with really good cappuccinos. Been wanting to come for ages and already want to go again."
    dined on 12/06/2014
  • "The food was of good standard but a little on the bland side to my tasting. Good ambiance, unintrusive service and good menu choices."
    dined on 10/06/2014
  • "We (two of us) got a table to dine upstairs (street level). its quite noisy and also they have some tables sitting in the narrow alley way (which is where they put us). We asked them to move us from there since we we had decided to leave after a glass of wine if they were unable to do so. They managed to move us to a table right behind the receptionist and it is not that nice and cosy. I believe the tables downstairs are better. "

  • "This is fast becoming our favourite Italian restaurant in London. The menu is well thought out with excellent familiar traditional pastas, pizzas and main courses. The wine list is full of choices to suit all budgets. Excellent service + delicious food + warm ambience = a winning combination. Well done"
    dined on 25/03/2014
  • "Pasta was perfectly al dente. Food generally was of a high standard. Place is a bit noisy though."
    dined on 24/03/2014
  • "One of my top five favourite Italian restaurants in London."
    dined on 12/03/2014
  • "Nice nice nice.. Pricey and a bit noisy but good ambience, crowed and food. Will be going back"
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "Having been a regular here for many years I now feel its dinning out on its past reputation which to be fair was excellent. The Restaurant has expanded by taking over the premises next door and the noise level has increased along with the extra capacity. Service is brisk and often missed the mark in both quality and value for money - in particular the Tempura Prawns were no more than prawns deep fried in batter of similar quality to your local Chinese take away but without the sweet n sour sauce If you want a nightclub feel without the dance floor then this is the place for you , but be prepared to pay at least £50-£60 per person"
    dined on 18/02/2014
  • "Great food, great service and a lovely environment for a romantic dinner or evening with a group. Not fussy not formal but a real nice classy feel."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "really good food and the service was good as well, however, it was quite loud."
    dined on 12/02/2014
  • "The food overall was good, the staff were pleasant and friendly. My main concern was the arrangement of tables. Much as I like people watching - having the tables so close together felt like I was part of my neighbour's conversation and not as intimately connected to the one on my own."
    dined on 12/02/2014
  • "I had lunch here with business colleagues and it was just what we needed. Fast and unobtrusive service, elegant decor but with comfortable chairs and a good sized table, a lively atmosphere without deafening music and plenty of space between the tables. The food was wonderful - we had the set lunch menu and it was fresh, authentic and delicious. My pizza knocked spots off even the trendiest chain and my colleague's courgette chips were a bit hit with the whole table. I shall definitely come here again and would happily recommend."
    dined on 23/01/2014
  • "I love going to this restaurant - the team here work brilliantly together, the hosts continue to ask how the meal is, the food arrives hot, good portions, and its very tasty. Its got a great bar section when you walk in as the main restaurant is in the basement. The wine is very nicely matched to the food so there is no messing about."
    dined on 16/01/2014
  • "Really nice ambiance and superb food and service. The music is nice and low so that you can really hear your friends and guests. The staff are attentive but not disruptive, friendly but not over the top."
    dined on 02/01/2014
  • "Il Baretto is always great fun with a wonderful atmosphere brilliant staff and delicious food. A real treat every time."
    dined on 14/12/2013
  • "the food was very good, though rather pricey for what feels like a neighbourhood restaurant. the downstairs is the main dining area. we sat in the centre, where every few minutes a wait staff would noisily get cutlery from a drawer. it is tight and people are constantly moving past. the kitchen also spills into the rom with its bustle and bright lights. we spent £300 plus for 4 with 2 bottles of wine and have no regrets. but it is not the kind of ambiance I will be spending that kind of money again."
    dined on 03/12/2013
  • "I'm not great fan of basement. I miss the light too much but, at least, here at it Baretto the food is very good. At truffle season, they set up a table in the middle and the whole restaurant smells divinely. Definitely worth a try , specially if you live or work nearby"
    dined on 08/11/2013
  • "We were really looking forward to the re-opening of Il Baretto following its renovation -- and hoping that whatever was going on resulted in a more streamlined level of service. The good news was that the food is still very good, but the bad news is that the service is still a bit hit and miss. As ever, the restaurant was chaotic and looked in need of more serving staff. Our wine was taken away somewhere to keep chilled, resulting in empty glasses at several times. But at least we all got served at once this time. And it might have been nice to get larger tables -- our party of 4 struggled to find room for sharing platters, plates and glasses on a round table -- maybe that's why they had to take away our wine?"
    dined on 19/10/2013
  • "I took my vegetarian girlfriend here and although the food was good it was let down by the service, for instance when she asked if something about the food could be changed the answer was a very flat and extremely blunt no. The general attitude of the more senior members of staff is clearly and issue and it has been highlighted before, for now at least I would stay clear of this place, it doesn't deserve people's money for the service they are providing."
    dined on 15/07/2013
  • "Very disappointing experience for commemmorative meal for my daughter's graduation. Service was disgraceful with restaurant's primary focus seemingly to enable an additional sitting. Table not available on arrival at restaurant on time. Once served, plates removed when certain party members still eating, wine glasses taken without offering of additional bottle etc. 12.5 % discretionary service charge removed on request but with indifference as to understanding client issue."
    dined on 29/06/2013
  • "I visited this restaurant with for my family to celebrate my birthday. The welcome was very chilly and quite moody, the waiter was arrogant, no smiles or even a greeting. Food was nice, but not worth the price. Overall a disappointing experience and I probably wouldn't go again, despite it being very close."
    dined on 21/06/2013
  • "Fabulous pizzas, freshly made pasta with wonderful sauces... this is a gem of a restaurant, I am so glad we gave it a go."
    dined on 19/06/2013
  • "We had an excellent meal after the theatre. The place has a good vibe and atmosphere, very busy with many patrons. There were 6 if us and all of us enjoyed our meal. The grilled fresh tuna steak and sea bass were outstanding as was the ravioli with Aubergine and cherry tomatoes. We also shared a pizza to start which was thin, fresh and delicious. Excellent bottle of Chianti. Our friends were from Los Angeles which has great Italian and they raved. This is a good choice. Not cheap but food of high standard."
    dined on 14/06/2013
  • "great wine selection and staff know about it and many nice nibbles and the truffle maccaroni!"
    dined on 14/06/2013
  • "Being Italian myself I am always picky about Italian food abroad. Il Baretto however offers a vast selection of typical dishes prepared very well. I have been numerous times and it has never disappointed! The staff is also always very friendly."
    dined on 14/06/2013
  • "Il Baretto Wine Bar & Restaurant - decent quality, Italian staff, overall quite good"
    dined on 14/06/2013
  • "We love Il Baretto! Wonderful food, great atmosphere, the perfect ingredients for a great evening. Every time I take friends there (especially anyone who's lived in Italy) they then start coming back with their friends."
    dined on 07/06/2013
  • "Restaurant has great Italian food from pasta to pizza to fish. The appetizers are great. Perfect for sharing in a gourp. Fun atmosphere but can get very loud at night as the ceiling is low."
    dined on 06/06/2013
  • "Once again we return to Il Baretto, this time for a business lunch, the food was tip top and my business colleagues remarked how much they enjoyed the experience. This restaurant knows how to please, fine Italian food and wine coupled with attentive service. Will have no hesitation to recommend and return."
