Diner Reviews
  • "Was the most disappointed dinner I ever had. I never complain about food even when I have a proffesional of cook at home, but this time food was really bad. Starter of breaded calamari had a weird test like chemical or similar, (not all of them) and also all the companion salad, main course salon filet was overcooked quiet a lot. The waitress offered to change but we were too afraid to test other chemical or hard fillet so we asked to change for a bottle of wine which he agreed. The menu and one bottle of wine we ordered at first place increased the bill extremely like if were paying both bottles of wine and any other broken thing which we still do not know what was. Good place for drinks and jazz on live music."

  • "The doorman was the best one that night, he was kind and smily guy! To start they sat as down in a intimate corner but far from what was interesting, the band(even if table closer was requested) We couldnt see much. But after the band got a break we moved closer, asked for a bottle of wine and enjoyed the night listening to amazing music."

  • "If any jazz legends have played this venue it must have been very different. The alleged Tapas was no more than a plate of badly cooked brown food with what tasted like brown sauce over some of it. I did in fact send the food back and was asked if I fancied anything else from the menu, I couldn't see that anything else would be any better as they advertise the tapas as a signature dish. A cover charge of £5 per head was charged (Ronnie Scotts late night session only £10). The entertainment and pa system were poor. A thoroughly disappointing night as I had expected a better Soho Jazz Club vibe. "

  • "Please don't repeat my mistake and assume that since JAD is one of the first links on google that it must be a good restaurant. The good is cheap and greasy, not much more than you would expect for a school dinner, served on plastic plates, and ridiculously expensive for what it is. The atmosphere is not what you d expect from a jazz bar, the live music advertised on the website was nowhere to be seen and the speakers played jazz mixed with techno and dance music half the time, plus the toilets are like those in a nightclub, not a restaurant. On the other hand the staff are friendly and the cocktails good, but please, for a similar price go to the Jazz Pizza Express or somewhere else nearby..."

  • "First the waiters tried to get our creditcard so it would be easier to pay ?! After refusing to do so, they asked us what to drink every 10 minutes or trying empty the bottle of wine by pouring it in our glasses every 10 minutes. Then you need to pay 10 or 15 pound to enter the cafe for the live music which doesn't start at 21.00 but at 23.30. And the food was pretty bad, we would be better off if we went to one of the many fastfood restaurants in the neighbourhood. The music was nice but we could only enjoy it for 15 minutes because we needed to be on time for the underground."

  • "don't expect much from the food, but the cocktails were great measure and the jazz was superb. buzzing atmosphere, friendly staff, and small enough you won't miss a thing. definitely going back!"

  • "It is a very special place full of memories of Amy Winehouse. The selection of jazz musicians was perfect. The place is a small jewel in Soho area. Thanks for the service, was very welcoming and attentive."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "The restaurant charged £5.00 per head to listen to the music which was fine. The food was shocking, served on plastic plates and straight out of the freezer section and barely edible. I wouldn't serve this food at home let at home in a restaurant, overpriced and overated."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "I recently took my boyfriend to Jazz After Dark for his birthday. The staff were great and treated us like friends rather than just customers. The food was great value and really good. This venue has a cool atmosphere and ideal if you want a intimate musical experience. The music was fantastic and as I am a singer myself the band invited me to join them for a song which was a lot of fun! Over all it was brilliant! Highly recommend!"
    dined on 06/02/2014
  • "The food at Jazz After Dark isn't the best but do-able for the set menu cost. Tables are quite close together and it's generally more of a drinking den then a place to eat!"
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "I was extremely disappointed - the cocktails were very weak and watery - the food was below standard and having spend £120 for two people we were asked to pay additional £10.00 each to watch the jazz - i woudl not recommed this place!"
    dined on 31/01/2014
  • "We enjoyed a simple dinner among friends and enjoyed the music a great deal! Jazz after dark is a good address for those who wants to get off beaten tracks. Too bad however one of the waiter was rude to us (asked us to leave or pay an extra 5£ fee in order to stay when we just had ordered dessert and more drinks...)"
    dined on 30/01/2014
  • "We were there on a Thursday and the live music was really good - a great band and a funny, charismatic singer who could have been a stand-up! The food wasn't amazing but the cocktails made up for that.... Overall, a fun night was had and I would definitely go there again for the entertainment!"
    dined on 23/01/2014
  • "I would recommend this place for late night live music. It would be helpful if in the description it was made clear the music does not start until after 10."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "the music was good (with an american singer). But it's not a good idea to book there for eating: great for drinking while listening jazz."
    dined on 07/01/2014
  • "Straight away we were asked for money on the door by the manager. We weren't allowed inside the doorway to pay at the counter and were made to fumble in the rain outside for our cash despite asking if we could pay at the counter. though we'd ordered the same dish, we had different things on our plates. The waitress quickly went to sort it, but the managers both turned up to scold us for asking for them to correct our dishes. They did this by arguing in front of the performing band. great for the music, but the management was disgusting. Whilst our waitress was helpful, she seemed the only one on the staff that was. Music gets a 5/5, the establishment itself gets a 2/5. If I recommend it, it'll be for just drinks and the music."

  • "I didn't experience a goo d customer service and the price was high for that food and service."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "We attended the New Year's Eve celebrations at Jazz After Dark, Soho, London. I would not recommend the food as it was very under par. We were also charged for wine that never arrived. There was no festive atmosphere with midnight passing virtually unnoticed. The band was rather average and lacked enthusiasm and spirit for the occasion. Would not go there again."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "First ever visit. NYE evening. Just about as good as it could be - atmosphere, value, entertainment, ambience and enjoyment."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "could do better than squeeze six people on to a table that could bare fit 5. food flavours were not matching of the price. The band made up for the costs that were not reflective of the service Displayed cost on top table did not reflect the cost at the door. Was advertised as £25-£45 set NYE menu but no mention of £10 entry fee even if you having a meal and £25 for the band. To top it off the meal was set at £45. Had starters and gave up the rest of the meal. not impressed at all."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "Apart from the basic 'tapas' - frozen ready made food deep fried in bad oil, the service was poor. The waiter managed to explain that the fish was 'catch of the day' which varied from week to week. Upon enquiring what the catch was this particular week, he promptly replied he didn't know the names of the different fish. The band was good, but everything else was so shockingly poor that I couldn't recommend the experience to anybody. Very disappointing, Sam!"
    dined on 20/12/2013
  • "Great night here we ate first and then listened to the music. I was always looking for a place like this - that was not huge, with live blues/jazz, that was open late, where you could eat and hear music which was not deafening. Great atmosphere. Very cosy."
    dined on 04/12/2013
  • "Jazz after dark is a tiny sweet place in Soho! The singer that night had amazing voice, food was good. Could work on the service a bit and in utilising the space a bit more comfortably."
    dined on 03/12/2013
  • "We booked for 4 for dining as one of our friend had a birthday and he loves music. It turned out it was not an ideal choice. Foods were cheaply made and overcharged for the quality. Our waiter was cheerful and nice but food was not satisfactory at all. Better avoid for dining. At the end of the day, it is a jazz club so better listen to jazz and sip some drinks simply."
    dined on 15/11/2013
  • "What i didn't like was old cracked plates (you can find those in the charity shops) and cutlery, knives and forks were all from different sets. I had fried calamari as a starter, it was surved with the salad. This salad was old, it was obvious that it was cut in the morning to be served all day long, i was having dinner there in the evening. So i just cut salad edges off. I had chicken for a main. At first i thought that it was old as it was hard to cut, but then i realised that the knife was dull. I was going to ask for another knife but then i thought that probably all the knives there were dull. It would be a big shame to go there for a dinner date. However it can be fun to have a couple of drinks there or to come there already drunk."
    dined on 09/11/2013
  • "Poor food had to send it back for reheating. Great band playing though"
    dined on 08/11/2013
  • "We anticipated an evening with interesting food and good music. It's probably our own fault that we misunderstood the time for the music and came there all too early. Once there, we decided to still eat something. The meat was a total disaster; gray and tasteless. Accompanied by plain fries; boring. We should have left but was unfortunately too hungry once the food arrived to the table. Don't go there for the food. Cannot say anything about the music, we left!"
    dined on 26/10/2013
  • "The worst experience ever! Toilet is so small you can`t enter. Tables are small too. We reserved table online. While I was waiting for him I asked an orange juice, when they brought to me, they brought the bill as well, wanted me to pay and leave or what? My friend arrived later after lots of work, he was very tired and after a big dinner (lots of unhealthy, not very tasty processed meat and bones) and an orange vodka he fell asleep under the very light jazz music. I went to use the toilet while the staff member told my friend to pay and leave as they thought he is drunk. My friend unfortunately thought I left him there. (my 3rd date with him so far so he didn`t know I would never do that). Entrance fee too high for this service and music!"
    dined on 19/10/2013
  • "Friendly service, food not impressive, excellent music, but too much of Amy Winehouse music and display"
    dined on 19/10/2013
  • "Had a great evening at Jazz after dark. Called in to say we were running late and wasn't a problem. Place is what you expect from a Soho Jazz bar. Atmosphere is great, a little seedy typical Soho. Service was very attentive our waiter Val was excellent had far worse service in so called top establishments. Food, well its not about the food. The menu is OK food tastes a little microwaved, drinks very good and reasonable prices. We paid £10 a person entrance for the music. Band was Alice in Grooveland and played very good modern and standards. I asked for a table near the stage, if we were any nearer we would have been gigging with the band. On the down side the toilets were dirty hope the kitchen is better cared for"
    dined on 12/10/2013
  • "Food was very good value as was the wine - very acceptable house red. Jazz was great."
    dined on 20/09/2013
  • "This is the best Jazz restaurant I have ever gone. The quality of the music was outstanding. The night was truly amazing. I would like to thank you so much to all staff and the owner of the restaurant."
    dined on 12/09/2013
  • "Reminded me of one of those eclectic little music come restaurants around Bleeker Street in NY........and, like them most are a better bar and music venues than restaurant. Will go back to JAD but not to eat..... we had the tapas, a mistake....most items are deep fried....dripping in fat that appears to have passed its use by date!. However, the jazz funk band T-FACTA and Deleelah (singer) playing last Saturday night were great.....its so enjoyable to hear a band that are at one with their genre.....tight instrument playing yet so cool, laid back and easy with each other.........the singer's been around a while and certainly brings the listener into the band with her deft and subtle changes in pitch and expression. Many thanks T-FACTA!."

  • "I went on my Birthday & I was pleasantly surprised to see so many paintings of the late Amy Winehouse, but I guess it all made sense because this is where she used to work when she just started out. It was a chilled out vibe with a great singer & live band. It was a great night out & I will definitely go again!! Sam Shaker is also very hospitable."
    dined on 05/09/2013
  • "First time here and won't be the last! We had the Lamb and Entrecôte - both very good. The service was very good throughout. What really makes this place special is the ambiance: it is small and intimate and the clientele seem to be jazz enthusiasts. The music on the night we went was very good and much appreciated by the audience"
    dined on 31/08/2013
  • "Great band and lovely food - the sort of place I'd visit often if I lived in London. I don't so I drop in every time I visit."
    dined on 23/08/2013
  • "Staff couldn't have been more lovely, but go there for the jazz, NOT the food!"
    dined on 16/08/2013
  • "My friend & I took advantage of the platter & bottle of wine for £25. Whilst the food wasn't anything special or worth going out of your way for, it was inoffensive. We probably arrived a little early, but by 8pm the place had filled up and by the time the music kicked-off the atmosphere was great. The staff were very friendly, the cocktails strong and it very much had a family run feel. When the time came to leave for the last tube, we didn't want to go. I'd go back if I was in Soho and looking for some evening's entertainment."
    dined on 15/08/2013
  • "I loved this restaurant. It was cosy and personal and had a great ambience. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I thoroughly recommend the tapas selection (5 dishes for £20). It was a shame we coudln't stay for the jazz, but there seemed to be quite an interest in the entertainment and I am sure would create a great atmosphere."
    dined on 09/08/2013
  • "the staff and band was lovely, it was a very authentic and intimate atmosphere. The thing that I didnt like so much was the food, and the fact that it looked like an Amy Winehouse shrine, there were so many paintings of her. Nothing wrong with that of course, but it was almost uncomfortable with so many up close paintings of her - felt almost like an intruder."
